War is on the horizon, nations rise against each other.
The underworld has convinced the evil-hearted beings that if they won the war, they could do whatever.
It is up to the angelic beings to battle the underworld and its minions.
Will you save or break this world?

Nohari knew she wasn't welcome in Brownsburrow, but she was tired and in need of fresh supplies. So, gripping the reins to her pack mule, she headed up to the town's main gate. The two guards ordered her to halt, and one of them stepped forward.

"State your name and business here in Brownsburrow, please miss."

Nohari gritted her teeth. "My name is Nohari Wariken. I'm in need of a place to rest, and fresh supplies."

The guard look at his partner, and then back at Nohari. "Nohari Wariken? Find another town, miss. You ain't welcome here in Brownsburrow."

"There's nowhere else for miles." Nohari protested. "Please, let me enter just this last time. I'll be leaving tomorrow anyway."

"Sorry miss. Mayor says you ain't coming in, so you ain't coming in."

Nohari reached into her robe and pulled out a money purse from her belt. "I'll pay you to let me in."

"We don't take bribes, miss, and that's against the law here. I'll let you get away with that this time. But take your mule and go somewhere else. Keep persisting and we'll throw you in the jail."

Nohari bit her lip. There were several choice words she'd have given them, but she decided to rise above the image people had painted of her. So, reins of her mule still in hand, she turned and began heading away from Brownsburrow.

An elf sat on a tree branch a dozen feet above Brownsburrow's gate. She smiled slightly, and shook her head as Nohari attempted to gain access. She swung her legs a little as the necromancer rode away.

Crack! One of the guards looked up.

"Miss Zerranda. Get down from there. You aren't allowed in either after what happened last time." The elfmaiden slid down until she was hanging by her armpits. She let go and landed neatly on her feet. Silently, she nodded at the guard and spoke in a whisper soft voice.

"It's hard to forget when you remind me every time." With that she slowly walked forward a few feet, leaning in towards the young adult. "But you know you can't keep me out."

Zerranda turned on her heel, took a few quick steps, and called out a word: "Zelraa!" There was a flash of light and the elf climbed onto the mighty panther that had appeared.

"Farewell." She patted her black panther's flank. "Onward, Zelraa," she whispered with a smile. She stroked the muscular neck of the big feline and gripped the scruff of its neck as it took off westward. Piercing aqua blue eyes watched as she raced past Nohari, a smile on her lips.

((She's not riding the mule; it's her pack mule))

Nohari stared for a few moments as an elf-mounted panther rushed by. What was with the smile? Nohari sighed and continued leading her mule down the road. What was she going to do? There wasn't another town for miles, and she was in serious need of rest. Night was creeping up. The moon was all ready rising.

"Oh Felix," she said with a sigh, "what are we going to do?"

She continued walking, muttering about the judgments people had placed on her. It seemed her methods of disposing of the servants of darkness really had caused quite a bit of trouble. But--she got the job done. Wasn't that the most important thing? And she was a good, kind-hearted person.

"Maybe it's time to leave the kingdom. Go somewhere else. Maybe FrostHolme. It is cold up there, though. A little too cold for my liking."

((Whoopsie! Sorry.))

Zerra urged her panther forward, full speed. The elfmaiden glanced up to see a strange dark cloud envelope the sun. She halted the panther and slid off her back. Zerra patted the now growling feline and drew one of her dirks. Swirls of shadows seeped out from the ground, fog obscuring the elf's vision.

She drew her second dirk and waited, a grimace on her face. There was a loud swoosh as dark creatures pushed their way out of the writhing mass of darkness. Zelraa stepped forward protectively. There way no way around the mass. No way for an angelic loner to step through. It was a wall of complete and utter darkness.

Nohari hadn't gone too much further when she noticed something strange. The hairs on her body stood up as chills ran down her spine. Monsters from the underworld were nearby. Within moments, Felix had started getting quite restless. Nohari brought him to a stop.

"You sense 'em too, don't ya?" She said, trying to soothe him by caressing his muzzle.

A thick black fog began to creep toward her from some distance off, and as she eyed the panther tracks in the dirt road she couldn't help but wonder if the elf was the cause of it all--or if she was in trouble.

"All right, Felix. I'm gonna tie you up around here." She said, looking around for a fallen tree or heavy log. It didn't take her too long, and she made sure to tie him tightly to the timber.

"You know what to do if anyone tries to get ya."

The mule made a donkey-like sound in acknowledgment, and Nohari smiled. "That's my boy."

Then she hurried down the road and into the darkness, reaching into her robe and removing her sword from its sheath. She could just barely make out the elf ahead, battling for her life against the minions of darkness. But Nohari had no more taken another step forward when she became surrounded as well.

"Well, it seems she'll have to hold her own for a few moments."

Nohari turned and made a slash at one of the minions.

Zerranda blinked as Zelraa suddenly disappeared from sight. It was always like this. The underworld believed that it caught her off guard if it enveloped her trusted companion. A sound caused her to swiftly kick out backwards, catching whatever was behind her on the head.

"Dwegar." She hissed at the shadowy being, silently circling it.

"Zerra." it replied coldly. "The underworld is not pleased with your choice. He wants you for your talents." It lashed out at the elfmaiden.

"Tell him, whoever he is, that he can dream on. I follow no evil." She let the whip of darkness wrap itself around her wrist. She smiled slightly and yanked hard. "Zelraa! Calumnai, de calumnai!" she ordered. There was a flash of light as the panther cast a light spell, the only spell she knew. Dwegar hissed as the light revealed him to be a hideous dwarf-like being with black skin and no hair. Suddenly, he grinned, showing a forked snake's tongue. Zerra recoiled as the underworld minion let go of the whip and disappeared.

"I will let him know, elf. But the light will fall... Once he has hold of you and your friends."

Zerra frowned as the darkness began to dissipate. Zelraa appeared, licking her lips. Zerra gave her a questioning look as the great cat purred, a throaty purr almost like a growl. Zerra eyed the whip in her hand. It was braided leather, black and red intertwined. The handle was wrapped with a midnight blue fabric. She frowned as she ruffled the cat's ears.

"Friends?" the elf whispered. "Too many have fallen behind. Too many have fallen. I travel alone now." Zelraa pushed her big head into Zerra's hand. "Aye, you and Calarii are with me always, but you aren't allowed into the villages. But neither am I in some of them. Just because I can't stand the beatings in some of the alleys and streets." she shook her head.

Nohari hacked one of the minions' heads straight off. One of the other minions reached for her and tore at her robe. She turned, bringing one of her legs up in a kick, her boot crashing into its face. Then she stabbed it straight through the chest.

No more had she done that, though, when several more minions appeared.

"More of you? You must really want this woman, whoever she is."

She slashed at another of the minions, cutting off one of its arms. But there were so many. They charged her, reaching for her and clawing at her, ripping her robe. She brought her staff across one of the many faces, and then began to chant.

"Imnia esca necrose va briz."

The minions began to shriek in pain, backing away from her, a greenish light radiating from her body. She continued to chant, and they shrieked more. Then they began to disappear one by one. And then, as quickly as it had seemed to come, the dark fog dissipated and was gone, leaving Nohari standing in the middle of the road, her robe terribly shredded, with the elf and the panther.

She turned quickly to see if the elf had made it. She had. Sighing in relief, Nohari walked over and wiped the blood off her blade onto a tree. Then she slipped it into its sheath and turned to the elf.

"Are you all right?"

Zerranda snapped her head around to see Nohari. She wrapped the whip around her waist and sheathed her dirks. Zelraa began licked at some wounds. Zerra eyed the necromancer and recognized her as the one from Brownsburrow. She nodded.

"Fine. Just a few scratches. But I'll be fine." She turned to the black panther and began to assess her companion's wounds.

Nohari smiled. "If you or your panther are in need of healing, I can be of some assistance. I have some knowledge in herbology, and I have been trained in the healing realm of the necromantic arts."

She waited for a response, wondering how Felix was faring as she did. She would have to get back to him shortly. The sooner the better.

Zerra shook her head. "Nay. We will be fine. Zelraa has been through worse." Zelraa purred her throaty purr again, as in agreement.

Zerra reached into her pouch, grabbing a package. She unwrapped it and took a bite out of the bread as she pet her panther.

Nohari nodded. "Well, all right then."

As Zerra started to eat, she continued. "Say, if you're not going to be leaving right away, I wouldn't mind traveling with you. I need to get my pack mule. What do you say?"

She was hoping Zerra would accept. Traveling with only Felix wasn't awful, but she did get lonely from time to time.

"Besides, greater numbers are better against things such as the darkness."
PostPosted: Fri Aug 06, 2010 7:27 pm

Zerra nodded slightly. "Fine. We will travel with you. I warn you," Zerra stood, keeping a hand on the hilt of her dirk, pointing towards the west. "We travel a bit faster than you might. So don't be expecting me to stay my patience." Zelraa purred and pushed her big head into Zerra's side. The elf smiled briefly before pulling an item from her magical pouch. She unfolded a canvas tent. She set it up quickly and began a fire.

Seeing the look Nohari gave her, Zerra chuckled quietly. "We are safer with a fire than if we slept in utter darkness tonight."

Nohari shook her head. "I wasn't giving you the look for the fire. I know all about the darkness. I was curious as to how much patience you had. Pack mules aren't the fastest of creatures."

With that, she went off to get Felix. As she did, she wondered if traveling with this woman was such a good idea. She hoped she wasn't some stuck-up, high-horsed sophisticate with her head up her backside. That would make for bad companionship. People like that got on Nohari's nerves.

Felix was still standing where she'd left him, and Nohari got him loose and, reins in hand, began heading back toward the glow of the fire.

"Well, it seems I got us some companions, Felix. We'll see how this works out. It's not often that people agree to travel with us. I just hope this isn't a mistake."

When she returned to the camp, she unstrapped a large leather case from the pack mule's back and, opening it, pulled out a large pouch full of oats. She then proceeded to feed Felix from her hand.

"That's my boy, Felix."
