I have read all of the harry potter books, but it wasn't until this past year while listening to someone on youtube talk about why harry potter wasn't evil and thats when it hit me, HARRY POTTER IS A SECRET JESUS SERIES! It has ultimate good and ultimate evil and it also has someone make a great sacrifice, who later on rises from death. Weird or what? Whats your opinion on this view point?

Good versus Evil, self-sacrifice, and resurrection are themes that are present in stories from different time periods all around the world. I don't think Harry Potter has much to do with Jesus Christ other than some of the same themes may be present.

I notice the comparisions to the Christian myhtos back in book three. i don't think it's what Rowling had in mind though. I think it's that there's only so many possable plotlines and all that really changes is the windows dressing. When Star Wars was big I heard a Baptist minitser use it as the topic of a compaitive sermon. He even had people in costumes walk through the sanctuary while the sound system blared the theme music.
I honstly think she was going to kill Harry in the end but caved to fan service. The last bit of the last book just always had a doesn't quite fit right feel to me. But then I liked the orignal ending to Clerks, too. So one must consider the source.

That's very interesting but I've gotta agree with obscurus. I don't think JK meant to put any hidden meaning/religious lesson in the book and also, such themes are common to all kinds of stories.
However, in you saying that, however, it does make me want to be even more observant when reading to look for over-arching themes, besides just characterization and possible tropes (it also reminds me of some of my literature classes, but that's a another story wink )

I think it can't be denied that there are some themes in Harry Potter that are reminiscent of Christian imagery - but I don't think that necessary makes it a series with a Christian agenda. Because the biblical stories are some of the oldest recorded stories that are so incredibly accessible and well-known to the world, it is easy to draw parallels and connections to other stories - whether intentional or not.

I don't even know if there's any secret symbolism in Harry Potter...there may be some elements that can be construed as having a Christian meaning....but there's all sorts of symbolism in the Harry Potter books. I doubt very seriously it was written as a Christian allegory.
