Has anyone gotten to an extreme liking of a particular song, and went "Hey! I can play this on my instrument?!"
So you learn it, and every time you now hear said song, you pick up your instrument and play along?
I know I have.
Discuss:
-Any song(s) and on what instrument? -Did any song get stuck in your head after you learned it?

I used to learn pieces by ear, but then I realized that I could just listen to a song and sing a part to a tuner, giving me exact starting notes. I have horrible pitch recognition.
Pre-tuner Legend Comes to Life (Pokemon 2000) Tears of Life (Pokemon the 1st movie) Suteki da Ne (Final Fantasy X) 1000 Words (Final Fantasy X-2) Fantasmic (Disney) Raine's Theme (Tales of Symphonia)
Post-Tuner Lloyd's Theme (Tales of Symphonia) Rest for the Heart (Tales of Symphonia)
The first one listed was the original reason I decided to play the flute, which is what I play for all of these.

Ha! I like to play Korobeiniki (The Tetris theme) as well as the cantina band song, the pokemon theme, the final fantasy victory theme, and the fellowship theme from LOTR on the trumpet and the french horn.
I know what you're thinking "GAWD HE'S SO KEWL!!!1111oneoneoneelevenonehundredone11!!!!!!1" <-----------(Sarcasm)

heck i'm a music major and i can barely pick things up by ear. it takes me awhile to do it if i try. i would rather have music for it. The only music that i've tried to play by ear is One Summer's Day from Spirited Away and that was only the beginning piano part

Playing by ear is pretty much how I survived piano lessons. >.>;; I hated sight-reading. I still like to play by ear, but it's hard to play along with songs for me because the difference in keys between the song and my Bb clarinet are always really funky.

I'm all about the ear. I've been transcribing melodies and solos since I was 12. I can't necessarily do it in the right key though, since I don't have perfect pitch. Play me a melody and I can play it back...probably in C major... xp

I could play by ear. I sometimes just sit down while an Ipod is playing and play whatever appears. However, I can't do uber complicated songs with 64th sweep picks and arpeggios and all that.
