I love him as Hannibal, but which of the three movies he stared in is your favourite? He won and oscar for his portrayal in Silence of the Lambs.

Ok, If no one is going to reply I'm going to post a personal story.
Off the top, I can neither confirm nor deny that they guy was Anthony Hopkins but man he looked just like him...just saying...like identical! But I don't think it was actually him.
Ok, story time.
So when I was in my first year of university, I had my first Hannibal re-read in a long time. I was working at a community theatre at the time and once we were in costume and ready to work, most of my coworkers would all congregate downstairs and smoke. I'm not a smoker and I don't like being around it, so I would go and hide in a dark stairwell where there was like two solo pot lights and I'd read. People thought I was crazy because the general consensus was that the building was haunted, but I wasn't scared, so I would go, sit alone and read horror books in a haunted theatre because...sounds fun right?
Well this one day, while I was reading Hannibal, my boss found me, asked me about the book, blah, blah, blah. He was a super cool guy, and I miss him dearly. Anyway, for this dinner theatre that we were running, we would get large groups of people and from there we would give them names because it was a fun thing to do and we'd sing and dance - and generally just have a really fun time. It was the best job in the world.
So one night, we were all having a blast and I'd gotten all my people done so i went back to help with the dinner service to the rest of the theatre and this other actress says to me "Would you mind bringing Hannibal his chicken?" and I looked at her funny. She smirked. I said something along the lines of "he's not going to enjoy your chicken," but I took it anyway and I headed for the table. Well, no word of a lie, there at the table was a man who looked so strikingly like Anthony Hopkins I nearly died. I mean It wasn't hard to know who Hannibal was. He was staring right at me, and all he says is "well hello there." and I was done. It freaked me right out. I rushed out of the room, to much laughter from the rest of the cast, and I wouldn't go back to that table.
But the end of the night, as things were calming down and I was cleaning up my station, my boss came back to me. He was like "so you gonna continue reading those books in my theatre?" and I was like, "yeah why not? They are super good books." and just as I said it the same man walked around the corner. This time he wasn't playing up to the Hannibal thing. Told us he liked the show and that our performances were great and he left. But I will never forget Hannibal and the dinner theatre. It was insane.

"That story is awesome... I wish I had such a story. Closest I have is a friend of mine met Anthony Hopkins, but I was not there so the point in moot.
Anyway, I have to say I enjoyed him in 'Hannibal' just a bit more. That was the first movie I saw him in when I was younger, and I must have watched that movie fifty times in the course of a month. I know it's not the best of the series in some peoples eyes, but it's the one that got me into the fandom in the first place, so I have to give it props."

I think the original is the best. Silence of the Lambs. He only had about 15mins of screen time, but it was good quality. I know Buffalo Bill was supposed to be the villain of the film, but Hannibal stole the show. Obviously, or we would all be watching a show called Buffalo Bill.

Silence of the Lambs came out two years after I was born, so i was really really young then, but i remember a few years later seeing it on TV and being terrified until my mom caught me and turned the TV off cause i was 'too young at the time' a couple years later i saw it again, and started reading the books in high school and writing papers on them for independent studies and I'm pretty sure it's because if Anthony and his portrayal.

A Redhead Angel I think the original is the best. Silence of the Lambs. He only had about 15mins of screen time, but it was good quality. I know Buffalo Bill was supposed to be the villain of the film, but Hannibal stole the show. Obviously, or we would all be watching a show called Buffalo Bill. It's so true. Hannibal was always meant to be the main character, i think, but Buffalo Bill was supposed to steal the show and the roles were completely reversed even with Anthony's very little screen time.

Random Fact: Did you know that Anthony Hopkins is actually a Concert Pianist and all the Piano playing in the beginning of the Hannibal movie is actually and truly Anthony playing an original composition? True story! He even left acting for a while to pursue playing piano and composing. He came back to acting - obviously.

It totally made me love Anthony twice as much. All I want is for him to play the piano so I can listen and imagine him as Hannibal. It would be beautiful and terrifying all at the same time.

I think from the portrayals of Hannibal in all the films and tv shows Anthony Hopkins is the best out of them all, even though I love Mad's in the new Hannibal tv series he still can't out shine Anthony's portrayal of Hannibal, I think when anyone thinks of Hannibal they think of Anthony playing him because really he was brilliant and I don't think anyone could do a better performance of Hannibal than him

He certainly did set the bar very high for anyone else that might ever come along and play hannibal. that says all - one simply cant replace the original charm of that lovely psycho - its like replacing the now "used to be wolverine" hugh jackman with some stupid teen charming dude just to catch more audience.. it woudl kill the figure in any movie later made on the same canon; random ranting.. while I liked hugh as logan, I think original comic logan actualy was older, jack nicholson could have been the better choice character wise for that.. and in that context, original lecter was old tough and mean, while the new series one isnt (the new series lecter looks kinda like putin which is kinda weird, in a way he lacks the body "weight and muscle" of hopkins version wink

Ratgod He certainly did set the bar very high for anyone else that might ever come along and play hannibal. that says all - one simply cant replace the original charm of that lovely psycho - its like replacing the now "used to be wolverine" hugh jackman with some stupid teen charming dude just to catch more audience.. it woudl kill the figure in any movie later made on the same canon; random ranting.. while I liked hugh as logan, I think original comic logan actualy was older, jack nicholson could have been the better choice character wise for that.. and in that context, original lecter was old tough and mean, while the new series one isnt (the new series lecter looks kinda like putin which is kinda weird, in a way he lacks the body "weight and muscle" of hopkins version wink As much as I would have loved to seen Anthony play Hannibal in the show, he is getting quite old now and to have him play a younger version of himself might not have worked as well as it did when he went back and played Hannibal in Red Dragon. He also retired from acting for a little while, after Red Dragon, so I'm going to assume that he's very picky about the roles he's playing these days. That being said, I love him. I'd love to see him pop up in Hannibal but I think Mads is going a great job and i think we're going to see personality changes once he finds out someone survived his attack and that he is literally on the run because people are after him. Then again, it's a personality trait for Hannibal not to get overly stimulated by anything. In a way, the image of Hannibal in the books and Hannibal in the movies, is really a combination of the written Hannibal and Anthony's Hannibal in the show. There is so much more character development in the show then there was in the movies and even in the book because Hannibal wasn't the true center in either. Anthony only had 15 minutes of screen time in Silence of the Lambs and he had to make that character memorable. Mads is now developing Hannibal in a way that could only be dreams about in the movies and consequently in the books as well.

My favorite would have to be Silence of the Lambs. It's a well made movie all around staying mostly true to the book. Also, there's this very iconic scene where you first meet Dr. Lector in the jail cell. I think that in a movie, when the villain has a GREAT entrance, it makes all the difference. AKA- the camera going to the character in this case.
(The only other movie that I can think of that has a great iconic entrance for the villain is the James Bond movie Skyfall biggrin )
