Stable past and present
The stable began with Seven. Having been fostered with Devin along with ten other Mokai rescued from neglectful conditions, Seven formed a bond with Devin and eventually stayed behind while the others were rehomed.

The Owner
The stable is owned and managed by a taciturn young man (in his early twenties) by the name of Devin Oscar Donovan. Reserved and pensive, Devin has a tendency to express himself in as few words as possible, and always seems to prefer the company of Mokai (or any kind of animal, for that matter) to that of humans. Although he is flawlessly polite, it is at times almost painfully obvious that his politeness is utilized for the sake of masking a deeply rooted reluctance to spend time in crowds. From his upbringing, he has developed a strict work ethic, always striving to excel and be the best he can be at anything he deems worthy of his attention, and never resorting to taking the easy way out in any situation. He is tenacious almost to a fault, pursuing his goals with tacit determination that radiates subtle strength and resolve, and will push himself past any and all limits.
Devin is tall and athletic with tawny dark hair and piercing gray-blue eyes the shade of a summer storm. His well-muscled frame indicates a quiet dedication to personal fitness and health, as well as the rigor of his self-imposed daily routine. The half-wild gaze, at the same time both somewhat alarming and eerily reassuring, is reminiscent of that of a wild creature entrapped by the confines of a society in which it does not quite belong, and stands as an unyielding testament to the reckless days of his youth and the troubles of a life he has left behind.
Born in metropolitan Kingston, Devin was born to struggling parents who, despite living a largely penniless existence, were the most honest, hard-working, and happiest people Devin would ever have the pleasure of knowing and loving in his childhood. From them, he inherited his admirable work ethic and tenacity, learning to smile in the face of hardship and to laugh in times of utter desperation. When Devin was thirteen and his brother, Drew, sixteen, their parents lost their lives in a train accident that claimed the lives of over fifty others. The two brothers were sent to live with their estranged aunt and uncle, who took the two boys under their care unwillingly.
Although the aunt and uncle were rich and lived far more comfortably than the boys had ever before experienced, they were high-powered career adults, one dedicated to her position as chief of a renowned steam providing company and the other devoted to his post as a co-founder of a pricey modern vehicles factory. They left the boys chiefly in the hands of the maid, who did little more than clean the house and cook them food, and eventually the hardworking boys who had once been at the top of both of their classes in school became reckless and unmanageable, though in ways that differed completely. It mattered little to the aunt and uncle what their nephews were like, as long as they didn't disturb the utopian bubbles of their careers, in which the couple was completely submerged.
While Drew was drawn into a rather politic and dissident world, in which his focus remained largely on protesting the works of the local government, Devin was pulled toward the city's underworld, becoming embroiled in drugs and alcohol and other less-than-legitimate activities. Bar fights and street brawls became, more and more, a norm, and gradually, he lost sight of the work ethic his parents had worked so hard to ingrain into his very being, and he began to let go of the life of honest work and fulfillment he had been taught to live.
The summer of Devin's seventeenth birthday, Drew convinced him to make an unprecedented appearance at a protest. Unlike his brother, Devin had long since released any old ambitions and had adopted a general attitude of apathy for the world; his appearance was a rare display of support for the one person left in the world that he cared deeply for.
The protest, packed with aggressive, spirited protestors, soon became unmanageable and became a chaotic riot in which people were pushed and shoved indiscriminately. Separated from his brother, Drew was accidentally knocked to the ground and trampled to death by the unruly crowd.
The death incited a part of Devin that had slowly been extinguished, a wake-up call as he realized for the first time how short life really is and that he was wasting it on meaningless fights and highs that, more often than not, left him less satisfied than he had been before. Following Drew's death, Devin pulled his act together, completing his last year of high school (which he had been slated to give up on) and then working a chain of jobs to earn money while taking odd classes at the nearest community college.
When he had earned enough, he pooled his money into fulfilling his brother's lifetime dream by moving to Akoya in the hopes of starting up a stable.
