"Hello? Is anyone here?"Laram pushed open the front door and walked in to the air conditioned store with his new partner following close behind. The store was a mess. The shelves were pretty bare, and it could use some cleaning. Laram and Froakie made their way to the empty front counter, and looked around for the shop owner. He was nowhere in sight, but Laram heard a sound from in the back. His new Froakie disappeared from sight. Laram cocked his head as he heard the little frog jump onto the counter then crouch. That's a pretty useful skill to have. I'll have to teach him how to move more quietly. If he can learn to hide his presence while moving, he can become virtually undetectable. As Laram contemplated the possibilities, a small framed old man appeared from nowhere and sat behind the counter.
"What would you like to purchase today? We have some excellent TM's for sale if you are a Pokémon trainer."Laram scratched his head sheepishly.Well, I don't actually have any money. It took everything I had to buy a boat ticket here."The man scowled, but it didn't last long. It looked like a light bulb went off in his head."Oh, you're responding to the ad I put on the notice board. That's fine, that's fine."The ad, right...""My grandchildren used to come in every day and help me with the store. But recently, they don't seem to want to help me. I'm not as young as I used to be."The man interrupted Laram and immediately trailed off. It was obvious that his mind was starting to go. It was sad about his grandchildren, but Laram had little sympathy for family problems. In truth, he had no idea that the old man had put a help wanted ad out. He was going to ask for work anyway, so things worked out perfectly. The man nodded off and began to snore sitting on his stool. Laram heard Froakie flick the man awake, and couldn't help but snicker.
"Just start with cleaning up the store. There's a broom over there in the corner. Once everything is more tidy, I'll have you stock the shelves."With that, the old man was back to snoozing. Laram sighed and found the broom he mentioned. Froakie returned to being visible, and Laram got to work. He was no stranger to chores. He had spent ten years in an orphanage where the children did everything. It was simple, honest work and Laram didn't mind doing it. They needed money, and he was willing to put in the effort to get it. As he swept, he picked up random objects off the ground and placed them on the shelves. After a few times of doing this, Froakie began to do the same. Touched that his brand new partner was already willing to help him, Laram had a thought."You know, you haven't received a name yet. Would you like one?"Froakie stopped for a moment, and pondered the question. It only took him about five seconds to shake his head yes."Okay then. Let me think...You're kind of like a ninja the way you disappear when you want to. How about Shadow?"This pleased the frog, and he hopped excitedly before realizing what he was doing. He stopped immediately and nodded his head in agreement. Laram chuckled at the display."Not to keen on showing your emotions huh? That's fine if you want to be that way. I hope that I can prove to be someone you can be yourself around. Until then, I'll accept you as you want to be. Thank you for agreeing to come with me...Shadow."With their kodak moment successfully achieved. Laram and Shadow got back to work cleaning up the store.

"Phew! I'm glad that's over with."Laram placed the broom back in its' corner and leaned against the wall. It had taken him and Shadow about an hour to get the place cleaned up. It looked a lot better than it did when he first walked in there; but the shelves were still pretty empty. Surprisingly, no one had come in to shop for that entire time. This troubled Laram, but he put it at the back of his mind. He needed to wake the shopkeeper and inform him that his place was clean. He nudged the man, and he jumped awake."Wha, huh?"The man looked around the shop confused, and after a few seconds the wheels in his head started turning again. He took another look at his shop, this time with a more sober look in his eye; then he checked his wall clock."Eh, it could be better, but I won't complain. That was pretty quick. It's so nice to have that much youth. Back when I was your age, I could run this shop blindfolded. Bah, but you don't want to listen to an old man's memories."
Even though it was true, Laram wasn't going to be the one to say it. The old man rubbed the back of his neck and happened to glance in Shadow's direction."Huh, where'd you come from?"The old man reached to pick up the Froakie, but he jumped back and darted out of the way. He ran behind a shelf, and Laram caught a glimpse of his stomach turning invisible before nothing was left.He sure doesn't like to be seen if he can avoid it.The old man cocked an eyebrow before shrugging it off."He's my Pokémon. He was helping me clean the store." "It doesn't matter to me how the work gets done, as long as it gets done. Now, I need you to fill up the shelves. I have more merchandise in the back. I just can't lift it, my back won't let me."The old man rubbed his back, and Laram had to stop himself from rubbing his out of sympathy."That's fine. I can handle it. Luckily there's still some stuff left on the shelves. I can figure out where everything goes."The old man grunted, and looked out the window for a brief moment before addressing Laram again.
"I have to take care of some business. While I'm out, just worry about restocking the shelves. If a customer comes in, use this chart for prices. There should be enough money in the register for change. I won't be gone for more than a couple of hours. You should have enough to keep you busy until then."With that, he was gone. Laram stared at the door for a second, realizing that that was the second time in the span of a couple of hours that someone older than him pushed him into a situation. Shadow materialized next to him and cocked his head questioningly."Don't worry about it. I'm just contemplating something. In any case, let's get back to work."Laram retrieved his first box and cut open the top with his knife. Froakie noticed this, and hopped up onto another one. A small, white light appeared in his hand, and formed the shape of Laram's knife. This surprised him and he almost dropped the box he was carrying. The frog dragged what Laram assumed was the edge along the top and opened the second box."I should really figure out what you can do. I mean, I know what Zeus is capable of. But I've known him for years. How do I figure your capabilities out?"The Froakie hopped to Laram's pack and opened the top. After a second or two of fumbling around, retrieved the Pokédex and placed it in the trainer's hands.
"This?"Laram turned the device in his hands and Shadow nodded. Laram had heard of these devices before, but never owned one before. He discovered a button with the word "scan" on it and pressed it. The device hummed for a few seconds before displaying a picture of a Froakie."Froakie, the bubble frog Pokémon. It secretes flexible bubbles from its chest and back. The bubbles reduce the damage it would otherwise take when attacked."After the initial declaration, the image of Froakie was replaced by what looked like the exact information Laram was looking for."This is incredibly useful. I'll have to remember to scan Zeus when we're done here."Laram skimmed through the information one more time before replacing the device back into his pack. With his new knowledge gained, Laram began the work of replacing the empty spaces with merchandise. It went slower than the cleaning, but after a two hours, Laram and Shadow were pretty much finished. In that time, two customers came by and bought some cheap items. As Laram opened the last box of items, the old shopkeeper returned. After a quick glance around his store, he walked to the register and counted what was in it.
"Well, you didn't steal from me, and you did a good job with the store. I can manage the rest, you're free to go. Here's your payment for today's work. Thank you for helping me out."The man handed the money over to Laram, which he thankfully received. He said his goodbyes, and walked back outside. With a little bit of money in his pocket, he felt a little better about his standing. Although, it was getting late, and they needed a place to spend the night. After asking a passerby, the trainer was pointed in the direction of the Pokécenter. *Exit*

Caroline slammed 4000 dollars onto the counter. "I am a girl in need." She said, much to the confusion of the store clerk. A moment's observation led her to a few things, the first being a Berry Pouch. She slid that across the table onto her pile of money as the clerk rambled about that simply not how business was conducted!
She was inclined to ignore the clerk.
Berries could be scavenged. Alola was a mostly unurbanized region where Berries grew everywhere so Caroline knew the basics. Orans heal health, Pechas cure poison. Leppas were useless. For now, 3 Poke Balls were all she needed and she was left in awe of the very expensive Wonder Launcher. "Sorry lass, you don't have enough dough or badges. How... ah you look like you're fresh out of the professor's."
"How can you tell?"
"It's right across the street dearie." The clerk pointed across, the local professor's door swinging wildly in the open as Caroline didn't bother closing it. She whined then made a mental note. Once she had enough money and badges she'd come back and-
"What's that?" She asked, derailing her current thought track.
"It's an Explorer's Kit you can use it to excavate places to get rare things like fossils... if you have enough badges."
"I'll take one! Oh. I don't like you." Caroline said plainly. "Is there anything special? Anything? Or can I just buy the equivalent of a plastic bag and leave?"
The clerk shrugged and pointed to the back. "Some trainer bred his Pokemon a few days ago and gave me some spare. Somethin' about Eye Vees? Whatever those are. Take your pick and get going, you're scaring off the other customers." He said before going back to fiddling with the cash register in his empty store. Caroline strolled into the back and looked at the bundle of eggs in a nest with the words 'Mystery Gift' cut in paper taped on the wall behind.
The one in the middle looked relatively important. She paid for the bag and took her remaining cash before leaving to bigger and better things.
Tori decided to make a pit-stop by the Poke-Mart in Blume Town. With Kita and Maji following him as they did, Tori walked inside, and after a grandiose entrance, looked around for the items he needed. Taking a look at the cashier, Tori walked around with a tiny shopping basket and pulled in a few items; two Potions (600$), two Pokeballs (400$), and a Berry Pouch (150$). After reaching the clerk, he placed the basket on the counter, and despite placing all the money (1150$), he did so in a hammy manner, with a pose, as the cashier sweated over it.
Kita turned on some Kenny Loggins, while Maji nuzzled into the purple scarf of her new master. As Tori finished, he carried the bag out of the store, with Maji and Kita on his shoulders.

Regal had to remind himself not to buy too much as he worked his way through the Pokémart. Now that he was ready to leave for King Town, a few provisions would be necessary for his journey. That being said, he had worked hard for his money, and didn't want to squander it all at once. Handling money was a foreign concept to him, but it was one that Regal took very seriously. He would only buy things that he absolutely needed.
"It would be smarter to buy a Berry Pouch than Antidotes." He reasoned as he tossed the small pouch into his shopping basket. "I remember seeing lots of Pecha Berries on Route 1 when I was training with Nova, so I'll just pick a few when we're passing through in case anyone gets poisoned."
With that decision made, Regal went through the isles and put a pair of Pokéballs and Potions into his basket as well. The balls would give him enough to round his team out further, and the Potions would keep everyone healthy on their journey to King Town. Satisfied with his purchases, the trainer made his way over to the clerk and handed over the money for his items. He still had over seven thousand Pokédollars left in his wallet, so overall Regal was quite happy with his shopping trip. With that finished, he made his way back to the Pokémon Center to wrap up for the day.
As Matthias approached the pokemart, he checked his wallet, and was a little dismayed with the result. Damn... not a lot in here. I should be able to pick up the basics, but it's going to leave me pretty tight. Maybe I can find some work in town or something... Just outside the familiar building however was the answer to his needs, a job board for trainers, with a list of available work in town. Right at the top was an ad, that was in the very place he was already going! As he stepped into the building, he looked around at the good available before heading up to the counter.
He spoke briefly with the shopkeeper and mentioned the ad requesting help for the shop. The man was eager for the extra hands and gave Matthias a rundown of what he needed done. It wasn't pretty work, but if he did a good job, he would have 1000 pokedollars in his pocket at the end of it. After setting his bag, and his jacket in the back, Matthias rolled up his sleeves and set to work.
The first few hours was pretty simple, he stocked shelves, organized product, and even took in a shipment or two. As he worked he set aside some of the things he wanted to purchase later behind the counter. Some potions and pokeballs of course, but also some cooking supplies, food for the journey, camping gear, and a bag to carry it all in.
The next four hours were spent getting that store in tip top shape. He cleaned the shelves, the floors, and even the ceiling fans. He watched as the shopkeeper at the counter tended to customers, and even learned how to work the till himself. It was a little weird to be on this side of the counter. As a child, he had often snuck into pokemarts like this to shoplift small items, and even the occasional potion, and now here he was learning how to work with people. In the early part of the afternoon, the shopkeeper asked if Matthias would mind watching the store for a moment so he could pop up the street for some tea. Matthias was glad to help out, and agreed to mind the shop while he was gone, moving to stay behind the counter and keep an eye on this. Little did he know he was going to have a more interesting time than her thought.

Bravery is not the absence of fear...
Matthias was tidying up behind the counter when he heard the little 'ding dong' that signaled a customer coming in. Looking up he waved at the child that had come in, offering a warm greeting and asking if the child needed any help. "N-no thanks... I-I'm just looking." Matthias however knew that look, he had worn it himself when he had first started learning how to steal to survive. ”Well you just give me a holler if you need anything ok?“ As the child wandered through the store, he kept looking back to see if Matthias was watching. Matthias was of course, but not in any way the child would notice. A life on the streets taught you to watch and listen to everything around you at all times, even if you seemed distracted. Humming to himself, Matthias continued to tidy things, wiping a shelf here, straightening up a display there, but all the while keeping an eye on the child. What's this kids deal? He's well dressed, clearly well fed he doesn't NEED to steal. As he thought about he noticed just how nervous this poor kid was and realized that he must other reasons to be doing this.
As the kid dipped around a corner, Matthias saw him reach out and sneak a candy bar into his pocket. Well, he TREID to sneak a candy bar into his pocket, but Matthias was far to quick for that, grabbing the kids wrist and holding the offending hand above the child's head. ”Let me just start by saying, I'm not mad, and I'm not gonna rat you out. “ He looked down at the now trembling child and let out a soft sigh, the poor kid looked like he was going to cry. ”Why don't you start by telling me your name, and why your trying to steal in the first place, you sure don't look like you're starving.“ The child shook his head before introducing himself, "I'm T-T-Tommy... I didn't want to do it... they made me, these other kids at school. They said if I didn't then they wouldn't let me in their club."
Matthias sighed as he stood there, but he was used to kids picking on other kids, and the childish desire to impress their so-called friends. ”Look kid, I'm gonna give you a little advice ok? When the other kids say you 'have' to do something you know is wrong to get into their group. That's probably not a group you wanna be hanging out with.“ He looked down at Tommy with a very stern, and yet tired look on his face, and Tommy could see that this wasn't just some older guy spouting rhetoric, Matthias was telling the honest truth. ”I grew up on the streets Tommy, that's how I knew what you were gonna do before you did it. You need to go tell these other kids you want no part of their group, and maybe let your parents or your teacher know what they're up to ok?“
Tommy nodded, and so Matthias let him go. Tommy ended up just paying for the candy bar, and left the store looking pensive as he ate it. The Shopkeeper came back shortly after and said that Matthias could stop for the day. Together they tallied up his pay for the day, and the items he wanted. Matthias still owed a fair bit, but he was happy to pay it, and left the store with a smile on his face. I hope that kid turns out all right, I'd hate to see him wind up like me. Slinging his new pack over his shoulder, and making sure his egg was safely tucked in a side pocket, Matthias decided to head for the beach. There was work out that way and is he was lucky, he might be able to find some Pokémon to add to his team. He felt certain he would at least be able to get some training in with Nikit and Froakie.

"I'm... such... a ditz..." Yukiko groaned as she struggled to catch her breath. The trainer had made it about halfway to the route leading outside of Blume Town before coming to the realization that she had no Berry Pouch or suitable containers to gather the ingredients for the job she had decided to do. Panicked, the trainer rushed back as quick as she could and was only now just arriving back to the Pokémart she had casually walked past earlier. Cursing her lack of preparedness, the trainer smoothed a few stray hairs from her head and stepped into the store.
Berry Pouches were pretty cheap, so Yukiko decided to buy two of them. According to her uncle, a common mistake new trainers made was spending too much money on medicine when Oran and Pecha Berries were commonplace among most routes for healing minor wounds and poisons. They also doubled as food supplies and, most importantly, were free for trainers to pick. It was definitely the cost savvy choice to make. Happy with her choice, Yukiko threw in a pair of Pokéballs and brought her items to the clerk to pay for them. Now that she had what she needed, the trainer began making her way back to Route 1 so she could finally complete her job. Hopefully she could actually get it done this time.
Asher pushed on the shop doors and held them open for his Bulbasaur and Shinx to follow him in. He was greeted by an old man wiping down the counter with a rag. "Welcome, welcome. Let me know if I can help you with anything. Just so you know, we're about to close for today." The boy nodded and began perusing the aisles to find what he was looking for. He noticed berry pouches and thought that they would be good to scavenge some food on the road. So he snagged two and put them in the basket he picked up while entering. He found a sturdy rope and added that to the basket as well, along with a potion. All great tools for anyone planning on camping in the wilderness with wild Pokemon. He noted other healing items, but remembered that various berries had the same affects as the pricier options, and berries were free. He needed to be sensible with his money. He didn't have too much left after his trip on the boat. I don't really have any food, and it's a bit too late to harvest enough berries for a proper meal. Hopefully there's something here. Even if it just tides us over until tomorrow.
Asher quickly scanned the remaining aisles and found some dried jerky and fruit leather for sale. It wasn't exactly filling, but it would suffice. He placed the food in his basket, enough for him and his three Pokemon. After finding everything he needed, he walked to the front so that he could be checked out. "Let's see here, potion, berry pouches, a rope and some food. Altogether that comes to nine hundred." The trainer counted out his money and handed it to the shopkeeper. After giving his thanks, he put the items in his backpack for easier transport. The sun was close to setting and the trainer needed to set up camp before it became too dark. He left the store, followed closely by his Pokemon and they all made their way to Route 1.

Mila's eyes narrowed in focus as she perused the various wares of the Pokémart. She'd already grabbed the berry pouch she'd originally come for, as well as an old fishing rod she'd seen on display. It was a bit shabby looking, but Mila was more concerned with function than aesthetic. Fishing would be a cheap way to fill her belly on the days she was lucky enough to get a catch, and there was always the chance of fishing up water type Pokémon for her team. All in all, it seemed like a practical purchase.
She looked over the grocery section out of habit, but Mila reasoned that it wouldn't be a very long trip to get to King Town, where she could enjoy both lunch and supper for free at the local Pokémon Center. It would make more sense to stock up on food there before making the longer trip out to her final destination of Nix City. Satisfied that she had all that she needed, Mila brought her purchases up to the counter and paid. With that out of the way, it was finally time to leave. It had been a short visit, but Blume Town had been a very sweet and cozy introduction to the region for Mila. Hopefully one day she'd visit again when she had more time to enjoy it.
