Hobbies:

Baseball - Jackson’s passion for baseball began pretty much the moment the sperm and egg united to create him, as his father played in the Major Leagues for fifteen years. Baseball is in his blood. He started with tee-ball as a young child, then moved up to coach pitch, then machine pitch, before playing for his middle school and high school teams. After high school, he went to college on a baseball scholarship. When he was younger, Jackson moved around the infield a lot; he spent a lot of time at first and third base before making the switch to catcher in middle school. It quickly became his favorite position. In 2014, Jackson was drafted by the Destiny City Comets and moved through their minor league system until he was brought up to the majors as one of the regular catchers during the 2016 season. Needless to say, baseball makes up a huge part of his life. He spends a lot of his time in or around the ballfield, and trains religiously during the off-season to keep himself in shape.

Nerd Stuff - While he’s never developed a deep enough interest in anything to feel as if he has any right to embrace the “nerd” label, Jackson definitely enjoys some nerdy things. He likes Star Trek and Star Wars, he has a thing for The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings (just the movies, though; he tried reading the books, but he got bored fast), and he will admit to being a bit of a Potterhead. He’s also unashamed by his love for Disney movies. He likes anything in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and he gives the DC movies a shot even if he doesn’t usually like them as much. He doesn’t watch a whole lot of anime, but he’s seen and heard enough to have a general idea about all the mainstream hits people talk about. The one “nerd” thing he never really got into was video games. He might play a fighting game or two, but otherwise there hasn’t been anything in particular that he’s dedicated his time to. Except Pokemon Go, but he’s not sure that counts.

Music - Jackson has a notable fondness for music. He learned to play the guitar when he was a teenager both because he thought it would make him look cool, and because he happens to enjoy strumming out a tune or two. When he’s working out or wandering around town, there’s a very good chance Jackson has his headphones in; when he’s cooped up at home, he usually has music playing in the background. He’s not particularly picky about what he plays or listens to. If he put his entire inventory of music on shuffle, it would switch from Michael Jackson to Marilyn Manson to Britney Spears to Queen to Garth Brooks to BTS to Jay Z to Adele to Backstreet Boys to Aerosmith to Billy Joel to Celine Dion and to many, many more. He’ll listen to anything and like it well enough. Or at least he can see the merit in it. Jackson has a particular fondness for really catchy, annoying pop songs, as indicated by the fact that MMMBop plays every time he comes up to the plate during ball games.

Weather - Scary as it was at the time, Jackson became interested in the weather when he was in the second grade and saw a tornado from a distance while heading to lunch at school. He enjoys a nice rainy day here and there, he absolutely loves watching a summer lightning storm, and flurries definitely amp up his excitement for winter, but he’s much more fascinated by the more dangerous weather phenomena — blizzards and hurricanes, and tornadoes most of all. The more severe the storm system, the more excitement and anticipation Jackson feels. He and some of his buddies back home used to go storm chasing during tornado season in high school, and even though Jackson acknowledges how absolutely stupid they were for doing it, he doesn’t regret a moment of it. In college, he studied Meteorology and Climatology instead of picking an easier, less involved major like a lot of athletes have a habit of doing. Sometimes he feels guilty for his passion, especially when people are hurt or killed during a weather event, but he consoles himself with the knowledge that even in the midst of his geeking out, he never downplays the severity of a storm, or the danger posed by them.

Virtues:

Jovial - Considering he was voted “Best Smile” in his high school yearbook, one of the first things people tend to notice about Jackson is his wide, infectious grin. He has a very positive outlook on life, and an easygoing nature that makes him a difficult person to put in a bad mood. Insults roll right off of him, and he can take criticism without batting an eye. He’s not usually the type to get angry; minor annoyances seem not to affect him at all, and he’s difficult to antagonize even on his bad days. He rarely lets himself get into heated arguments, unless he’s trying to break one up. Jackson is affable and lighthearted, with a cheery attitude and a good sense of humor. He greets people with enthusiasm and walks around town with a perpetual spring in his step.

Fearless - Jackson was also voted “most daring” by his high school class. He is unafraid to take risks. Some people have accused him of lacking the ability to feel fear at all, and while that certainly isn’t true, he’s even better at hiding it than he is at playing baseball, and he’s a pretty damn good baseball player. He will face a challenge head on, and tackle any problem presented to him with the same energy he puts into his career. He used to chase tornados as a teenager; he’s seen some crazy, scary s**t, and it never stopped him before. Very little actually fazes him, unless it has to do with the people he cares about. Even then, he’s more likely to stand up and do what needs to be done than he is to back down. He will put on a strong, confident face for as long as he has to.

Compassionate - Some people might not appreciate Jackson’s cheery nature. Others might even call him cocky instead of confident. But no one can say that he doesn’t care about other people. He has four siblings; he learned how to take care of other people at a young age, and he likes doing it. Jackson is an excellent shoulder to cry on (and not just because he has nice shoulders). He’s always ready with a kind word and a supportive hug when someone’s feeling down. He doesn’t like to see other people upset, and he will do whatever’s necessary to see them smiling and laughing again. He can’t claim to give the best advice (or if he does try to make that claim, it isn’t true), but he always makes sure to listen and offer what help he can to those in need.

Flaws:

Loudmouth - Jackson loves people. He also loves to talk. These two things go together pretty well most of the time, but there are also times when his penchant for running his mouth can get him into trouble. He can come off a little strong at times and has been known to grate on people’s nerves. Often, it’s an unintentional side effect of having a naturally loud and buoyant voice, but there have been occasions when he’s done it on purpose. He enjoys teasing people, especially people he’s attracted to. Unfortunately, not everyone appreciates it, and he doesn’t always realize when he’s taken it too far until someone’s shouting at him to knock it off. Jackson is sure to apologize when this happens, but it rarely stops him from doing it again.

Reckless - Fearlessness has a way of turning into recklessness when Jackson’s not careful. And he isn’t always careful. It’s one of the reasons he had to take a break from storm chasing, because he was an idiot and took far too many risks for his own good. He was lucky, somehow, but that doesn’t mean he was never in danger. He has a bad habit of dragging other people along with him. He enjoys the company; the reward for every risk is never as great as it is when he can share it with someone else. Few people appreciate the danger as much as he does, though, and he’d feel like the most awful person in the world if anyone got hurt because of him. Yet, even that isn’t enough to stop him.

Arrogant - Jackson’s talent and his years of success have resulted in an inflated ego. He knows he’s good at what he does, and he doesn’t have a problem letting other people know it, too. In fact, people should know. He’s worked hard his entire life. He made good grades in school. He dedicated himself to becoming a professional athlete. He always meant to follow in his dad’s footsteps, and now that he’s made it, he’s pretty sure he’s allowed to be a little smug about it. It’s something to be proud of, isn’t it? And the fact that he can admit to being a bit of an arrogant douchebag makes it okay, right? He’s self-aware enough to say it, at least. How many other people readily admit to their flaws?
