The Vice-Captain of Thirteenth had sent out several hell butterflies in an attempt to find a person to spar with. Kazuki Hinata was a well respected individual and Ami was a simple non-seated individual but she was the kind of person that had yet to be realized for the power and ability she had. After the seating tournament she had realized something with Elyse, many people thought Ami was a push over and didn't have the ability to show up her talent and skill with a blade. Some may have though that the reason why she avoided fights with a passion was because she couldn't fight at all. To disprove this she would accept a Vice-Captains challenge and would go toe to toe with her. If not to win, then to prove she had a backbone and could fight if she really wanted too. This was a perfect stranger and there was no reason why she needed to be personal with her. So as quickly as she could she responded to the woman's request and told her where and when to meet.
Standing in the empty training field she stood in a kneeled stance upon both knees. Her head bowed and she was focussing on everything she had learned up to this point. This was a personal matter, one in which she wanted to see what she would actually do in a fight. Even though it wouldn't be to the death, if either woman wasn't careful enough they would end up very very injured and possibly even die. This fight was to a no holds bared, one where the first to fall would end the fight, either that or until one said they had had enough. So with that in mind Ami focused her very being in spot, as she did within her days as a student. It was as if she where across that student so long ago, she could feel her body sink within itself, her mind falling from this realm and into the spiritual realm where Ishi Riki lived.
She appeared in that world as a mere shadow, and spoke so that Ishi could hear her, "Today you and I are going to see just how far this body can be pushed." In a quick response Ishi simply giggled, "Alright then." Knowing that Ishi Riki was still with her she left that realm and opened her eyes back into reality. Standing she pulled her blade from it's sheath and snapped it to the side, and as if the blade where a ribbon it unraveled and coiled perfectly on the ground beside her. Holding onto the hilt the ribbon simply coiled back up into it's sealed state into the long Katana. Ami was one of the few Shinigami that did not need to have a command to activate her Shikai. The connection between herself and the Shikai was so like that between two sisters. Lifting the hilt she kissed the blade lightly; the blade retaliated quickly with a quick comment, "That's distracting..." Ami simply giggled and held the blade at her side waiting for Hinata.

Although Hateshinai Ai Ami was an unseated member of the Fourth Division, Hinata had seen her around often, and had heard of her proficiency in healing as well as battle. She found it slightly odd that Ami had not yet been recognised in her skill; though she herself had only been promoted when she had entered the Thirteenth Division Seating Tournament. Having only wished to attain a respectable seat, she was shocked when she moved from an unseated member to a Vice-Captain with no stops in between. Now, she wanted to settle well into her position, and to do this she would have to interact more with shinigami from other divisions.
Bored with a lack of missions, Hinata had sent messages around the other divisions, challenging anyone available for a spar. From this battle, she was not aiming for a victory, but for a good fight and meeting new people. When Ami had accepted her challenge, she had jumped at the opportunity and hastened towards the battlefield without a further thought.
Upon arriving at the battlefield, her impression was of a normal training field, with not much grass, a few rocks here and there, and trees surrounding it. There was a faint breeze- all in all, it was the perfect condition for a friendly spar. The female shinigami walked slowly towards the sole figure kneeling in the grass- and watched, as her sword changed from katana to ribbon and back again, without her even uttering a word.
"Hmm... It appears she can release her zanpaktou without a phrase- just in case your brain is too small to comprehend," Hinata's zanpaktou, Harikaze, said snidely. The shinigami ignored the comment completely; she did not have time for Harikaze's goading now. Reaching the centre of the field, she stopped before Ami, and introduced herself.
"Hello, I'm Kazuki Hinata, Thirteenth Division Vice-Captain! Nice to meet you, Hateshinai-san!" She smiled.

It had been nearly two weeks after the seating competition and Ami had revealed she knew how to use her Shikai. Most Shinigami gained it after they had graduated, she on the other hand obtained it well before her graduation ceremony. She had also revealed that she did not need to call forth her weapons name out loud, but only will it mentally. On top of that she had mastered all things at her level of combat ability; but from another persons point of view she simply appeared to be coasting along with her low responsibility work, and all in all, low priority work. For now her captain had her doing paper work, which was perfect for unseated members that where still unskilled with fighting and kido.
Similarly she had been stuck within a rut constantly repeating the same tasks she had the day before. Hearing a random rumor about an invitation Ami quickly investigated the prompt and found a hell butterfly addressed to anybody willing enough to spar against a Vice-Captain. Unfortunately Ami had not learned Flash-Step, or any higher kido and was stuck with the skills she had learned right out of basic training.
Noticing a sound to the right of her, she quickly noticed the woman that had sent out the butterfly message. Grinning warmly she turned towards her and bowed deeply as it was the Japanese Custom. "Lieutenant Kazuki Hinata!" her voice very welcoming and cheery. Taking a step forward she sheathed her blade in respect of her superior officer, "I got your message about a friendly spar." Giggling she added as she bowed and held it, "You can call me Ai Ami, or Ami if you want to ma'am." rising again she pointed to the fourth squad pack just above her rump, "Just in case you get hurt to badly I brought some band-aids." Giggling again the small woman loosened up slightly but still held a respectful stance before her superior.
As she swallowed Ami quickly realized that her mouth was dry and her heart was pounding. This meeting with a Vice-Captain from another squad was nerve wrattling because she wanted to put off a respect-full demeanor while not completely changing who she was personally. Pushing through her nerves with almost near flawless feyness she quipped, "Do you have any rules for this spar?"

"Eh- please, you don't have to address me so formally..." Hinata said exasperatedly, waving her hands about to illustrate the point. "I've only very recently been promoted from an unseated member like yourself. I'm assuming our powers would be about the same level, considering you have already achieved shikai. As for rules-" she pondered the issue for a second, before responding: "-I don't think we need any to be honest. I'd say no shunpo, but since neither of us have achieved it anyway..." She chuckled, before backing away slowly and unsheathing her zanpaktou.
Harikaze was an average katana- slightly shorter than most, but this was partially due to the fact that Hinata herself was too short to carry around a standard-size katana, for fear of tripping. Its hilt was a light green colour, its guard the shape of a curved, four-pointed star and a long white ribbon attached to the hilt. Hinata often found that this ribbon was more of an inconvenience than it was worth; although it gave her zanpaktou a sense of originality, she found it too childish for her liking.
"Okay, let's forget about rank and whatnot. It's not every day you come across someone you don't know willing for a friendly fight, so let's take the chance to test ourselves while we're at it! Care to begin?"

Nodding at the Vice-Captains words she grinned and nodded in understanding, "Can I call you Ms. Hinata?" giggled sheepishly as she looked down briefly, "I'd feel disrespectful addressing you as anything less." Blushing slightly she too took a step back following the other woman's lead, automatically her eyes traced each step and she could feel her own heart pounding within her head. With each small step Hinata took Ami replied with a mirrored step. Looking back up with cautious eyes Ami's gaze was a mixture of focus and nervousness, with that signature smile, even though it was extremely laden with nerve.
Lowering down into a very nervous boxed up Kendo stance. Unlike the practiced stance she was nervous and already over thinking what her opponents possible moves would be. Right now she felt powerless, but then that voice so crisp and clear as if standing right beside her; Ishi Riki, her Shikai spoke to her within her own mind, "You've practiced this countless times, against countless people. What makes her so different?" Ami sighed outwardly and looked to the ground and began to meditate on spot, closing her eyes she nodded to Hinata's last words, "No rank, no rules..." Looking up her gaze was empty and her stance loosened, mentally she addressed her Shikai, "You're right, but I'm still nervous." Ishi re-assured her quickly after, "Good, it'll be what keeps your mind and body in check."
Ami didn't respond to her shikai and handn't released it yet either. Flexing her entire body readying for the fight the small woman sprang from spot and just as she came within striking distance Ami screamed out a single word, "SHO!" and both hands slid from the weapon towards Hinata's chest; the single Kido would feel like a solid kick when it landed upon her chest.
Taking a step back from the attack instinctively she took another sharp breath to steady her body and spirit. Throwing her arms out at either side of her body she quickly spun her body around so that her arms tisted like a fan, and she finished in a low crouch, her hands pressed out palms first, and she grunted, "Seki." as she said the word a circular pink shield formed blocking her entire body at first it glowed brightly, but slowly it began to fade. A hint that the Kido was at it's stronger just after being cast, and slowly weakened as time passed.

“Heh, just a ‘-san’ is fine…” Hinata then shifted her grip on her sword, and cocked her head, interested to see what fighting style her new opponent had. Seeing the kido come flying in her direction, she raised her zanpaktou, ready to parry. She forced some reiryoku through her blade to absorb the impact, then slashed forwards at the spell, causing some of it to disperse and the rest to bounce back at Ami. The energy had no effect whatsoever, as Ami had already cast a shield which successfully blocked what remained of it.
“Hmm… Nice kido, but you’ll need a distraction first for such an obvious move,” the Vice-Captain commented with an approving nod. “Or you’ll at least-” she darted to the left, before spinning around Ami to her unguarded back, “-have to get closer.” She took a vicious swipe at her adversary’s left back and waist, followed by a kick aimed at her neck- her signature moves in starting a battle.

As the VC simply avoided her attack by pressing it back at her, the shield successfully absorbed all of the remaining ricochet and as it did so the Shield quickly vanished from sight. As this happened Ami's entire body shifted loosely back into a back seat sort of position where her weight was center back away from her forward offensive stance allowing her to shift any to all of her weight in any direction at will. So when Hinata quickly moved in for an offensive strike the small unseated member simply stepped with her attack and threw the weight of her shoulders and torso into her own sword and swiped it downward to smash the attack downward, as her blade pressed Hinatia's down she took a quick hop back and slid the blade up along Hinata's and towards her hand attempting to cut off her fingers holding onto the hilt.
Following through with this she took another hop back and ducked to avoid the high kick to her throat, at the same time she pulled her blade back prepared to jab but instead held it and waited for Hinata's weight to settle into another pose or allowing the woman to take a step back or press in for another attack. "What happens when I stop being so obvious?" She grinned devilishly.

Seeing Ami's blade come slicing up for her fingers, Hinata simply turned her wrist so that her zanpaktou's winged guard blocked the attack. After her opponent had dodged her kick too, she noticed her sword pull back as if about to attack once more, but stop in mid-movement. She immediately leapt backwards out of Ami's range; it was too much of a chance to take.
"When you stop being so obvious, it shows improvement. And improvement is what we're going for by doing these endless battles, yes? It also shows you're using your brain, which is good training for a tricky opponent," the Vice-Captain said in reply to Ami's question. "Now, let me see..." She pretended to be thinking of more to say, but instead crouched, dug her heels into the ground and propelled herself into the air. Once airborne, she kicked off and shot with lightening speed at Ami. "- You're open." She started with a diagonal slash at Ami's head, before raining down a bombardment of hacks and stabs, all aiming to penetrate her opponent's guard.

There was the hum of metal on metal as her sword connected with the hilt of her sword, and fluidly she shifted into another stance yet held it in a confident yet loose stance. Ami's body never flinched yet as Hinata jumped back Ami echoed her move but jumped forward and landed with her feet wide apart ready to jump or shift in any direction needed to stay a move ahead of her opponent.
Giggling at HInata's tutor tone of voice and instructional words she simply shook her head as if to mock her opponent, "Maybe that would be true if I was a student Hinata-san." As the woman jumped into the air Ami flicked her blade upward keeping it's cutting edge pointed at her, and with a single motion she too swung from the opposite direction to counter the attack but was met quickly with a flurry of kicks, which she was not able to avoid, but was able to perry every stab but took several kicks to her shoulders and chest. Stumbling back she kicked up and performed a few backflips and as she did so she'd with a single hand swipe out at her opponent followed by a double footed kicks, one right after another.
As she landed after a slightly sideways cartwheel Ami stood holding her full sized Katana with one hand, the other held to the side, and with a snap of her wrist her blade unraveled into Shikai. It quickly lashed out to the side and began to slither on the ground in place. Just as quickly as it activated, she had sealed it away back into it's original form.
Swiping her blade out as if cleaning it off she stabbed it into the ground just beside her and burst forward in a full tilt sprint without her weapon. Taking a few to build up the strength she quickly forced her legs down and then up which sent her body high into the air and over the other woman landing facing Hinata. Now Ami had the VC between herself and her sword. Grinning she giggled, "Now I got you."
As she stood she could feel her chest ache from the previous kicks...

Hinata was mildly impressed that Ami could deflect most of her attacks- at that speed, not many were capable. That only proved her first thought upon entering the battlefield; that this shinigami was capable enough to be a seated officer. Nevertheless, she felt her feet connect with her opponent's body several times, and smiled triumphantly- the first hit in a battle could determine the outcome.
As Ami flicked her zanpaktou, releasing and un-releasing it again, Hinata wondered what sort of display this was. Sticking her sword into the ground, Ami began running towards Hinata without her weapon, much to the surprise of the Vice-Captain, who had seldom come across such risky moves. She grinned; how her adversary handled this was certainly going to be interesting. Ami leapt over her, landing to face her back.
"You got me, you say? Interesting tactics, but your mistake this time was..." she turned to face her opponent, a devilish smile playing upon her lips, "...leaving your weapon behind. Chime, Harikaze." At once, her sword began to glow a faint green colour, before swirling wind encased it, obscuring it from view. When she emerged seconds later, Harikaze had turned into a pure white, rapier-bladed sword. Flicking it to the side in an imitation of Ami, Hinata then slashed it through the air. Immediately, thousands of crystals flowed out of the blade, which Hinata split into two sections. With her hands, she commanded the first section of deadly shards to shoot at Ami, and the second to form a shield behind her lest Ami’s zanpaktou could be released without its owner holding onto it.

As Hinata activated her Shikai Ami just as she said the word, ”Chime…” Ami lunged forward blurring in a blink of an eye, she slapped the girls weapon wielding hand as she passed by giggling slightly as she performed a few cartwheels and once again held her weapon, she spun in a circle with her blade out and the sword released yet again and the ribbon spun until it was completely spun around her entire body, it continued to twirl about her like a small twister. Hinata’s shards came and where deflected harmlessly against the ribbon blade and shot in completely random directions. Now she had a shield in front of her own form while Ami had her twister protecting her. Giggling as she spun the ribbon about herself she lowered her hands to her side but the ribbon continued to spin even though she herself no longer made an attempt to keep it moving. A blatant hint that her ribbon could be manipulated freely without the need of actually using her own motion to maintain the graceful moves the ribbon could make.
Giggling again she stopped the ribbon which now it did not move and it looked like time completely froze except that the slight breeze flowing from Ami stopped. As she took a step forward the ribbon fell to the ground around her entire form, and drug lightly behind her, ”Chime Harikaze?” giggling she pointed at her weapon with her free hand, ”Your weapon is amazing Hinata-san!” she threw up the arm holding the weapon and it cracked like a loud gun to her side like a whip. ”But can it keep up with Ishi Riki?” In actuality the weapons wide ribbon had rolled over the long ways making it shaped like a whip. Then she drug it back and it coiled into a large ball as if it were a medieval mace. Then as if it never took a form and was simply a lifeless ribbon.
Looking down to the pile of pink ribbon she smiled and shook her head, ”I’m a bit worried though Hinata.” Looking up her gaze was soft and filled with sympathy, ”How many forms can your weapon take?” she curled her arm back and the ribbon coiled around her arm forming a demonic three clawed arm, starting at her shoulder. The claws dug deep into the ground beside her as if it where sand, because with this arm, the ribbon allowed weight not to be a factor. Pulling up a huge chunk of soil the ribbons calwed hand instead unraveled and wrapped around the huge chunk of earth, looking back she giggled again, ”Are you ready yet Hinata-San?”

"If its a question of whether Harikaze can keep up, have you realised my speed has tripled since my shikai release? So yes, I do believe we can." Hinata indicated the point by raising a palm. At her command, her crystals formed into a sphere, then a sword, and finally a phoenix which took flight, all in the blink of an eye. Just as fast as the bird raised its wings again, it had dissipated into thin air.
"As for how many forms it can take, as far as I know, only two. One normal, or proper one, and the other I made up myself from training." She grinned. "You'd be surprised how strong you can make yourself just from your imagination," she carried on dis-concernedly. "Anyhow, shall we begin?" With these words, she drew in the shards that Ami had deflected previously. With lightening speed, she darted in front of her opponent, swiping at the arm that was not holding the ribbon. While she did this, she instructed her crystals to form a ring around Ami, shooting in at her from all sides.

Giggling again she bowed respectfully, then stood upright, "Well good, I was worried that Harikaze would bore Ishi." she held up her free hand as if to apologize, "It's just..." she looked down and her face went slightly flat as her mind raced for the right word her eyes lifted back up to watch her weapon take it's forms before finishing, "I've never actually used Ishi in a fight before now." Grinning the hand crushed the earth that was collected into it's claws and the debris fell freely to the ground.
Raising an eye brow she smiled coyly, though slightly forced. She spoke again, "Well Hinata-San, just be sure you aren't so open about your weapons abilities in the future." Giggling she quipped, "Might put you at a disadvantage." Then as quickly as the shards began to collect she pushed her claw outward and the ribbon exploded spinning quickly around her entire form, again deflecting the two objects, she pulled back with her hand and the ribbon exploded into the ground which sent her high into the air away from the ring that would have wrapped around her entire body and impaled her from all sides.
Just as quickly as the ribbon pushed her high into the air, the long silk like blade snapped back up around her form, she performed a few backflips before landing in a three point stance, dust lightly lifted where she settled, the ribbon lashed about her as if a cats tail, "Be a little creative Hinata, you're not making this any fun." Standing she could feel her heart race, and she could feel the excitement from this fight pusle through her every vein. Her words where only meant to intimidate her opponent, "My turn." she said softly then spun in a full circle the ribbon spun around her and formed around her like a wide floating hoola hoop. Though it now had coiled up around her entire body tightly ready for yet another attack she simply stood in place, a loose offensive stance with her feet shoulder width apart.

"Well, since you asked, I didn't think it would do any harm," Hinata chuckled. "And being an intelligent shinigami, you would have found out sooner or later. Now... Where were we?"
After Ami had deflected her attack, and wrapped herself in her own ribbon, the Vice-Captain had already begun collecting her crystals again. Since she very much doubted her shards could cut through Ami's ribbon, she went for her head instead.
A single shard whistled through the air, aiming between her opponent's eyes, and prompting her to dodge or block. A split second later, a huge crystal drill followed at an alarming speed, rotating so fast it was but a blur to the human eye. It would follow Ami until it hit; its purpose not to cut her, but to drive her backwards and distract her. While Ami was occupied, Hinata shifted next to her and took a vicious slash at the back of her neck.

((OOC: I'm not sure how you'd do a grapple without it becoming an auto-hit. I'm sorry and if it bothers you I can change it. *huggles*)) Shaking her head and giggling Ami didn't say anything in return but squeezed the hilt of her blade. The ribbon tightened and it sounded as though metal was rubbing against metal. As Hinata's eyes shifted Ami's ribbon leveled about chest high and continued to tighten in air. It wasn't wrapping tighter around Ami but the coil itself was now double strength.
The prompt fell on deaf ears, her ribbon simply fanned out and blocked the shard and like a spring ready to be coiled up it quickly wrapped around the shard and held it firmly in place until the second shard came and with a coy smile she lashed out with her ribbon and quickly let the spinning shard spint itself into an unbreakable tangle. The ribbon wrapped tightly around either shard. Though she had let her eyes fall from Hinata for a moment to capture her shikai she was able to duck just soon enough so that the blade cut off just a hint of her pigtails. Lunging away the two balled up crystal where now helplessly out of Hinata's grasp. With that Ami giggled and wrapped herself up within the ribbon like a cocoon, keeping her safe from any physical attacks. Only her eyes peaked out from a small slit.
Her girlish voice called out and let the two shards go by whipping them back at Hinata, "Call this a draw?" she wiggled slightly excitedly from within he cocoon, "There's no reason to go until one of us gets really hurt." She sealed the slit and was fully safe from within the cocoon, "Maybe I can get to know you better?" The slit opened up lightly; she peaked out, "This seems so silly, neither of us need training."
