Matanceros stamped the floor in a fit of laughter. "The best patrols on the sea have failed to catch me. Do you think that your family can hang me? I will send them my message and leave you to think once again of your future. It will be far better for you to bow to me than to see me hurt you." Despite his threats, he did nothing to her but leave her alone again.

Giselle fumed, she couldn't wait to get out of here. It was infuriating to feel so trapped. She wasn't exaclty lonely, she was just kind of...pissed for lack of a better word.
This time, she wouldn't let him catch her off guard. She'd take him by surprise...

Matanceros sent off the messenger with little notice. His sailor had demanded a ransom for him before, and he knew what to do. He found himself pacing the ship, pretending that he was patrolling it, bow to aft, aft to bow, below decks, above decks - nowhere did he stay long. He liked having this victim in his cabin. He enjoyed seeing her indignation, and he did not know what to do with this feeling.

Giselle waited impatiently, she was furious with waiting. She hated this...She liked to have her control, and here she was helpless. She couldn't even try to escape until he came back. She sat down, burying her face in her hooves.

"Why do I do this?" Matanceros could not understand his feelings and did not know how to place them. He stared over the rail into the blue sea all around. His victim could not escape even if he let her out of the cabin, so why didn't he? Why be so predictable?

Giselle was enraged, she found herself beating her hooves against the door. "Let me out! LET ME OUT!" She felt like she'd go crazy if she was in here another moment.

Matanceros heard the pounding on the cabin door. He wanted to see her face when he opened it. He hurled it open and said, "Come on out. Would you like to swim home?"

For a moment, her face registered shock. She was surprised that he had answered. Then her face turned into a scowl, "No, stupid. I'll fly."

Matanceros grinned with delight. This was by far the most exciting kidnapping he had done. He kicked off the deck and flapped his own wings above her head. "Please do. I'm waiting to give chase."

Matanceros settled back down to the deck. "Very well. Since you're out of the cabin, would you like to see the rest of the ship?"

"No," she said flatly even though her interest was piqued. "I demand you take me home right now!" She stamped her foot, her eyes blazing.

"But that would defeat the purpose entirely." Matanceros mused for a moment. He wasn't used to being refused like this. "Just run off somewhere and don't bother me anymore until your lovely ransom comes in."

Matanceros smiled inside. He wouldn't have admitted it, but he was pleased. She was making things infinitely more interesting in these dreadful doldrums. "I think you had better not. I'm going to take a look at the powder magazine."
