Ricky was wandering, playing and goofing around with Lee, her mate--her mate! Ricky still couldn't get over that--when she saw something interesting--and sparkly!
"Leefox, what's that!" Ricky gasped, moving away from her mate to head toward whatever it was that was glittering so prettily. "Look, c'mon!" Giggling, Ricky started at a run, excited to find whatever it was that was waiting for them--because of course it could only be waiting for them, right! Ooh, what if it was a pretty bracelet, or a tailring? Oh, but then who would get to use it, herself or Leefox...?
What a silly thought. They would share it, of course, whatever it was!

Leefox skittered over to the bush that Kikifox was looking in, to take a look herself. It had to be something really shiny and really interesting and really cool and the best thing ever, it had to be--"A BCR!"
Leefox poked at it gently with a paw. It still felt warm, which...well, that meant that the BCR was okay, didn't it? Even though it was out here all alone without any mommy or daddy or anyone to look after it, so..."We have to go on a quest to find its parents!"

Ricky peered down at it, poking it gently after Lee did; it was still warm...but how long had it been alone? Ricky's tail swished worriedly, her ears lowering slightly.
"But we have to take care of it first," Ricky pointed out. "We can't just leave it there, Leefox, it might...you know. Die!" Ricky whispered, like the tiny fox enclosed in its ring could hear her. "We hafta make sure it stays warm,"
Without waiting for an answer or an argument (not that Leefox would ever argue with her), Ricky carefully slipped it onto her paw and lay down, gently breathing some warm air on it.
"Please be okay, little guy..." She couldn't explain it if she was asked, but she did not want to give it back. She wanted to keep it, her and Lee. Maybe they could stay there and wait to see if the parents came back to look for it, but...but if they didn't, wouldn't she and Lee be better Mommies for it than the foxes who left them? Thea had raised her, so couldn't she raise this little BCR, too?
"Leeeeefox, I think we should keep it. Just 'till the parents come back," Ricky added hastily, peering up at her mate hopefully. "So it stays warm,"

"But what if its mommy or daddy lost it and is really worried about it and is looking for it right now? We gotta at least try to find them, Kikifox!" Leefox protested. She couldn't imagine having Pink Mommy and Blue Mommy losing her. But she was sure if the had somehow, then they would be really worried, and of course look all over for her, and...and she was thinking of the poor little BCR too, growing up without mommies or daddies. She couldn't imagine life without Pink Mommy or Blue Mommy. It was just too sad!
"But we definitely gotta take care of it. Just until its parents come back."

Ricky sighed, looking down at the fragile little thing on her paw. She already loved it...but Leefoxie was right, its parents were probably looking for it, all worried.
Then again...
"But Leefox...what if its parents aren't looking for it? What if they just left it here on purpose?" Ricky's face darkened--that was basically what had happened to her, Thea and Conny, after all; Ricky knew that sometimes, kids just weren't wanted.
But she couldn't say that out loud, not to Leefox, who was so happy. So she stood, carefully, and asked, "Which way should we look first?" After she said that, she lifted her paw and slipped the ring into her mouth, so her breath would keep it warm--she could still remember Thea telling her that's what she should do if she ever had kits, because it would get cold on her tail, unless he had a big fluffy tail like Conny did.

"Na-uh, its parents wouldn't leave it here on purpose. Something must've happened to them, so we've gotta find them so we can help them with...with...with whatever happened to them!"
She looked all over, but she couldn't really see anything that looked like the tracks of other foxes. Maybe its parents had left a while ago...?
But it was still warm, so that couldn't be right, so...
Leefox shook her head. She didn't know. But it didn't matter, 'cause she'd find the BCR's parents and then it would all be okay!
"That way!" she said, pointing in a random direction.

Ricky decided against bringing up her evidence to the contrary with her mate and just shook her head at herself, then smiled a little.
"That way it is," Ricky agreed around the BCR, keeping pace with her easily. "What do you think happened to them?" Ricky asked with genuine curiosity, glancing at her mate out of the corner of her eye. Of course if they could actually find the BCR's parents, they'd help them.
...Right?

"Something really really really really really baaaaad," Leefox said, nodding firmly. "'Cause nothing else could make mommies or daddies leave BCRs behind and so we gotta help them with the really really really bad thing when we find them!"
To Leefox, the logic was irrefutable. The rest of the world might just disagree, however...

Ricky nodded, though she wasn't sure she entirely agreed; unless something really really really really really bad had happened to her parents (which was a possibility, Ricky supposed absently) too, she just didn't have the proof to back it up.
Shaking her head lightly to clear it--but still being careful of the BCR in her mouth--Ricky quickened her pace slightly to catch up with Leefox, winding their tails together as they went.
Two hours later and still nothing. Not used to walking so much solidly and without playing, Ricky's legs were tired. When they reached what looked like a good place, Ricky sat down and looked petulantly at her mate.
"Leefoooox, I'm tiiireeeedddd," she whined, her ears drooping. She didn't want to say it, but Leefox had to be thinking the same thing: they weren't any closer to finding the BCR's parents.

"Na..uh...gotta keep going. Gotta...find parents..." Leefox was tired and she had never been this tired before in her whole entire life and just collapsing sounded like a really really really good idea and she kind of really wanted to, but...
But they had to find the BCR's parents! They had to! Had to had to had to! The poor BCR couldn't just grow up all alone without a mommy or daddy or anything, so they had to keep going!
But...
But if maybe she sat down for just a teeeeensy bit, that'd be okay.
Just a short little rest...
And in no time at all, Leefox had fallen asleep where she lay.

Ricky awoke slowly the next morning, BCR tucked between her chest and her paw, and wait what BCR?
Blinking quickly in surprise, she looked down at the little being in her paws...then remembered the day before, the poor little BCR all alone without any parents...
Yawning hugely, Ricky rested her head back down on her mate's side, too sleepy to be doing any Heavy Thinking just yet. All she knew was that this felt very...right. Leefox, her and a BCR. Very very right.

Leefox stretched out and may have accidentally poked Kikifox in the side, but she really wasn't awake at all yet and really wasn't sure if she had poked Kikifox or a tree or if maybe it was all part of the dream she was still sort-of dreaming as she slooooowly woke up.
She blinked when she opened her eyes, not recognizing anything around her except Kikifox and she couldn't remember where they were or why or anything and...!
"Kikifox," she muttered sleepily, "where're're" which she meant to be 'where are we' but that didn't come out quite right and it was too early for words anyway!

Kiki was in fact poked, but it was too early to really care anyway. She let out a big yawn and buried her face back against Leefox's fur, mumbling a muffled reply.
When Leefox still didn't say anything, she lifted her muzzle slightly and repeated, "Woods. We were lookin' for the BCR's Mama and Daddy and got sleepy so we slept and oh my gods what's happening!" Kikifox squealed--she heard the BCR cracking and had she killed it oh my god she was a horribly Mommy already what was going on!
Skidding upright and away from the little thing, Ricky could only stare in abject horror and sadness as the cracking increased--not that she noticed that, she was too busy freaking out.

Leefox stared at Kikifox for a minute because of the nonsense words Kikifox was saying until suddenly they weren't nonsense words anymore they were word-words and then she remembered all of yesterday and the BCR and the "WE HAVE TO FIND IT'S PARENTS!"
Except then Kikifox started freaking out and then that was making Leefox worry too because she couldn't see what there was to worry about and everything looked okay but...
"It's hatching! Kikifox it's hatching and we haven't found its mommy or daddy yet and what're we gonna do what're we gonna do with a kit?!"

Ricky relaxed a little--only a little--when Leefox said it was hatching. At least she hadn't crushed it! Before the thoughts of dead kits could distract her, Ricky took a deep breath and shook her head.
"We...uh...we take care of it 'till we find them?" Ricky asked, still feeling really twitchy because what were they going to do with a kit?! "Yea! Yea, we take care of it 'till we find it and ohhhh do kits need special food 'cause I don't know where to get special kit food and oh my gosh it's going to starve and it's going to be our fault and what if the parents hate us!"
