Things had been going well. The young, who had never attended such a gala before, trotted happily beside the elders of their herds, who had attended many and had a wealth of stories and memories of their own to share. The forest glades echoed with laughter and the sound of happy voices raised in boisterous conversation.
There were places in the midst of the celebration for sober, reflective moments as well. The groves set aside for offerings to Rotona were quieter, quietly cloaking those who waited to pay their respects in a serene embrace. The tidepools forced reflection on most, though here and there, someone still laughed quietly or tossed their manes in amusement.
And yet for all that, there was something in the air. Something that made the hairs in many ears quiver. Was it a scent, cool and fleeting that was somehow out of place? Or a shiver in the bones, like the approach of a quickly approaching storm. Whatever the source, slowly but surely, a feeling of dread trickled over the gathered, settling like damp cloaks on tiny folk, unicorns and their companions alike.
The ominous pressure was broken by blood-chilling screech. They came from all directions, seeming to melt in to being from the shadows between trees. They were quick and they moved together, but not as a herd might. They moved like predators, like a pack, seeking to separate the weak from the rest and take them down.
They were unicorns, like most of those who attended the gala. Unicorns, or they had once been unicorns and had now been twisted into something else. There were recognizable shapes there, horns and wings and familiar hooves, but there was more to them. Twisted shapes that didn't belong in the light of day.
At the head of the invasion -- for what else could it be called -- came a stallion who loomed larger than even the tallest draft. Dark like the stormclouds themselves, his eyes were still bright, almost glowing in contrast to the depth of his hide. His gaze swept over those few unlucky enough to stand close and a cruel grin split his muzzle, revealing teeth as sharp as blades.
Unfurling leathern wings with a snap that echoed through the trees, he reared onto his back hooves and bellowed, "Take them! Take them all!"
Event 2:Gatekeeper's Sanctuary Day 2
- Escape the Invader!
Quote:
- This event will be up for 48 hours and is the last event for the Gatekeeper's Sanctuary. You may do this event until 5/7 8pm PST. Please note that the side events and exploration of the area will also close on this day .
- If you have to redo this event more than 3 times just skip to PART 4.
The sounds of pursuit surround you. Somewhere deeper in the forest, someone's cry for help is abruptly cut short. Closer, you hear panting breaths, heavy hoofbeats and then a thud shakes the ground beneath as someone, or something falls. Shadows shift around you, close, but not quite grazing as they whip by.
Muscles a-quiver, you must decide: Stand your ground or flee to survive?
In the event you choose not to run:
Some say to be truly brave, you must stand your ground. In some cases, they may be right.
Is it brave to face death? Only you can determine that. A shadowed, twisted form bears down on you and as it nears, you can tell it will show you no mercy.
exclaim.:The Chase Part 1:. - Roll 1d4. If you roll a 1-3,
You are too slow. The invading force overwhelms you and the world goes black. When you open your eyes again, you are in a clearing again and you can see that more shadowy shapes are fast approaching. (Restart the event)
If you roll a 4, keep going.
exclaim.:The Chase Part 2:. Gathering yourself, you spring into action, charging away from the invaders. A mare behind you calls out, "Wait for me!" but anything else she might have said is drowned by a deafening roar. You continue on as quickly (and quietly!) as you can. It's hard to tell whether they hunt by sound or movement, but whichever it is, you manage to escape the mare's fate. For now.
- Roll 1d6 again. If you roll 1 or 6
You were nearly there. A glance behind you showed that your pursuer was falling behind. Looking forward, you saw only a clear path between two great trees.
Until you were about to pass between them. At the last moment, a lithe shape, almost "normal" in silhouette, appeared directly in front of you. With a twitch of its flank, something long and sinuous snapped toward you, catching you in the chest and stealing your last breath.
(Restart the event)
exclaim.:The Chase Part 3:. You are now EVADING the Invader. Having thwarted those he sent after you, the bat-winged leader has decided it is up to him to capture you himself. Roll 1d4 TWICE to see the damage you take! It WILL hit you. RP accordingly. Do this in two different posts.
- If at any point you roll a 4
you are overtaken, knocked to the ground, and your last sight will be of the sharp-toothed leader looming over you. You get a glimpse of a forked tongue.
(Restart the event)
- If you have attempted this main quest more than three times and failed again, you may skip to the last part.
exclaim.:The Chase Part 4:.
It may have seemed like an eternity, but you survived the attack. From where you stand, surrounded by several other lucky souls, you can hear nothing but the sound of your own heart and the labored breathing of those around you. No hoofbeats approach, no one cries out for help anymore. The forest is silent and still.
Who were those creatures? What were they, and most importantly, why would they invade here and now, in the midst of this celebration? What could any of you possibly have done to incur their wrath or draw their attention?
And where have they gone? How did they disappear as quickly as they attacked? You may no longer trust the serenity of Rotona's Gala, but for now, it seems you're safe. Now the question asked should be, how do you stay that way?

My name:Lapels My faction: Nightmares Small IC description of character: Though capable of making friends and being civil, Lapels does not care much for others. She is not one to trust, and is liable to leave her friends behind if it means an opportunity for her. There's a running a joke that her smiles never reach her eyes. However, she is fond of stars and flying. Oracle Scribe:[ X ]
One look at the invaders, and Lapels knew... she sure as heck wasn't sticking around to see what would happen! Without even a "bye" or a glance around to see who else was around, she turned tail and fled.

They were too much and too fast. If Lapels had made any allies, she might have stood a chance. As it was, she was knocked to the ground and blacked out temporarily. She was sure this would be it, but when she woke, she found herself relatively unharmed and once again able to run. She just needed enough time to get herself into the air...

Yeah, nope. Lapels was not waiting for anybody, much less a stranger.

Lapels glanced behind her, hoping against hope that the brave sacrifice of the other corms would be enough for her to escape. Unfortunately, what she saw behind her wasn't the sight of carnage, or even a lackey giving chase, but the leader himself.

With a desperate burst of speed and some risky evasive maneuvers, Lapels was able to make her escape with only a few scrapes and bruises. But while her body was relatively unharmed, her spirit wavered. Frightened by the earlier proximity between the leader and herself, she fell back to the earth, seeking shelter among the foliage.

My name: Talya My faction: Nightmare Small IC description of character: A sense of nervousness nibbled upon the mare's mind, her stance shifting from hoof to hoof. Despite this, the sensation of excitement also enthralled her, capturing her willingly as she embarked upon a new step and journey upon this chapter of her life. Oracle Scribe:Zempre's Oracle Scribe
It happened so fast; to fast in fact. One moment the mood was cheerful and filled with excitement, the next a sense of horror was ransacking the celebrations as the 'monsters' showed up. The others looked similar to them, hooves, horns and wings, but they looked otherworldly as well that thought alone caused the blue mare to feel a sense of dread overwhelm her. Never had she seen anything quite as horrific..and nothing prepared her for the stallion that soon arouse ahead of the 'pack'. What..were these things? The leader was indescribably, Talya feeling her heart racing in fear as she soon saw the darken figures coming down upon all those around her. An order was given.
Take them all.
Snorting, she instinctively stomped a hoof into the ground, glaring at the nearest of darken substances that dared to come near her. No, she refused to be taken. She would fight. Never had she been told to back down and she hadn't survived through so much in her life to allow some....thing to capture her and those around her. However, fighting physically wasn't an option. She knew she had to run...to get away and regroup. Annoyed by such a thought, the female reared upon her hind hooves briefly before turning her form and sprinting away as fast as she could. The thing pursued after her, and she swore she felt something nipping at her heels like a wild dog. Something touched her side, a glance of a touch really. She didn't look back...couldn't. For if she did, she would know how close they were and then she would ----Darkness.
The mare groaned as she looked around. Had she blacked out? There wasn't much time to figure out why. She knew more were coming.

Talya got to her feet and a quick glance confirmed her guess; more were already coming after her. Gritting her teeth, she once more tried to get her legs to move beneath her, yelling at them to run as she tried to get away. These things were fast; very fast and now she wasn't sure if she could out run them at all! That didn't mean she wouldn't try! The mare intended to give it all she had! Another touch to her side followed, brief and almost nonexistent before---Darkness.
Groaning, she looked around in a daze. Had she blacked out again? These...things must be doing that when the touched her.

Once more she struggled to get to her feet, her legs feeling weak. Once more she willed them, perhaps even begged them to start to run and though she felt a slight pain echo through them, they obeyed. It was slow at first, but she managed to get into a quicker canter, ignoring the sweat that doused her blue coat or the sting in her side from where she had fallen during her blackouts. She had to get to safety; couldn't give up. There was those screaming for help all around her, those trying to survive just like her. One by one they began to quiet down and she knew the reason was not because they had escaped.
Talya groaned as she swore she heard the sound of another nearby and instinctively she knew it was another one of those creatures. They were fast...so fast. How could she ever expect to outrun them. It's hooves were closer, faster, and she knew it would be a matter of seconds before the darkness returned one more. Her legs burned, her lungs screamed in pain and as the darkness started to cloud her vision once more, like so many others the word for help would escape her before she blacked out once more.

My name: Fable My faction: Nightmare Small IC description of character: Fable is a somewhat small and dainty mare with a keen and piercing gaze. Her manner is distant, but intense, and she seems somewhat disconnected from those around her. Oracle Scribe:here
The festival is as bright and exciting as it was on the first day, and with the sun up Fable is able to take in details that she hadn't, before, when she'd arrived during the evening the night before. The foals seem especially happy to be here, and the mare can't help the slightest of smiles that graces her expression at one particularly young filly who prances and bounces around -- exclaiming at every new thing she lays her eyes on.
To be so young again, she thinks. Not that she herself is old, mind you, but still.... her own childhood seems far away.
Maybe it's that sudden thought that brings her back to the present. Or maybe it's the chill that runs unchecked down her spine. Whatever it is, Fable feels something is wrong. She can't quite put her hoof on it but there is certainly... .something.
A screech pierces the silence, and Fable jerks her head to the side, eyes falling wide and mouth parting in a soft 'o' of shock and surprise at the vision that unfolds before her. For a few moments she is simply frozen in place. Paralyzed. She's not even sure if what she feels can be entirely labeled as fear. She isn't thinking of it, really. She's never seen anything so terrible in her life -- not even in her dreams.
Then she is running. One of the things tries to attack her, and Fable narrowly avoids it with a shout of dismay and disgust. She doesn't slow down to look back. All of her instincts are screaming at her to run.

The darkness lifted...and there was the sounds of others around her. Had they captured her? Where they going to kill her? Fear almost prevented her from opening her eyes, but when she did she realized she was with others of her own kind. Some she may have recognized from brief glances around the celebrations. Unsure of what happened, she slowly got to her feet dirt staining her blue coat from the multiple falls. Had they rescued her? When she called for help? It was the only logic...someone had to have helped her? Maybe that was why the voice earlier got quiet, that she had been wrong.
Safe, she stayed with the herd of survivors, looking around and watching the evidence of chaos that had come down upon them. There was so many questions..to many in fact. Undoubtedly everyone felt an air of uneasiness from the events that just unfolded. Talya knew she did, and now she afraid for what was to come.

As Fable continues to run, her eyes scanning ahead for a path to run to, she hears another mare call out behind her. Her heart wrenches as she hears the deafening roar but she dares not look back or pause in her own escape.
A path ahead of her seems to show her the way out, and Fable makes a desperate attempt to reach it before the pursuers reach her. Just as she is about to enter, however, a shadow rears up in front of her and blocks her path. She's running too quickly to simply stop or change direction easily and before she can even try something black and hideous snaps out at her -- and then nothing.

She wakes in the clearing feeling groggy and weak, and surprised to be alive. A fast, dark, shape is bearing down on her, however, followed by many others. Fable pushes herself to her feet despite her wobbly knees and makes a break for it -- but weakened from her last ordeal she isn't fast enough. Blackness consumes her.

Her strength seems to fail her again as she opens her eyes once more. More dark shapes loom before her, and Fable feels fear clutch at her heart. How is she not dead by now? Once more they rush upon her, and she doesn't even have a chance.
