This is the home of Joshua Baroob. It's a two bed, two bath, two story little farmhouse. If you look at it from the front, it hardly seems to be there at all. Josh's room is actually in the basement. I'm sure you aren't surprised.

Profile
The long, white hallway finally ended up ahead. Josh felt like he had been walking for hours. Beside him, his hot sidekick checked her gun's ammo before reaching for the door.

"Mr. Baroob," A man in a dark suit was walking up the hall behind him, "So good to see you again.

"Oh no, Josh," The hot sidekick muttered, "I thought we lost him when you hit him with a bus."

"How many times do I have to kill you!"

"You know what the best part about being me is?" The man asked. Suddenly, Josh became aware of an entire army of this same man charging up the hall behind him. "The best thing about being me is that you've always got a stunt double."

Josh adjusted his trench coat and sunglasses. "Get to the control room. I'll hold them off."

"But, Josh-"

"I said go!" As hot sidekick threw open the door and ran in, the first of the suited men caught up with Josh. He drew back his first and-

ARRRRNNNN! ARRRRNNN! Josh woke up to the melodious sound of his alarm. He shook his head to clear the haze and discovered he was on the floor surrounded by paper. Taking a few moments to gather up Mrs. Cobb's timeline assignment, he gave it a quick check to make sure nothing was horribly out of place. It looked more less fine, save for the drool spot under "The Spanish Canadian's War." But other than that...

"Wait, Spanish Canadian?" Josh stared at the line for a moment wracking his brain, "Oh, right. Totally in 1988."

"JOSHUA DOUGLAS BAROOB!" Josh jumped as his mom opened the basement door and screamed down, "IF YOU MISS THE BUS TODAY, YOU CANNOT BORROW THE CAR!"

"Oh no..." Josh checked the time, seven thirty-four. He had ten minutes to be outside, clean, and dressed. Hopefully not in that order.

Character Start

User ImageCait rubbed her eyes and stumbled through the gap in the bushes into Josh's front yard. She took a sip of coffee, and exhaled deeply feeling the warm on the unusually crisp morning. She pulled her zipper up a little closer to her chin, and rested her coffee cup on top of her messenger bag and against her hip while she waited for the school bus. Cait looked at her watch, it was 7:35, and there was a loud crash in Josh's basement. She rolled her eyes.

What classes did she have today? Hon Bio, Spanish, Hon English, and Theater class with Jay. Plus, they both had a SAUCY meeting after school. It was unfortunate that Rowena had made it into her spanish class. At least Josh would be there to keep her occupied.... She and Jay would have to work on their final project for theater. A costuming project. In fact, Cait had to tell Jay about the idea she'd had for the project. And how they could use them in the future. Cait took a sip of coffee and looked at her watch. 7:40. The bus would be there in five minutes. Josh had probably overslept again.

Cait turned her attention towards the trees. There were some birds twittering away, which made her grin. The sky was blue, the birds were singing, it was crisp but not too cold, there wasn't a cloud in the sky... The day would be good. It had to be. It was her senior year, she was supposed to enjoy herself. Instead, she was burried under a pile of BTY work from the school off island and she didn't have any free time outside of school to spend with her friends.

Cait looked at her watch and took a sip of coffee. It was 7:43. The bus would be there in two minutes. Cait sighed. If Josh missed school she'd have to skip spanish class. There was no way she was putting up with Rowena all by herself. And Jay had to be silly and take french. When would she ever need french anyway? Cait took a sip of coffee. It was hazlenut mocha with whole cream and 2 sugars in an Expresso Eddies stainless mug. She'd made the coffee herself, but the mug came with her everywhere. It had been a Birthday Present from the owner of the local coffee store because she had been buying coffee from him since her freshman year of high school. Cait looked at her watch. It was 7:44.

The bus pulled up early, and Josh was going to miss it. Again. So she'd miss spanish. Again. If she passed the class it would be a miracle because her attendence was so miserable. Almost as miserable as Josh's. The Yellow Slug pulled up in front of Josh's house and opened it's metal and plastic gaping maw to her. She climbed up the steps and climbed into a seat. She took a sip of coffee. it was 7:45.

The bus driver rolled her eyes as she reached for the horn. Before she could touch it, however, the door to Josh's blew open and Josh half ran, half fell down the front steps. His hair was still wet and his backpack was only half closed, but he made it up onto the bus with a hasty "thank you" and "I'm sorry" to the driver. His momentum still more fall than run, he dropped into an open seat as the bus got underway.

User ImageUser ImageThe bus stopped at 221 Muddle Way, allowing Josh and Penelope to hop off before it roared to the next stop. They hopped up the steps, chatting about nothing of particular significance, and Josh opened the door with a ridiculous flourish.

"Welcome to my humble abode," Josh could barely contain his own smirk and Penelope just about fell over in laughter. They made their way inside, called out a hello to Josh's mom, then headed down into the basement and Josh's room.

"I see you're all ready for company," Penelope snickered, gesturing to the heaps of stuff around the room.

"You'd think you'd never been down here before." Josh made an honest attempt to clean the mess, but only succeeded in moving it around. Shrugging, he plopped himself down on his bed where Penelope had managed to create a livable space. "I'll never understand how guys live like this," Penelope muttered.

"It's quite easy, actually. All you need to do is absolutely no upkeep," Josh answered, more out of habit than any real need to prove something. Penelope didn't seem to notice he had answered, she looked like she was thinking.

Alright, girl, here we go, Penelope tried to psyche herself up. She had been trying to get herself ready for this since her mother had talked her into prom. "Hey, Josh, want to go to prom with me?" Easy, that's all it takes. You can do this...

"Hey, Penelope?" Penelope jolted out of her thoughts and looked over to Josh with the faintest trace of alarm. "Something really weird happened to me last week."

User ImageUser Image"Wow, that is weird," Penelope shook her head at Josh finished his story, "Any idea what caused it?"

"Actually," Josh scooted a little closer, dropping his voice and reminding Penelope what she wanted to ask him. "You remember when I was Captain Cripple, right?"

"How could I not," Penelope laughed, "You've told me that story more times than I could count!"

"Oh." Josh trailed off and looked crestfallen.

"No, but I love it! Please, go on."

"Right. Well Dr. Maverick said the brace was powered by some sort of experimental power cell. What if it did something to me?"

"Well, have you tried calling her?" Josh grinned sheepishly and Penelope laughed. "Of course not."

Josh popped off the bed and pulled his bookcase out from the wall. Behind it, a dent had been cut out of the wall. Josh tugged on one the edges, pulling loose them strangest contraption Penelope had ever seen. It hit the floor with a dull thud.

"I can't believe you wore that thing."

"You get used to it." Josh fiddled with the front plate of the mass of wires and metal until a screen popped out. "Call Dr. Maverick." The screen flickered and a ringing chimed out. It was cut short as a woman's face sprung up on the screen.

"Hello, Josh," She looked to be in her later thirties with wide blue eyes and blond-streaked black hair. There was something in her expression that seemed stressed and frantic.

"Hey, Doctor, I-"

"Since you're getting this message, I'm assuming you've changed your mind and want to proceed with the next stage of testing. I knew you would. Regrettably, that won't be possible. We had to shut down the project. I don't have time to explain everything now, but I need you to turn it off and keep it somewhere safe. Take care, Josh. I hope we meet again." And the screen flickered off.

With his hands trembling, Josh flipped the screen back down and shoved the thing back in the wall. Shaking his head, he pushed the bookcase back into place.

"Well, that was certainly weird." Josh jumped, he had somehow forgotten Penelope was still in the room.

"Yeah... I guess I'll never find out if that was what was causing it..."

"Hey, Josh? Mind if I change the subject?" Penelope swallowed her hesitation with a deep breath. Sure they had just learned some very strange news, but that wouldn't stop her.

"Sure, Penelope, what's up?"

"Josh? Uhh..." Another deep breath, "Doyouwanttogowithmetoprom?"

"What?"

"Doyouwant... Ahem, do you want to go with me to prom?" Penelope looked to Josh, every second ticking like an hour.

((Oh no! Cliffhanger!))

User ImageUser Image"T-to prom?" Josh nearly choked, "W-with you?"

"You don't have to," Penelope ducked her head down.

"No, you just caught me off guard," Josh put his arm around Penelope's shoulder. He hesitated, started to pull it off, stopped again and awkwardly tried to decide what to do. Penelope gave him an incredulous look and leaned back into him.

"You're totally hopeless, you know that?" She sighed, enjoying the moment. "So, will you go with me?"

"I... Sure." Josh shook his head, unsure why he was agreeing to this. "But only because it's you."

"Thank you!" Penelope sat back up and wrapped Josh in a tight embrace. She was so caught up in the moment, she almost didn't see that a few books had floated out of Josh's backpack and were floating in mid-air. The sudden shock brought Penelope (and the books) back to earth. She let go of Josh suddenly, her face bright red.

"What is with you, today?" Josh laughed, "Did you breath in any weird fumes during the lock down last week?"

"Oh, right!" Penelope suddenly remembered Secret. "I mean, no. Listen, I need to run home and tell my mom."

"Right now? Do you want to call?"

"No, I need to tell her personally. I'll see you tomorrow?"

"I could drive-"

"No, I'll walk."

"Okay..." Josh gave Penelope a very confused look as she ran up the stairs and out of the house. "What is up with that girl today?"
Afterwards (Penelope)>>>

After a half hour or so, Josh finally shook himself from his stupor and stood. Between Dr. Maverick's strange message and Penelope's almost stranger behavior, he had move on his mind than he knew what to do with. He decided for perhaps the first time in his life that what he really needed was some fresh air. Jumping to his feet, Josh rushed upstairs to get the keys to the car from his mother.
