I was watching videos on youtube. Some guys in Korea were teaching their Korean friends how to swear in Spanish. I will admit, I taught my friends swear words in Spanish and some of them have taught me swear words in Polish.

Why is it so funny?

Is it because we retain that child like innocence? We do not know what the word is. When a child swears, it's so cute! They dont know what the word is. Sometimes, when a person swears in another language that is not theirs, it's funny yet adorable because they don't know the meaning of the word. This is what I came to conclusion to.

I do not find it cute either.

When people ask me to teach them curse words in English or Spanish i tell them of all the words i can teach them, those are the last ones i ever would..And i never do =/

I only teach foreign swearwords/insults to friends who are learning (or are interested in learning) the language from which they come.

I don't really find it cute for children to swear, either. If a kid asked me how to say a certain bad word in another language, I'd probably mislead them.

"How do you say F-you in Spanish?"

"In Spanish? You say 'Te quiero'."

That'll get 'em beaten up for sure. whee

lol i think its funny, i remember reading some old book, an agent of CIA write about his life before and after he become the agent

one in the book said that he has met one foreigner asking him what f--k means, and he told that the word has lots of meaning and that it can be also means beautiful.
then that night that foreigner go to a shop and ask the shopkeeper "may i have a look at the f--king bag?" and the shopkeeper (a woman) become like shocked. the agent need to pull the foreigner out of the shop and then tell him that such word should not be used in front of ladies and children. xd rofl

IRL I cuss like a sailor, so as a result, I take very great delight in teaching other people how to swear in other languages, as well as learning myself these words. The other day I taught a friend how to say in Spanish "bien cabrĂ³n", a phrase that means something similar to "so ******** much". biggrin

If my friends are interested in learning the language, sure, I'll teach them some things.

However if they're young, some random person I don't know, or I dislike them, I'll either won't tell them out right or I'll mislead them.

For example:

Them: Hey, how do you say "Go f*** a goat" in German?

Me: You'd say "Ich habe Angst vor Rosinen." wink

Them: Okay, thanks! *walks away*

Me: *dies of laughter* xd

It doesn't bother me a whole lot, even though I don't like being around a bunch of potty mouths. I do wish that more people would learn it because they are actually learning the language instead of finding ways to insult people without them knowing what they are saying. sad

This reminds me when I was in tenth grade Biology class. eek We had a foreign exchange student from Germany. Well, As soon as the whole class found out she was German in just seconds they all bombarded her asking her how to say swear words and such. I felt really bad for her. I would of been freaked out if my whole class surrounded me like that. xd

This also reminds of this years foreign exchange student from Germany. Except this time, he wants to learn how to say naughty things in English. blaugh Everytime at our lunch table when someone tries to teach him something bad, My friend Emily freaks out at them and say "Don't teach him that kind of stuff!" Like she is his mother or something. It was really funny when people had the idea of taking him to Hooters. She freaked out! The funny thing is he is older than most of us. xd

If someone asks how to swear in Japanese, I'll give them a few words, and also explain the context. For example, "kuso" is known to mean "s**t," but it's not as harsh as in English. For example, you'll hear characters in children's anime say "Kuso!" It's actually more like "Damn it!" in spite of its literal meaning, which is the same as in English. On the other hand, "chikushou," which means "beast," is harsher and used less commonly.

Henneth Annun
"Ich habe Angst vor Rosinen."
Epic. Win.

I guess the swear words are so much fun to know/teach, because they're 'naughty'...but also because we often swear despite ourselves, so those words are an important part of the 'everyday' of a culture.
Teaching someone these words, or asking someone these words is fraternizing, in a way. It's also...so much better and alive than textbook learning: learning common used words right out of the mouth of a native speaker, in a playful way.
You might call it plebeian. But...I think it's a basic ^_^

As for teaching children how to swear or shielding them, that's a whole other discussion I suppose.
