Name: Kazuki Hinata
Race: Shinigami
Reiatsu Colour: Green/White
Division/Seat: N/A
Previously Held Seats: 6th Division/Unseated, 13th Division/Unseated, 13th Division/Vice-Captain, 10th Division Captain
Physical Description: Hinata has the appearance of a girl in her mid-teens. She is about 5ft 4in, with a slim, cat-like structure. She has narrow, intelligent greenish-yellow eyes, and her ebony hair reaches to just below her shoulders. Her skin has a healthy glow – not pale, but not tanned either.
Special Accessories: Hinata’s clothing is different from most Shinigami’s. Her uniform is still black, however, her kosode and white undergarment are sleeveless. Because her kodode reaches to her mid-thigh, and she wears only black shorts underneath, she uses her kosode as a dress of sorts. Instead of a normal white belt, she wears a light obi sash around her waist to keep her kosode in. Her shinigami socks and sandals are still the standard.
She also sports white hand protectors, which cover only the back of her hands and half of her forearm. This uniform is less restricting, as her arms and legs are free to move. Due to a habit of her elbows dislocating under pressure, she also wraps bandages on and either side of her elbows at all times.
As with all Captains, she wears a white haori, with the number: 10 in kanji on the back. However, Hinata had it tailored especially by Kazuki seamstresses to be as less in the way of her movement as possible – therefore, it hardly surpasses the length of her kosode (that is, mid-thigh region). Although it has sleeves, they are uncommonly tight-fitting down to her forearm, where they flare out so they can be rolled up if needed. The inside of her haori is a pastel green colour, to match her Zanpaktou’s hilt.
Skills: Hinata surpassed everyone in her year at hakuda combat when she was in the Shinigami Academy, and seemed to have a natural talent for it. She was recommended numerous times to the special forces, but refused, admitting that she actually didn’t like this way of combat for some unknown reason. (Her sensei has guessed it was because her sister, Kazuki Kouen, specialised in hakuda combat, and joined the 2nd Division long ago.)
Hinata is highly proficient at sensing and masking reiatsu; to her, this was an innate ability that she had possessed since she was a child. As a result, no-one knew she had a high level of reiatsu until she accidently let it loose on some guards in her home. Anybody meeting her would note that she has no reiatsu whatsoever, unless they had extremely keen senses matching that of a fellow Captain.
Abilities:
Shunpo
Reiatsu detection
Masks her own Reiatsu subconsciously
Personality: Hinata appears a carefree and contented girl, though some down points of that are that she can be lazy, and she hates paperwork. She dislikes it when responsibilities are dumped on her, as she can never be bothered to fulfil them. In battle, she is unrelenting, calculating, and can be sardonic, just like her zanpaktou. She dislikes being in a crowd; and though she doesn’t mind having people visit her, she prefers spending time alone to pursue her own leisure (or perhaps, paperwork?). This is as a result of always being alone in a large mansion in her childhood, with only the maids to accompany her.
Biography/History: Hinata was born in Soul Society, the second daughter of the old, lower-class aristocratic family Kazuki. She had a single elder sibling - her elder sister, Kazuki Kouen, who was currently serving in the Gotei 13. As a child, she was naturally inquisitive, and often ran away from the watching eyes of her maids to explore their huge mansion and gardens. However, because her parents were often away in formal parties and business dealings, and her sister had already joined the 13 Protection Squads, she was alone, excluded, and found other children strange because of their wild ways. She spent most of her childhood learning the skills of aristocrats- etiquette, calligraphy, art, music, dance, history, literature; all of these things she was expected to know from a young age.
As with most nobles, she was born with an exceptionally high reiatsu. Because she could surpress most of it since she was a baby, her family did not realise this and treated her as a normal child. It was only until she accidently knocked out several of her guards with the force of her reiatsu that they discovered she was indeed like her older sister in power. Her father re-employed Kouen’s old sensei, to teach Hinata to control her reiryoku. Though her sensei often mocked, teased and set her impossible tasks, they had became close.
Because of her sensei's prior teaching, Hinata was already at an advantage when she entered the Shinigami Academy, and therefore excelled in everything except Kidou, in which she was rubbish at for the whole duration of her time there. Nevertheless, she worked hard and, graduated from the Shinigami Academy in four-and-a-half years.
When she was assigned to the 6th Division, she never thought of attaining a seat, because she believed responsibility was for the older and wiser. Hinata found shinigami life strange compared to the formal and enclosed conditions she had been brought up in. She had never been allowed to speak her mind, do whatever she liked - honestly, she was alarmed by the amount of freedom she had.
However, shortly after this, Kazuki Kouen mysteriously disappeared from the Gotei. Rumour said that she had betrayed them to side with the hollows, and when she was branded a traitor, the Gotei began to suspect Hinata of involvement in her disappearance. The sudden revolt against her was a shock, and a catalyst to her departure from Sereitei. She left with the excuse that she was going to travel to train her Shikai, despite numerous warnings that this would only strengthen everyone’s belief in her being guilty; however her only goal was to find and confront her sister.
During her time as a drifter, Hinata developed heightened senses, and increased her skill in Hakuda and swordplay, as a result of encountering the likes of Espada, Fraccion and people sent by the Gotei to capture her. She was once captured and held by the Espada, and only escaped by lucky coincidence when the guards' concentration lapsed.
She returned 7 years later, appearing out of no-where, looking slightly more tired than before, but otherwise, she did not appear any different. Her attempts to find her sister had been futile, however. She had in fact mastered her Shikai years before she came back, but pretended her late homecoming was due to Harikaze’s stubbornness. Finding that she was assumed dead and had been knocked off the register for the 6th Division, she asked for her sensei's help in getting her back into the Gotei, and he immediately referred her to the 13th, where she joined to rebuild her shinigami career.
Since then, she has entered the 13th Division Seating Tournament, through which she gained her position of Vice-Captain, and trained with the Captain-Commander, Evil-Taicho, for Shunpo. After many years of service, she was elected the Captain of the 10th Division.
Zanpaktou:
Name: Harikaze (Crystal Wind)
Element: Air
Sealed Form: A normal katana, shorter than most. It is slung rather haphazardly across her lower back, and is attached to her hakama-himo (white belt) by a thin string. Its guard is in the shape of a curved, four-pointed star. The hilt is a pastel green colour. There is a short string coming out of the hilt, attached to it is a long silver-white ribbon. This ribbon has proved nearly indestructible, as no attack has ever damaged it (Hinata, thinking that the ribbon was too girly, tried on many occasions to rid herself of it, all of which ended in failure).
Shikai:
Release Command: Chime (“Kane”)
Released Form: The whole zanpaktou turns silvery-white. The blade changes - instead of a curved katana blade, it now looks more like the blade of a rapier; long, pointy and extremely thin. The guard is now a pair of plain, white wings, and the hilt made of twisted silver wire over white fabric.
Shikai Abilities: Using Harikaze, Hinata can “freeze” the air in contact with the blade into sharp crystals. These can be controlled with her mind, or by her hands. They can be used to attack, or be joined together to form larger structures. As with all powers, Hinata's Shikai has a disadvantage, which is that it costs a steady stream of reiryoku to form and maintain crystals, though the reiryoku still in them returns to her body if the crystals disappear.
In Shikai form, Hinata's speed is increased by three. This is the same for any speed techniques (e.g. Shunpo) as well as normal attacks.
Through experimentation, Hinata has developed a way of fusing her hakuda skills with her shikai. In this form, she concentes her zanpaktou's power into her own body. This enables her to form crystals out of her own will - she does not need to use her blade. This concentrated power means she can now fight at maximum speed, power and endurance, but this technique cannot be held for long periods of time, due to its large reiryoku consumption.
Bankai: (In Process)
Zanpaktou Spirit: Harikaze is in the form of a young girl about Hinata’s age, with long white hair, cold red eyes and dressed only in a loose, plain white dress. She is somewhat cryptic, sardonic and difficult to talk with. She very rarely shows emotion, except with the odd smirk accompanied by a snide remark, when she is shouting at Hinata, or when she is acting the drama queen. However, she is only cold and forceful because she has exceedingly high expectations for Hinata, and believes that some day she can become a great shinigami, if only she put some effort into it.
Zanpaktou Materialisation (world): Harikaze’s world is a plain made entirely of crystal. Sparse, crystal structures such as trees and rocks dot the place, but otherwise it is practically empty. It is usually cool, but not uncomfortably so, once you get used to it. It seems that the temperature reflects Harikaze’s mood- it can vary from pleasantly cool to ice-cold. There is always a strange mist around the place, wafted a few feet from the ground by the constant breeze (or, sometimes, raging wind). With this wind accompanies a tinkling sound of wind chimes.
It is always night on this plain. The sky is a dark, almost black blue colour, littered with stars. The moon seems to be unusually close- in fact, it hangs as a huge orb on the horizon, as the sun might do in setting. This silvery light is the only light source in the place.
Below the plain of crystal, lies an endless, black chasm full of horrendous tornados and hurricanes, which if you fall in, you have little chance of coming out.
