Ok, I like to debate this subject because it is very controversial, and I like to argue. But, sometimes I am pitted against, " Gay marraige/ adoption is detrimental to the kids becasue they need influences of the other gender too." any ideas on how to respond to this???

Detrimental to the kids cause they need influences from both genders??? There are many irresponsible and frankly stupid people who have kids, that are bad influences on their children. It doesn't matter if your a single parent, in a heterosexual or homosexual marriage. The child needs supportive and good influences. -end of rant-

I'm aware that this is a slightly different tack; that's why the thread hasn't been locked as a repeat. razz I simply suggested you read the content of those threads for ideas.

you dont need a mother to have a good female influence. i had aunts and the mother of my best friend to help me out with my girly problems and i turned out pretty ok.
if they wont let gays adopt for such a stupid reason then they may as well ban single parents for raising kids rolleyes that excuse really pisses me off since its pretty much saying my dad wasnt enough of a parent or some other bullshit, and im usually a very calm person

It's like the excuse 'Gay parents would raise their kids to be gay' [Btw, suuuuure. just like straight parents only raise straight kids. Oh wait...we're all product of straight parents...]
It's all foolishness. While I enjoy a good debate, myself, I find that these kidn of opinionated people tend to be closed to any kind of reason or logic, so I find debating or arguing with them in any way is usually just a waste of time.

I say let people be people. Personally, I don't see a difference. The people that are usually closed about it are overly religious conservative assholes who just want to complain about something all the time.

Actually, I'm sure there's plenty of studies floating around that basically heavily suggest otherwise. ( In response to the original post. )
