The Hoshigaki Compond is located in a somewhat secluded area about a mile east of the Housing District. Its layout is somewhat erratic, houses are built in a non organized fashion that makes it difficult for outsiders to find their way in this district. A long river flows through the compound called the Red River, allowing the inhabitants easy access to to water without having to go to public wells to mingle with people of the housing districts or other compounds.

In the middle of the compound rises a tall building, the Hoshigaki Shrine. The building is used as a meeting place for the council or warlords. In its highest room the legendary blade Samehada is kept when not in the possession of a champion and heavily guarded. All coming of age ceremonies in which the Samehadamakus are plucked from the blade take place in this building,

Trying his best not to look intimidated or overwhelmed, Hiru entred the council chamber behind Shizoni. Around the large semi-circular table that occupied the largest part of the room were sitting all four of the Hoshigaki warlords. Only very seldomly did they find necessary to gather in this chamber which was, in fact, very rarely occupied.

In the center of the room, against its stand, rested the legendary blade. Hiru's heart started beating heavily as this confirmed his Hiru suspicions. The fact that it was out of its heavily guarded shrine was extremely unusual, and also was the fact that the blade had been carefully wrapped, something completely unnecessary when it is safely stored.

One of the elders, showing very little interest in formalities as was usually the case with the Hoshigaki, sat sunken deeply into his chair. His eyes, however, showed severity. Once everyone were inside he leaned forward on the table and finally broke the unnerving silence that up to this point filled the large room.

"Kneel, pup.", simply ordered the elder.

He turned to Shizoni and asked, "As he been briefed on the reason for his presence here?".

"He figured it out for himself Hoshigaki-sama, with a few clues." Shizoni took one of the adviser seats, beside the elder who was talking to him. He didn't have a right to sit in the Hoshigaki elder thrones, even if he was one of the Seven Legendary Swordsman.
"Though, I give my apologies, I believe he doesn't quite know the full details. I guess I let my own personal love for shocking people get the best of me." A big sharp toothed grin appeared across his face, hoping to lighten the mood.
"I will tell him how this will go now, if it is alright with the Elders."

The councilman let out an irritated sigh as he learned this meeting would drag on longer than he had hoped. "Very well, Swordsman, explain to this runt the council's decision.", he told Shizoni, sinking back into his chair.

"However, may it be noted and expressed to our new "champion" my personal dissidence to this whole affair, even though it seems I was the only one amongst my most honorable peers to formulate this objection.", he added with sarcasm and condescension, only looking at Hiru for a second.

"Just get on with it."

"Yes." Shizoni got back up and walked over to the kneeling 'runt' as he was so called. He looked briefly around the chamber, and then looked at the young Hoshigaki.
"Hiru of the Hoshigaki clan, the council have seen fit by majority vote, that you will be the taker of the great Samehada." He paused to let it sink in, he already overwhelmed the kid enough.
"This sword is alive, it knows your feelings. When you take this sword, you must have utter confidence and show you are strong in body and mind. You can not and will not take that sword without hesitation. There is no second chances if you stumble." Shizoni then whispered. "It will probably eat you." He then coughed for attention.
"Do you understand this Hiru Hoshigaki?"

It was now official, he would never have believed it, his own father lodging a formal objection to his nomination, but he had been chosen to become the next Hoshigaki representative in the Swordsmen of the Mist. "Council, Swordsman, I understand and... accept this great honor. I shall not dissapoint you.", he loudly spoke with a bit of a nervous studder.

Gathering his spirits, Hiru stood up and approached the stand where the blade was standing upside down. Slowly, his hand reached for the handle and, as soon as contact was made, he felt a surge throughout his entire body, like a void of chakra had just formed at the tip of the great sword sucking away his energy. As it fed for the first time so directly in such a long time, the living weapon rumbled for a bit and made a few strange noises as it got reacquainted with the taste of first hand chakra. After about ten seconds of feeding, suddenly came one moment of silence. Thinking that was it, Hiru pulled it upwards to see how wielding such an impressive weapon felt.

However, as soon as it moved, Samehada's mouth appeared from the tip of its blade and bent on itself to swiftly bite on Hiru's Samehadamaku. Before anyone could react, with a loud slurp, the blade sucked the staff into itself. A strange glow then began to emanate from the weapon, which seemed to be struggling a bit with its latest meal. However, after a few seconds, it settled down once more. Finally, Samehada turned its mouth to Hiru and stretched its handle and wrapped it around his arm, letting what sounded like a discrete purr be heard.

After this strange display the blade apparently reverted back to its passive form and Hiru secured it on his back. It seemed the two had connected in some way and were now in sync.

User Image

"I think we'll get along just fine!", said the shark boy with a huge grin on his face. Switching back to a more solemn look once he remembered where he was, Hiru made a final adress to the Council: "I thank you all for this great honor, I will start honing my skills with this weapon right away." Once he was done, Hiru bowed and walked away, impatient to get further acquainted with his new companion.

"You had your doubts Hoshigaki-sama. But look, your son and Samehada are now one. I will make sure he trains hard." Shizoni then left the shrine, with the shocked council left in awe of the Hiru Hoshigaki.

8+34=42 Success
Masaraku arrived back at the compound and went to the river. It was time to expand her arsenal with another jutsu. Water prison was useful, and the technique seemed basic enough to learn. She read the scroll and it said to form her chakra into a ball in front of her hand in order to contain the water. She held her hand in front of her and made an orb of chakra.

9+34=43 Success
She maintained the orb and began putting her hand into the now warm waters of the Hoshigaki clan's compound. Her warmed spot had drifted away and the cold returned, the unexpected rush caused her chakra to curl back as she fed it into the water. When she pulled her hand back she was holding an orb of water in her hand. Now she actually knew what she had to do.

20+34=54 x2 Successes
Masaraku tried axpanding the orb now. It was currently about the size of a tennis ball. She dipped her hand into the water and expanded the ball of chakra. It was now the size of a melon as she took her hand back out and stared in awe at her own mastery of chakra control. She smiled and dipped her hand back into the water, eager to make it even bigger, when it came back out it was nearly a foot and a half wide. She was now well on her way to getting it big enough to at least fit something inside of it.

2+34=36 Success
Masaraku dipped her hand in again, this time it came out nearly 2 feet in width, but it was oblong and not round. She still marveled at its awesomeness and began to imagine all of the things that she could do with it when the time came to use it. If anything she could trap Batsu inside it when he got mouthy like he did before.

7+34=41 Success
She dipped her hand in again and tried to even out the oblong water prison. With great success. She smiled at her success again and adored the 2ft diameter ball of water surrounding her hand. She poked a hole in the bottom and watched the water stream out of the bottom slowly and peacfully. It was grand.

6+34=40 Success
Masa reached into the water again, starting from scratch and pulling out a 3ft orb as her chakra balled up and expanded through the water. She marveled at it as it was now large enough to capture animals in. She debated catching some cats with it, but opted not to. She dropped it again into the stream and stood up to stretch.

1+34=35 FAIL
She reached her hand into the water and focused her chakra into it. The water warmed, as if somebody had pissed in it, but when she removed her hand she saw nothing but dripping water. Her chakra must have superheated on its way out, and thus no orb, but a nice layer of steam that was making its way out of the compound.

1+34=35 FAIL
That was embarrassing ... Masaraku reached into the water with both hands, figuring 4ft and above may require extra hands, she leaned forward and the water exploded in her face, scaring her and causing her to fall into the Hoshigaki compound's stream. She quickly swam down to a point she could get out at and did such, not wanting to be caught in the stream.

15+34=59 Success
Masa tried again, she plunged her hand in and brought up the three foot diameter ball again, waving it around and tossing it behind her. She threw it on the ground to cover up her splash marks. She was not about to be caught in that kind of embarrassment. She looked around to make sure nobody was around, and once she was clear she knelt down for another attempt.

16+34=60 Success
Masaraku reached her hand into the water again and focused her chakra. It balled up, encasing the water before she slowly began to lift it. Five feet wide this time, easily large enough to house a classmate. She pictured putting Batsu inside the water prison and smirked. Maybe that would put him in his place.

12+34=46 SUCCESS
Masaraku Dipped her hand into the water once more. This was the final test for stage one. She focused her chakra into a ball and expanded it, the water poured into her chakra ball as it grew until finally she began to pull it from the water. It nearly took up the entire stream, but there it was, a ball of water as big as she was. Now came the next step.

--------------------------------Part 2---------------------------------
18+34=52
Masa moved her water orb over to a tree and caught a falling leaf in it, the leaf slowed and eventually stopped moving inside the water as she reenforced her chakra into it. She smiled and sent it back upward, before letting it drop again and fall out. She looked around for her next target. A fallen fruit ay not to far away.

6+34=40
Masa approached the fruit, a peach or an apple, it was to rotten to tell, she lowered the water onto the mushed fruit and cleaned it right off the stone walkway. It sloshed around for a bit until Masa fired it out again and at the grass where it belonged. She looked around again, there was a ball lying in the grass.

10+34=44
Masa moved again and lowered the orb on the softball, picking it up and floating it upwards into her water prison jutsu. She began to scope out her next target, walking around the ground with the suspended orb, she saw a cat. It was small, but much bigger than the softball. She dropped the softbal and approached the cat, holding the orb above her head.

8+34=42
"Here kitty kitty." Masaraku approached her next victim gently. Crouching down and saying, "Chk chk chk come here little guy." The cat crawled towards her and she slammed the orb onto it, picking it up a few feet and making sure that it didn't fall out before gently lowering the orb and dropping the cat. She hated cats anyways.

To be resumed Later ...

4+30=34 Success!
Masaraku trapped the cat again, but this time it swam out on its own. That was the next step of the process. She watched as it ran away, saddened that her plaything was gone now. She would have to leave the compound to find better targets. "Hrrrrrrm." She began to leave, intent on finding out what else it could hold.

Masaraku returned to the compound after some time and began training again. With only a short while left before the chunin exams, every moment counted. She crouched down and placed her hands into the red river, bringing out an orb of water and leaving it in the river, catching the various debris that floated down the stream and catching them in her water prison.

14+30=44 Success!
Masa walked upstream with her water prison, looking down as she picked up more and more debris, but as she looked at the water prison she noticed that the water did not stop the debris, it only slowed it down. She needed to up the difficulty level a bit ... She looked up and saw some stray cats. It seemed that fate was now on her side.

13+30=43 SUCCESS
Masa lifted the debris from the Red River and dropped the water prison's contents onto the stone tiles. Then she began to approach the back of the house where she saw the stray cats. She snuck up on one and caught it in a water prison, but the mangy thing managed to swim right out. She would need to reinforce the walls of the prison with extra chakra in order to hold the cat in.

PART 3: Here Kitty Kitty.
12+64=76 SUCCESS
Masaraku lunged forward and caught the cat again, reinforcing the walls of the prison with her chakra and watching as the cat struggled and inevitably died inside the prison. She released it and looked at the creature. It couldn't breath under water as she could. It was only a stray though, so no need t feel guilty. Right?

13+64=77 SUCCESS
Masaraku determined that guilt was for chumps. She ran forward and grabbed another kitten in her orb and began to drown it, letting it out as it began to kick for life. She looked around, this was going to get boring very quick, and she would need a bigger target to use the jutsu on something human sized before she could consider it complete.

1+64=65 SUCCESS
Masa went towards the cats, noticing a rather large one hopping down from its perch. She slammed the water prison into it and held it there as she looked at it. Why were these things hanging out so close to the compound? It was dangerous. She dropped the fat cat with a ka-plunk onto the ground. It began to get up again, catching its breath.

17+64=81 SUCCESS
Masaraku smiled as she looked upon the pitiful thing. Catching it again within her water prison. "Your a big ol' tub of lard aren't you?" She used her chakra to swirl it around in the prison. She dropped it downwards again and said, "Run off you! Scat." The obese cat ran off the best that it could manage.

[10+64=74] Success!
Masaraku looked around the compound for something a little larger than the fat cat she had been using. She traveled around the compound, looking for a larger target and eventually found a stray dog. She watched as the mangy mutt knocked over a trash can, and that was enough justification for her. She reformed the water prison and caught the dog in it.

[18+64=82] Success!
Masaraku looked at the mangy mutt and lowered the prison, she absorbed some trash into it and watched as the dog tried to eat it. "You're sick." the dog began to struggle and she released it. "And if you follow me I'll drown you." She began to walk away, and the dog did indeed follow her. She turned around and pointed at the dog. "Thats it."

[15+64=79] Success!
As she placed her hand on her sword, a kid ran around the corner and exclaimed, "You found Minny!" Masa's reaction was to turn around catch the attacker in her water prison, but once she realized it was a kid, she dropped the jutsu. "Erm, sorry about that." The kid just looked at her like she was weird and ran over to his dog.

[3+64=67] Success!
"Were you giving him a bath or something?" The boy asked. Masa grinned and said, "Yeah, I figured it was a good opportunity to test my new jutsu, and he had been digging around in the trash." She picked up the dog in the bubble and picked out the trash, moving him and dropping him elsewhere as she deposited the trash in a pile.

[15+64=79] Success!
The boy said, "Thats so cool!" Masa saw opportunity. "Say kid, seeing as I found your dog and gave him a bath, do you think you could help me out?" He nodded and said, "Sure lady, what do you need?" Masaraku said, "Well that jutsu I used to clean your dog is supposed to keep people in it. I need somebody to try to swim out of it while I use it. Simple enough?" She held out the water prison and the kid walked into it. He began to float upwards and tried to swim out. But he hit the solid outer wall.

11+34+34=79 PASS
Masaraku let the boy go and said, "One more time for good measure?" He looked scared and enthused. She formed the jutsu again and he walked into it. Trying to do a few flips before banging against the walls of the prison. Masa released him and said, "Thanks. I think that I've got this one down." Then she went home to rest after what had been a long day.

Genjutsu Kai TRAINING
4+4=8 FAIL
Masa got home and grabbed a book off of her desk. Her tiny little bungalo in the Hoshigaki compound felt comforting after a long day and all she wanted to do was relax. She looked at the books cover, "Genjutsu Basics," and groaned. She sat it down and went off to the kitchen to work on making herself some dinner.

15+4=19 Success
Two bowls of macaroni and a steak later, Masa picked up the book again and began to read it. "Genjutsu attack the mind by sending chakra into the opponents nervous system. This is capable of causing hallucinations of all five senses, creating mental stress on the foe as their mind is thrown into madness."

11+4=15 Success
Masa continued reading. "Genjutsu users are capable of creating false environments via sight. These could cause the user to be able to hide in plain sight from the victim and attack when they least expect it. Genjutsu can also creating nightmares, which put the enemy on edge, in a stat of fear. These are the most common uses."

17+4=21 Success
Masaraku read on, "However, there are several other things genjutsu can do. Some ninja use their genjutsu to create sounds. These can be used to mislead the opponent and cause them to think that the user is elsewhere. Others choose to inflict what the victim perceives to be wounds, leaving them screaming in pain."

[13+4=17 SUCCESS!!!]
Masaraku continued reading on a bit more. "Even perceived body temperature can be altered with Genjutsu, because the brain and the nervous system control all of these functions. However, Genjutsu is not without its weaknesses." Masa began to devote her full attention to the next few sentences, knowing it was why she was reading this book altogether.

[18+4=22 SUCCESS!!!]
"Just as chakra can be sent to another person's nervous system to create a genjutsu, a victim can use their own chakra to block said connection and thus remove themselves from the effects." Masa nodded, knowing what she had to do when she got done with this bullshit. Chakra exercises, then bed, and chakra was her specialty.

[19+4=23 SUCCESS!!!]
Masaraku continued to read a little more, though this was starting to wear on her, you know, reading and all ... She looked at the words on the page, skimming over them for anything else of importance, taking a few mental notes on things, mostly rereading the section on how they work, as well as the one on how to break them.

[14+4=18 SUCCESS!!!]
Masaraku continued to read a little more, yawning as she did, tired from the long day. "As chakra flows throughout the body, so is the genjutsu carried through it, making it increasingly difficult to banish, but by severing this connection for even a moment, one can realize that they are in a genjutsu and begin trying to escape it."

[20+4=24 DOUBLE-SUCCESS!!!]
Masa nodded, noting to pay extra special close attention. "Once you have determined that you have been caught by a genjutsu, the next step is to use your chakra to block its flow and clean out your system. Once this has been accomplished, you will be free of the genjutsu's effect, to begin training to do this, simply ..." She put down the book and walked back to the kitchen. 'I already know how to do this.' She thought, 'I just didn't know that I could.' She went back and picked up the book, skimming over this section and seeing if she had assumed right. The last thing she wanted to do was ******** this up this late in the game.
