Gymnastics - She doesn't plan to compete at any point, and that fact alone has gotten her several questioning looks over the years, but Zinnia has been a gymnast since she was ten - she didn't get into it early enough to be a serious competitor by most standards, and that's the reason she always gives. Personally, Zee's very fond of the balance beam and the uneven bars, but she's no slouch at tumbling as well - people always appreciate a well-placed cartwheel or handspring.
Astronomy - Zee likes space. Do you like space? If you don't, that's okay, she likes space enough for both of you. Constellation patterns litter all her stuff, and she avidly keeps up with news of the cosmos, as well as spending plenty of time at the planetarium.
Virtues:
Genuine Sweetheart - Every stereotype about Good People holds true in Zinnia. Often enough people will suspect that she's faking how kind she is, that she's gossiping behind their backs, but no -- she's actually just like that for real. She's affectionate, gentle, thoughtful, and has a good word for almost everyone.
Forgiving - There is nothing bad enough anyone could do for Zee to hate them forever. As far as she's concerned, getting along is more important than holding grudges. She's always trying to mend bridges with friends who have fallen out of favor to the best of her ability, and she hates to think poorly of people.
Respectful - Zee is demure to authority, but she never thinks of anyone as anything less than equal. She's a good kid who tries her best not to be overbearing, and she easily accepts that someone who knows better than her should probably be respected -- at least in that field.
Flaws:
Forgiving - There is nothing bad enough anyone could do for Zee to hate them forever. She finds grudges to be less important than getting along, regardless of how valid that grudge is - even when it comes down to things like attempted murder or historical enmity. This is, understandably, not a view other people share, and she has no idea why. Forgive and forget, right? So who cares if they tried to frame you for a murder or something??? It's important to forgive people!!
Must Be Liked - There is nothing more important than you liking Zee if you're 'friends' of any vague rapport - she'll kind of let you steamroll all over her with only the slightest of protests, because the concept of making you leave because she was mean or stood up for herself is inherently abhorrent. She doesn't want to make you mad. She doesn't want to make anyone mad, ever. If you leave, then it's her fault, so she has to be nice.
Forgetful - Even with her occasional attempts at keeping notes, Zinnia has the memory of a goldfish - she'll remember assignments the day they're due after having two weeks to work on them, she'll forget she was going to hang out with you until she's called to be reminded, and she forgot how old her sister was for three months after her sister's birthday (although that last one's a little more usual). It's not that she necessarily has any actual issues, it's just that moving things from her working to long-term memory... gets a little complicated, sometimes.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Eyes: Pale cinnamon-orange, round, open - very traditionally 'innocent' eyes
Hair: Down to her shoulderblades, heavily curly, and lavender. She puts orange and white barrettes in it sometimes. Her bangs should be clipped out of her face. (Intended to be Jewish curls.)
Face: Freckly, a little bucktoothed and slowly growing out of it with braces, kind of in that gawky teenage puberty stage where nobody looks good. Dimples. Zee's the little sister of Amaris Mallette, so should have a similar skintone although quite a few shades darker!
Clothes: Extremely casual; tends towards 'sunset' colors - orange, cream, gold, pink, red. Sort of based on this OC, so that style of things. Skorts, simple sneakers, t-shirts. If it has a constellation design she'd like to own it.
