Yesterday, when I decided to re-read the Bad Beginning, something hit me. Well, Mr. Poe's reason for not letting her be their guardian was that they're not related. But, after book the third, all of the guardians have never been stated as relatives. I know if she did become the Baudelaire's guardian it wouldn't be all that unfortunate, but still, a massive plothole has been left. So, do any of you know?

I had thought a lot about that idea as well, she still seems to be about the only one who has a little sense, but I guess it was just so it wouldn't end on a happier note, besides, I'd love to see how this goes with Kit now. *just finished Grim Grotto a couple days ago*

Well I guess Poe never let them because Strauss didn't have a connection with their parents. Anyways, it wouldn't go along well with the grim factor if they were allowed to stay with such a nice person.. if they did Strauss would most likely meet an unfortunate end like Monty and Josephine.

Yeah, he said "related to" their parents, not neccesarily by blood.

Well, perhaps its really that Poe is working for VFD, yet doesn't realize it. Perhaops this entire thing has been carefully watched and things that seem ood are actually on purpose, removing any and all random events.

COULD be a plot hole, but I think it has more to do with each of the gaurdians' connections to the VFD

Mr. Snicket is too smart for plotholes
I say, because she obviously doesn't work for VFD
She is too clueless
Plus, the series would ahve a quick happy ending and the Baudelaires would never learn about VFD

In the books, they say they are related in some way. So techinally its not a plot hole. Its just major confusion. @_@

They would be happy with Justice Strauss, thus the title being false, not a seires, nor unfortunate.

Jehosaphat Yeah, he said "related to" their parents, not neccesarily by blood. Yeah, I agree. All of their guardians somehow knew their parents... For awhile anyway. After the Squalors, I think that Poe just started getting desparate and was willing to put them anywhere. By then, of course, Justice Strauss was out of the picture.

[ Amputated Freckle ] I say, because she obviously doesn't work for VFD But she BECOMES connected with them in TPP, though. Mara Mylenne I think that Poe just started getting desparate and was willing to put them anywhere. By then, of course, Justice Strauss was out of the picture. A good point, to be sure. Perhaps if she wasn't so close to the begining but near the end, imagine his frustration with placing the Baudilaires... theives, murderers, etc. that they are. hee hee hee!

Would they really be better off with Justice Strauss? For those of you that have read TPP, she's practically the root of their problems after TBB. Maybe the series would be a lot shorter and a lot more Unfortunate...
