Memories~
We wished we had stayed orphans. It would have been much better than the fleeting happiness that we had after changing from pokémon. It is funny how quickly life can change on ya. One moment we’ll be swinging from the ropes with a trainer and sharing ice cream after the show then the next we’ll be tied down by those same ropes while watching ice drip over our trainer’s cold grave. Of course when I do ponder over it those ruined memories did still have some happiness before they were destroyed. Raiden will huff about it and act like he doesn’t want to say a thing, but I can’t help reminiscing about it.
Acrobatics were always our thing.
Even as mareep children we were adorable in the way we could perform with our owner. He was a small thing herself, more of a wisp than a person. Yet his personality could fill up an entire stadium. That was what I loved the most about him. Being in the circus was a tough act after all and somehow someone so small made it all seem so easy. Even I had terrible stage fright at first, “It’s okay little one you’ve got this. Just show them your pretty eyes and style!”
Their motivation and courage fueled mine. As long as he was there watching us and acting on stage with us I was fine. Raiden didn’t even flinch, of course he grumped about it instead yet he was never afraid like I was. I was different, always afraid of being judged. Probably because I was a shiny and not like him and the others. I always hated being different when I was younger. Raiden had it easy, he could slip in with others of our kind without a problem.
He, however, was jealous of how beautifully I stood out. Maybe I was just too shy to admit it, to admit that I was different than my dearest twin. Still every hint of beauty I had I saw strength just as beautiful in him. So in a way we were even. I was just a hell of a lot more stubborn than him about it.
Our change brought even more confusion. Suddenly the two mareeps comfortable in their place in life changed over to two awkward children sparking electricity. It was when we were lost and in rags that HE found us. He took us in and didn’t care that we were “freaks” and doted on Raiden and I. He was the rare glimpse into unconditional love. Raiden still became more protective and once he learned how to use his body started to seriously train in the fighting styles of humans. Of course I didn’t understand his intentions at first and just childishly teased him while admiring him from afar. “You swing that sword, Rai-Rai!”
A flush as he turned to gaze at me with his familiar scowl, “Do you hafta call me that Raxka?”
I giggled and bounced over to him with my pigtails floating behind me, “Why not? I like callin’ ya that!”
Raiden just shook his head, “Fine.”
“You know you love me~”
“Somedays.”
Life was peaceful for the most part. We fell into a typical pattern of daily training and evening shows while I started taking to the ropes. I really loved the feeling of being in the air and swinging back and forth. It was beautiful feeling so free. Well as free as could be. Our trainer, our “father”, provided for us and incorporated us into his act with Raiden tending to the sword display while I twisted in the air. We were just children, but as Poke-humans we had so much more ability…
So much more that it would attract unwanted attention.
They tried to buy us from him. They pulled every string they had in their power to try to get us, the amazing twins, into their “care”. It was because of them that our short happiness was ruined. All I can remember of that day is waking up and being dragged out of bed by Raiden in an attempt to flee. However, we were met with chains and ropes. Blood dripped into a puddle by the main tent and a hand bearing a familiar signet ring rested there while the rest of the body was hidden away by cloth.
Unaware of the burning pain of the ropes that binded me I had thrashed against my bonds towards that hand. That was the hand that had fed me, comforted me, and had taught me so many things. That hand was supposed to be full of life not lying listless on the ground! My heart shattered as I reached forward for that hand, but was only yanked further away.
All I remember now is Raiden’s screams of rage blending in with my wailing heart.
Maybe my twin was right. Now that I sit here remembering things perhaps forgetting was the better option. Because from there on out was a dark time. A dark time saved only by the golden eyes of a trickster who reached out to us and dragged us from our chains.
That though is another memory for another day.
Right now I’m tired of these memories so here’s to sleep and to a better tomorrow~

Ace's Change~
It was dark inside, a pitch black hole that swallowed all the light around them. Reaching out his hands Tryce watched as the faint glow from his markings barely gave some light to the area before them. Looking back towards the twins he smirked, “Seems like it’ll be a fun surprise.” His golden gaze gleamed as he looked around them one last time. A trail had led here into the heart of the island where some strange cliffs gathered. The tropical air had turned into an evergreen forest as they had gotten closer leaving them with a chilly air. If it wasn’t in the middle of a set of tropical islands Tryce would have nearly expected it to be snowing soon.
Maybe it still would.
Huffing a mist left Raxka’s mouth as she rubbed her arms, “We aren’t even inside yet and I’m already feeling like a Popsicle.” Maybe she really should have listened to her twin for once. Her typical skin showing leather was leaving her bare skin icy. How Tryce didn’t seem affected with his sleeveless outfit she didn’t understand. Then again he had always been her tough guy. The thought made the shiny smirk as she scanned around them.
Tall dark pillars coated in silver strands of ivy stood before them. Hieroglyphs from forever ago seemed to have faded through time and had cracks and new etchings marked over them by nature’s touch. It was a cold marble though she felt it through her gloves as she reached out to stroke the shimmering surface. Her observations were only distracted by the sudden feeling of warmth along her shoulders. Blinking she looked back towards Raiden who was now without his own coat as he had tossed it onto her shoulders.
“I’ll be fine.” He commented sharply before she could protest, “Shouldn’t we get going inside already? The longer we stare around out here the longer we risk being spotted.” As he spoke his hands drifted down towards the katana lying against his side. He hated lingering since it left them open to attack. He would much rather be in a space where they could see any attackers first.
“This isn’t a heist so I’m hoping it’ll be quiet tonight.” Commented Tryce, but still he did take a step forward, “Either way let’s get this party started.” Taking the duffle bag from his shoulders the umbreon tossed it forward into the dark opening before sliding in himself. It was dark and damp and the teen had to wince as his back scrapped against some sharp rocks. Not my best entrance, but it’ll do. Once the shrine must have had a grand entrance, but since it had been abandoned ages ago the entrance had been covered up by nature and fallen rocks leaving only that hole behind.
Reaching a hand out Tryce caught Raxka about the waist and she spun into him for her own balance, “Thanks.” She breathed against his neck in her typical flirting way. Leaving the lightest of kisses there the shiny ampharos reached a hand out and helped Raiden to find his feet as he too slid inside, “Do you think it could be any darker in here?” She questioned squinting into the darkness trying to make sense of the faint sight that Tryce’s glowing markings gave them.
“If we hide Ace away then yes.” Using Tryce’s nickname for their night lives made this an official mission. Raiden reached out and flicked on his flashlight, “There’s more in the bag if you guys need, but let’s get a bit further inside before we light up the whole place.” The last thing they needed was to make a flashing sign that they were here by the entrance for all to see.
Nodding her head Raxka just let her hands spark up a few times before taking some steps forward, “I’m confused. So this was inside a cave the whole time?”
“Yeah.” Tryce’s grin lit up in the darkness, “Cool isn’t it? I’m sure the shrine stood on top where we just were as a gateway inside of here. It must have been very elegant with huge pillars of marble and a middle hall that stretched above this here with only a door for the priests and sacred maidens to get through.”
“A huge shrine to just cover up this hole?” Raxka shook her head. Some people had no style. Why not just make some elaborate shrine and move this whole cave out of the way? She shivered and clutched Raiden’s coat closer to her body. It definitely would have been better than being in this damp and cold place.
“You’ll see.”
She could only shake her head. Ever since trying to find a blessing from a legendary Tryce had dragged them through so many weird places. Even Ilmari had gotten involved in some of his misadventures, but now once more it was her turn. I just don’t understand why he’s so driven to find something. She thought he was perfect as he was, but he acted like a part of himself was still missing. The ironies of life, a thief felt like life had stolen something from him.
The caverns must have felt like he was the thief though. Step after step seemed to be full of challenges as the trio moved forward. Once they had to fight back against ancient traps of arrows and spears while another time running on a bridge as it crashed behind them. Every moment seemed to lead through traps and Raxka felt like any other poor soul may have found themselves crushed by the passage. Still though as the trio came across one last bridge she found that the cave was somehow managing to get darker as they continued.
The party grew quiet as they continued on into the darkness. Only the faintest sounds of dripping ice was heard in the distance and the occasional slip of feet made the only noise from inside the cave. It was like entering a strange world from another time. Tryce though found himself fascinated and would occasionally move to the side to inspect a piece of the wall were icy formations hung and others where etches faintly remained.
Now that things were finally quiet Raxka found herself bored and wondering how far the cave went when suddenly a faint light shimmered up ahead of them. “What is that?” She whispered while clinging to Tryce’s hand. Had they already found an exit? Was it a false alarm after all? As the slippery slope turned into solid stairs she felt like that was not the case.
Shimmering colors of light blue danced off of the ice around them as they emerged in to the top level of the cave. Here was where those who had made it through the passages of trial had received their honors. While most of the passage had lost the truth of the trials of darkness due to the span of time abandoned the few things that remained stayed here. Tryce smirked as he reached his hand into the bag at his side and emerged with glowing crystal balls.
“Are you certain you want to go on?” Raiden asked quietly. Before them stood the same pillars from earlier, but these had not been touched by nature like the others. They instead gleamed with a coating of what appeared to be pure crystal or even ice and beneath the surface stood etches of an old language. Wrapping around them were strands of ice and ribbon that created a small island in the middle of the pool of hot waters that circled around the center. Sitting there was a frozen statue of a legendary bird that had its wings wrapped tightly around the object before it.
“It would be a shame to back down now right?” Tryce smirked as he headed forward.
It was a true statement. The trio had fought hard and long to gather all three of the balls of light that the umbreon held in his hands. Even getting onto the island to get near the shrine had been a hassle as the teens had to fight against a gang of poke-humans guarding the entrance. The family that had lived on this island for years had been told to guard it and had guarded it well until now. Even they had forgotten what rested ahead.
As Tryce went forward he felt energy surging from each pillar. Every step though got him closer to his goal and he felt his heart racing. Pillar one he placed in the shimmering orb of violet and watched as the formations shifted around him. More energy spilled out as he placed one more crystal into place and as he placed the last he watched the bird’s statue.
Eyes glowing it seemed to speak to him as he moved forward.
Raxka wrapped her arms around Raiden’s for comfort, “Do you think he’ll be okay without us right there?” She whispered while straining to see exactly what was going on up ahead. It was hard though because the mist from the hot springs blended in with the lights creating a wall to block their vision. Still though she knew Tryce and she knew him well. Any challenges before he had always conquered so why would now be any different?
All she knew was that the mist separated the moment he fell to the ground. Raxka and Raiden both reacted lightning fast and ran towards the umbreon's side. What had happened? Tears burned her eyes in worry.
“Tryce, Tryce!” The shiny ampharos clutched him in her arms as he closed his eyes. What had happened? Wasn't this supposed to help him not do this? He looked like death and he felt so cold!
He would be alright, right?
He had to be!

Power Gem!
She had always loved watching those pokemon at the beauty contests. All of their moves always seemed so right, so elegant. Once I could have played around like that. She had been in a fine circus act, after all. Still Raxka could only sigh at the memories.
“I’m just good for shocking the hell out of everything.” She laughed at the thought. Shock others both mentally and physically. Dressed once more in her black leathers the thief finished glancing at her reflection to finish scaling down the building. Around her side was a heavy bag, secured tightly by her belt. Every so often her movements down the building would cause a strange clunking sound.
“Shhh…you’ll be okay.” Smirking the ampharos patted the bag of gemstones before letting go of her rope. It was only a few feet down and she made the drop pretty effortlessly. Now that was a performance! I don’t know if papa would have been proud of how we use our techniques, but hey it works.
Well for the most part…
Sighing, Raxka gazed up as a familiar band of thieves came out of the shadows. “Again boys?” She tossed a strand of hair back over her shoulder, “Do I dare guess at what you’re wanting this time?” Oooooh, there’s the snarl.
“You know what we want.” Jolty, as she called him at least since he was a jolteon, approached her with his hands out, “Seems you’re all alone tonight, Sparkles. We’ll just take the gemstones and you can actually leave without a scratch.”
“Oh, really?” Raxka pretended to fan herself, “I doubt you boys will want to leave a precious flower like me alone here. Also, I hope you realize that diamonds are a girl’s best friend and I don’t give up on my friends so easily.” Smirking ever so slightly she took a few steps to the side as if to walk around them, “Now if you please. I’ll promise to go gently on you if you back off now.”
“You don’t have Ace or that stupid hulk with you tonight, girl.” Jolty really seemed pissed tonight. Raxka had to cover her laughter as he moved forward. What was he going to do? Shock her?
Though her gaze did shift over as she noticed two geodes at his side, “Ah. I see you brought the rocks to collect the rocks?” Still it wasn’t like she was solely electric.
“You’re surrounded. Can’t you just be a good girl and give up those stones, hmm? I might even take you out to dinner if you behave…”
“Uh, no thanks.” Raxka rolled her eyes, “I’m rather picky about who I date and darlin’ you just don’t make the cut today.”
But there was something that did. I have been wanting a pretty move… She had trained hard for this moment. Laughing, the ampharos made a break for it and slipped across the grass to tumble past a few of the pokemon. “But there are some things that do make the cut!” She managed before tossing out her hands. POWER GEM!!!
Ooooh, those stones did look pretty!
Probably prettier than the gemstones in her satchel actually. Thankfully they provided enough gleam and sparkle to distract, and possibly maim, the better of the crowd. It didn’t take much to help her to slither away into the darkness. Raxka preferred to leave the real fighting to the boys after all. They could get themselves all busted up for fun, but she preferred her delicate features all in one peace.
And now she could bedazzle the crowds and disappear.
That was pretty neat.

Thunder
Ever since Tryce had become a hybrid the boys had been intent on training. “Ice powers for days to control.” Muttered Raxka as she tried to fix her hair from its frizz, “Why couldn’t it be fire power or something?” Even with the hot springs the place bit into her bones. The other islands were nice and warm, but that place was definitely a far cry from any summer resort.
Zapdos Island. She had stared at the mountains that day after landing on the shore. She could feel herself charging on the island with the intense electrical fields. Everything here was alive and powerful. Rather than an icy chill or an intense heat she felt instead a feisty tingle. “Just how I like it.” Smirking the girl raised her arms in a stretch, “This feels very nice.”
But now what?
The boys had wanted her to try coming here so that she could expand her own abilities, but the girl didn’t even know what she wanted. Still there was something strong in the air that filled her with some sort of inner passion. “I always was more connected with my electrical side.” She smirked at the commentary, but it was true. Raiden had inherited more dragon powers than her…yet she could always bring a good shock to any fight.
Meditating, fighting, training, running….Raxka spent several days on the island. Yet there were no signs of new powers. Frowning the ampharos had just shaken her head before getting back on her boat, “There’s no point if I can’t do anything while I’m here.” She was missing out on shopping and good tv dramas! There wasn’t any connections out here after all. Which was a shame really. She could really turn this place into an electrical resort. Let Tryce keep his icy palace, she’d build something stunning here instead. Maybe a crystal palace? Now that would definitely gleam in the sunlight…
It was when Raxka returned home that she felt the change. It had been subtle at first, but now that she stared in the mirror the girl frowned. “What am I to do with my hair?” All the static kept making it stand on end! What am I the bride of Frankenstein? She sighed before going back to work on the curls again.
Such a hassle…
Then she couldn’t touch her electronics. They all seemed to over charge and then shorten out in a few seconds. The microwave almost exploded on her and then the lights in the whole house ended up blowing in one consecutive stream. It definitely made her want to yell.
“What’s wrong with me?” Raxka tugged at her hair before turning down a forest path. She couldn’t stay in the city like this! Everything was connected to power and so it would all just spark around her. I feel like a baby again just sparking all over the palce. What a pain.
Still as she reached a huge clearing, that was thankfully emptied at her approach, the girl sat. Oh, looks like a storm is coming. Clouds gathered above her and Raxka leaned back in the grass as if to enjoy. She did love a good thunder storm….Wait a second. Slowly pieces were coming into place. Hadn’t going to the island served to help her to grow and change? I sucked in so much electricity there…
Standing Raxka spread her arms towards the skies, “Alright let’s do this thing!” There was one way to see if she had enough power to catch up with the boys….”Thunder! Could she really do it? Raxka closed her eyes before glancing upwards. Nothing, absolutely nothing. Why was she still feeling so tingly then? Her stomach felt warm and it was like the electricity was dancing its way up her body…towards her finger tips.
“I’m going to look so silly.” She whispered under her breath before trying one more time and then another time…frustration was building up and it was finally in that moment when she screamed that the skies lit up in a brilliant flash of lightning and electricity went over the whole field to hit a fallen tree. Exhausted Raxka fell backwards to laugh at the whole situation. Thunder…. What an exhausting move to learn.
Perhaps now she could just lay back and take a nap. Surely that would be alright.
