It basically is.
I've been playing an english-patched ROM of it, and I must say I've quite enjoyed it.
Don Patch is my favorite character in it.

I've played the Japanese Version at a Gamezilla because some guy had it during 40k night... anyways I didn't know what I was doing and still had a blast... so yea, its like SSB that way.

Yeah, it is. Man, I really wanna play this game but it's only in Japanese and I don't know a thing about downloading and ROMs and patches.
Though I think the ultimate Smash bros is still Mugen... biggrin

I agree with Cattra, Jump Ultimate Stars is good,and I had no idea WTF I was doing in the game,but I still kicked a**. xD

Bought it as an Import. lol, cant understand sh*t but all the more reason to learn japanese. btw, i got stuck on one mission with no f*cking idea of what to do next.

I've had it for a couple of years. For your importing needs there's a translation guide-thingy on IGN that I always used.

It's nowhere near as good as SSB.
The gameplay is totally different and the characters are boring unless you're a real anime freak.

This game is awesome, lots of characters, cool powers, power ups and assistants, its very fun, but still I would prefer a super smash bros DS

Don't play this game wihout a translation guide and at least the name of the anime stage you're playing in name's so you know what part of the guide to check.
I kept getting stuck on missions where I died as soon I was damaged and still lost if I just survived.
