this christmas i recieved fire red in my stocking!
but i am semi-clueless about it. in the past, i've played red, blue, yellow, silver and gold.
a few questions to the general fire red playing populace...
1) are there ruby/saffire pokemon in fire red? i haven't seen any yet.
2) is the storyline more or less the same as in red? what differances are there?
3) any sweet gliches i could take advantage of? like missingno in red/blue and cloning in gold/silver...?
4) anything else i should know?
arigato minna!! heart

Well--other than the basics; you know, build a balanced team, save often, the ol' Nuggets of Poke-wisdom, there are a few shifts you should consider anyhow. It's true that the story and sequence of events doesn't change--much (What do you MEAN you don't wanna lemonade? o.o)--but other things, like attack types, have; and this can lend uses to pokemon you wouldn't think about using before. (Never thought a Rat would take down a big bad onix--bite, thou'rt something to beware of.)
Hnn--there ARE a couple things, of course. Most of the old stuff's in place, but Meowth have Pickup now, so grab one as soon as you can--they're your only consistant source of berries now.

if you get pokemon that are rare with genders, try to get female ones, then you can breed them and trade the babies with friends.

^_^ I'm a MAJOR defender of this game; I loved how they took the best parts of R/S (What I felt the most stagnant games of the series...) and incorporated it into a kind of 'Director's Cut' of the original games; what it really should have meant to be ^_^
In that way; I feel it's more of a collector's game than just the usual playing one; and needs to be felt differently X3
I hope they make more frequent ways to acquire the special tickets; I feel THAT was a silly idea to make; but yes; no glitches lol... I was tired of watching my boxes get whittled away...
I heavily recommend taking the time training ^_^ Going slow and steady...
And then; once you open the R/S portal of trading; send as much as you can slap into your FR/LG!!!! (I went to the Safari Zone 8 times to fish enough Magikarp as trading fodder XD)
Restarting Ruby again was the best thing I've ever done; and I've learnt to enjoy it a little more too :3 Slow and steady people; slow and steady...
After all lol... who actually took one look at Trapinch and used it without looking up a webpage on it? XD

Well, as an owner of Fire Red I have a few things to say. The FR/LG games are nice in the aspect that they remain very true to the origional games while still adding in the new features. The rival in RBGY was SOO much better than any other game sets' rivals. I mean, the boyfriend/girlfriend in Ru/Sa was lame, never even got a reasonably powerfull team or made it to the elite four and spends the rest of the game at their computer "trying to figure out where to catch pokemon next"... stare and you can do weird things in their bed, further cementing the boy/girfriend theory. (allthough you can do the same in Wally's bed...) Then even lamer was the stupid criminal lowlife of a robber in GSC who didn't get anywhere either. In FR/LG your rival kicks a** and takes names, allways getting the badges before you, allways has a better pokedex, beats the eilite four before you becoming the champion AND has a good team in game, one of the best in game teams besides Evice in Colleseum. Plus, team rocket was much cooler in FR/LG than in GSC or Team Aqua and Magma ever were. Then they added stuff like the Fame Checker which I enjoyed completing, wandering around talking to everyone and all the walls and bookshelves again was actually fun.
I also reccomend getting a good hang of the safari zone, cause you are going to want a lucky egg, which is on about 1 in 20 wild chansey in the safari zone and nowhere else but when equiped multiplies that pokemon's XP gain by 1.5! eek No better way to train than having a lucky egg! xd And none of the other games can get that item in game!
The FR/LG pokemon also add alot to the link battling arena for the advanced games for those non-gamesharking types like me. Charizard, eevee forms, gengar, mewtwo, scizor, and more added back into the mix. If there were any way to improve FR/LG without changing the concepts it would have been to add some of the features that are instead coming in emerald such as additional ability effects or true two on two battling in game.
I would reccomend completing everything required to trade with Ru/Sa as fast as possible and to take full advantage of VS seeker for getting in extra experience and take advantage of the newer typing system to beat such enemies as sabrina and take advantage of new moves like false swipe to fill up your pokedex as fast as possible. I can't wait for Emerald, as that will probably easily surpass everything else so far.

yeah, i'm starting to wish my folks had gotten me saffire or ruby for Xmas.
i would love this game to pieces if only i'd never played RYB before, because, of itself, i think the storyline is pretty good. but since i am oerly familiar with all three, fire red is seeming a wee bit too boring and tedious.
but the graphics are suburb and i adore the VS seeker!
thank you all who responded and continue to respond.

[Philosophy In A Teacup] 1. Nope, absolutely no RS Pok魯n. Though, once your Pok鄥x is converted into a NationalDex, a few GSC Pok魯n will appear in various spots of Kanto and Sevii Islands. neutral you can actually get Whynaut if you breed a wobbuffet

As someone who hadn't really touched RBY since GSC made its debut, I really enjoyed the remakes, since by the time RS rolled around the graphics were too painfully nasty on the older games. Plus I could recreate my Dragonite with better moves and catch a lovely Mewtwo again!
I use FR as my Pokemon storage cart, since you have to actually beat the game before trading and as it takes longer, I don't wanna do it all over again. Plus I know pokemon locations better there(for EV training), and the second-round E4 which make it easier to level to 100. It was definitely worth the money I paid for it, in my eyes. 3nodding

well, the braile is back. (you remember the braile from the "lets catch the three regi's!", don't you? well, it's back! however, i translated the braile, and it doesn't say anything of major importance. no clues to any ledgendary pokemon whatsoever! The "lets capture all 26 unown!" is back too! except, with two more! a ! one and a ? one. However, the math doesn't add up..there's what..7 temples? yet there aren't 4 in each! in fact, 2 of the temples only have 1 unown in them! (one for A, the other one for Z). So, i'm still stuck on that)......yah, what fun... gonk
they don't even have the special pokedex for unown! T__T i liked that thingy!

[Philosophy In A Teacup] 4. Like Jinshin said, you really can't do anything exciting until you beat the Elite Four and the Champion. After that, you'll have access to the Sevii Islands, which hold Ho-Oh, Lugia, and Deoxys (though for all three you need to have certain, special Tickets that you could only get through Nintendo events long since past). yah....actually, you only need 2 tickets ...i heard that ho-oh and lugia are on 1 island...and deoxys is on another... but, then the sevii islands can't be the sevii islands...they're the ninii islands....or at least, should be...XD

Jazzfox After all lol... who actually took one look at Trapinch and used it without looking up a webpage on it? XD xd You're right. I didn't use Trapinch 'till I found out that it evolved into Flygon, eventually.
