I'm asking what you think about fanfition. I have done full-out change the whole plot fanfiction, inspired-by-the-book use a few elements fanfiction, and new fiction totally my own. Either way, I think it depends on how the writer writes his/her fanfiction. I have read totally amazing fanfiction where I just want to hug the person, because it's that amazing. On the other hand I have read fanfiction where the writer needs to go to a workshop on how to write 101.

I don't read a whole lot of fan-fiction, but I know I've thought up some. I think if it's written well, fan-fiction can be really enjoyable. But I've also read some pretty bad ones, which is why I don't read much fan-fiction.

EDIT: Actualy, what I do is read alot of Doujinshi, or Fan-comics. I don;t really like to read novels on the internet. Still, my opinion is the same. There are a lot of really bad ones, but the good ones tend to rock!

I'm of a similar opinion. Fanfiction can be great when pulled off properly. There will always be those who wright ban-fiction (my own word, fanfiction so bad you want to ban the person of the internet...forever).

I'm on agreement with the whole writer thing. There are wonderful works of fan-fiction that you get lost in but you also have those writers that are like nails on a chalk board (in lack of a better cliche). I don't read fan-fiction myself unless it is given to me (depending if I'm in the mood to) but from all the novel reading I do and my own writing, the bad ones just horrify me.

I really like FanFiction. I agree you sometimes have to wade thru alot of crap to find the really good ones, but its worth it to me!

I am a HUGE fan of Firefly, which for those who dont know was canceled before its first seasonwas even complete, so fanfiction lets me write my own version of the rest of it and lets me read other peoples ideas of it!

I am very picky about fan fiction, but I have come across some decent ones that I wouldn’t mind reading again.

I love fanfiction.

Actually, fanfiction is the reason I can write as well as I do today.

I mean, look at it this way: Writing canon fanfiction is kind of the first step for a beginning writer. It's all right there in front of you: a storyline, characters, universe/world... You don't have to come up with much to write canon fanfiction.

Then there's the AU's, which a lot of senior fanfiction-writers look down on, but what I look at as just another stepping stone up into writing your own stuff. In AU, you have your characters, but you place them in an entirely different world, and most of the time have to come up with a completely different backstory. The only thing that should remain the same, in fact, are the character's personalities and looks.

After that, it doesn't take much to be able to create your own characters.

Now, I'm not saying that every writer starts off this way. I actually started writing when I was in eighth grade, my own, original stuff. After three completed scripts I found fanfiction and started avidly writing for my favorite manga series (Ranma 1/2, Gundam Wing, Sailor Moon, Digimon and Inuyasha were all back in the day). From there I found Rosefire's fanfiction (Mostely AU's) and became an Inuyasha AU fanatic, and thus, started writing my own AU fanfiction, which I still love to write.

From there I started writing out my own stuff again, and I have to say that looking back to my old original stuff, well, it just can't compare.

Again, I obviously became older over the years and was able to write better because of that, I have no doubt, but the fanfiction I wrote developed my skills more than anything else - and the reviewers over at FF.N helped me a lot, as well.

...Sooo. I really love fanfiction.

I don't mind it in moderation, the ones my friends writing can turn out to be quite interesting but after a while I find I must return to my fantasy novels or I fear I may loose what little sanity I retain.

I really don't like fan fiction, although in truth I have never read any good fan fiction stories. I get annoyed by the "writer" using others' ideas, characters, and/or talent. I see all of your perspectives, but I feel that people should come up with their own writing material.

Well...Fanfiction, to me, is another form of writing I love it.
The best part is- there's published fanfiction! Wicked is the most popular example!

On a whole, the idea of fanfiction is great, it's just that the majority of it is poorly written. VERY poorly written sweatdrop But every once and again, you'll come across a story that knocks your socks off and makes sifting through all the crap worth while.

Like, I read an HP fanfiction that was Draco x Harry (Irresistible Poison was the name, I forget the author), a pairing I'd never though of/though could work at all, but the story was plausible and it was so well put together I became a Draco x Harry shipper for life by the time I got to the 5th chapter.

So I give fanfiction a thumbs up :3

Another example would be pretty much every Star War's book in publication. Well, not all of them, but the majority of them ARE.

Some fan-fiction is very bad. I've read some that was so cheesy I was laughing my head off. But a lot of fan-fiction is good if you go wild with your imagination. Expecially the ones that give your imagination a challenge and you have to read it again to actually get inside the book. I think with every book I read in the fan-fiction area I can actually lose myself in and get away from true reality.

Though, sometimes I go looking for really bad fan fiction so I CAN laugh at it XDD
