I enjoy writing horror. Truly. Generally, the monsters in my horror stories are human psychos, demons, or zombies.

As Christians, I know that horror can be iffy for us. But I enjoy writing horror and I always bring Christian undertones into the story. I wouldn't have it any other way.

At any rate, I was curious as to how you all felt about a Christian who enjoys writing horror, and/or how you feel about the genre of horror itself.

Oooh... well I enjoy the suspense thrillers where there would be a crazy madman for a villain... I think it's an interesting study to see how far evilness is in a man's soul... and how their behavior becomes so inhumane...
The other horror genres are not too appealing for me my dad said that most of the horror movies are inspired by the evil one.
If the ones who wrote the Bible were inspired by God, then what more of the writers of horror films...?

I believe the Saw movies are evil.

People don't need to be tortured to appreciate their life, to change their ways. What they need is Jesus Christ. I've only seen pieces of certain Saw movies on youtube that a friend showed me, and I cried.

Such movies are evil.

But I confess that I do like really cheesy, gory horror movies. I doubt they're to be taken seriously, and if they are, that makes them even more amusing.

I write horror stories though, and I'm a Christian. So I don't know that horror stories are ALWAYS inspired by the devil.

I'm fine with blood and gore but horror itself lacks a good intellectual plot. movies with blood, gore and intellect are movies such as Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, Passion of the Christ etc. Movies that have gore and no intellect are Saw 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 (because we all know they're not going to stop making these things.). Movies without gore but have intellect are star wars episodes 4, 5, and 6, Macgyver (I know it's a TV show but it still has loads of intellect) and Back to the Future. Movies with neither gore nor intellect would be possibly almost every movie made in the us since 1995 that hasn't fallen under any of the other categories.

i love reading about horror and i think it's great when we get some christain horror writers that can keep the horror interesting and clean at the same time.

I believe the Saw movies are evil.

If you don't mind my description, all Saw movies are 2 hours of crap and $5,000,000 or whoever gives a care what the budget is down the drain, when it could have been spent to help children in Africa, that somehow keeps the human mind interested.

Because Hollywood's stupid that way, and there's no limit to stupidity. Hey, what are you supposed to expect from them anyways? Any "good" movies are swatted down and are poor sellers, while the movies with the most gore, violence, language, and sex are number one hits.

I don't like horror... It gives me nightmares for the next three days... eek I'd always leave when someone even mentions watching a horror movie... Books are slightly better, but not by much. We did a horror unit in English. Poe stories and poems. Blegh... gonk

You obviously don't know much about horror.
Many horror stories have FANTASTIC plots. Just because there are overly popularized slasher flicks that are predictable doesn't mean that there aren't great horror stories out there.

Have you ever seen Silence of the Lambs? I suppose you could say that's more suspense, but it still is in the category of horror.

And you should read some of Stephen King's books.

Horror can be quite intellectual. Don't let popularized movies make you think that horror is low on the intellectual scale. That's insulting.

Edgar Allen Poe is a genius, and his work is fantastic and amazing. The Raven is a perfect example of intellectual horror. If you actually know WHAT Poe is writing about in that poem, it's quite terrifying.

You see, horror takes intellectual prowess. In the words of a good friend of mine, if you can make somebody reading a book with the light on get uncomfortable or scared by your story, you've done an excellent job. It takes intellectual power and the ability to wield that power effectively to do so.

Unfortunately, it's the "this guy can kill like 500 people using only his feet or some other insanely stupid weapon without any actual plan, he just goes into some random house and stalks the girl who's inside before she somehow manages to kill herself" horror movies that manage to interest people. As Fahrenheit 451 has taught me, intellectual's a swear word. No one cares as to how you found how to be a successful serial killer, they want to see you actually kill people.

Johnny Depp was awesome in that film. He played the role so well I admire him for that. Those films interest me a lot I also like Hide and Seek Robert de Niro was great there and Dakota Fanning too. The name 'Charlie' will never be seen the same way by me again...
