I had a a sort of argument with my boyfriend (and yeah, stupid I know but I forgave him) about whether or not you could class the TARDIS as a character or not.
I always have considered the TARDIS a character in some way. What, with the way she makes a mental connection with you. Which I'm pretty sure makes her sentient.
SO.
What are your thoughts on this?

I would say yes. The TARDIS literally takes the Doctor and other characters places by her own choosing, for example in the latest episode.

The TARDIS is the doctors only constant companion. You can think of it like owning a car but instead of an engine, you have a little dog running about in pure bliss.
The doctor has stated that the Tardis is a live on many ocasions and talks to it. The Tardis is made up of a a crystal life form that makes up the life inside the heart of the Tardis. Compare it to a tree with a psychic touch.
However the new series has tried to drift away from the idea that Tardis are grown. So who ever made the argument that Tardis are built and it's the same as talking to your computer would be correct for this series, but that could change.

Yes the Tardis is alive and it quiet well proven in the first season when Rose looks into the heart of the Tardis and they become one being.
And then there was the reference to when the Tardis crashed into the other univers and the Doctor gave the Tardis some of his life to save hers.
And I strongly believe that the Tardis is female. ^-^

She's definitely a character, if not in the classic series then now.

Yeah, I've always felt the same way.
I love the TARDIS, and Doctor Who would not be the same without the character of the TARDIS. If they made her just a machine, everything wouldn't be quite so special I reckon.

Most definitely. Like another user here said, the TARDIS is the Doctor's only constant companion. And his most faithful.
Plus, characters are generally considered living beings, and the Doctor has stated that TARDISes are grown. Which would insinuate that it's a living thing.

Of coarse she's a character. Even if she wasn't alive (but she is) she's still a character because the Doctor talks to her. The companions obviously don't get it but if the doctor really, truly loves anyone, it's the TARDIS. But just wondering, what would a female Time Lord's TARDIS be? Still female? Or would it be male, just because...?

Well, what I meant by asking what gender would be a female Time Lords TARDIS, I meant it in the way that they would refer to them, I doubt TARDISes have literal genders.

ZOMG, where did you get that awesome clip of Homely and Hottie gettin' their groove on? It's amazing! Did, like, the TATDIS land at your prom? And yes, the TARDIS is a living, sentient life-form. The only reason the Doctor needs human companions is because the TARDIS can't snog or tell him verbally that he's brilliant.

Of course the TARDIS is a character! Where would the Doctor be without the TARDIS? Better question, where would the Doctor NOT be without the TARDIS?
