The Hovels

Comprised primarily of those less fortunate in the glorious Frostchild society, the hovels serve as a gathering point for the homeless and downtrodden. Though they try to keep in good spirits despite their situation, many are against the government, feeling that it's the result of an oppressive society that has caused them to end up where they are now.

A little dirty, a little musty, but it's a little slice of home in some sort of weird... slimy way.

A snowmobile buzzed onto the scene, and promptly stopped buzzing. The man riding the snowmobile had quickly stopped when he realized that there was in fact, no snow. Snowmobiles are hardly efficient without any snow. Gambion stepped off the snowmobile and onto the ground, for the first time in hours not crunching when he did so.

He almost hated to leave the vehicle here, but it was no good to drive around where there wasn't any snow, so he would have to just let it sit there and come back for it when they left.

He let his cloak fall to the sides a but, sweeping it back over his shoulders to be more of a heavy cape and less of a hindrance to his movement and whatnot. The movement revealed a double barreled shotgun in a holster down his right leg. You know, just in case something bad happened in this pleasant little town they were visiting.

Aiolos buzzed right behind him. He buzzed and buzzed until he realized that there wasn't any snow left- and still, he buzzed, because Aiolos assumed that a snowmobile would work without any snow. This was disproven when he stopped moving. He looked down. Oh. no snow. Aiolos slapped himself in the forehead. Duh.

Aiolos abandoned his vehicle and ran up to Gambion. He didn't feel any remorse for the snowmobile; Walking was easier anyway.

"You seem familiar." He said, looking at the man. He rubbed his chin hairs, "We meet before?" Aiolos frowned, he swore he did somewhere.

Lah came along at a steady speed, turning to avoid the other two and keeping on a full pace.

Only to skid to the same realization the other two had. No snow meant no snowmobile. It also meant it wasn't as cold.

The jacket was unzipped and ready to be dumped in seconds.

As they arrived in the hovels Mozz was quite ecstatic, the lack of snow meant that he could stop riding on what Mozz mentally referred to as ’cy death’. His snowmobile was parked near Gambion’s , and he pressed his hand into the ground whispering ‘flow’ to himself as he did so, causing a small vine of mold to constrict around his vehicle. That should stop anyone from stealing it.

“So" Mozz started as he came up behind Gambion “What have you been up to since we helped Radiant?” He smiled as he kept pace. “It’s seems like forever.”

It felt warmer to him; maybe just talking to a friend does that. The place seemed deserted which was somewhat worrisome. As Gabion drew his weapon Mozz shook himself out of the sentimental. He had come here to help look for the missing population and it was best to be on his guard.

"It's possible, I wouldn't remember though."

He looked around the beat up area, more poor houses and destitute living conditions. Hadn't that guy with the big sword said something about people getting attacked in the poor areas? He hadn't been keeping up with the news very well himself.

He turned to the guy who had parked beside him.
"I took a knock to the head awhile back and can't remember much, so I'm not really sure what I've been doing. I suspect more of the same though."

arrow From Frozen Shanty town.

Joseph jumped off his snowmobile and immediately ripped off the snow jacket and pants combo. A few drawstrings latter and they were balled up and ready to be thrown in his jacket. He was now officially dressed for the warmer climate inside.

"Ok crew." Joseph began tapping at a screened thing on his wrist, "Bringing up a map of Frostschild here, looking for points of interest. There's of course those dome things, and there's a university under one of them. Also a storage silo, maybe it was all in their food. To our south there's a residential sector, may be able to get something from people's homes and all that."

"How many people do we have here, as could probably split up into teams?"

Near the back of the group of people who had decided to speed ahead was Raymond, who had almost decided to remain behind had it not been for a choice few words with one of his employers. Unlike everyone else who had driven their snowmobiles off the snow...Raymond had the foresight to simply stop near the edge of the snow, not too far off from where everyone else had stopped. This left Raymond in a bit of a better spot should they need to ever use these machines again.

"This area doesn't look much better than the last..." he said as he stepped off his vehicle, more gracefully than he had last time. It wasn't as cold as it was back at the last group of crummy buildings, but it wasn't much better either. So with a shrug Raymond opted to keep his coat on, though he let the hood down. Still all he would do is stay near his machine, a little ways away from the others...taking in what the area gave him. He was keeping an eye out, for anything...strange.

Aiolos took a tin flute from his instrument strap and looked wary. He didn't trust the hungry look in the villagers' eyes.

His head twisted back to a familiar voice. Mozz. Someone he knew he remembered! Flaming moss and tornadoes, how could he forget? Aiolos smiled, "Radiant felt like a long time ago... Shame how it came down though." He tooted a note in sympathy in his tin flute.

"Interesting times." He sighed, moving to the right to let Mozz in on their little talking line.

“I see” Mozz nodded solemnly “What about you Aiolos?”

Taking a closer examination of the various beat up homes nothing seemed out of place There didn’t seem to be anything out of place, besides the lack of people. It was all too familiar a thing, cater city had been abandoned too. Whatever had done this was either equally powerful or more so.

"Theres five of us." Mozz called back as he left a house he was examining. "Five of fifteen. At least here that is. There were a few others that haven't made it to this area yet."

"Well, if we're splittin' up..." Whoosh, coat was draped over the snowmobile. Lah kept talking as he got those damn annoying snowpant-coveralls-things off. "I'll go to the Residential District, with whoever or whatever." One leg free, and then Mozz spoke, other leg free. Pants tossed in a heaped mess on the snowmobile, overtop the parka.

"Or maybe not enough people?" He straightened, sitting on the front of his defunct vehicle, looking around at those present.

"Well I think I'm going to head towards the residential place. Seems to me that some survivors might be holed up in the attic of their house or whatnot, and they might be able to tell us a thing or two about what's going on."

He felt kind of bad that he really couldn't join in the chat about Radiant and the group's previous exploits, but from the talk it sounded like he was pretty cool with these two fellows. He probably would have started pestering them with questions about himself, but there were more important things at hand here. That could come later when they were all hanging out in a bar or something.

"Anyone who wants to come with is welcome."

Bzzzt...brrrzzt...bzzt. Eileen was settling into the drive, smiling softly to herself as if imagining something pleasant. Her eyes behind her protective goggles took on that far away look too, and it was clear she wasn't exactly paying attention by the time her snowmobile began reaching the edges of the Hovels.

Brazzt. Braaaaaaaaaazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzwhrrzszzzbraa-kaa-kaaa-kaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnzzz-zzz-zzzkaaaaa....

"...nani...?" Eileen blinked, then frowned. The snowmobile was being given lotsa gas. Why wasn't she going anywhere? And why was it making that sound? She glanced around, then blinked. "oh...we're here..."

braaaaaahkhaannnaaaanaaaan....

"...demo....why aren't I mov---ing." She looked down, and blushed. Her snowmobile had reached the edge of the snow, and though it was trying really hard to go...it wasn't going to be able to. Still crimson behind her layers of winter gear, she turned off her hard-working vehicle, and got up while looking around sheepishly to see how many people had witnessed her silliness.

"There are six of us, seven if you count the girl who hasn't shown up yet." Raymond added in, having done a quick head count back at the last grouping of run down houses. Perhaps they simply hadn't seen him or someone else, but he was a few feet out and out of direct visual range, if only a little bit.

"That means two groups of three...and I'll go wherever, doesn't matter to me." Raymond added, just tossing his two cents into the pile. Well it would have meant two groups of three, but now that their final member had shown up it meant seven total.

"Actually...there are seven of us, so one group of three and one of four."

"...hell."

He unzipped his coat, but otherwise kept bundled up, collar up though now parted, cap puled down still. Strolling in, he'd left his snowmobile off to the side amongst the others in the snow. He would have liked to stash one in the shanty town instead of in plain sight, but with everyone else pulling up here there didn't seem much point.

He looked about the same as before, but for the sour look on his face. He didn't feel the same though.

"Hell, hell, hell, hell, hell, hell, hell, hell-" he muttered under his breath with increasing intensity.

There was that tingle of the Unity ******** HELL magic field!"

He shuddered, and in his agitation stalked right up to a door of a hovel- and kicked it open, storming inside, never mind that he had no weapon drawn.

"Goddamn abandoned, what were you expecting? s**t. Magic field. s**t. Hell."

Hackles up and clearly gone from lazy and calm outside to tight strung in here, he stalked about, knocking other hovel doors open to investigate the area for anything that didn't seem to belong in the poor little settlement.

Everyone else was talking and making decisions, meanwhile, he was busy investigating and cursing.

"-hell!"
