Welcome to the world of movies! As we all know, there's a big bunch of different people here in the AGA. We all have our own tastes and likes. So what I was thinking is that we could put up a place in here where you could rate movies and discuss about them. So here's what I want you to do. Before rating a movie, I want you to create a movie portfolio so to speak. Our movie preferences determine how we see and rate movies so there's no point in trying to say we all can be objective with the movies. I sure can't because I know there are certain movie genres that I usually don't even watch since I know I won't like the movies. I'll post a short Q&A in the movie portfolio post so fill that one up and I'll add it to the list so we can all see what sort of movies we prefer. I'll also add few things that I wish everyone to use in their ratings so we are all in the same page so to speak. This makes it easier to read and understand the ratings. Also I encourage people to talk and ask about movies. If you are wondering whether you should go and see something, you can check out in here and ask if anyone has seen it already and if it was any good. Now let's recap on the safety rules before venturing on:- There are no such thing as "right opinion". We all have our own tastes and might rate the movies differently. Discussion is welcomed, bashing is not. - When rating a movie, it is nice to add a link to for example IMDB etc. If you can find a trailer, that is even more great. Of course this is not a must but it's always nice to get bit more information about the movie. - The selection of what you can rate is free. You can rate documents, hollywood blockbusters, indie films, short films etc. Of course remember to follow the Gaia ToS. Happy movie moments!

Movie portfolios Here's the Q&A I want you to fill in before starting to rate the movies: My favourite films: The movies I didn't like: What is my favorite genre: What genre I never watch: Additional info:****************************************************** LilygwenMy favourite films: I like animated movies especially so there's Up, Over the Hedge and Finding Nemo. I also like Ghibli stuff so I think my absolute favorite movie is My Neighbor Totoro. Other movies I like are Iron Sky, Kill Bill, Matrix, Lord of the Rings saga and the Fifth Element. The movies I didn't like: Mostly stuff like American Pie -movies, romantic fluffy stuff like Marvel and Me or Finnish movies with one exception. What is my favorite genre: Like I said, I like animated movies but sci-fi and fantasy is most dominant genre in my dvd collection. What genre I never watch: Fluffy romance stuff or idiotic american slapstick humor like "Dude where's my car" etc. Also, I don't like watching horror. Psychological horror/triller is ok but blood splatter is no no. Additional info: I have very broad taste in movies and there are basically just few things that I don't like to watch. I have over hundred DVDs at my home and I like to watch some of the good movies over and over again. Some might roll their eyes firstly to the dvds and secondly to the fact that I have physical copy of the movie, but I like to buy the stuff I like and store them neatly.GuinAoiichiMy favourite films: The Crow, Summer Wars, 300, Hot Fuzz,Chocolate, Ong bak, Jet Li's " Fearless ", Hana, Akira Kurosawa's " THe Seven Samurai " Cowboy Bebop movie, Serenity, Pretty woman, Die Hard, Safety Not Guaranteed...so many more... I would have to go through boxes of dvds.... The movies I didn't like: saw, the hills have eyes, Borat.... What is my favorite genre: Sci fi, comedy, Anime What genre I never watch: gore , horror Additional info: Umm, can't think of what to write here at the moment....

Rated movies Let's see if I can make this work. I want to keep a list of movies that have been rated. This way you can see what's been rated and if you want to give your opinion on the movie. Here are few things I wish to see in the ratings:- Use a scoring from 0 to 10 where the 10 is the best score you can get. - Write a short introduction to the film you are about to rate so we can understand what it is about - If you can find add links to trailers or the movies home page so people who gets interested about it can find more information about it. Movies:Hunger Games007 James Bond - SkyfallX-Men: Days of the Future PastCaptain America: The Winter Soldier

gaia_nitemareleft Okay, I'll go first. The Hunger GamesScore: 4/10 The plot: Hunger Games sets in the future where earth has been almost destroyed by wars and pollution. The remaining population are divided into 12 districts and to the Capitol where everything is run. Every year each district needs to give one boy and one girl to cruel game to the death called The Hunger Games. The movie bases on a book series with the same name. What I thought about it: I've read the books and I was concerned that if I could enjoy the movie. After few minutes I realized that I can't. I know people have praised the movie but I saw it as short highlights of the books without the reason and the emotions connecting the different scenes together. The book is so much more intense and dark but the movie really didn't catch even the glimpse of it. Also, what was with the shaky cameras on the start of the movie? It also made me feel nauseous. There were few things I liked about the movie. Firstly I think the cast on Katniss was spot on. Jennifer Lawrence has the kind of look that fits for the role. Secondly I think they managed to make good futuristic yet desperately decayed look for the sets. But when the movie ended I thought they should of shortened it out and focused more on creating the desperate feeling of having to fight for your life. Maybe if I watch the movie after some time, I could enjoy it, but right now I didn't see it a point of my time. It's going to be interesting to see how they are going to make the next books where the emotions and Katnisses struggles within her own head takes a larger role on creating the story. IMDB - Hunger Games gaia_angelright

gaia_nitemareleft Okay, I'll go second too. whee James Bond - Skyfall Score: 7/10 The plot: This time James Bond must save the MI6 from destruction as a lunatic ex agent goes on a vendetta spree for the M and the MI6. What I thought about it: I had high expectations for this movie since it has been praised so much. My expectations weren't met and in the end of the film I felt that it was missing something. Of course you can't really expect James Bond -brand to have highly intelligent plot and characters but still I think it was "too safe". I think they could of delved more into the Bonds past and give more meaning to the character. Seeing the new Q and Moneypenny was nice and I think the characters are spot on. I think the interaction between Moneypenny and Bond was almost there in sense of "logical plot" but at times it was more of an "accessory woman" than a real character. Overall the movie was entertaining but I think they aimed too much for a safe blockbuster and they really didn't utilize all of the potential that was there with the characters. The movie requires some knowledge of the "Bond world" an the characters to get all of the little details that are given during the story. IMDB Skyfall gaia_angelright

The movie of the month is bit outdated since this thread have been pretty quiet lately... or for a last year or so. sweatdrop That movie you suggested looks really interesting! I don't recognize it and it haven't aired in theaters around here but I think I might be able to find it from a video rental store. I'm definitely putting it into my list of "what to watch next". gaia_angelright

Or do you think it should be separate thread so everyone could update the list on their own behalf? gaia_angelright

On the one hand everyone could update it at their leisure, but there would different posts for each person. And if you add one, how often would it be updated? IDK... I think what ever is more convienient. no?

I think what ever is more convienient. no? gaia_nitemareleft Well, I'm here usually once a week at minimum so if we add the list here, then it would be kept pretty updated if people just posts them. smile I think I'll add the list here, I have space reserved and then if the list really grows we can see if it's moved to separate thread. For me I think the trouble is to list only the main movies I want to see... there's so many things I would like to watch if I just would have the time and could get my hands on those movies. whee gaia_angelright
