Father and mother were horrified, they had heard about the recent thefts that had been plaguing the city only to learn that it was Yejide their own daughter who was behind them. Nkole has been instructed to hunt down his sister and bring her to them, but word had gotten out that she had left the city and thus he had been instructed to not return home until Yejide was captured. Silent and stern Nkole had accepted the task with no resistance, after all it was his father and mother asking them and he gave them nothing but respect...to their faces anyway.
A bag packed for light travel a ceremonial dagger given to the 'favored' son that was in all honesty more for show than use and he was off. Nkole of course wasn't a stupid man, he knew that the world out there was ripe for the picking and with their recent victory the rest of the world was still smarting from the defeat. They had a plan, a well thought out one to allow them to escape the world they had been forced to live. But strangely...someone had forgotten to follow it...
Outside of the city he had awaited at their appointed meeting place for what felt like hours and soon became a reality. The sun was high above his head when he finally grumbling retreated from the rather suspicious meeting area. Where had she gone? Did she get caught? The thoughts plagued him but he couldn't turn around and search the city in case his parents caught him instead. They would demand to know why he had returned empty handed and for him to admit that he had no idea where his sister had run off to would be shameful.
Grumbling he began packing his things up and went to start walking. After all he had to find her. Maybe she had been forced to continue onward and was being pursued and that was why she hadn't stayed in the spot they had agree'd upon. It would make sense since he trusted his sister, or at least he thought he did. Nkole felt that perhaps the reason for his sibling and himself to want to flee the city was due to the fact they didn't want to sit idly around having their lives lived for them.
Nkole was to take over his fathers position in the military and though he was proud of what his dad did for their people he was honestly had no interest in leading people into war. He would much rather travel and charm people which he had done rather well in the past. Though he would be in for a rude awakening. The people outside of Oba were not only rude but suspicious and for good reason. His people had attempted to overthrow and take over their lands and he knew it would only be a matter of time before that became a reality.
Still Nkole was forced to walk off the main roads when he was leaving the Oban borders. People who feared his dark skin would rush off, others became aggressive to the point that he had to run for his life. There was no matter of charm he could work on people who were spurred by fear. In fact they tended to react poorly towards him wether he remained silent or spoke. So avoiding people for the time being would be best. Still...where the heck was she??
The poor young man looked all over the place for her, high and low in places that seemed obvious and even those that weren't. She must of been chased if he still couldn't find her at this point. How far did she flee from the Oban borders?
Sighing Nkole sat on boulder taking a short break. It was hot, the bugs were annoying and he shouldn't have to sweat so much. He felt gross and wanted nothing more than a soak in the pool at their home. A scented bath to sooth his aching arms and legs and help with his gradually darkening skin from the sun. Hunger was another problem. He had only packed enough rations to last him several days, but in his confidence in finding his sister he hadn't been careful to actually ration anything out. Nearly out of water and food he had ample coin but who would sell to him?
No he couldn't go into the towns...the outsiders would most likely try to kidnap him for ransom and he wasn't about to let that happen. It would be shameful to return home only because he was a prisoner. There had to be Oban's somewhere around here. After all if they were planning a full scale invasion they had to set up somewhere.
Nkole wasn't a stupid boy, although naive and inexperienced, but he was able to spot the tracks of heavy carts and many feet of people as well pack animals. They were headed north west....and Nkole felt that it was a good idea to follow them. The longer he did the more evidence came to light that he was most likely following a Oban caravan. Weapons of war looked like they were being pulled towards the location they had planned on invading next.
It was hopeful...if he could catch up with his people he wouldn't have to worry about food or water. His dagger would acquire him rank without him even trying and things would be easy going from there. Feeling hopeful a new determination set him on a brisker pace.
Only to Nkole's astonishment.....he was faced with an expanse of forest that looked neither friendly nor easy to navigate. Grumbling he shouldered his pack on his aching shoulders. His lips were chaped from thirst and he didn't have much choice but to enter this...rather forboading looking forest..

Versatile Prompt
Username || [Jayoku] Character Name || [Nkole.] Prompt || Why anyone would want to live here was beyond him, it was hot, but a different kind of warm from his home country. This was the sort of warm that made you feel like you were melting, sweat gathering on your skin to drip constantly. Your clothing clinging to your arms, legs...making everything feel just disgusting. With hair clinging in his face he had found himself in a grouchy mood. Where the heck was Yejide? Sitting down on a root he felt his breath stick in his throat, causing him to cough. It was annoying enough that it was so hot, so why wasn't he able to locate his sibling? His travels so far from home were only to 'collect' his sister, which they had arranged themselves to meet outside of their home town. Now he was all the way to the forest of Jahaur where the war had been held. During his travels through the forest he had come across a strange blind man by the name of Makani. Being blind he didn't judge Nkole by his appearance and had even helped him get his foot free of a tangle of roots he had got caught in. He had 'fooled' the man and reaped some information from him. Like the location of where Neued was before he made his departure and stumbled across the Oban encampment. Now that he was here he had wanted to glean some information from the generals there as well use his information to get the upper hand. When the call to arms was announced he knew he would have little choice but to fight. After all his father was the lead adviser to the king back home, it would be expected of the 'good son' to partake in the war. Unwittingly he had made those aware in the camp about who he was, the fancy scabbard on his waist with his family crest was a dead give away. Nkole had thought he would have an easier time if people knew whom his father was, instead it had been the opposite. As he still couldn't locate his sister, now he would be stuck on the front lines. Though he wasn't opposed to fighting, his people deserved these lands and the rest of Tendaji shold of realized their superiority by now. Why they were so foolishly resisting was beyond him. His father would undoubtedly proud of his participation in the war, if he could come back with some sort of reconignition he was sure it would be easy living. Or it would be worse. Playing the dutiful son was stressfull. But it wasn't anything he couldn't handle. At least he hoped so.
