History: [Arkesh was an orphaned street rat. His parents died of a plague when he was just a baby. With no one available to take care of him he ended up in an orphanage. The home was poorly run and filthy. He survived by stealing and begging until he was seven. The orphanage had a terrible reputation of selling unwanted children off as slaves or labor workers.
Arkesh was sold to one of these places. The Red Sands, one of a handful of crime organizations, often bought children and trained them to be master thieves and assassins. Arkesh would be hardened by the Sands’ deadly and rigorous training. Boys were often put against one another and forced to kill or be killed. They broke him down made him think he was nothing, in order to build him up and shape him into the deadly tool he is now. Arkesh and the boys who survived became the closest thing to family he had ever had. They were a band of skilled and deadly misfits.
He lived day to day, enjoying each moment, and every job. He and his brothers and sisters were skilled and in high demand. Oba’s elite, and wealthy families were very ambitious and often resorted to the Red Sands to do their dirty work. Arkesh worked his way up through the ranks and was very popular amongst the others in the organization. There were even talks of making him the Sands leader. But it all fell apart when he failed to complete a contract. He was assigned to assassinate the king’s soon to be nephew inlaw.
The king's niece Nashira was renowned for her beauty and a much-desired bride. A rival to her would be husband wanted the fiance out of the picture. Arkesh was hired to assassinate her fiance before the wedding. He posed as a wedding planner and got close the couple, learning what he could before making his move. In the process, Nashira came to fancy Arkesh. One night she invited him into her bed, but they were abruptly interrupted by her betrothed. Nashira started to scream and threw Arkesh off of her. She was kicking and shouting and accused Arkesh of trying to harm her. When the fiance rushed in to save his bride Arkesh knew he wouldn't get another chance to kill his target. He drew his dagger to slay the fiance but was apprehended by the personal guards.
He was quickly thrown in jail. The punishment for attempted assassination was severe and Arkesh knew he didn’t have much time. He reached out to his organization for help. Apparently, Arkesh was being accused of the attempted assassination of Nashira and not her fiance. Her being Oban royalty, made him a traitor to the King. On top of it, all the Red Sands were under fire from the authorities and it was rumored that Arkesh had leaked information and was labeled a deserter.
Arkesh was once again alone with no one to turn to, and the world wanted him dead. He felt betrayed by his own family and knew he had no chance of surviving in Oba if he escaped. He made the decision to flee Oba. He broke from his cell and made fast for the border. He left his home, family and all that was precious to him in the hot desert sands. ]
