Or ignored on a good day, anyway. Such were the moods that dominated Loqi’s young life and what he learned to mirror toward other people. Born the first and only son of an impoverished farmer and his good-for-nothing, lazy homebody of a wife, he wasn’t exactly a planned or necessary addition to their lives. His mother was continuously offended that she actually had to do anything to keep him alive (like feed and clothe him), and his father decided at the very beginning that he didn’t want to deal with a little boy who wasn’t old enough to be of use to him. To a toddler who’d done nothing but exist and who wanted nothing but a positive home life, the anger and irritation at his ‘constant interference’ was confusing, hurtful, and incomprehensible.
It wasn't like he could avoid them. Their house consisted of a single room! They hadn't passed him off to anyone else, and he didn't exactly have friends or exploring rights. It was like they wanted a plant. Something that would just sit there and grow silently until it was ready to bear fruit.
To a growing and learning teenage boy, who’d never had any chance to learn social skills with anyone beyond these two neglectful people, his parents’ upset was just a reason for him to be at least as equally mad, hateful, unhelpful, unnecessarily mean, and intolerant as they were. What started as an, albeit horrible, but virtually physically painless existence between these three unhappy entities rapidly deteriorated the near instant Loqias had the wherewithal to start defending himself.
During his youngest years, it was only muttered complaints about his uselessness and how they hadn't wanted him. When he grew old enough to question that, it turned to screaming. When Loqi decided he had just as much to scream about as anyone else, their altercations turned physical.
Due to lack of proper care and nutrition as a youngster, Loqias is significantly smaller than both his parents. These were losing battles, and though he learned to occasionally temper the worst of his rage while in their immediate presence, understand that it wasn’t out of fear. He doesn’t fear being hurt, because it’s what he’s used to. But it is senseless to fight this fight when he’s achieving so little himself. He isn’t strong or smart enough to handle these issues now. Better to wait for a more opportune time. But it better come quick.
