Excuse me, but I need to sort out my cosplay options for Otakon. I need as much advice as possible by the end of this week. I'll post my measurements tomorrow.
THE VITAL STATS
Otakon countdown: 45 days.
Cosplay budget: $100.
Current spending money for Otakon: $102 + Graduation Money (to come) + Allowance + Other misc. funding. Probably no more than $200 total.
Definites: I am 18, and will therefore probably buy some 18+ material; I will be a Grunny on Friday, July 17, no matter what; I have a pre-prepared Bleach cosplay from last year.
OPTION 1: Hinaichigo Cosplay from Cosplay House
PROS:
- Looks like a good quality material
- Looks pretty accurate
- Comes with (fake?) lollipop
- Medium would fit
CONS:
- $87 (most expensive of all my options)
- Does not include bloomers
- Shipping time unknown
- Shipping cost unknown
OPTION 2: Hinaichigo Cosplay from Light in the Box
PROS:
- $60 (less expensive)
- Shipping time would probably be a little less
- Includes bloomers
- Puffier-looking shoulders
CONS:
- Pink jacket color looks a little less accurate
- Pink jacket looks a little lower quality
- Shipping is a bit more expensive (Chinese wholesale website)
Hinaichigo Cosplay in general:
PROS:
- Least complicated Rozen Maiden cosplay
- I've read the whole manga and adore the character
- "HinaichiGLOMP! Project" plan
- KAWAIIIIIIIIIIII! <3
CONS:
- I'd still need to buy wig & shoes regardless
- I'd need to do something with my eyebrows
OPTION 3: Suiseiseki Cosplay from Cosplay House
PROS:
- Looks to be pretty accurate
- Looks to be good quality
- $80 (a little bit cheaper than Hinaichigo)
- Sizing would work better
CONS:
- Does not come with headpiece
- Sleeves are do not appear to have white under-piece
OPTION 4: Suiseiseki Cosplay from Light in the Box
PROS:
- $60 (less expensive)
- Comes with headpiece
- Looks to be about equal quality
- Sleeves have the white under-piece
CONS:
- Sizing wouldn't work as well
- Shipping is steep
Suiseiseki Cosplay in general
PROS:
- Does not show as much of my body
- I could meet up with someone to be Souseiseki
- Wouldn't have to do too much with my hair
- She loves pocky
CONS:
- HEAT gonk
- Colored contacts
- I'd be obliged to end every sentence with "desu"
- She's not fond of people
OPTION 5: Haruhi Suzumiya Cosplay from Light in the Box
PROS:
- $50 (cheapest of all my options)
- Looks pretty good
- Comes with armband
- Shipping time should be shorter
CONS:
- The measurements might not work out too well
- SHORT SKIRT! gonk
- Does not come with headband
- Shipping is steep
OPTION 6: Haruhi Suzumiya cosplay from 399 Cosplay
PROS:
- It's gotten great reviews
- "A superb exact replica"
- "The material is unbelievably comfortable"
- Skirt is a little longer
- Fit would be better (probably)
CONS:
- $73 (more expensive)
- $35 flat shipping rate gonk
- Does not come with armband OR headband
Haruhi Suzumiya Cosplay in general
PROS:
- I have a huge crush on her redface
- I can do her personality well
- I'd get noticed and photographed
- I kinda look like her
- Wouldn't have to alter my hair
CONS:
- I don't think I can muster up the rest of the SOS Brigade
- I'd be forced to dance every few minutes
- SHORT SKIRT!
- Neither of the costumes comes with the headband
