Captain Matanceros peered around the end of the wall with the utmost caution. He turned to the ponies gathered behind him, put a stern finger to his lips, and motioned them forward. They crept into the open silently. Matanceros pressed his face to the lighted window. He could see a female pony inside. With no more attention than to see that she was alone, he turned his head to see if the others were ready. Of his crew members uncovered their torch and he looked through the window again to see if she had noticed.

Giselle was quietly brushing her hair in the living room of her home as the shadows creeped into the room. She was alone, it was nothing something she liked but her family had all gone to a party and she was showing her displeasure by staying home and sulking.
Haughty in nature, the heiress and former council member considered herself elite. Too elite to go to such a place as a common ball.

Matanceros thrust the butt end of his sword against the window. Glass shattered into the room and he burst through in the same shower. He had done this before. He had only learned to have less sympathy - to be quicker. He needed to take her away before the alarm was raised.

Giselle stood up quickly, grabbing a heavy book. She slung it across the room at the advancing pony as she tried to run.

Matanceros staggered a bit as the book slammed into his side. He rushed forward to her. Saying "Come quietly and I won't hurt you" in his gravelly voice, he started pulling her back toward the window.

Giselle was frightened and angry, but he was too strong for her. She struggled, but felt herself being pulled toward the window. "You won't get away with this!"

Matanceros admired her spunk, even as he laughed at her. "I will get away with this. I will get away with you, and your family will pay me a fortune to get you back!" With that, he carried her out the window and into the night.

Giselle had struggled futily against the pirate, but she could not escape. For hours, she paced around the cabin she was being held in until she knew every board, and every plank. There was no escape.
She was afraid, but more than that she was angry. He had no right to do this to her! She was better than this! He had no right. She would make him pay, when he came in that door...she would be ready.

Matanceros stepped into the cabin where Giselle paced. The restlessness came as familiarly to him as the cowering afterwards. He stared at her. "Are you ready to accept that I have you under my control?" he asked.

She tossed her long red hair, "No." Her eyes were cold. She had been caught off guard by him, but the feeling of escape at all costs became sweet in her mind when the cool breeze wafted in behind him.

Matanceros' eyes widened in surprise and admiration. This hippogryph did not break easily. "All my crew fears me and obeys me without question. You will find that I am not a hard master, but I am not used to being denied." He beckoned outside the doorway, and a small pony crept in with a bowl of water and a platter of white wriggling things, then hurried out of the cabin again. "I am providing you with a meal. Take this saltwater and these maggots and think about your future. Think well, or it may be short." He turned on his heel and left the cabin.

Giselle shattered the glass against the door behind him, her anger was flaring. She would figure out a way to get out of here. She wouldn't eat his horrid maggots or drink the water. She paced the room again.

Matanceros opened the door to the cabin yet again. The sound of breaking glass still echoed in his brain. He couldn't keep away from this prisoner. She had far more spirit than any other pony he had ever kidnapped. Still, he kept his voice cool and disinterested. "The time has come," he said, "when your family will want you back. I am going to send one of my sailors with a message to them, demanding my ransom. Would you like to send any pleas for mercy with him?"

"No," Giselle tossed back angrily, "I don't need anyone's mercy. And they won't pay you! They'll come and take me back, and you'll be hung for this!" She wished that was true, her family wasn't the bravest, they'd buckle easily...
