Littered throughout Rammalin are graveyards, the resting places for those who have passed. Some are memorialized in stone, others in the form of flowers and trees. Those citizens of Dokho that chose monuments of stone remain buried under their markers in the vast graveyard behind the Gatekeepers Sanctuary at the center of the misty coasts. The trees and flower groves, once sprinkled with cremated ashes, are left to grow in peace, tended by reverent family members. Of course, there are other graveyards scattered throughout all of Rammalin, but none quite as dramatic or vast as the one here on the Misty Coast.

Stones are scattered all across the grounds, some finely polished, others rough and natural, all carven with names. Certain stones' areas are kept clean and tidy, others seem abandoned and depressed. Some say the spirits can still watch the living here, the mist hiding them from sight.

As you stand at the edge of the mist shrouded graveyard, a strange feeling stirs inside you, a need to wander forward. Where exactly is this taking you? The King and Queen of Rammalin have said the gravestones were a place of mysteries and knowledge. Perhaps you can find more information about Rotona and the history of Rammalin’s past.

As you advance, you keep your gaze bravely forward, and before you know it, you find yourself confounded by obscuring mist and unfamiliar stones. Will you ever be able to find the secret that is calling out to you, or will you end up wandering in circles until you are beyond escape?

A large boulder stands to the left of you, red runes painted sloppily on it as if whoever placed it was in a hurry. To the right, a tiny stone that's not even marked. Where would you wander now?

You enter a clearing with many small, colorful stones meticulously place in the shape of a spiral mandala. You notice a few tiny folk watching the area, their gazes moving quietly up from the stones to peer at you. Perhaps this is the place where they bury their own dead? With a whisper of gossamer wings, the tiny folk flit off into the mist, leaving you alone once again in cool silence. Going forward would seem to lead into denser mists. To the right is a hazy collection of strange stone arches. To the left, an even deeper silence...

Finally coming to the end of the maze that was the stone graveyard you look forward in awe at the towering stone pillars that make up a sort of stronghold for one towering marble tree. Stepping forward into the circle, you feel a palpable relief as you glance lower, to strange markings in the ground close to the tree’s trunk. It looks like someone has been here, and recently too.

Abrax
My name: Abrax
My faction: Nightmare
Small IC description of character: Aloof, self-centered, selfish, judgemental.
Oracle Scribe: Abrax's Oracle Scribe

It was not in Abrax's nature to be overly curious about his past, or the past of Rammalin as a whole. The stallion was more preoccupied with his direct self, and the present. A practical creature by nature, it often came off as aloof or cold for his blind sense of drive and for his ability to make decisions based on what was logically more advantageous, regardless of the potential hurt feelings. It wasn't his job to make sure that everyone was happy. Abrax focused intently on making sure he was alive, healthy, and well-fed. Shortly past that, his compassion stopped.

But the growing hubbub at the center of the gala was eating away at Abrax's peace of mind. He needed to be alone. Without quite knowing where he was going, the stallion simply let his hooves carry him away. They were strong, sturdy, and sure. His hooves had never failed him before. He trusted them.

It was a strange and eerie place his hooves brought him too, all shrouded in that magick mist that hung so ominously. His hindquarters visibly crawled as the mist rose up and crawled over him. Driven by a combination of things- the desire to be away and unable to be found, the dislike of how the mist made his skin crawl, and a strange unknown motivation suddenly sprouted deep in his being- Abrax kept moving forward. His hooves strike noisily off a large rock strewn haphazardly in his path, and he has to instinctively readjust his footing.

"Sloppy," he grunts before lifting his head to note the red runes painted on a massive boulder to his direct left. It easily eclipses his own height, so the stallion has to tilt his head to get a good angle for inspection. The red paint that was used to mark runes onto the stone had not been given the proper amount of time to dry for there were drips and drags across the boulder's surface. Abrax stood for a moment, trying to puzzle out what the runes might indicate, but that strange and incessant motivation to keep moving had him mobile again before long...

With a dramatic and almost wistful sigh, like a lover being cast aside, the mists parted to reveal a clearing just ahead. Abrax took care not to let his hooves knock any of the small, colorful stones that were obviously placed with great care on the ground. They formed a very curious pattern; the brawny stallion turned on his hindquarters to inspect the way the rocks curved and twirled and came together to form a pattern too complex for Abrax to distinguish while he was so close.

The sudden whisper of gossamer wings alight on the mist elicited a single ear flicker, twisting and straining to catch the sound before it secreted away. The star-kissed stallion was granted only the most fleeting of sightings of the tiny folk before they were gone.

What was this place?

It happened so suddenly that later, Abrax could not explain how- but one moment he was wondering what the tiny folk made of their little clearing, and the next moment his rump was brushing against the large stone with sloppy red runes.

"What the-," he almost cursed, snorting in displeasure while his ears lay flat against his skull. What kind of magic was in this place?

Then it happened again!

Without any kind of warning nor indication of being pulled backwards, Abrax was simply back at the entrance to the graveyard. His ears remained flattened to display his apprehension and defense. He might have even bared teeth at the next living creature to cross his path.

But the strange rock of curiosity weighing heavily in the pit of his stomach would not let him turn tail and give up just yet. Abrax grit his teeth and lowered his head and went not so quietly to the place where the large boulder bore hasty red runes. The stallion gave pause to briefly consider whether this was the wisest course of action...

...and found within himself a stalwart resolve to keep moving. He could not yet give up his course of action not could he admit defeat so readily. Seeing the fleeing tiny folk for however brief it had been, had indeed sparked within him a personal curiosity that now needed to be sated.

Abrax moved forward.

He felt sluggish, like he was moving through a quagmire whose greedy hands sought to drag him down to the depth never to be seen again. Had he even made any measurable progress? surely he had taken literal steps- but how could it be so that his bobtail brushed the large boulder when it wagged.

Abrax snorted in denial. He was moving...

Abrax threw back his head and whinnied triumphantly, breaking the lack of sound amongst the mist and long-departed with a raucous cry. The symmetrical pattern of colored rocks was once again beneath his hooves, though the tiny folk still remained elsewhere. When the last echoes of his exultant celebration fade, Abrax can feel the silence pressing upon him from the left. Instinctively, his body angles to the right- where there may be stone arches looming just beyond the mist...
PostPosted: Fri May 01, 2015 10:20 am

The silence creeps ever closer, like a ravenous predator all shadows and threats of violent attack. Even Abrax, characteristically stalwart and sure, feels the welling urge to flee. With not quite panic carrying him away the stallion does make a hasty move to the right where the stone arches seem like a promise of safe haven. Remarkably, the maze indeed has and end point and relief washes over Abrax tangibly. For but a moment, the stallion hangs his head and inhales deeply the sweet and refreshing air that fills the immediate area.

Composure regained, Abrax is once again all hard lines and tough looks. But even he is visibly awed by the massive marble tree at the end of the maze. Awe turns quickly to curiosity tickled with confusion- what is the tree for? How did it come to be here? Abrax moves closer to the tree, perhaps to touch it- but is drawn up short when he almost places a hoof directly down on some strange glowing mark.

"Well now," he murmurs with the sudden return of some hesitation. Uneasily, Abrax snorts and tosses his mane while raising his head... sloooowly. His ears like miniature replicas of the towers protecting the tree, Abrax strains to pick up something, anything to confirm his suspicion that he is most decidedly not alone.

My name: Talya
My faction: Nightmare
Small IC description of character: A sense of nervousness nibbled upon the mare's mind, her stance shifting from hoof to hoof. Despite this, the sensation of excitement also enthralled her, capturing her willingly as she embarked upon a new step and journey upon this chapter of her life.
Oracle Scribe: Zempre's Oracle Scribe

A chilling sensation seemed to wrap around the mare as she found her hooves had lead her to a world of death and mystery. Countless items used as headstones littered around her while a heavy mist weaved it's fingers to entangle anything it touched within them. It was eerie, foreboding and yet the mare felt something tugging upon her, begging her to venture through the unnatural world before her. Beside her, she saw a large boulder with hastily painted symbols of crimson upon it. Her brow furrowed as she studied the runes, trying to commit them to memory in effort of inquiring about them at a later date. Tayla began to walk forward, careful not to step upon any markings of the dead as she now sought a way out of the graveyard. It wasn't that she was scared, the prideful mare unwilling to admit this, it was that...she was slightly unnerved by a sensation about her. It was as if..she was being watched. That thought caused her to tremble faintly, only to halt as she looked to her left once more. There beside her was a bolder...crimson red runes painted hastily upon it. Another one? No...it couldn't be, they were identical. Furrowing her brows, she felt foolish. Surely she had just walked in a circle..

The mare took a deep breath, hoping to find a way out of the graveyard. She moved steadily now, keeping her eyes focused forward as she sought for any sign of another within this ghoulish maze. However, she soon found herself at the entrance and her brows knitted. She had been searching for the exit...and had returned to the beginning? Frowning, she turned around, trying to retrace her steps. Something wasn't right.
