Restating the Title...✍
❝The current contest period is from January 22nd to February 28th. Winners will be announced on March 1st. ❞
In Burn, there's always some sort of contest going on. Usually, it involves tekteking, bumping or random-number generating in an almost religious fashion, or being the first to post on a specific page. Only rarely do we have contests that involve writing. I've decided to create an ongoing writer's contest for those who are looking for a prompt and the opportunity to earn 20k for their literary skills. Every month, there will be a new challenge and a new chance to earn 20k. So get ready to write!

I watched slowly and painfully as the heart monitor grew a straight line. No. This can’t be happening. I’m just now going to middle school, she can’t leave me! I slammed my hands on the bed frustrated. I cried and cried. For the next two years my wardrobe became dark hues and blues. I kept my feelings to myself and cried by myself. I became lonely. I shut my family and friends out. She would miss so much that a mother shouldn’t miss. It came time for eighth grade and I realized she’s not gone, she’s there, watching over us.

My submission:
The raw edge of my aching finger nail is infinitely more interesting in the face of your destroyed expression. The shuffling of your feet, the twicthing of your fingers as you try to decide how to move in the face of my rejection only makes me more resistant. I don't want to see your face and I don't want you to feed me lines about some idealistic future. If you start to spout about your broken heart, I'll only feel I must interject and we'll start all over.
So, let's just stop. Let's admit that there could be something better.

Had he known, he wouldn’t have let it happen. But it was too late, far too late, for him to even come close to doing anything about it. He was not the master of time, he could never reverse what has been done. Even as he sits in the darkened bedroom, the bed where they used to make love, he could only stare at the infinite abyss of red-wood flooring, the tears slipping from his eyes and down his cheeks. She was gone, the bullet through her cold heart. It was a shame he wasn’t the one who did it.

she's locked away in another gloom my tortured lullaby i hear the muffled screams from her room and the panic in her cry
she's hungry now for the dreaded call and her angel/demon phones she's pale and shaking and takes the fall only i can hear her groans
entangled up in his web of vow perfect for her; so wrong forever mocking the thread of now eternally his sad song
i'm twisting ghosts in the satin sheets of my crystal cave remembering shards of the broken life of my oncetime friend and i'll never sleep again i'll never sleep again

Real Life. The car ride was like any other, I could smell the wet pavement and saw the blur of headlights on the other side of the road. I notice my father starting to swerve. He is having a heat attack. before I can unbuckle my seat belt, we crash into a car on the other side of the road. everything goes black. i cant see. i cant hear. i cant feel. its not dream, just darkness. I wake up, seeing needles in my arm, i ask my mom where my father is. she tells me hes in heaven now.

I’m trying not to stare at him. Knit one, pearl two. But that’s difficult. I pause for a moment, hiding my gaze, but when I look up, I can see his jaw clench and unclench. Knit one, please talk to me, pearl two. He’s still chewing his cheeks; I know because I can’t stop staring at him. I can’t stop staring because of the way his jaw defines and loosens every time he does it. It’s as though he gets here early just so I can watch him and suffer quietly. Ever week. Knit one, I love you, pearl two.

I am a dragon, fierce, fire breathing, feared. Only the most strong will ever hurt me, but never mentally. Flying, floating up to the stars, almost in lip's reach to kiss them all goodnight. Being this massive yet potent reptile helps me to forget when the doctor medicates me and tells me how I should feel. I soar, far away from here. There is hardly any pain here when it is so empty. For my 10th birthday, I should really be 100, I am old and wise, sometimes gentle, but not young. It didn't have to be like this, breathing fire upon you. I love to be a dragon, but ever since I killed you, it's just not the same. I am ever so sorry for your death, but it's nice to see the villagers run from me.
