The lounge wasn't exactly the loudest of places depending on the time of day, which sometimes made it a great place for a nap. Instead of a nap, though, Mel had started to entertain herself by building a cushion-y fortress.
What? She was by herself and with nothing to do. Not that she wouldn't welcome company if someone came walking through that door, though she might consider asking for a password.

Naturally, Durza's raccoon was the first on the scene, someone's cocktail umbrella clenched in its jaws. The human chased after it, it may not be his umbrella, but it belonged to someone certainly! He was rather determined to see it returned.

Normally, Juliette wouldn't have considered taking any of her cats out of her room. Before it was a fear of their escape - actually, the same could be said about now too, but Duchess Dirtypaws seemed very well taken with the old woman - or that the cats simply didn't want to. But her new addition seemed very keen on exploring it seemed and had followed her out. "Well, I guess we'll go find you a bowl then." Cups did not work well with cats sometimes, and they needed to drink.
The kitchen was probably a better spot to look, but Juliette and company detoured briefly towards the lounge. To her, nothing seemed out of the ordinary as she hummed softly to herself. Not that pillow fort - she had seen a few now - or the raccoon being chased. Duchess Dirtypaws was not too keen about seeing the other small creature and immediately arched her back and hissed.
Juliette on the ther hand realized she had left a few scraps of fabric near the hammock. Oh, it was a good thing they stopped by.

"Halt, intruder!" she cried, pointing a finger at the raccoon that dashed past her defenses--a stack of body pillows. It toppled gloriously and, with her sudden movement, she knocked the roof right off the fort as well. The rest of it toppled shortly after. "Man..."
A glance up notified her of Durza's entrance, and shortly afterward Juliette, and she smiled wide. "Hey, guys!" came a cheerful greeting. The ruined fort did little to dismay her, especially not after catching sight of the cat that seemed to be...freaking out. Sort of. It still looked cute, though.

Durza's furry companion only blinked at the feline before attempting to climb up into a hammock. He was caught by the human and squirmed about in his 'master's' arms, dropping the umbrella to chatter up at the tattooed male. The young man simply took the umbrella from the bandit's little jaws. "This either of yours'?" he asked them, holding it up. "It doesn't look like one of mine; and I'm sure Umbrella can't earn these himself."

Juliette blinked and then looked down at her agitated feline. The cat's ears flattened against its skull as it watched it jump onto the hammock so close to its new human. "Oh," she knelt down and pressed a hand gently upon Duchess Dirtypaws' back in an attempt to calm her. The cat simply hissed again and growled lowly.
"I don't think she enjoyed the company of Lord Umbrella of Clearview. Perhaps old memories of her street life." Times were so tough for them all. She scooped the cat up in her arms, it was obvious it was still so tense. Her tail was so much puffier.
"It isn't mine." The older woman informed Durza.

Her fort was all forgotten as soon as she got a look at Duchess Dirtypaws, never mind Lord Umbrella of Clearview who was safe and chattering about in Durza's arms. It was too much cute she couldn't quite decide which pet she wanted to fawn over first. In the end she went with the more familiar of the two animals.
"Oh, aren't you the cutest thing~" she cooed for a moment before looking over at Durza. Her hand was still outstretched and trying to scritch at the Duchess's ear, though."Not mine, either. Maybe you could just hand it back to October? He'd have a lost and found sort of thing, I bet."
Her eyes then naturally moved down to Umbrella, the raccoon and new addition to the Clearview lot. "He's precious, Durza," she said, admiring from afar. "Bit of a rascal though. Are you sure it isn't one of yours?"

He blinked down at his raccoon before wrestling the umbrella from the bandit. "Oh, so it is," he mused as he set Umbrella down on the hammock so he could tuck the cocktail umbrella away. Of course, Lord Umbrella was curious about the feline and approached Duchess, sniffing at her.

The new hand was unwelcoming at first and Duchess Dirtypaws squirmed a little in Juliette's hold before finally caving and giving into the touch of affection. Her tail twitched and her head leaned into it and slowly she began to purr.
"Oh, I think she likes you," the older woman remarked happily.
Then another growl when she noticed the raccoon was right below her. The female felin glared down at the creature. "A shame she doesn't like you," she sighed, "maybe in time she will warm up to the cute little thing." How tempting it was to reach down and pet him, but she was sure the cat would not appreciate it. "Oh, it does often take time for a woman to change her mind about a man ~"

Mel beamed when the Duchess leaned into her touch, and she looked Juliette with probably the biggest smile she'd made since the start of this disaster. She kept right on scratching, in part to calm the poor girl when Lord Umbrella approached, sniffing and curious about the feline in Juliette's arms. The comment about women warming up to men taking time got a smirk out of her.
"No kidding," she agreed, then finally pulled her hand away from the Duchess. She then knelt and reached out cautiously, just so she didn't freak out Umbrella. "Give it time, li'l guy," she said softly before looking over at Durza again.
"Has Umbrella made nice with some of the other pets in the building?"

He shook his head, "No, he hasn't run into any other pets since I found him. Dutchess'll be his first encounter." He patted the animal's head as Umbrella stared up at the cat curiously. Lord Umbrella chattered up at her, an attempt at a conversation, perhaps. He wanted to be friends but wasn't having much luck.

"I wasn't aware there were others in the apartment," Juliette sounded so pleased and hopeful at the prospect, "how wonderful for others to find companionship in these dreary times!"
Duchess Dirtypaws still remained on the shoulder of the older woman, glaring down at the raccoon as he attempted communication. He simply got a low, angry meow; warning him to stay away.

She scratched at Umbrella's ear a little bit before retracting her hand, not wanting to freak the raccoon out with too much affection from a stranger.
Mel eventually straightened back up, gaze turning to Durza first as he spoke, then to Juliette when she did. "Yeah, it's good for them to make friends," she said with the slightest of nods as she regarded Duchess, who was still on edge because of the chattering Umbrella. It was absolutely adorable, even if Duchess didn't want to have anything to do with him. If phones still worked she would have pulled her out and started taking a video of him.
"Whatever he's saying, it isn't working to calm her down," she said after a while, a little worried that there didn't seem to be any improvement between the two. "Maybe you should separate them for now? Duchess looks like she's about ready to claw his eyes out...poor guy."

"I'm sure that if anything, he's trying to serenade her," Durza scoffed fondly. Umbrella turned to Mel and blinked, sitting up on his hind legs. "You wanna hold him?"the red-head asked Mel, offering her a chance to hold the exotic pet.
