So, we had a football game last night.
When we were playing our pregame show, halfway through our fight song, we hear the other band playing.
O:<
WTF?
They were one of the rudest bands I've seen.
The rudest one I saw was the one who played their fight song when a football player from our team was injured.
>____>;
I mean, c'mon, if you see someone's hurt, you gotta stop playing.
Seriously.
Yet they were able to stop when a person from their team was hurt.
I want to throw rocks at the band directors from those bands...
[/rant]

So, any experiances with a rude band?
Are you a member of a rude band and want to throw a rock at your BD?

This is only related to the band playing during an injury.

That band sounds like many sons of bishes.

Our last home game of the season is Senior Night, so the middle school band plays in the stands with us. Well, this year's Senior Night, it was raining and freakishly cold, so we were just going to get in arches and play through our show. We were in arches warming up just out of the end zone. We all had our backs to the field and the directors were on ground level so nobody could see the field. Unbeknownst to us, there was a player injured while we were in the middle of a warm up. We didn't find out until after the game. So the stadium's dead quiet waiting to see about the injured guy and there we were, in the back of the endzone blasting out a warm up. Yeah. It was bad.

Ugh, one time when we were performing halftime, the other band was laughing and carrying on, talking and not even paying attention to our performance! And by that time I was already pissed because we had to walk by some tailgaters to get into the stadium and all they did was boo and make fun of us the whole way. I ******** hate that school. Nothing but rude and disrespectful people there.

Oh I hate when that happen, when the other band plays when someone's down. See in our band we have to pay attetion to everything so we know when to play and when not to. When some one is down in our band everyone is yelling saying shut up to the people in our band then we are dead quit. Also our BD makes us watch the other band because its the right thing to do, showing respect. 3nodding

That's so awful! I can't believe some people!

We've had a couple. One was an air force band that we were playing at the same football game with. They played on our time outs and not obeying the rules, so eventually my band director got angry and told us to start playing whenever they started to play, and to drown them out.

We won.

There was another one, with a band full of 30-40 year old people. And they started to make fun of our head drum major's conducting! I couldn't believe they would be so immature. Finally, one of our assisstant drum majors went over, took the guy who started it all outside of the building, and yelled at him.

I was cheering her on.

i cant stand it when bands act like idiots during the results of a competition.

during freshman year, all i heard about was how class was really important, and i guess that stuck with me.

but when they yell like idiots, that makes me mad. the parents are the ones that are supposed to act like idiots (untill you get on the bus or most of the bands are gone. THEN you can act like idiots)

ANYWAYS

the rudest band that ive seen was at state this past year. all the bands were in uniform on the feild, and at attention, and the band beside us wouldnt shut up or stop moving,

then when they got to, i dunno the top 7 or so, they started cheering because they WERENT in that place (they got 2ed)

that was probably the most rude thing you can do, other than doing stuff when another band is playing, band is playing, but for a band as a hole, that is probably one of the most disrespectful things ive seen

Ugh. Bands like that just tick me off. Not only does it show how stupid they are it shows theyre undisciplined and disrespectful. I dont really think i've met a band THAT bad, at a competition once there was this really loud band carrying on the i wanted to slap, but otherwise, the bands here are mostly respectful to eachothers preformances. lol

I agree lol. Our band is taught that we should always (ECSPECIALLY in uniform) behave respectfully and classy. Like, when we sit in our stands, our lines are always DEAD STRAIGHT and nobody is jumping around or yelling, and we keep our whole uniforms on, and that always shows how disciplined we are because all the other bands arent in uniform, and are screaming and jumping around, and its not impressive.
But that thing you said about them cheering that they werent in that spot is really really rude.

Let's see. I haven't had many experiences with rude bands. Sometimes I don't agree with what they're doing and other times...I think we kind of egged them on...but I do know of experiences with rude bands.

Let's start with my experiences. I'm in the pep band of my college so my freshman year, we went on the Women's Pac10 basketball tournament and when we returned from our first game and took the elevator up to our floor, we found one of the other pep bands standing in the elevator lobby, all of them drunk and we could smeel that they were smoking pot. Needless to say, I didn't approve much of it.
There was a different time at our football rivalry game and we seperated the pep band from the rest of the marching band and we played at a special thing for our team. We then proceeded to walk through the tailgating area of our rival college. Needless to say, we were booed and had things thrown at us. Someone was nearly hit in the head with a football. Then of course, as soon as we leave, our BD has us turn around and play our fight song. One of the opposing fans...then decided to drop his pants and moon us. It was an interesting experience.

As for things not done to me, there is a reason we arne't fond of the USC band. This all happened before I got there though. During every football game, my band is given a cup of pepsi or cup after half time. Well, we decided that we shuld share with the other band. So we sent a couple members of our band over to give them the drinks. The other band responded by throwing the cups of soda at us. (This was back when our uniforms were dry-clean only) Their BD also proceeded to grab our trombone section leader by the uniform and started shaking him while swearing and yelling at him.

It was an away game that was bad the moment we got off the buses. That night would be the worst away game we'd experienced that season.

we were at a partucularly hillbilly, redneck school and we were marching in behind their home stadiums and the other schools alma mater was playing so we stopped out of respect and when we stopped fans from the other school turned around and threw pop, candy, and food on us and spit on us and we just stood there. I mean ADULTS were doing this too! They did this during THEIR own alma mater.

AND later their members tried to pick a fight with our band. They were so HOSTILE that the chapperones were made to take us to the bathroom! During their halftime show we were kneeling on the sidelines and no one bothered to tell us that their show included fireworks (crappy ones I might add) . Well our band was sitting pretty much right on them, and they just let them off!!

The drumline had to run to get their drums out of the way!

ugh.

So, we were at a crossover game, and the other school was a CHRISTIAN school.

We had a girl on our guard with a broken arm and YOU COULD TELL cause she had a hot pink brace. But, she still marched her place. Well, when our second song started, some idoit had the balls to yell, "Hey, moron, you forgot you flag!"

>.< All these stories really tick me off!

My band is one that takes pride in itself and has old-school respect. So whenever we win an award we're called to attention and don't clap for ourselves. Well, at a state qualifing competion, the host band qualifies. So what do they do? They yell and scream because their so excited they made it. Their running out on their field and jumping around like a bunch of idiots. We just walk past them. I mean seriously, just because you made it into the state finals doesn't mean you don't have to show some class?!?!?!

Also, we were at a state regional for our winter drumline and the drumline is in the stands watching some shows. All of a sudden my friend gets hit with a cup. She turns and another drumline is laughing. She asks who threw it and some idiot stands up and says "Oh, we're so sorry, Karen is a whore." ?!?!?!?!??!?! WTF?!?!?!? stressed What does that have to do with you throwing a cup at her?!

well the rudest band ive ever known is the one from the same area/town as my band.... during our home game against them, when we marched during halftime they booed at us and then we usually go change out of our uniforms during third quarter... they blocked the path we use to move percussion equipment. (this was a pep band) then they laughed at this girl from my section whose hip locked... what a nice band dont u think?

After a competition that we did poorly at, we went back to our buses, talking to each other, trying to forget our loss. The winner of the competition was a private school that is a bunch of rich white kids who have had private lessons for years. So, naturally, they won because they were truly superior players. How do they celebrate? Cornering our lead baritone (who was a freshman at the time) and telling him how our band "sucks a**." Our lead baritone, however, is also a football player, almost 6 feet tall, and 260 lbs.
Needless to say, he got in a few punches at them. He also didn't get in any trouble.
