-Stuck in a Hole...- Manda Well... this was just great. Chiamaka found herself wishing (again) that she was bigger, older. If she was, then she wouldn't have been as likely to get into this fix, and would have been more likely to be able to get out of it again. Even if she had been so stupid as an older lion.
Currently the somewhat scrawy-looking young lion was stuck halfway in and halfway out of a sinkhole in the middle of a sort of bog. She'd been chasing a rabbit... not looking where she was going. Hunger was one way to make the stupidest of mistakes... and it had been days since she'd been able to catch anything really substantial.
Now, she had front claws dug into a kind of grassy 'island', keeping head and shoulders above the sinkhole, but the back half of her body was completely stuck. She'd already all but exhausted herself trying to get out, and now just lay panting... eyes half-lidded ... and hoping that whatever found her first would maybe kill her before making a meal out of her. +Sephiros Immortal+ Ayo'obi was currently roaming...he was on the hunt today, and had managed to snag himself two hares...which was enough to cause the hunger pangs to go away, and he was fairly sure he'd be able to scent out something later on this evening, were he to become particularly hungry. That was about the time that the wind changed direction... Raising his shaggy head, the lion sniffed the air, tail lazily flicking back and forth. Well...it smelled like lion...at least he thought it did. With a rumbling sort of noise, he ambled over in that direction...it had been a while since he'd seen any of his own kind, after all. Manda Chiamaka heard that rumbling sound as the wind changed - though she couldn't scent anything thanks to the smell of the hole she was stuck in. Her only real thought was that something had finally found her and she was all too likely to die now. She knew very well what kinds of things could happen to young lions out on their own... without parents or protectors to look after them. Most ... didn't survive at all past a certain point.
Still, though, she didn't want to die... and bit back a little frightened sound, flattening herself down as much as possible while attempting to keep her hold on the firmer ground. +Sephiros Immortal+ Ayo's sensitive ears caught that sound, however, and it sounded very much like distress. Bounding forward...he stopped suddenly at the edge of that sinkhole...realizing that if he just plowed on in, then he wasn't going to fare any better than the wee lioness that had gotten herself trapped in there. "Ah, miss...?" He called politely, noting that the island wasn't too terribly far...and if he could make it in one leap...then perchance he might be able to haul the lass out of the mire that currently entrapped her. "Are you quite all right?" He hoped she wasn't hurt...or any such thing, as that could gum up the process. Manda Eyes widened at the sight of the male that suddenly appeared, moving toward her at a fairly fast pace - only to stop at the outer edge of the sinkhole. Oooh... he was huge. Or at least he looked so to the smaller lioness. With a little squeak of almost-fright, Chiamaka blinked up at him from where she was stuck. "You're... uhm. You're not planning to eat me, right..?" +Sephiros Immortal+ He eyed her oddly for a moment, before he chuckled low in his throat, "Why no indeed, miss...that would be positively rude of me to go about eating my own kind, don't you think?" Crouching down low, he bunched his hindquarters, preparing to take his chances with getting to that island. "No need to fear...I'm coming right over directly..." With that, he launched himself into the air, sailing over to land gracefully on that grassy little mound in the midst of the sinkhole. Manda Well... of course it would be rude, as well as very unpleasant for her... but... she had heard of lions that did such things. "Oh," she said after a moment, actually looking faintly embarrassed. And then her mouth fairly dropped open at that leap he made - wondering how she was ever going to get out if the sinkhole was that big. She hadn't started to really sink until she was about halfway across it, coming from the other side. And there was probably no way she'd be able to make a jump like that. +Sephiros Immortal+ "There, my dear...now let me give you a hand..." Cautiously leaning over, he delicately took her scruff into his mouth, much as a mother to a cub, and proceeded to haul her out of the muck. Ayo had grown up to be a fine, strong hunter, much as his father had been, and he wasn't at all worried about getting her out. He had an overabundance of confidence that he could carry her over in some form or fashion. She was, after all, still a wee youngling yet. Manda Dangling from his jaws now, Chiamaka couldn't help but be impressed by the older male's strength - and very, very glad he didn't plan to eat her, or do anything else to hurt her. Twisting head as she attempted to look up at him, she murmured, "Thank you... I don't know what I'd do if you hadn't come along..." A bit late, but she was making an attempt to be polite, now that the situation wasn't quite so dire as before. +Sephiros Immortal+ He set her down beside him for a moment, so that he might answer her question, a grin spreading across his face. "'Tis no trouble...t'wouldn't do to leave a little sprout like you stuck like that...how did you get yourself stuck in such a predicament, miss?" Tilting his head, the lion's green eyes were friendly...alive, as he really did enjoy conversation and company, he simply didn't get it often. Manda Ducking her head a bit, she replied, "Well... I was chasing this rabbit. And it ran this way, then across here... I guess it was too light to sink in. But I wasn't paying attention and well... you know the rest." She really was rather embarrassed about the whole thing. Even though she was still young, she'd been on her own most of her life and she should have known better than to go running around without watching the ground in a bog of all places. +Sephiros Immortal+ Ayo nodded slowly, "Well...you're young enough that such mistakes won't hurt provided you live through them...live and learn, miss." Cocking head to one side, he smiled and introduced himself, "My name is Ayo'obi, but my friends call me Ayo...and what, perchance, is your name, little lady?" She was a delightful enough youngster, and she seemed to be all on her own...tough for such a small female. Manda Thinking about that for a moment or two... the small female decided that he was right. She certainly wouldn't make this particular mistake again, oooh no. "I'm Chiamaka...been on my own for a while, now," she replied, offering a small smile. She was still filthy from sinkhole and more, underfed and very tired... but somehow, this Ayo seemed like a nice guy - and made her smile. +Sephiros Immortal+ "Chiamaka...what a pretty name...and a lovely meaning to it as well." He nosed at her slightly, "Now how about we see about getting you cleaned up...and I don't think dinner would go amiss either, do you?" He had a soft spot for younglings and females, and this lass was both...and she seemed a nice little critter that had simply had a hard time of it, so he didn't at all mind. Manda Letting out a little purr at the thought of being clean again... not to mention food... Chiamaka leaned into the nosing just a bit. "Sound absolutely wonderful," she murmured - having determined in the last few moments that Ayo was most definitely now her hero. +Sephiros Immortal+ "A'right...hold on then, lass..." And with that, he picked her up again, much as he had to get her out of the mire...crouched to prepare for a mighty spring, and then sailed across the sinkhole with nearly as much grace as he had without Chiamaka in tow...to set her down gently on the other side. "Better?" Manda Chiamaka squeaked softly when he jumped, squeezing eyes shut for a moment - only to find herself being set down again seconds later... safe now, and out of the sinkhole entirely. "Ah, yes! Very much," she said, turning to look up at the older lion with a smile. "Thank you again... " +Sephiros Immortal+ He purred at her, nudging the smaller lion in the direction of the nearest oasis. "Mmm...my pleasure, Chiamaka...now...shall we go for dinner and a bath, my lady?" He said lightly, a bit of a teasing note to his tone as he bounded off at a leisurely pace towards where they wanted to go. Well...this promised to be the start of an interesting sort of adventure... Manda With a grin, Chiamaka nodded wordlessly and then took off after him - able to mostly keep up despite being smaller than Ayo was, and less healthy, overall. At any rate, it looked as if things were going to get better from here, so she was happy.

Chiamaka - Owned by Manda
Phye'li - Owned by +Sephiros Immortal+
Ayo'obi - Owned by +Sephiros Immortal+
-----------------------------------
Ayo had spent several hours out hunting, not realizing how fast the time had been going until the sun was quite nearly below the horizon. He had taken down a young antelope that had strayed from the herd, and it was more than big enough for the red lion and his young charge. Dragging it along to where he'd left the little lioness, he only hoped that nothing had happened to Chiamaka in his absence. He was quite nearly there, when he noted that there was...someone else there as well, though he couldn't tell just who due to the fading light. Breaking into a trot, he made a beeline for cub and lioness...and then suddenly...eyes went wide. It -couldn't- be...could it?
Having strayed close to the edge of the trees by that point, Chiamaka was the first to spot Ayo coming back and she bounded out toward him with a wide grin. "Hey you're back, you're back!" she called, eyes widening at the antelope - which was much bigger than anything she had a hope of catching currently. "Wooooow and you got a big one! OH. And your mom is here, she kind of found me at total random, isn't that cool?"
Ayo stopped in his tracks, putting his prey down and smiling at her, glancing from his mother, to the purple-coated lioness in front of him. Well...he hadn't though that his mother would leave home...especially not just to look for him, but he couldn't deny that he was glad to see her. "Well I see that...have you been taking good care of my mother for me?" He inquired, bumping Chia playfully with his nose before moving to greet the other lioness properly.
Phye'li practically beamed at her son, "Hello, Ayo..." Rising to her feet, she licked his muzzle in that affectionate, motherly way. "I see you've been taking care of yourself and the little one besides."
"Yea... though she had to uhm. Help me down out of a tree at first. But that didn't take long!" Chiamaka said, sitting down to watch the two of them. A part of her ... really kind of wished that she remembered her own mother. But then again, if she had stayed with her parents, she might not have ever met Ayo at all.
The male chuckled, bemused, "And I suppose I should ask just how you wound up in that tree?" He knew that Chiamaka could be a little skittery at times, but that was simply due to her upbringing...or lack of it. One had to be careful, all alone out in the rogue lands. Green eyes swiveled then, to his mother, "And...what -are- you doing here, mother?" He asked softly.
"Well...I'm finally getting out to explore...to meet new creatures and do what I did not do as a child." She replied quietly, "I have no family to tie me down, and you and your brother and your father have chosen their own way." Bobbing her head, she lay down in the grasses and dirt, apparently tired.
Chiamaka turned at that, trotting over to lick at the older female's ear in a sort of comforting manner. She'd sounded... kind of lonely when she said that - and even though Chiamaka's young age allowed her to look past most of that, she still understood the feeling all too well herself. "Well, at first, your mom startled me so ... I climbed up there in case she was something -else- that wanted to eat me," Chiamaka answered the question then, smiling. It -had- been sort of clever, she thought... maybe.
"Aaah, I see...well if something attacks you, by all means do it again, just ensure it isn't something that can follow you up, Chia." He advised, smiling sympathetically at his mother, a smile which widened at the youngster's thoughtful action toward his parent. "And...I think I understand, mother...and I wish you luck in your endeavors."
Phye'li responded by nuzzling at the smaller female, "Yes...and you in yours...it seems you have a very nice friend to accompany you in your travels." However, she rather thought that her son had best watch out when the little one matured...he was in for trouble of the feminine persuasion.
"Oh, I will!" she replied quickly, happy that Ayo thought it had been a good idea. She had felt sort of silly at the time, but surely if something Phye'li's size had -wanted- to attack her, it couldn't have gone up the tree after her. So it had been a good idea, after all.
Ayo nodded, "I do at that..." Idly drawing patterns in the dust with his paw, he eyed the two females. "So I assume you'll be staying the night, mother?"
Phye'li nodded, yawning slightly, "I'm too tired to continue tonight, and I want to spend some time with you regardless..." And she'd like to acquaint herself with Chiamaka as well, as it seemed she too was now a facet in Ayo's life.
"All right...who's ready for dinner?" He inquired lightly, slipping to his paws to move over to the antelope that he'd brought from his hunt, which apparently had been successful.
"Oh, me, me!" Chiamaka burst out, boucing up to her own paws and following the older lion over toward said antelope. But something in her restrained the small female from immediately pouncing on the offered food, instead pausing for a moment and waiting for Phye'li to come over as well.
Phye'li rose gracefully, following them over to where dinner currently was. Sitting down on her haunches, she looked expectantly over to Ayo. This was his kill...and he was the leader of this odd little 'family' and thus, he was in charge.
Ayo, noting the deference, smiled sheepishly. "Well, ladies, dinner is served..." He would defer to them, though he could have easily demanded his portion first. He was simply a gentleman, and though not at all a weakling, he felt it the proper thing to do to be polite. This was indeed his family, and he would care for them...treat them as such, for as long as it was his responsibility.

Kimeta'Inkawu - Owned by Teh Zan
Ayo'obi - Owned by +Sephiros Immortal+
-----------------------------------
To be so far from home, was something of a novelty. Ayo'Obi had always envied his one and only sibling, his brother who looked not a thing like him. In his personal opinion, he had gotten the worst of his parents physical traits and none of their positive ones. So suffice to say, he'd needed to get out of the house for a little while. He'd taken off at a breakneck pace, little paws thumpety-thumping as they hit the ground, stirring up dust and causing small animals to flee in mindless terror in the lion's wake. There was something vaguely satisfying about that. Finally, however, he had gotten tired of running, and slowed, finding himself one of the scraggly trees that dotted the grassy landscape. Flopping down ungracefully beneath it, he yawned, baring sharp teeth in his exhaustion. Well...that had been wonderful but where on earth was he now?
That was all fine and dandy with Kimeta'Inkawu. If the world wanted to 'throw him to the wolves' so to speak, let it. He was used to being tormented... and lost. He remembered the days when he could find his way home, the days when Kura made fun of him... or when he'd played with that girl. Somehow, it had slipped beneath his paws and was lost like sands of time. Steadily the Glitter Monkey got older with time, but didn't change much. Simply he was bigger, fuzzier and more concerned about dirt than he'd previously been. So in this huge expanse, when he saw a tree that would be a spot to sit and groom himself, he headed for it, feeling more alone than ever. Lo and behold, his prayers for a companion was answered as he got closer. Sitting under the tree was a lion of the deepest red hue yawning. Kimeta was captivated by the color. It was such a beautiful red that he'd never seen. So at a slower pace, cursing himself for the dirt in his mane, he went closer to the juve under the tree. There he stopped, nervously. He was never ever good, and when he got a closer look he was about to run off scared and carefully back up a bit. His paws scuffed the ground and he looked at them unsatisfactorily. They were disgustingly dirty, in his opinion. His eyes flit back up to the other, hoping he wasn't gonna be in trouble.
Green eyes blinked owlishly at the newcomer as he approached. This lion was quite obviously older than he was by a significant margin, but that mattered little to the juvenile, he'd always been more comfortable around those older than himself. Feeling too complacent to rise to his feet, a smile spread across his maw and his tail flicked to and fro in the dust behind him. "Hullo there!" He greeted, raising one dark red paw in greeting to the other male. He'd met little to no hostility in his young life, and it was lucky that Kimeta was no threat, or Ayo'Obi might have been in a very large amount of trouble.
Nearly falling backwards at the raised paw, he calmed down a considerable bit. It was definately a good thing that he was a lot more controlled than he'd previously been. Moving to sit himself under the shade, he meticulously began grooming his mane as is eyes watched the other. "Hello..." It really had been so long, his voice came out as a squeak. Still so grown up looking with a squeaky girlish voice. That was typical Kim.
Looking up at the other, he resisted the temptation to laugh softly at the very odd voice coming out of such an obviously adult male. "Nice to meet you..." Ayo trilled, supposing that it was simply the polite thing to introduce himself. "I'm Ayo'Obi, and who might you be?" He thought that Kim was something of an odd one, but who was he to judge? Ayo and his family might be the odd ones and Kimi might be positively normal in comparison.
"Oh..." He looked up from his preening and grooming session, having looked back down immediately after he'd said hello. He was not good at this, not at all. Others were so very foreign to him recently after his problems. "I'm... Kimeta'Inkawu..." He flushed profusely, hoping the other wouldn't know what it meant. He always got made fun of. Once he was clean though, he sat up straighter looking positively kingly.
Ayo really hadn't a clue what that meant, and so didn't comment. "'Tis an impressive name." He said, nodding sagely, as it did sound such. The juve rolled over onto his side, pawing at the dust for a moment, before rolling all the way over and clambering to his feet, shaking himself off a bit. "Do you live around here?" Already he was concocting a way to shorten the other's name, as Kimeta'Inkawu was a mouthful.
Monkey's tail flicked back and forth as he pondered the situation. The other's color was something lovely to look at and he couldn't help but wonder where he'd developed such a deep berry red. He looked almost edible, though Kimmy would share this thought with no one. Matting down his mane with a paw one final time, he shook his large head, "No. I ...go lost..." Using a lot of willpower, he kept his head up, though it was difficult.
That prompted a sheepish laugh from the younger lion, and he rubbed at his ear with a paw, "Er...I sort of did the same thing, though I'm not too terribly far from home, and I know the...general direction I'm supposed to go in. Where do you live then? And...do you have a nickname? Something your friends call you? No offense but that impressive name of yours is reaaaaaaaally really long."
It was now Kim's turn to laugh. "The only thing people call me is Glitter Monkey... I don't have friends... my parents call me Kim though." He just got girlier by the second. Glitter? Kim? Geeze, even his voice was feminine. He was even lacking manly forwardness. He gave the other an awkward smile, hoping he was more trustworthy than Kai had been.
The younger cocked his head sharply to one side, confused by that, "Glitter Monkey? That's an odd nickname...Kim?" Well that was more feasible, and seemed to fit this fellow a bit better. "That's not bad at all, do you mind if I call you Kim?" Taking a couple of steps forward, he sat down across from the other, not minding the differences in height. Frankly, the word that came to his mind in reference to the other was cute...but was that a proper word to use for a grown-up?
"...of course..." He said strangely, as if he'd never been asking his preference on an opinion before. And perhaps he really hadn't. He was such a strange lion that it seemed possible. The other was a bit shorter, but that didn't bother Kimmy either. Height never said much about anyway. And if Kim had ever known Napoleon, he probably would've used him as an example. No matter though. "...M-may I call you Ayo then?"
"Sure!" There was an emphatic nod of assent from the younger lion. "Why're you so nervous?" He inquired without much diplomacy, tail swaying back and forth like a pendulum behind him. "I'm not going to bite'cha." Ayo showed the other a disarming sort of grin, trying to assure Kim that his intentions were indeed entirely friendly and that he didn't have to worry about the little male being hostile towards him in any way. Not that Ayo was much of a threat, Kimmy being so much bigger than himself.
"Oh... well... you'd be surprised how many times... I've uhm... been bitten actually..." He gave a small smile, wondering if it was really such a smart idea to share with this other lion. Of course, friends needed trust, even new ones, and Kim did so desire new friends! Or any friends!
Ayo scowled, "Well that wasn't very nice...why'd someone bite you?" He seemed rather outraged by the idea. Kimmy didn't look as though he was capable of hurting a fly, and even if he did he certainly didn't act like it. The red juvenile liked this new fellow thus far, and was eager to claim him as a friend...Ayo's first, outside of his own family, that is.
"You don't know?" Kimmy seemed incredulously shocked by this fact. Someone who didn't really see how girly he truly was? It was new to him and the other lion was gaining his trust by the seconds. Hopefully, it wasn't all a lie, like the rest of his life. He figured if it was the world really did hate him.
"Whaddya mean I don't know?" He inquired, tilting his head in obvious confusion. Yes, Kimmy was a little odd, but that wasn't any reason in Ayo's book for him to be bitten by anyone...from what he could tell, the other lion was quite personable...and definitely nice to talk to. "I don't see any reason to bitcha."
"I'm not... like them... I don't... pounce and growl and get my paws dirty. That's just... disgusting." There was a visible shudder and a moment's hesitation as he checked his own paws to make sure he was clean and fresh looking. He cared quite a lot about his looks and he didn't like to mess them up my romping around in the dirt. "I'd rather sit and stay clean..."
His ears flicked...once, twice, "Then I guess that means you aren't the type for wrestling and stuff, huh?" It wouldn't appear so, but then...there was nothing wrong with that either, was there? "What do you like to do then, Kimmy?" He inquired, tail lashing back and forth. Ayo wanted to find something that he could do with this new friend...something interesting and fun!
"...I don't know... I never really do anything..." The gorgeous silken brown and black maned lion replied. Young though he was, and odd though he was... he seemed to get odder by the moment. It was awkward to deal with him, but still interesting for he never seemed short of wishing for something worthwile in his life. Although he didn't like to dirty his paws, perhaps he would do so for the chance to stir up his boring and frightening life that he had trouble living.
Padding up to the other, he bumped the other's shoulder with his head, not quite playful, but more almost a fond motion, "Well do you like to go walking? Or perhaps bathing, do you mind getting wet?" There was a little stream a ways from here...that he knew of...and sometimes he would go there to splash his paws. He never ventured beyond that, however, as his mother had grimly warned him that such a thing was dangerous.
"No I don't mind getting wet. Bathing and walking are about the only things I really enjoy..." He gave a playful grin, flicking his ears back a little. It was odd to be so close with someone, if only for a moment.
Oh! Well that could be splendid. Bouncing on his paws, he grinned toothily up at the other lion. "There's a little stream that's a teensy ways walk from here, wanna go?" It would be something that he could do with this new friend of his, and they'd both enjoy it...and Ayo could show Kimmy around...it seemed a peachy proposition to the younger lion.
It was cute, he thought, watching the other hop upon his paws like that. He'd forgotten the goodness of company and nodded. "I'd like that," he replied. He felt a bit braver than usual and was comforted by Ayo's presence.

Aziza - Owned by Kamileunaire
Ayo'obi - Owned by +Sephiros Immortal+
-----------------------------------
It was one of Ayo's lazy days. He'd managed to get up enough energy to go out and get himself a rabbit, which he was currently toting back, carrying it in his mouth. The little rascal had been speedy, but in the end, all that mattered was that he'd caught the wee devil, and the bunny was now lunch. Tired and thirsty now, the large red lion took a detour towards the water hole nearby...he needed a drink and NOW, thank you.
The female had been having bad luck lately, and was sorely wishing for a bigger kill. Usually, due to her shadowy coloration, the lioness tended to hunt at night, but today hunger pushed her to venture out during the daytime hours. She skulked towards the water hole, knowing that plenty animals gathered there both day and night.
It would just so happen that the two would arrive at approximately the same time. Raising his head to sniff the wind, he carefully set his kill down, and padded down to the water to fetch himself a drink, all unknowing that he wasn't the only one there. Ayo could be terribly unconscious of his surroundings sometimes.
Aziza, ever vigilant, narrowed her eyes, arriving downwind of the male. His scent caused her fur to bristle slightly as she stepped out into the open, watching him go to the water's edge for a drink. She slunk out herself, eyes glued as she lowered her dark head to have a drink, tail flicking and betraying her slightly irate mood.
Instantly, his head snapped up, surprised to see another lion about, much less a lioness. "Hello, miss...lovely day isn't it?" he inquired lightly, able to tell she wasn't in the best of moods, but wanting to start out politely, as that was the right sort of thing to do, after all.
Aziza remained slightly bristled, though the polite greeting helped her calm a bit. She looked over at him solemnly and gave a bit of a shrug, doing her best not to glare. "I suppose. It's lovely when you can get something to eat." she grumbled, hardly paying attention to the food he had caught. She didn't want something small...she wanted to catch something much bigger.
Ayo's ears swiveled, canting his head to one side and blinking at her. "Ah, have you been having trouble on the hunt?" He inquired. After all, as a male, if a lioness was having trouble finding prey that she wanted to take down, then it was his bound duty to help her, was it not?
Aziza growled softly to herself, claws digging into the soft dirt at the edge of the water. "Somewhat...but I'm going to catch something today. Animals are always coming around to the water hole." she said, glaring across the water at the prey animals mulling about. Mostly water buffalo, which were too large for her to take alone, but she was sure she might be able to find zebra or gazelle nearby.
Ayo noticed her determination, and then cleared his throat slightly. "I passed a herd of gazelle not far from here, if you'd like to give those a try." He suggested, more than willing to help with her hunt, if she so chose. He could chase the prey into her waiting grasp, noting that she probably wanted to bring down the meal herself.
"I will." she said, half-expecting him to offer help. It was almost tempting, but if she let him help it would be almost expected that she share, which she didn't really feel like doing. She turned to slink past him. "Thanks a bunch." she said, and disappeared into the grass to try for a successful hunt.
With a rueful sigh, the lion plunked himself down by the water, a little dismayed at how quickly she had left. Well…that didn’t give him much time to do anything or get to know her at all now did it? How completely unfair…

-----------------------------------
All right, so the lioness had left, he could deal with that. Sitting on the bank of the water hole, he eyed the rabbit that he'd abandoned, and then realized that he was bored. Heaving a sigh, he turned and trotted off where he'd seen the lioness disappear. Helping her with her hunt had to be more exciting than just sitting around here nibbling on a rabbit. He wasn't even that hungry anyway.
Aziza trotted through the grass, head lifted just enough to scope out the choices she had. And there were plenty. There always seemed to be plenty of animals around the water, and she felt silly for not having thought of it sooner. She slunk down and began to move toward the gazelles, wondering if they were the same ones the lion had spoken of.
Noticing where she had taken up position, Ayo sneaked his way around to the opposite side, knowing that if he made any sort of noise, the gazelles would instinctively head Aziza's way. She couldn't be too angry with him if she didn't know he was here, right? With a grin, he made a low, rumbling, growling sound, causing the gazelle herd to start moving away from him in alarm.
The dark lioness blinked in confusion as the creatures started to move her way. She had already gone into hunting mode, her body close to the ground, movements stealthy as could be. It was confusing, but whatever had caused it she would take advantage of it. The preybeasts practically ran right into her, and she leapt up when they were within her range, quickly dragging a smaller one down to the ground, and killing it swiftly. When the deed was done she sat down, panting lightly and glancing about, wondering what had spooked them. She hadn't even heard Ayo's growling over the noise of the animals themselves.
When he saw she'd made her kill, a delighted smile spread over his face and he trotted out from his hiding spot. "Oh good! You got one! Congratulations!" He sat back from her kill, however, not intending to infringe on it in any way. He didn't want her food, he'd merely helped her out of what he felt was a gentlemanly obligation. She seemed the 'do it yourself' sort of lass.
Aziza bristled up again as he came out into her view, a growl rising up in her throat. She stood up, posture stiff. No...this one wouldn't try to steal it. "I suppose you think you're entitled to part of the kill then, don't you?" she said, resisting the urge to chase him off. That would be foolish, however, since he -had- helped. She waited for his reply, licking at the blood clinging to her muzzle and whiskers.
Ayo wrinkled his nose. "No indeed. I've eaten earlier, and so I'm not really too hungry. The rabbit I had before was merely a snack, Miss. I know you must think me odd, I haven't even introduced myself. I'm Ayo'obi...but Ayo's much simpler." Sitting down on his haunches, he politely waited for her. It would be nice to let her finish eating before he started any more 'getting to know you' talk.
"Hnnn. Are you sure? You helped..." she said, voice grumbling lowly. When he sat down she began to lap at the bite marks she had left on it's neck, before starting to tear it open hungrily, though her ears were perked to listen to his response.
"Even if I were to partake of your kill, I wouldn't touch it until you were through." He insisted, scooting down to lie with his belly to the grass, just watching her. Ayo would wait patiently until she was done with her meal before furthering the conversation, or asking for her name.
"Fine then...Many thanks for your assistance, Ayo'obi." she said, watching him through sharp eyes as she looked up from her meal. "My name is Aziza." she said, and continued to eat, watching him for a moment as she ate. He wasn't bad as far as males went. She had a general distrust of them, mostly because a lot of them tried to 'liberate' her kills or chase her off of their territory. "You part of any prides around here?" she asked curiously, tail flicking.
He shook his shaggy head, "No. This is rogue lands...most here are wanderers, such as myself. I'm assuming you are the same, Aziza." He rolled the name experimentally over his tongue. "Were you looking for a pride?" If she was, he knew of several that were connected to the rogue lands, not necessarily what she was after, but...all the same.
"True, but they aren't too horribly far away." she mused. She'd never met a lion from a pride but she passed through their territories occasionally. She'd met plenty of rogues though, and she could barely remember the last time one had been so polite to her. She made a little face at the question, and shook her head. "Not really."
"I see...so you prefer things this way." It wasn't really a question, and going quiet, Ayo rested his head on his forepaws, content to let her finish her meal, as he kept interrupting it to have her answer his questions. Perhaps afterwards...they might walk, talk, and share stories...as Ayo always enjoyed learning about others....especially a pretty female.
"Yeah. Mostly, anyway." she said with a huff, frowning lightly. "It's not so hard, but strangers out here aren't always the friendliest." she said between bites, careful not to talk with a full mouth. It felt silly enough having a chat with her front covered in blood, but she was hungry. "I do well enough on my own." she confirmed, sitting up for a moment and glancing about, making sure the area was still clear of other predators.
Ayo nodded, "Understandable. Though fortunately I haven't met any who were too terribly unfriendly. Some were merely...unpleasant..." Like that very odd female who had thought he was so very far below her...she'd been pretty, but a definite oddball. "Don't worry, Aziza...I'll keep watch while you eat." Pushing himself to his feet, he resolved to keep a sharp eye out until she had finished.
"Sometimes others take pleasure in chasing me off of my kills, but that hasn't happened in a long while." she said, eyes half closed in irritation at the thought. She had become much better at avoiding trouble, however, and she could sometimes even ward off competition by aggressive means. She blinked a little at the offer, and watched him leave as she continued to eat. "Thank you, Ayo..."

Aziza - Owned by Kamileunaire
Ayo'obi - Owned by +Sephiros Immortal+
-----------------------------------
Some time after dinner... he played the gentleman, and invited her for a walk to just...'walk it off' as it were. In truth, it was merely a ploy to get to know her better. He did have a certain attraction to lovely females of her caliber, and he knew she was now fainting flower, and that somehow attracted him. "Have you lived in the pridelands all your life, Aziza?" He inquired courteously, definitely curious.
Aziza agreed to go, forcing herself to be nice. It wouldn't be fair to be so nasty to him, even if his nosiness was rather annoying to her. He was also refreshing, though she would never admit that. "Almost...." she said, ears pinning back. "What about you?"
"About the same. I was born and raised here by my mother...do you remember your family at all?" It was carefully said, so that if she didn't want to answer it, she didn't have to. Didn't want to be intrusive after all.
"My mother raised me a long ways from here...I don't remember where, really." she said, tail flicking lightly. "Then I came here when I was old enough. " she said, not revealing all too much. She'd never been the one to open up to strangers all at once, no matter how friendly they happened to be.
"So it was your choice...to roam that is?" It seemed a strange one for a lady, but perhaps not one such as Aziza quite clearly was. She was nice enough, but clearly...didn't particularly LOVE his company like some of the other lionesses had. But...it was good to talk to someone all the same.
"Yes, it was." she said, sighing a bit. She didn't think it was so strange. Other cats roamed alone, afterall. Leopards, cheetahs. Even male lions. It was a bit embarrassing to have run into the male on a bad week, since she was usually quite competent at catching enough food.
Ayo really had no choice in the matter but to respect the decision she had made. She struck him as a rather independent creature, and he pitied any male that would try and tame her for good. "How long do you plan to stay in this area?"
"I dunno. I used to be staying in an area further from here but this water hole is a nice prey spot." she mused, tail giving a flick. "Do you live around here?" she asked, glancing over at him. She assumed so, but perhaps he was always on the move. Usually she stayed in one spot for a while, but moved from time to time to find better hunting, or a change in surroundings.
He nodded. "For the most part. The hunting is good, and there's water nearby. I run about far less than I used to, and there's even a bit of a cave that I use to get out of the weather...would you like to see?" Ayo was very proud of his little home.
She nodded her agreement. She would probably try to find some trees or something nearby to use as shade during the day and stay for a while. Blinking at the offer, she shrugged. "I suppose. Lead the way." she said, and yawned a bit. She didn't have anything better to do.
Ayo dipped his head, "This way, madam." He said grandly, and traipsed off to what he currently called his home...quite pleased that she would be with him for a little while longer, as he was enjoying her company.
Heaving a little sigh, she followed his lead, trailing in his pawsteps to see this home of his, though what sort of cave he might live in in the Savannah she dared not guess. Typical males and their egos.

Kimeta'Inkawu - Owned by Teh Zan
Ayo'obi - Owned by +Sephiros Immortal+
-----------------------------------
It had been a long day for Ayo'obi. He had just left Shani...as she had finally resolved to set out on her own, to find a place for herself in the world, and as much as he had been fond of her, he knew that her place wasn't with him. No, instead...they both had to find their own way, and discover what their destinies were...walking different paths. Heaving a great sigh, the red lion traipsed his way downhill...heading towards one of the various waterfalls in the area. It would be nice to relax, get a drink...gods how long had it been since he'd been by himself again?
With every passing day, it seemed to get more and more lonely, until the Pridelander began to doubt the existence of anyone else. Long ago he had submit himself to a life of seclusion. There seemed to be nothing else left for him anywhere. He had lost track of his family, any friends he might have ever had... and just about everyone. Lonliness. True loneliness, was nearly unbearable. So much so that he found it difficult to go on. The once proud and peppy lion had lost all his vigor. The shining coat he once kept spotless was frayed and ragged. To say the least, he looked tired, sitting there by the pond at the bottom of a waterfall. Staring at his reflection, he dipped a large chocolate brown paw into the water and managed a very meager smile, ears flicking back in slight distaste.
Ayo's ears pricked as he approached the water, raising his head to take a sniff at the breeze with a whuffling sound. There was someone else here...and the scent was somehow familiar to him. Padding forward, he bent his head to the water, lapping at the liquid for a moment, before his eye caught on something further down the bank. Straightening, he then trotted in that direction, careful now. "Hullo?" He called to the other lion, wondering...just why the smell was one he knew.
Lost in his own mind, the other lion near the waterfall did not catch the scent of anyone else. Seemingly instead, his nose had long since dulled to the smell of any one else like him. Pulling his paw from the water, he bent his head back to look at the sky as he sat down. Then... a voice... strange. A sound. Familiar, but not so much. For a moment, he looked about in confusion and then his eyes widened as he saw the other just a short distance away. Lowering his head in submissive fear, he backed away slightly. But... yes... that smell. A lion? Like him? His ears perked up, "Who are you?"
Tilting his head, the great red lion eyed the other for a long moment. A memory drifted up...a fragment of the past, and he frowned. Surely it couldn't be! Not like this... "Kimmy?" He inquired softly, hoping that he was right and not making a complete fool of himself. "I...it's Ayo...remember? We met when I was little." When he'd been far younger than this, just a little imp grown out of cubhood.
"Ayo..." He tried the name out on his tongue, thoughtfully, and then golden eyes widened and he pounced forward, coming muzzle to muzzle with the other lion and staring at him. "It's... ....wow..." He pulled back, looking meek and gave a small nervous smile as his tail waved along the ground in a twitching motion. "You've grown..."
Ayo smiled then, glad that the other remembered him at all. "Yes...I have..." He nosed at the other playfully. "Haven't seen you in a good while...how has life been treating you..." Green eyes surveyed the other, "Doesn't seem like...it has been, too terribly well..." Goodness gracious, had Kimmy been living alone all this time?
Unused to the contact, he recoiled immediately, and crouched low to the ground in a moment of fear. Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic. Disgusted and embarassed, he sat up trying to be his old regal self. But for the life of him... he just couldn't pull it off the same anymore. There was a low and almost sarcastic sound to his chuckle, "No... definitely not... you've been better I hope?"
Ayo made a sad little sound, "Sorry...I...have been all right. I've been traveling with a young lioness named Chiamaka and an older lass named Shani lately. Chiamaka I've raised since she was barely bigger than a cub and Shani and I became good friends...but she's gone now...so it's just I and Chia...and she's off on the hunt currently. I...Kimmy...would you mayhap like to travel with us? We're an odd little family, its true...but...you're my friend...and..." He grimaced, "I don't like to see you like this...it's unfair to you."
"I..." the glitter monkey paused in thought. Looking back to the water that was right next to him, he repeated Ayo's grimace with a hint of deep disgust. Was he afraid? Perhaps. But more so... he hated himself right now. He'd lost everything and had nothing to offer... and now a random lion from his past was showing up and offering him the chance of a lifetime. He deeply resented the idea though... other lions? They would tease him. If it was just Ayo, that would be fine. Anyone else might be hazardous. Especially for one such as him. "I... I don't know..." he finished with a sigh, casting his shimmering eyes downward with a dull scuffing of his paws on the ground.
"Why not?" He inquired, canting head to one side. "You'd practically be family. I've been wandering ever since I became an adult, and Chia...is an orphan...or something like it. She's a sweet little girl. I taught her how to hunt...she was terribly skinny when I found her, but she'll be all right. Still a little skittish, but I can't imagine her not getting along with you." Ayo ducked his head, so that he could look up at the other. "You're my friend, Kimmy...one of my first friends...I want to ensure you're all right."
Kimeta'Inkawu turned away from the other, and looked more deeply into the water now, sinking down to the edge in grief. The tip of his paw played in the stream, making ripples and then his ear flickered in thought. "We were friends... then I had no one... it doesn't make sense to want to be with me now..." There was simply no will and no comprehension anymore.
Ayo sighed softly. "I was young...impulsive...I didn't know any better, you know? You were a friend, and I just thought I'd see you again, and as it turned out, I didn't. I'm an adult now...and I hope more responsible." He made a rumbling sound, "Things are different for both of us...and I...wish to do you a favor."
Sounds, so many sounds. The rushing water, the other's voice, the thumping of his heart. Curling about himself with his ears pressed down as flat as possible against his thick black mane, he watched the other as he spoke. Sincere. "I..." Could he say it? The truth? "...I'm... afraid..."
Ayo smiled sadly, a sympathetic sort of expression. "We all are sometimes...I know I have been...many times in the past. It's just a part of life. The most important thing is to surmount that fear...overcome it and move on with your life..." And he wanted Kimmy to do that...to come with him.
"For what purpose Ayo?" the other returned half-vicious and half-hasty. It couldn't be explained. No one would understand. He was an outcast, no matter what. If he got back into his normal feminine way of doing things, surely the other (wiser now) would reject him. He was girly at heart... not normal even. Not worth the time.
"To be a companion and friend...to journey with us and to learn with us...to experience life...to abolish your solitude. I just..." His ears drooped a bit, and he sat down on his haunches. "You were so kind to me...Kimmy...and I was so happy to have a friend when I met you...you're -still- my friend."
Foolish. Foolish. Could this possibly get anymore foolish? Glimmering golden eyes fell upon Ayo, peering for some kind of justification. Fear and pride, what little was left, was holding him back from this chance. He'd thought himself alone, thought all lions dead, and thought himself friendless and familyless. Yet here, an old friend, perhaps not his most beloved, was showing up and offering a chance that he just didn't know how to take. "Ayo..." He muttered and then shook his head, looking away, "I..." he tried to think about how he'd feel if he let the other walk away right now and growled low in his throat. It was unpleasant. "I'm not worth it anymore..."
Ayo moved close...so close that he might have touched the other had he so desired, but didn't, as the earlier reaction had just been a -bad- one. "That's not at all true. You're not dead...are you?" He inquired quietly, "There's always some worth left, unless a body's gone completely." He made a face, "And don't tell me you're dead inside either, I've heard that before and it's just an excuse. You should come with me..." He cajoled, tail flicking to and fro.
It was funny, to say the least, for that was the exact thing Kimeta'Inkawu had wanted to say. To say he'd lost everything he'd ever cherish, lost himself, and had no dignity left with which to go looking anymore. Clamping his muzzle shut, he watched the other and then his eyes flicked to his tail. There was just something attractive about Ayo.. his coat? His personality? His impertinent resistance to the word no? Kimmy smiled slightly and at length, nodded. Finally. "I... suppose I... can't just... let you walk away again..." The Glitter Monkey had a strong urge to nuzzle Ayo, which he surpressed. That sort of behavior would cause him problems... especially if they found out his secret.
Ayo laughed softly and nudged the other with his nose then, figuring that he had the right by this time. "No indeed, and I won't let you just walk away from me either. I'm an adult now, and there's nothing you can do to change my mind...and I'm big enough to chase you anywhere you might flee and drag you back." There was a playful smirk that came with the words, however, that indicated that he was teasing the other a mite.
Still shocked from the contact, he managed to keep himself from flinching this time. The other seemed so adamant that Kimmy come along with him, that he felt more welcomed with Ayo than anyone else and immediately remembered why he had liked him so much back then as well. "I'm still older than you..." Kim pointed out, just to do so.
Ayo stuck out his tongue at the other playfully, "You might be, yes, but I'm just as big as you are now." He reminded, and turning tail, he gestured for the other to follow him. "Come on, Kimmy...and I'll show you where we camped down for the day...and we'll get you something to eat...and then see what we can do about grooming you a mite." As he could tell the other needed that too...and Ayo remembered fondly how glossy the other's coat had been when last they'd met.
Kim's ears shrank in response to the playful gesture, but he kept smiling as he padded lightly towards Ayo to follow him. He nodded gratefully and then brightened instantly at the idea of being able to keep his fur clean again ... with a purpose. "That... that would be nice..." He replied dreamily.
"Mmmhmm..." He rumbled, "And...thank you...for coming with me. I really do appreciate it...I have missed you." And he had, for Kimmy had been one of his first real friends, and he'd been sad that he hadn't seen him again. In truth, he did want to get the other back to his normal self, for though he had certainly been different, Ayo had been rather fond of that difference.
Touched by the other's words yet again, Kimeta felt slightly embarassed and looked down, "I should be... should be thanking you..." His voice was meek and slightly squeakier than it had been before. A few notes higher and more like how he'd spoken when he was younger. It wasn't strange for him, in fact that voice much better suited him. He lifted his head and held himself a little straighter, trying to feel pretty again.
Ayo noticed the change and grinned, pleased, as this was more like the Kimmy that he'd known when he was younger. "You don't have to. Just being with me is thanks enough. I miss adult company often enough." Often enough that he'd gone looking for lionesses to hang about, but more often than not they were simply attracted to him for blatant sexual reasons. Not that he -really- minded, but all the same...he wanted someone he could actually talk to, someone who would stay...and wasn't just there for the night.
The Glitter Monkey nodded, showing off his teeth in a happy grin as he watched more carefully where he stepped so to avoid making his paws any more dirtier. Especially when he could be clean soon! Oh how lovely! To him, Ayo was a savior and Kim already was beginning to admire him more and more.
And Ayo in turn, was quite pleased that he'd been able to cheer his friend, and that now, there was to be a new companion within his steadily-growing little family. The red lion had been fond of Kim as a cub...but now that they were both adults, they had a chance to rekindle that bond between them. To Ayo, this was simply the start of a new chapter in his adventure, and he couldn't have been more pleased.

Chiamaka - Owned by Manda
Ayo'obi - Owned by +Sephiros Immortal+
-----------------------------------
Chiamaka yawned slightly, wriggling in order to scratch her back against the tree she was lying beside. She'd started to notice... that Ayo was gone more and more often lately, for some reason. She knew he wasn't -always- hunting, but when she asked what he was doing, that was the only answer she got ... but, in the way of the young, she didn't worry over it too much. Today, though, it was brutally hot, and the young lioness was hot, tired, and bored. It was too hot to play, but she wasn't sleepy either... so instead she found herself wondering about things ... things that maybe she wouldn't have thought about for a little while yet. But there was just nothing -else- to do... and she was already making a mental list of questions here...
Ayo had actually been out by himself this time...going for one of his long walks, and on the way back, he'd stopped and picked up a rabbit...just in case Chia felt peckish. Going back to where he'd left, her, he dropped the creature a couple of feet from her. "Hello, Chia...how has your dan been thus far?" It was utterly sweltering, and right now, Ayo'obi felt like being just as lazy as the little lioness, plopping down next to her.
Chia blinked slightly and raised her head to blink at the male as he flopped down. "Hot and -boring-," she complained immediately, ears laying back. She knew it wasn't Ayo's fault but still ... somehow, she was all irritable just now. "How about yours?"
He sighed heavily, "Mmm...about the same. Are you hungry?" He eyed the rabbit a bit. "It is quite hot isn't it?" Bringing his kill closer with one large paw, his tail curled around him, the tip of it flicking in a lazy manner. No...he really didn't want to move right now...
Well... she wasn't really, but she knew the thing was likely to go to waste if they didn't eat it. Still, though, Chia couldn't summon up the energy right this second to care. "Not really ... thanks, anyway..." she murmured, eyes lidding as she panted softly in the heat. After a moment or two, though, she glanced over at the larger male, and tilted head a bit. "Hey, Ayo ... I uhm. I wanted to ask you something..."
Ayo wrinkled his nose, tilting his head a bit, "Mmm...what sort of something? Go ahead and ask..." He murmured, starting in on the rabbit, as it was clear that the other wasn't hungry, though he might save her just a bit all the same.
Chiamaka watched Ayo for a moment or two, and then wrinkled her smaller nose and just simply blurted out the first question that came to mind. "Where do cubs come from?"
Ayo quite nearly choked on his bit of rabbit, eyes going wide. "I...er...cubs?" Oh yes, Ayo, that was very explanatory and professional sounding. Leaving the food alone for a bit he composed himself, crossing his paws. "Uhm...from the mommy and Daddy lion, of course." He doubted she would leave it at that, but he could hope...right?
Well, Chiamaka -already- knew something was up just by the way he'd reacted, so ... nope, there was no way she was going to leave it alone now. Not until she got an explaination that was more satisfying than that. "That's -obvious-," she said, rolling her eyes at him, tail tip flicking just a bit. "But how?"
Drat. "Uhm............." There was a long pause, struggling to keep a straight face. Finally he took a deep breath. "Sex." Great...that probably only meant that more questions would ensue, and he really wasn't looking forward to them. He had never seen himself giving 'the talk' to a juvenile lioness. Ever.
A blink at that... what the..? That wasn't an answer either! It just brought to mind yet more questions. Frowning, Chia eyed the other - almost suspecting him of trying to avoid the question, except... for the look on his face. "What's that?" she asked, eyes narrowing.
"It's something adult lions do." He said carefully, trying to be as serious as possible. "It is sometimes referred to as 'baby-making' but is a bit more fun than that sounds." Good lords... "Believe me...you'll know when the time comes." And hopefully...some nice male lion would show her how instead of forcing poor Ayo to explain it.
Chiamaka wasn't about to totally give up on the subject though ... as she could -tell- by this point Ayo was uncomfortable talking about it. Which meant there were secrets here... things he still wasn't telling her. "Ooh?" she asked, ears perking toward him. "Fun, how...? How do you do it?" she chirped, wanting -details- here.
Ayo decided it was a very lucky thing he was already red...as he could feel his ears heating. Gods why was this so embarrassing? It was just Chiamaka for goodness sake! "I...erm..." Grimacing, he braced himself and then launched into a halting description, wincing every time a physical term came up. Gods he felt like such a child... "And you have to be responsible about it." He concluded, though lately he hadn't been a very good model of suchly.
And Chiamaka listened, wide-eyed ... at times making 'ew' sort of faces and flattening ears down. Still ... she -had- asked, and she'd wanted to know, but ... geeeez. It didn't really sound like much fun to her. Sounded more like it hurt. And all that just for cubs? "Uh huh..." she said finally. Then with a flick of her tail, she decided, "I think I'm never having cubs if you have to go through -that- for them." And that was that.
Ayo shrugged one great shoulder. "Well, my dear...it's more fun than it sounds, or else lions wouldn't do it so much...and the species would never be perpetuated." Not that he was going to try and advocate the wonders of sex to her. She was still young...she'd learn eventually.
With a little 'hmphing' noise, Chiamaka flopped back down flat with head on her paws, staring out over the featureless dirt. "I guess so..." she murmured. Still, though, she wasn't so sure about ever doing it herself...

Kimeta'Inkawu - Owned by Teh Zan
Ayo'obi - Owned by +Sephiros Immortal+
-----------------------------------
Already the Glitter Monkey was falling back into the pattern of being around another. It was only a short while but Ayo was so kind and comforting that Kim found himself desperately seeking solace from him. A friendship he'd never had but longed for. Something vital to keep him going. It seemed to light a vibrant match in him, and already he looked brighter. But now he wanted to be clean too... and with how ugly his fur was... he needed help. Meekly, he turned to look for Ayo who couldn't have been far off, especially since they'd only refound each other an hour or so ago. "Ayo?" he said softly, "Can you help me?"
Ayo stopped, and tilted his head to one side, green eyes blinking curiously at his friend. "Surely. What is it you need help with?" Turning completely around, he came nose to nose with the other, all too willing to aid the other lion with whatever it was that he might need. In truth, he was so delighted to have the other about that he would quite nearly have put himself at Kimmy's beck and call for some short time, just to cheer him up again...to see him happy.
Nervously, backing away a little, he lifted his head and shook his mane, "My fur... I can't quite... clean it by myself... it's so tangled..." He seemed rather embarassed with having to ask the other for help, especially when he still wasn't used to being near others. As comfortable as Ayo was to be with, old habits die hard.
He smiled gently, "Here...I can help you out with that...you might want something by way of a bath as well, Kimmy..." He trilled softly, tilting his head to indicate that they should move on a bit. "There's a spring not too terribly far from here." Ayo could see that Kimmy was nervous, and he didn't want to upset or frighten him at all.
Golden eyes shimmered in pure joy at the idea of a bath. Being clean and nice again would be quite lovely. He couldn't help but desire it for when he was younger he'd been quite the prissy boy what with his obsessive cleaning habits. Nodding he motioned for Ayo to lead on. "I'd really like that... thank you..." He gave his best small smile to the red lion, liking him more and more and wondering why he hadn't thought about him prior to this.
Ayo padded away, expecting the other to follow him until they reached the little rippling stream that chortled its merry way about rocks, grass grew along the sides of it, and it was clear that this was a rare spot...one of those few places that, were one to sit and observe, paradise could almost be felt. Splashing a paw in the water, Ayo then proceeded to simply jump in, drenching himself. Hey...he could use a bath too!
Vaguely, Kimmy remembered a time when Ayo'Obi hadn't truly liked getting completely drenched. Back then... Kim had also been nervous, lost and vain. These days he was rather the same, but found happiness in different things. What little happiness he did find anyway. Padding in after him, sitting in the shallow end for a little bit, he then got sprayed by Ayo's 'dive' and followed in happily. Bath!
Ayo shook his great mane, sending droplets everywhere, and then padded over to Kim, making great splashes with his paws. "All right...so...I think we should work on getting the tangles out of your mane, don't you think?" He inquired, raising a paw cautiously, as he wanted to help, but didn't want to startle by any means.
The big gorgeous lion with the thick black mane couldn't help but laugh as he was sprayed with the water and then leaned towards the other's paw, willing. He was more eager than cautious by this point, all too happy to be clean again. It had been his pride and joy for so long... it would be like coming home. His own paw lifted to pat at the ends of his mane, growling in distaste, "I agree."
Raising a paw, he very gingerly used his claws as a comb, gently taking out the tangles in the other's mane, so as to make it glossy-smooth again. That was really what Ayo wanted to see...see Kim happy and healthy again, his coat gleaming as it once-had, like when they had become friends... "You do have a nice mane, Kim..." He complimented, playfully flicking his soggy tail at the other.
Unfortunately, though he wanted to, Kim could not return the 'favor' for he was too preoccupied sorting out the rest of his fur gently as he let Ayo care for his precious mane. "When it's clean," he said pridefully.
"Mmmhmm...makes me think about when I first met you. I was most impressed, you know...I'd never seen a male with such lovely fur." Ayo made a purring sound, finally satisfied with the job that he'd done and sitting back. "Hmm...that's the main bit of it I think...what else would you like?"
Kimeta'Inkawu let his now clean fur ripple beneath him, and he sighed contentedly. There was something truly nice about having his mane clean and the rest of his fur sorted through. It was like the fresh spring, ready to bloom in his heart, and he was grateful. Touched too... that the other remembered such things and complimented him. He flushed a little... not used to it, and smirked sheepishly, "Thank you... uh no. No I think it's actually much better now.. thank you..."
"It'll look much better when it's dried...now, I think that's definitely something that the both of us should do, don't you think?" Ayo paddled for the shore, but not before splashing a small wave Kim's direction with one large paw, a rather cheeky grin on his maw. Ah yes, he was indeed rather delighted with the new addition to his little family.

-----------------------------------
“So you’re leaving then.” The impressive red lion intoned, green eyes sad as he gazed at the older, brown lioness in front of him, the one with an emerald gaze that matched his own. She had come to him today…sought him out as she had before, and this time, it wasn’t a cheery visit.
“Yes, Ayo…” She murmured softly, “I’m leaving. I must find my place, and my place is with my mate. My children have well and truly flown the nest, as they say, and I miss Nogea more than words can fully describe.” There was a certain sorrow to the way she carried herself, and it was obvious to all with eyes to see that she was, and had been unhappy for quite some time.
He gave a heavy sigh, glancing away from her, unable to meet his mother’s eyes. He knew he hadn’t been the most faithful of sons, though he’d waited until adolescence hit to fly the coop. But all the same…he should have done something to remedy her melancholy.
Almost as though hearing his negative thoughts, she leaned forward to nuzzle into his mane. “Ayo…Ayo, Ayo…know that I am not glad for leaving you…you have been the best son a mother could want, and I have thanked the gods time and time again for you. But I have become a mother many times over, and I need my mate to make me complete once more.”
”I understand.” There was some stiffness to the words, reluctance. His mind was still searching for something to keep her here, but there was nothing, nothing at all that could be conjured, some fancy excuse to have her remain, to have the privilege of knowing she was but a few hours walk away.
Licking his muzzle as she had when he was a cub, she laughed softly. “Now…be a good boy and go take care of your little girl…she needs you.” Still was she bemused that he had found himself the caretaker of a young one…her Ayo, the flirt and ladies man.
The red male made a face. “Aww, mom…you act like I’m a child again. She’s the kid, not me…” Still was he in denial of the way that Chia was growing…blossoming into adolescence. Hell…he wasn’t ready for that yet!
A knowing smile came on Phye’li’s face, and she waggled her ears. “She won’t be a kid for long, and then you’ll have trouble tenfold.” Already she knew that the growing lioness had a particular fondness for Ayo…that should prove interesting.
Wrinkling his nose, he shook his head. “I can handle it…” Though there was a dubious sort of tone to the words.
“Sure you can.” She rumbled, nosing him. “Now…take care of yourself…until next we meet.” Surely they would meet again. Fate had a way of bringing family back together.
“Until next we meet. Fare thee well, mother…” He rumbled, nuzzling her back this time, in a display of tenderness that he rarely showed to his parent. But she deserved it. Gods did she deserve it.
With a knowing smile, the brown female then turned, padding off into the setting sun…it was time for a new chapter of life to unfold.
