Race: Kaha'iko/Kawena
Gender: Androgynous
Pronouns: They/Them
Significant Other: N/A
Physical Description: They take after the Kaha'iko with a taller frame (7'0") and a fair bit of muscle
Personality: U'ilani is a fairly straight forward individual with little time for idle chatter and gossip. Even when conversing with others they're always on edge, as if awaiting the next phase in their day and itching for the next big thing.
As a big game hunter they've become something of a thrill seeker. Even outside of the hunt they have a competitive nature that often borderlines on recklessness, but it's so rarely backfired that they've developed an ego from it. What's the point in doing the same thing, day after day? Who cares if it's safe if you're bored? To that end they would rather fight the biggest monster in the land, die young and have lived a full life than be an old soul with nothing to their name.

History
U'ilani is the result of a union that by all rights never should have been. Their parents met when the hunter, Kakeo, came to the surface after battling years of suppressed curiosity. Kakeo claims it was because of the prey he'd been chasing that the innate distrust of his people was broken, but either way Kakeo found himself coming back to the surface more and more. It was there, where the river meets the sea, that he met Kusa.
Their romance was a whirlwind. Both were far too young to take it seriously and so wrapped up in the newness of it all that they didn't think any of their decisions through. In their eyes they were a pair of grown hunters and fully capable of making the harder decisions in life. So when Kusa mentioned having a clutch of their own Kakeo readily agreed. The implications of children mixed with Kawena and Kaha'iko blood didn't deter them; love kept them going no matter the cost.
So while it came as a blow that only one child survived the clutch, U'ilani was treasured. The pair did everything they could to make sure U'ilani had everything they could ever need or want, but eventually the reality of the situation became too much for their relationship. Neither was truly happy with their new lives; being far away from family, friends, their homes...and yet, what could they do? Kusa had no desire to go to the caves and Kakeo couldn't fathom a life that far inland. So, they made the hard call to break off the relationship and after much thought they decided that U'ilani would go with Kakeo back to his home.
Over the years Kakeo has made sure to stay in contact with Kusa however he could, giving U'ilani as many visits with their mother as possible. It's a bitter point for the young hybrid; while they wish their mother could be closer they're old enough now to understand the situation.

Growth Blurb: U'ilani is starting to have conversations with others and learn about cultures outside of those they've been exposed to. They've expressed a desire to travel to Tendaji and Belrea to learn from their hunters, as well as to fight the beasties that roam the lands.
Physical Description: Hair style ref 2, 3; feel free to make changes to fit around their horn. I'd like the braid to be thicker like the first ref regardless

Deciding on a path in life had never been a question for U’ilani. For as long as they could remember their parents took them out on hunts. Of course, in their earlier years it was just to watch from a safe distance, then under heavy guidance but now they stood on equal footing. Whether the hunts happened deep beneath the surface, at the bottom of crystal-clear lacks or on land the thrill of it was always the same. U’ilani thrived on chasing the biggest beasts the world had to offer and even once they were conquered they couldn’t help wanting more.
The thrill of new adventures drove U’ilani to bigger and better heights. It worried Kakeo from time to time, but Kusa saw it as an opportunity to grow. So, she bought U’ilani a solid spear to train with and encouraged them to hunt within reason. At times the training was difficult, but it was never something they dreaded. Life had already been so hard and fitting in with the general population was never an option, btu this…In this they could tune out the world and focus. One day they even hoped to bring their skills to Belrea and then Tendaji as a whole. Now that travelers had started coming to the Kahikina the stories from their world had U’ilani’s interest. What beasts lay beyond these waters, just waiting for a stronger predator to take them down?
It would be terrifying, to say the least. There wouldn’t be a group of other hunters around to guide them nor would there be anyone to have their back.
And yet, maybe they could learn from those in Tendaji? Surely they had a different way of hunting that U’ilani hadn’t yet heard of and that was promising. If they wanted to be the best they needed to learn from the best and that meant broadening their horizons.
