Yup, you heard me, a POKEMON gene. Awesome dudes!!! *bounces up and down at the hilariousness* And what's more, finding POKEMON might be a cure for cancer! *bounces more* Aw, jelly-man it's aweseome. Quote: HereKey Cancer Gene Discovered By E.J. Mundell HealthDay Reporter ...Drugs to shut down the newly identified gene, which the researchers named POKEMON (for POK Erythroid Myeloid Ontogenic factor), could treat a wide spectrum of cancers, Pandolfi added, because other cancer-causing genes appear to lose their power when this key gene is switched off.... Basically, the article says how cancer is caused by certain genes causing the cells to multiply like crazy. The gene called POKEMON is a leading gene in what causes the crazy multiplication when malfunctioning. In addition to this, when drugs are used to turn off POKEMON, other genes that cause cancer are weakened.
This finding is extremely significant because it could develop into a whole new treatment for cancer. Current cancer treatment focuses on destroying cancerous cells, but drugs could just turn off, deplete levels of, or fix POKEMON (which is okay when it works properly in cells) and leave the cells intact.
The great thing about this knowledge is that so much information is known about POKEMON, it will not be difficult to do any of those things. The future looks good, as long as people support the research into POKEMON and the big drug companies don't squash any good treatments that may come of it. ( stressed )

They find out what causes cancer and they go and name it after a Japanese game that is hated by most "hardcore" gamers. Wow, I can just see the irony.
"We're going to have to inject you with this vaccine. It will help fix your POKEMON."
"What?! Pokemon is for babies! Give me Halo any day."
"Alright, your funeral. Enjoy living a life with cancer."
"Say wha?!"

Vickicat XD That's funny, I wonder if they named it that on purpose? I mean, a coincedence like that? The person who named it that must know about Pokmon. The article doesn't meantion him knowing about the game/show, so I think it was all coincedence. Besides, they normally name these kind of things by the kind of chemicals or what it does to your body. HIV = Human Immunity Virus DNA = Deoxys-something-something Acid

Now, however, is NOT one of those times.
The words are: SASQUATCH and CHEESE.
