The Regional Contest Committee has been examining its system and for the first time in a long time, it wants it's competitors involved in making some changes! They're considering making a whole new implementation to the system, but they want to test it out, first, and for that, they need volunteers.
So if you're interested in contests, please, come join other coordinators to practice, compete, and possibly give feedback, all while earning a bit of experience along the way!
This event is hosted off, out of the way of all the other regions, on a man-made island called "Coordinator's Corp" (affectionately called 'Coco Island' by some Contest Leaders), and is accessible by any train or boat. The event will take place in this thread. If you are interested, you may post for any item that can be posted for where there is a contest hall, as your area specific item.
Participants have two options:
xxx You can compete with another player as you would in a Beginner's level competition. This will yield no ribbons, however, but it does allow you to work through the contest system together, as opposed to by yourself. The winner will still gain exp based on the base appeal their competitor had and whether they use combos, as according to the exp system below. Note, this only works for this event. Players will not be able to compete with each other for exp outside of contests beyond this event.
xxx If you would prefer a more independent, possibly fast paced method, you may instead test the NPC system. This will require mod approval, however, though that may consist of just a quick look over from one of us. You may spread the contest over a few posts, but please link to each post in the final conclusion, when you need approval to collect the exp, so that we don't have to run back and search for each part. If you have any questions, feel free to ask! And, though it's probably obvious, just to reiterate, this also yields exp according to the system below. Please also feel free to provide feedback on this system, as it may be implemented guild-wide!
NPC system
Contest NPCs exp yield is determined off their base appeal, and whether they can (or do) use combo moves. Unlike the battle exp system, they are not limited by the level of the wild pokemon in the area, however they will take 15 NPC encounter posts to compete against, just like battle NPCs. This will be waved for the duration of this event! This means that you can freely compete against NPC's without expending NPC posts you've saved up, but remember, you need to quote a mod. This system is extremely Beta, but because the primary source of appeal is a pokemon's Base Appeal, which is earned, and then kept for the most part, exp caps at fifty. This is also because a lot of similar strategies and performances could (and likely will, almost should) be used ( "practiced" ) multiple times. Should the contest become more strategy (which hopefully it will), and less application of items and berries earned in the past, the exp may be adjusted to reflect this.
Additionally, exp earned by contests is not effected by GS Balls, Lucky Eggs, or similar items. Contest-Specific versions of these items may be created in the future, or items may be changed to include Contest exp. For now, we appreciate your help in testing the system, and checking whether the exp yield seems adequate.
The Difficulty-Exp measurement
If an opponent has 0-5 base appeal and cannot, or does not, use a combo turn, it will yield 10 exp
If an opponent has 0-5 base appeal and does use a combo turn at 20% success, it will yield 13 exp
If an opponent has 0-5 base appeal and does use a combo turn at 30%-70% success, it will yield 17 exp
If an opponent has 0-5 base appeal and does use a combo turn at 100% success, it will yield 20 exp -------------=------------------------------------=-------------------------------

If an opponent has 6-10 base appeal and does use a combo turn at 30%-70% success, it will yield 20 exp
If an opponent has 6-10 base appeal and does use a combo turn at 100% success, it will yield 25 exp -------------=------------------------------------=-------------------------------

If an opponent has 51+ base appeal and does use a combo turn at 100% success, it will yield 50 exp
Finally, we also hope to test the Excitement System that we are considering implementing into the Contest System as a whole! This is technically what the "Committee" is testing as well, since NPC's will be treated as just regular, fellow coordinators. If you are interested in testing this system, please quote or PM Loonamist. This system is based on the games, but it's still very new, so it may take some tweaking and explaining. That being said, the layout of it is described below. We encourage people to please try it out, it will really help us get an idea of whether it can be used to give Contests a layer of more strategy!
Excitement System
The Excitement System will take the audience, as opposed to just the judges, into account. It will add an additional level of strategy to contests, which could lend to more facets to work with, and possible additional changes, features, and items. Consequently, some effects of moves will be changed, which is why we need to be sure on who's using the excitement system, and make sure the right effects are being used.
The way it works is this:
The audience will have an "excitement" meter, which can be influenced by the moves each pokemon uses. Moves of the same type as the contest (cute moves used in a cute contest, etc) can add to the excitement, while using moves of a different can either have no effect, or diminish the excitement. ( The current set up for how move categories can effect appeal in each contest type will be transferred into the excitement system as well )
Using a move that is in the same category to add to the excitement, will earn an additional +1 of appeal
Using a move that diminishes the excitement, as the system already has (as the categories will correspond), will result in -1. For instance, if you use a cute move in a tough contest, you will receive -1 Appeal, and the excitement will go down by 1.
Filling the meter to 5, it's max count, will result in a bonus +3 Appeal to your pokemon's score.
Using the same move in a row, even if it is supposed to raise excitement, will result in no effect-- however, it can still lower the crowd's excitement.
Excitement would not apply to the battle round.
This is all taken almost exactly from the games themselves, so if you want another style of of explaining it, feel free to check Bulbapedia's Contest Audience aspect. Some of the details have been tweaked, but much of the point-by-point explanation is the same.
As was mentioned, the excitement system would result in some moves being changed, so we've listed the changes/additions below:
Move description changes Quite the appealing move - +2 Excitement
An Appealing Move That can be Used Repeatedly Without Boring the Audience - No deduction to excitement, but no addition to excitement after the first use, either
Excites the Audience a Lot if Used Last - +2 excitement if used last in a round, +3 if used last in the very last round Notes: This would replace the current effect
Excites the Audience a Lot if Used First - +2 excitement if used first in a round, +3 if used first in the very first round Notes: This would replace the current effect
Works Better the More The Crowd is Excited - +the excitement meter. If the excitement meter is 4 and the move is of the same category and maxes out the meter, the pokemon will gain +7 Appeal (+4 from the meter, +3 from the bonus) Notes: This would replace the current effect
Excites the Audience in Any Kind of Contest - +1 to the Excitement meter regardless of the type of contest
Temporarily Stops the Crowd from Growing Excited - Stops the crowd from gaining any excitement for the remainder of the round Notes: This would replace the current effect
Makes the Audience Expect Little of Other Contestants - Stops the crowd from gaining any excitement for the remainder of the round
Makes the Audience Quickly Grow Bored When an Appeal Move Has Little Effect - Moves that do +2 appeal or less fail to excite the audience Notes: This would replace the current effect

Trey was finally up from all his reading, but of course, now he was just sort of staring off, apparently in thought. JR looked through the opposite window, past the passengers on the other side. "... You know you're going to need to actually train, right?" he remarked, narrowing his eyes as he tried to make out a sign of whether they were getting close. This was an island, right? So what.... were they taking train tracks over water...? He looked back at Trevor when all he received was, unsurprisingly, silence. He frowned when he noticed the teen was still just staring out his window, unable to tell whether he'd even heard him. "Did--""I heard yeh," he cut off, but still didn't change his gaze.
JR sighed and rolled his eyes, but decided to check his messages. He straightened up as he did. He'd been contacted by the Day Care... finally, but it wasn't exactly in response to his inquiries on Wesley. It was more due to the fact that he had apparently escaped (predictable), been found, and, surprisingly, caught by another trainer. He was given the girl's contact information, an embarrassed, rushed apology, and sent her a message. She was apparently understandably ready to be done with him, and with a few more quick exchanges, he had set up for the little wigglytuff tyrant to be sent to their destination.
Which was why the moment the train pulled in, JR slid to the edge of the seat, placed a hand on the back, and looked towards the exit, ready to slip out the moment it stopped. "I've a few things to take care of," was all he said, before immediately getting to his feet, and striding down, ducking and moving around people before disappearing from view. Trevor frowned, staring after him, Shade and Cherish both on his lap. What was that about....

Trey eventually grimaced, before moving over, picking up Shade and letting Cherish jump down onto the ground. He waited until the crowd thinned some, before standing, grabbing his things, and moving to walk amongst the crowd and leave the train. Cherish bounded around feet and under seats to follow along, chirping and gekkering intermittently with Shade responding with small yips of its own. Trevor glanced down, absently wondering what they were talking about, if anything, but looked up as he exited, his eyes going wide as he took in the sights. It was wide, open, with a tall building towards the far back of its circular space, courtyards and stages, stands and dining areas scattered through out. There was an oval, curved space with the building in the center where contests seemed to be centered, with stages and just areas for people to officially compete, or casually train and practice together. The building was composed of a center, towering structure, with shorter rectangular sections to either side, and more shallow ones in the center, giving it the vague shape of a more choppy, uneven pyramid. He noticed some healing centers -- though, he imagined, less than there would be at a battling event -- and PCs for trainer's convenience, and absently made his way over to one. He wanted to get his pokemon healed up-- and meanwhile, JR was receiving Wesley at a different PC.

Trey caught a glimpse of JR approaching in his peripheral while he waited for his pokemon to be healed up, Cherish and Shade both staying out of their pokeballs while Nurse Joy looked them over, and spritzed them to full health. Cherish didn't seem to mind the attention, though he was clearly more interested in looking around, his ears twitching and turning to various sounds. Shade, on the other hand, kept sort of trying to duck away from her hand, eying her with wide-eyed, interested curiosity, despite his clear wariness to let her touch him.
The teen decided not to turn to look at JR, but instead side stepped away from his hand when he saw him reach out. The older man pressed his lips together in an annoyed expression, before he finally managed to lock onto that crimson gaze, and silently convey his irritation at the move. "I got Wesley," he informed him, dropping his hand down with an expression as blunt as his tone. "Y'mean yer yoke?" Trey drawled back, turning as Nurse Joy placed his pokemon back on the counter with a kind smile, and her usual phrase.
Which let him miss the narrow-eyed, dumbfounded look Jer was giving him. "My..." He paused, then shook his head, deciding not to ask, "wigglytuff, yeah.""Meant yar partner. He's sorta in charge, isn' he?" JR frowned at the smart tone the teen so casually threw out there, and slowly curled his hand into a fist, before turning to look around. "Come on. You need to get competing, don't you?" And with that, he set off at a commanding pace.

Trey had been looking over Cherish on his own, frowning when he noticed the gekkit had managed to get dirty again, but looked up in surprise when JR just started off. He blinked, but gathered his pokemon up, scooping one arm under Cherish, and gathering Shade in the other, moving to follow the older man reflexively. He frowned when he suddenly realized, he wasn't sure why. This was his thing, after all. He slowed his pace, then grimaced. JR seemed to sense this and glanced back, slowing, then stopping as well. There was some sort of silent communication going on as they stared at each other, as Trey processed that his heart was racing, that his stomach was starting to knot, and Jer seemed to wait for him to catch on. Somehow, someway, he'd snapped Trey into the reality of the situation. That he was on contest HQ, and he was here to compete. And he hadn't trained a bit. He... probably ought to start practicing....

✪Walking Pokemon ⇨ The boat ride to Coordinator's Corp was a long one, especially with all of Naomi's questions. Dallas answered every single one with extra vinegar and rudeness, but behind all of it was actual, factual knowledge about contests. Over the two hour trip, Dallas covered all sorts of topics: from how moves work differently, to the way a contestant should present himself and his Poke'mon, and especially on proper grooming. "...so yeah, like I was saying," Dallas continued on, leaning on the rail of the ferry boat's deck, "Before the Performance Round starts, you have prep time to make sure your talent looks tip-top. You can use accessories as well, though make sure not to overdo it. It might get you points with the judges, but it can be downright garish if you ask me." As much as he'd hide the fact, Dallas was enjoying teaching his philosophy on Coordinating. He'd have to have Austin thank Naomi some time.
Soon enough, the boat was pulling into the harbor of Coordinator's Corp (which was also known as Coco Island by some of the other coordinators heading that way). "Here we are. Get our crap and get movin'!" Dallas gave the order and headed for the pier. As he did, he noticed that there were other boats arriving, and many coordinators seemed to be showing up, too. Whoa. I knew there'd be competition, but I didn't expect there to be so much! Dallas kept a strong, angry face, however, at the very least to keep Naomi's confidence in his teacher from faltering. "Well, this is it, Lame-omi," he said finally. "I think we need to sign in up at the HQ, and there's a hotel around here somewhere as well."
It seemed that harbors and piers were wrought with odd noises and upcoming danger, because the sounds of what could only be an angry, rabid Poke'mon caught Dallas' attention. "Huh?" He looked down the pier towards another boat, and watched as a couple of tough-looking guys unloaded a large cage that held an oddly-colored Gardevoir. More importantly, it looked like the Gardevoir was feral! It was screaming loudly, and emitting even angrier shouts with its telepathy for anyone close enough. Looks like the only emotion this Gardevoir knows is pissed. His curiosity not quite sated, Dallas made a b-line for the group and the Gardevoir.
"Oy, oy! What's with the cage?" The leader of the other thugs, a bald-headed man with a leather biker jacket, shot a look at the upcoming Dallas. "This? She's a special Gardevoir we 'found.' She's crazy as hell, too, but we figured she could win any sort of Tough contest. We call her Dracovoir: Half Dragon, half Psychic. pretty sweet, huh?" Dallas glanced over at Dracovoir, and as soon as they made eye contact, she started to send him messages of pain and anger and a need to get out. It made Dallas frown even more than usual. "Look, I'm gonna go ahead and make this quick," Dallas said."Let her go before I kick your a**."
Baldy was confused, but quickly recovered. "Oh yeah? Do you think y-" Before he knew it, Dallas was already decking him right in the mouth, and sent the man to the ground. "Whoa hey whoa! We ain't throwing down like this!" He struggled to his feet, and produced a Poke'ball. "Instead, we're gonna have ourselves a little Tough Contest!" As if they were waiting behind the boats, people started to gather around, having heard the challenge of a contest. "Naomi! Gimme my bag! I'm about to give you an example on a 1 on 1 Contest!'

While Trey slinked off to try and explain the basics of contests to his pokemon and work on what he could do with a kit and a ball of fluff, JR kept his distance. He would stay close, in case of... whatever, but he had some things of his own to address. Pulling out Wesley's specially made pokeball -- that the Wigglytuff demanded to have and had a whole other story of its own -- he clicked it open, and released the furious pokemon. Unsurprisingly, he was met with a raging glare and an expression that suggested steam out to be pouring out of his long, rabbit-like ears. "TOUGH!!" he shouted, earning only a resigned sigh from Jer as the man closed his eyes and ran a hand back through his hair. "Good to see you too, Wesley," he drawled back. This earned a twitchy glare from the pokemon before it took a deep breath, looked away, held it, and then snorted.
The pokemon looked back, and then pulled something out, tossing it at JR, and giving him the sort of look that suggested he'd stolen it, and expected Jer had been slacking off in doing similar activities while he was away. The trainer caught it, without breaking eye contact with his pokemon, before looking down to examine it. It was a pokeball... the same kind he'd seen Trey use on that small.... chittery thing. "For your information, Wes, I've finished two jobs since I dropped you off, and have a few more planned," he replied to the non-verbal accusation, still casually rolling the pokeball around. He tucked it away and raised his gaze to look back at him. "And we're here because that twerp we're currently locked into contract with, wanted to be," he added, noticing the wigglytuff was skeptically looking around. He was shot a glare at this, but gave a shrug in response. "You know I don't kill without contract," was his simple, undertone response.
He sighed and looked over, reaching back for the pokeball. "C'mon, we need to go find him. And no fighting.""Tough...."

JR quirked an eyebrow as he found Trey with another trainer. The teen turned, giving him a wary, unamused look, and, after a brief pause, the older of the two went through with his idea of tossing the ball Wesley had given him, to him. Trey frowned, looking confused, but caught it, before his eyebrows raised. "Wesley found it--""Wig!!" the pokemon gave an outraged cry, looking between the two, aghast. "Figured you could use it--""WIGGLY!!?!""What're you two up to?""WIGGLY WIGGLY WIGGLYTUFF WIGDAJGIDSJ--" If he'd bothered to look down at his pokemon, he probably would have expected to see Wesley foaming at the mouth, but instead he casually kept his attention on Trey, and the unknown trainer, both of which were staring with mildly concerned and unnerved expressions as they stared at the large fairy pokemon. The unknown boy stepped away slightly, while Trevor raised his gaze, eventually, back to JR.
"'Bout to do a bit o' trainin'," he explained warily, as if he expected JR to comment. And he did. The man smiled lightly. "I see you're talking," he remarked. Trevor's eye twitched, and he glared at him. ".... Gobshite," the teen muttered, before looking at the pokeball. "'Nyway, yeh can jus' wait o'er there or somet'in. Don'. Bother us," he replied back, moving to bring his bag around, and grab a heartscale. After having just given the kid a pretty nice item, JR was more than a little irked at the attitude, but he turned and walked away. Wesley stood there fuming a moment, before turning, and furiously following, while the two boys worked to prepare their pokemon for their little contest... and Trey switched Shade's pokeball.

The boat ride was… long. As was any form of long distance travel, but they arrived on the island (which Sebastian had found was named ‘Coco Island apparently) in no short time. Which was good because the man had completely forgotten that Rummy didn’t exactly do well on boats and upon unloading, had to tend to the needs of his pokemon’s sudden bout of illness. His bad; it’d been so long since he’d had the Leafeon out that it’d just slipped his mind.
Luckily, illness didn’t dissuade Rummy (much like everything else in the world) and the color was returning to his cheeks in a rush as he took in the sights of all the coordinators gathered for the event, eyes dish plate wide in awe and excitement. In fact, he looked ready to bolt in any direction which promptly led Sebastian to keeping him cradled under his arm. The last thing he wanted (or needed) was to lose a team mate in a crowd of people. Again. He was done with that. While there probably wouldn’t be random attacks and danger, it was still something to avoid. For his heath and sanity.
Instead, to help sate the pokemon’s curiosity and his own, Sebastian proceeded to stroll around the area and examine what was available. There seemed to be numerous stages littered around the place, a court yard, a dining area, and concession stands with a mix of purchases available. There also seemed to be a central building where the main event was being hosted and so, after an extra moment of thought, Sebastian decided to head inside and look around there as well.

Naomi was forced to return a portion of his team while on the boat ride, Sousa and Tomoe because of their size. He was quick to make himself comfortable, as was Ieyasu who took up a spot in his lap, and when he was comfortable he got to talking. Quite a bit. The subjects, of course, revolved around contests and every little detail or information he was not yet knowledgeable of, and that was... well, everything. To Dallas' credit, he answered every question hurtled his way, though how he went about it could've qualified as 'unnecessary'. Naomi didn't mind, and he happily jotted down each and every tip that was passed on to him. By the time they arrived to the island, he'd gotten down at least two pages full.
Closing his book softly, Naomi returned it to his bag and stood to his feet, in that order, before collecting his pokemon, his bag, and Dallas'. "Didn't realize being his student meant you were also the resident pack-mudbray," Rotom commented, popping out of Naomi's own bag as they started moving. He hadn't wanted to risk getting the pokedex wet, so he'd opted to stay tucked away until they'd docked. "It is fine, I am capable of carrying it all," was all the response he gave before he hurried after Dallas.
Knowing that the event had been well advertised--there were fliers for it, after all-- still didn't prepare Naomi for the sheer amount of people, all coordinators, milling about. He did his best to keep up with his teacher, not wanting to become separated from him, and went between nodding along to looking around, creating for an odd sight of head movement. With all the commotion, the sound of screaming was... misplaced, perhaps that was what made it so noticeable. Perhaps it was because of how loud it actually was. Whatever the reason, Naomi found himself unable to concentrate on anything else, as was the case with Dallas, and he cautiously followed after to get a closer look at the caged Gardevoir.
The conversation was simple enough, and though confused, Naomi was still able to follow along and understand. What he didn't understand was Dallas' insistence that she be freed. Or, rather, why Dallas cared so much. He didn't appear the type to-- he flinched when, after delivering an ultimatum, Dallas went on to punch one of the two individual. Now that, that seemed to be his character. "Ah?" He was still reeling by the impromptu show of violence, it took Naomi a moment to realize that he was being addressed. "Go on, pack-mudbray," Rotom urged 'helpfully'. "Give him his bag." Stifling a rather breathy exhale, Naomi excused himself as he stepped away from the crowd and handed Dallas his bag, as requested. "Best of luck," he offered, uncertainly. He hadn't expected to see his first contest, or the events surrounding it, so soon.

Trevor straightened up, and the two moved to a small clearing area, for practicing, where people were mulling about, watching performances, some settled in to eat and observe. Trey... totally wasn't nervous. If he was, he almost couldn't tell. He was too focused on trying to figure out what to do. He'd barely done much with his pokemon.... he didn't want to be too repetitive. But, it was practice, right? So, he oughtn't worry too much.... even if he still really wanted to win. They both recalled their pokemon, before Gary went first, sending his Starly out, the pokemon bursting free-- and appearing asleep, curled up, snoozing and chittering and chatting with each exhale. It... was admittedly pretty cute. Trey flushed a bit, before looking away, and relaxing. This was his element. This was supposed to be fun. It was time to appreciate that and relax.
He felt himself actually smile, and follow his own advice, tossing Cherish's pokeball up, catching it, before flinging it in the air with an elegant toss of his arm and flick of his wrist, the ball spinning up, out towards the "audience", before snapping open and releasing the gekkit. "Withdraw, Cher," he instructed, as the pokemon fell the short distance, landing cutely on his feet, before promptly withdrawing into his cone, curling up.... and rolling around. It... was adorable. Trevor's smile grew.

✪Walking Pokemon ⇨ Buns, the Lopunny Before Dallas and Baldy (who's name was actually Reggie could get started, a few officials in the same uniform arrived, forcing their way through the crowd. "Hold on, you two! Before you begin, myself and my colleagues need to explain the ground rules." The head official explained that the contest would be filmed to review the moves used and to check legality. On top of that, there would be three judges and three rounds: Appeal, Performance, and Battle. While the judges went on and on, Dallas was rummaging through his stuff. Listen up, Naomi," Dallas ordered his pupil, "Because I don't have a lot of time to explain what I'm doing while I do it."
He released his Lopunny from her ball, and she looked around, timid and confused. "Seriously? A Lopunny is gonna beat me at a Tough Contest?" Reggie and his crew jeered Dallas as they worked on prepping a Krokorok across the way. However, the even thuggier thug didn't pay them any heed, and started combing Buns' fur. "Cocky idiots. See, they think that just because Buns here is considered a Cute Poke'mon means she can't pull off any other kind of contest. Well, we'll show them!" Dallas pulled out the cape he had won from his previous contest. It was a pretty simple thing, black on one side, red on the other. "Rule Number 13 of Coordinating, Naomi: Learn to work with what you got." After a few more minutes of hair styling and dressup, Buns was ready, but incredibly nervous. "You'll be fine, Buns," Dallas whispered. "Just do what I do, okay?" She nodded reluctantly, and let herself be returned, just in time for the contest to begin.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, let's get this contest started!"
The crowd hollered and cheered, ready to see what the two trainers would bring to the table. "Go, Shades!" Reggie tossed his Poke'ball high, and out came Shades, a tough-looking Krokorok wearing a desperado's cowboy hat. He crossed his arms and shot a nasty look at Dallas. The crowd ate it up, mostly because of the help of Reggie's crew. "Well, if that's all you can do, Baldy, looks like me and Buns got this one clinched!" Dallas rolled Buns' ball across the pier, and she popped out with as tough a growl as she could manage. Dallas had been able to make a small pompadour with some of her excess fur, and the cape was worn in just the right fashion to make her look like a delinquent, much like her trainer. She quickly glanced at Dallas before copying his pose: arms crossed, slight lean, and a mean ol' mug on her face. The crowd was surprised, and gave out a resounding amount of applause.
And then, the contest really got going. Shades and Reggie mostly tried their best to look as scary as possible, which they did rather well. As the rounds went on, Buns had to do her best to keep her composure as the larger Poke'mon gnashed its large mouth of teeth at her. But, the little delinquent held her own, using her strong ears to smash a crate Dallas had sent her way, and even throwing a big, fiery punch, much to the crowd's enjoyment. Twice, they had got the crowd whipped up into a frenzy. "Rule Number 38 and 39, Naomi!" Dallas had shouted. "Read your audience and figure out when they're on the edge of their seat. And when they get there, knock 'em all on their asses with something really impressive!" Dallas shot a cocky look to Reggie, who was beside himself with anger.
"We will now commence the Battle Round! Contestants, start!"
Dallas had explained that the Battle Round was more of a mock battle, a way to show that the interesting moves were not just entertaining, but practical as well. However, you could barely tell that from the way Reggie coordinated Shades. It was almost as if the Krokorok was actually attacking Buns, who was barely able to get out of harm's way. "That's right, Shades! Kill 'em!" Shades launched himself into a rage, and thrashed wildly at Buns and everything around. That included the cage that Dracovoir was residing in, and it started to tip over the edge of the pier. "s**t...Buns, Low Kick on the cage, quick!" Buns grunted as she hopped closer to the toppling cage, and delivered a well-placed kick to keep the cage upright. Dracovoir looked at Buns and Dallas with confusion; why were they helping her?
Unfortunately, this set up Shades perfectly for a nasty bite. He had actually grabbed Buns by the cape, and violently threw her into the water. It was a heavy loss, point-wise. "Aw, looks like your furball's all washed up!" Dallas grit his teeth and mumbled some curses under his breath. s**t! C'mon, there's still a way to win this one. Gotta show this a*****e up, and I sure as hell can't let him keep that Poke'mon like that! While Shades and Reggie showboated, Buns was resurfacing, spitting hair and water from her mouth. "Buns! Get up here and use Pound on me!" She was reluctant, but Dallas had never done her wrong before. She got back onto dry land quickly, and launched herself at her trainer with her powerful ears.
Dallas put out both of his hands as she threw down her recoiled ears, and with the momentum, flung her skywards. His hands hurt like hell, but it looked like it was going to be worth it. Reggie looked up, dumbfounded as the tough little rabbit came barreling towards him. "Sh-sh-shades! Do something!" The Krokorok roared, and ran to intercept Buns. "Now, Buns! Turn and throw it!" On his order, Buns landed on the balls of her feet, spun around, and threw a fiery punch at Shades. And the Krokorok did the worse thing you can do in a Tough Contest: He flinched. Buns smirked as the crowd went berserk. She playfully bopped Shades twice for flinching, then hopped over to Dallas. Reggie just looked on, embarrassed. "Heh, you really think a Krokorok wouldn't freeze up like that," Dallas taunted.
"Grrrr shut up! Don't act like you already won-"
"Myself and my fellow judges have decided Buns and Dallas as the winners of this contest!" Reggie's jaw dropped, and Dallas and Buns engaged in triumphant taunting laughter. "You lose, loser! I bet your number of wins are the same as the number of hairs on your head! Boosh!" Forgetting himself, he even hi-fived a few random folks that congratulated him. But, he didn't waste too much time on that; he wanted to see what Naomi thought. "Well, what'd ya think of ya teach, nerd? I bet I blew your little mind wide open!"

Trey smiled, kneeling down as Cherish popped back out of his collar, shook his head, and turned, bounding back to him. He picked him up and petted the dusty little fox, who yipped in appreciation for the praise. The two had no real judge here, given it was just practice, but luckily he and Gary were both versed enough to know he got to go first in the next turn, the beginning of the Performance Round. He took a moment, thinking, before lifting his head, setting Cherish down, ad straightening. "Le's put on a show, Cher-- use disarmin' voice!" he instructed. The pokemon looked at him curiously, as if expecting more instruction, but turned, bounded out, and stopped. He leaned back, then pounced forward with a chorused, sharp trilling, almost song-like call that caught the attention of a few of the nearby pedestrians. Trey observed curiously, folding his arms over his chest, but smiled as the pokemon looked back for his approval, and returned. He leaned down to pick him up again, examining his paws some, before looking over to his opponent. Gary had an odd, contemplative expression on his face, but then grinned, his Starly taking off from his shoulder as he stepped out and swung his arm forward in a gesture. "Use Growl, Starly!" he instructed, the pokemon fluttering down to try an intimidating attempt at a growl, only to earn a few awws from the onlookers. Well, dang.

As thrown off as he'd been by Dallas' impromptu show of violence, Naomi still found himself invested in the contest like the rest of the crowd. Swept up by the excitement, he cheered and applauded with the rest of them, and became breathless just from spectating. He was careful not to become too caught up, however, and paid special attention to both contestants and the way they commanded their pokemon. Though he couldn't force his pokemon to note every detail, at the very least he could be content with knowing that they were just as enthralled by the contest as he was. He even caught Sousa watching intently, though that was in between his periodic survey of the area around them. His work was never done.
Naomi applauded along with the rest of the crowd, and enthusiastically at that, once the battle round was concluded and the judges announced Dallas and Buns as the winner. He clapped for both participants and their pokemon, but the teen found the majority of his attention remained on Dallas. His excitement was certainly contagious, but it was the way that he held himself happily that truly made him worth watching. It was different from how he'd been before, and because it was different it was memorable.
Upon being approached, Naomi greeted Dallas with a bow and a smile to match his interior feelings. "It was incredible, yours and Bun's performance was truly awe-in-spiring." From down below Jingū hopped from one spot to the other, with a few excited chirps to punctuate each step. She had enjoyed herself as well, and wanted both Buns and Dallas to be aware. Naomi watched her, briefly distracted, but then turned back to his teacher. His gentle smile had turned to a wry one, and he looked as if he'd stumbled upon the most amusing joke. "You are not entirely what you seem," he commented, confident in his observation. Rather than elucidate, however, Naomi turned his head in the direction of the pokemon still in the cage--he believe they called it 'Dracovoir'--and gestured out to it. "You should free the pokemon."

✪Walking Pokemon ⇨ Buns, the Lopunny , Dracovoir the Gardevoir
Dallas puffed out his chest at Naomi's compliment, basking in the glory of another sweet victory. 2 for 2, baby! Yes! He tussled Buns' pompadour, much to her chagrin. "Yeah, well it's mostly this little gal that did the hard work," he replied. "See, you gotta remember that all you're really doing is just giving direction; it's all up to your actors to get the job done. You dig?" Buns nodded, even though she didn't really understand. However, when she saw Jingū's reaction, she was sure it was a good thing that happened. She ventured closer to the sweet little fruit ball and attempted to give it a hug. Dallas couldn't believe how well Buns did, especially with her timidness. But she really pulled it off in the end. With a little more training, they'd make a formidable team.
He glanced back up to Naomi, who was looking at him with a know-it-all grin. "What?" And then his student spoke his peace, and Dallas scoffed and crossed his arms. "Oh wow," he sighed. "Who woulda thought the guy you just met today has more to 'em than face value. You're a real genius, you sure you need a teacher? Moron." Nevertheless, Dallas turned his head in disgust only to blush ever so slightly. I-idiot... Luckily for the teacher, his pupil reminded him about Dracovoir. "Oh yeah! HEY BALDY! You better cough up that key before I do more than hurt your pride!"
Reggie handed over the key, and he and his crew inched away, as did a lot of the crowd as it started to dissipate. "Hey there lil lady," Dallas said calmly as he approached the cage. "I'm gonna let you out now, okay? Don't worry about those assholes, I'll take good care of ya, promise." Dracovoir watched Dallas with her black and yellow eyes, her fanged mouth slightly open. However, she was still, for now. Dallas unlocked the heavy lock, and Reggie and his guys backed farther away. "Don't say I didn't warn you, Dallas!" The younger thug rolled his eyes as he opened the cage. "Why don't you guys grow a pair-"
"WHRAOOOOOR!"
Dallas was tackled by the mutated Gardevoir, and soon had the feral Poke'mon biting down on his arm multiple times. "Whoa-hey! Ow! C'mon, I'm the good guy, dammit!" Dracovoir didn't let up, and continued her onslaught of attacks. However, they weren't near as painful as one would thought; Gardevoirs weren't much for phsyical attacks, after all. After awhile, Dallas stopped flailing; Buns had been worried, but after awhile, it was clear that Dracovoir wasn't doing any substantial damage. "..Rrrrorororawoar....." Dracovoir was getting tired, and was gnawing on Dallas halfheartedly. "Hey Baldy, I thought you said she was like, a killing machine or something," Dallas complained. "Well, we thought she would be," Reggie replied. "I mean, we kept her locked up and agitated her a bunch to force her to evolve, and I figured she'd be, you know...scary." Dallas gave his fellow thug a dim glare, not amused whatsoever. "Whatever. I got this."
Dallas looked at Dracovoir, still attached to his arm, and bonked her on the head with his free one. She let go, and held her head, looking up at Dallas submissively. "I'm the Alpha around here, got it?" Dracovoir nodded, and sidled up close to her new Alpha. "Good. Sorry I hit you." He gave the Dracovoir a pet, and she let out a rumbling roar, or a content purr, one of the two. "Rule Number 44, Naomi: Some Poke'mon only react to dominance. But don't be too on them like some assholes that poach Poke'mon! He glared right at Reggie and his crew as they silently slunk away. "Anyway, let's head to the HQ. I wanna get this Gardevoir checked out."
