I'm not sure if this topic has/was already done, since I only checked the first page. I also apologise if it has, and if it has, please delete this thread, etc.

Like the subject states, "What inspired you?", from Pokemon, to Cowboy Bebop, we've all seen some form of Anime or Manga somewhere, (Or even cartoons like Powerpuff girls) but what inspired you to pick up a pencil and draw, and why?
In my case, it had to be Outlaw Star, since I was little, and used to watch it during night times when I had nightmares. Since then I've always had a penchant for spaceships, guns, and that ktarl Ktarl

Actually, any good art I saw inspired me. Mainly what got me drawing though was "Dragon Ball Z" and when I was older "Naruto." I'm back on my Dragon Ball Z craze though. =]

Pokemon when it first came out and wasn't on KidsWB. So practically I've been drawing for 11 years now. However what really inspired me and changed my art style was the manga Immortal Rain. I'm in love with the art style. sweatdrop

I watched a slew of Toonami-run series, haha. Oh, those were the days. Then I found a "How to Draw Manga" book at the book fair during fifth grade and the rest is kind of history.
... although that leaves out a lot of style envy, constructive criticism, and growth, but that's less inspiration and more "track record" so maybe not. :/

As far as overall drawing, it was actually boredom! I had nothing to do so I grabbed some paper and started scratching on it. (I refer to sketching as scratching)
For manga, it started when I first watched Inuyasha, then I lost interest, then I had an idea for a story, and I started drawing manga again.

My mother, she used to draw people when she had free time so I wanted to do the same...but our goals have changed since then sweatdrop
What inspired me to draw Anime was Knights of the Zodiac (Saint Seiya) and then Dragon Ball (the original, not the Z series) surprised

To honestly tell you the truth, I really cannot remember a time I didn't have a pencil or marker or crayon in my hand coloring or doodling on the walls, paper, and even in my earliest forms of schoolwork....And I'm still doing it today! Well, except for on the walls, I get in trouble for that. As for Manga styles, I watched Pokemon not long after it came out, and Naruto, then I really started getting into stuff like Fullmetal Alchemist, Eureka Seven (BEST Manga show ever!!!!) and Elfen Lied (Such a good show, why did it end at 13 episodes?!) So that is what inspired me...

I know this is odd but DBZ was the first thing I ever tried drawing. Course I was only 6 and didnt do so well, but after I got into the 5th grade I got a rival who I think is still beter than me o-o (not sure, havent seen him since then)
I do not draw DBZ style, its just how I started >P

I would say that the show Inuyasha was what really got me interested, although I doubt I would have ever actually started if I hadn't come across an old 'How to Draw Manga' book =3=
Now, though, my friends are my inspiration. I'd have given it up a long time ago if my best friends, most of them also artists, didn't encourage me to keep it up.

I inspired myself, actually! (I'm a self-taught artist, so... xD) I was at home with my box of prettyful Crayola crayons and prettyful construction paper, and decided why not! (drew a decent house razz ) Later, my artistic cousin inspired me... then it became ninja/god(dess) animes (for my characters) So yeah, that's my lame-o story! sweatdrop
