Meeting with her Sponsor

Jaina paced back and forth it was 10:30, her sponsor was late. Who decided to be her sponsor anyway? She hoped it wasn’t a creepy Senator. That would be really weird. As her mind wandered to the worst possible sponsors, she plopped into one of the chairs facing the door.

She crossed her legs and tried to not worry, but as the time crept closer to 11, she started to panic. Maybe she would be forced on her own. Would she be allowed to stay if her sponsor didn’t show? What could have happened? What if something bad did happen?

Just as Jaina was pondering if finding one of the Knights, a tall black clothed woman walked in. She wore an all black suit and a black hood to cover her silver hair. The woman removed her hood and a braid to her mid back fell over her left shoulder.

“Jaina?” She asked a little unsure. Her strange silver eyes pierced Jaina’s brown ones. Jaina nodded. She sat down in a chair next to Jaina. “Right. I’m Alanna Decour, your sponsor. I am sorry about being late. I was a little held up.”

“Oo-oh.” Jaina stammered out. “It’s alright. I was only worried a little.” She regretted mentioning how she was worried Fool! Now she’ll think you are weak!

“Well that is good!” Alanna smiled widely. “I am told you are very force sensitive. Not only that, but you and your brother were found abandoned. Please do tell me how you survived without anyone.” Jaina stared wide-eyed at the Echani woman. She was so intimidating. “Of course you can tell me in time. I am not pressuring you.”

“I will Miss Decour?”

“Alanna, please. Miss makes me feel old. I’m only 20, despite my hair.”

“Alright Alanna. Jacen and I lived in spare rooms in a medical facility. Father worked there. At least I think. We knew only of a protocol droid, Rei, as our governess of sorts. She was…was more like a nurse than anything. And our father was very old. Maybe 60 standard years or more. I think he might have been a doctor. But he wasn’t a medical droid. He was kind to us. Let us play with what we could get our hands on like old droids or random creatures. I liked the droids. I could always fix them. Or anywhere for that matter. Except for one room, one was off limits. Jacen and I got into big trouble for going into this one room.

“I remember that room because we were punished for going near that room. We had to stay in our rooms for a whole day. It was pure boredom. Anyway, we went in and it was full of tanks. They had this weird goo in them. There was also a holoscreen near the console. It had two weird people on the screen. A man and a woman that looked like Jacen and me. But they had odd clothes, nothing like we had seen before.

“Father found us in the room, we were yelled at severely and dragged back to our rooms. Like I said we stayed in our rooms for a whole day. We fell asleep. The two of us found that sleeping helped pass the time. When we woke, we were sure the day was over we waited for Rei or father to come and bring us breakfast. But they never came. Jacen and I crept out of our rooms to find our home, and the whole building ransacked. It was like no one ever lived there. It was odd.

“We found no signs of Father or Rei. Believe me, we searched for them. All the rooms were ransacked, except ours. We checked the one room that held the tanks and the holoscreen was gone. No tanks, no screen. Nothing. There were scorch marks on the ground where the tanks were. The Knights Orphala and Reesa Den approached us in that room. They were surprised to see us. And then we came back here I told them I wanted to be a Jedi. They said that it would be aright and then 3 days later I meet you.”

Alanna’s face was resting on the back of her hands. She was deep in concentration. “Are you alright then? Can I perhaps get you some things? I heard you say you like droids. I’ll get you one. And instead of all these odd tools you’d randomly find I’ll see if I can get you a Multitool. It’s a device with a bunch of tools.”

“Oh that would be cool!” Jaina’s eyes lit up. “So what about you Alanna? Can you tell me about yourself? The all black and the silver eyes and hair.”

Alanna laughed. “I’ll tell you a little. I’m an Echani. Skilled fighters, we’re known for our silver hair and eyes. I’ll just let you know I work in the government and that my heritage helps in my specific field.” Alanna gasped as she saw the time on her datapad. “It’s nearly 1! I’ve got to get going.” She put up her hood so it covered all her hair. “Jaina, if you need anything. Supplies, advice, a person to talk to, send a message to me. I’ll send you that droid and multitool.” With an incline of her head, Alanna Decour walked out of the room and soon out the doors of the Jedi Temple.

Jaina smiled happily. Her sponsor was cool. A droid of her own? And a multitool. It was all too perfect for Jaina. But what about Alanna not being able to talk about her job. Maybe she was a spy? That had to be it! Or an assassin. That would be so cool!

Alanna was true to her word, a day later a R2 droid was delivered for Jaina along with a multitool inside of a purple sack. Happily Jaina hugged the droid. It surprisingly had the feeling of happiness. Most droids, Jaina found, felt overworked or underappreciated. She named this one Vi because of the violet on her dome, and “vi” is the sound that the droid continued to make. Jaina was so excited that she promptly sent a message to Alanna.

Alanna-

Thank you for Vi (That’s what I’ve named her!) And thanks for the multitool and bag. I promise I won’t get into too much mischief. I seem to be warming up to the temple. There are a lot of rules. It is not like my old home, but I can see it become my new home. I think I start lessons later today, I better get going. Thanks again. Jaina

P.S. Are you maybe a spy for the government?? I will keep guessing until I get it right!

Jaina sent the message, grabbed the purple bag and hurried off leaving Vi alone in her room. When she got back from the first lesson, she saw that Alanna had sent a reply.

Jaina,

I am glad that you like Vi. You seem like a violet and lavender kind of girl. That’s also why I chose the bag. I am sure it will come in handy holding the items that you will need. Me, a spy? You could say that. I won’t say anymore on that subject though. You study hard and make me proud. Oh Vi has an extra feature. She can not only record holos but she has some built in games. You might have tamper a little to get access to the games. Have fun and study hard. Alanna

Lesson 1

Jaina thought about what the two masters had said. Let the emotions establish the connection or find inner peace. It was a touch pick for Jaina. Her emotions usually got the best of her, it would be the easiest path for her. But it was also the way of the Sith. That wasn’t her path, she wanted to be a Jedi. Jaina finally chose that she would strive for inner peace. Not an easy task, but things should be easier if she was peaceful, like force awareness.

She scooted away from the center of the students into a more secluded corner. This one had sunlight, a minor distraction hopefully. Jaina crossed her legs and sat straight. She removed her sack and placed it in the open space between her and her crossed legs. With that distraction way, she closed her eyes and breathed deeply.

As she breathed thoughts immediately entered her head. Is Vi alright in my room alone? What can she do? How should I modify her? What if she is lonely? I better find another droid to keep her company.

Hey! Jaina!!! Focus! Tinkering is less important. Find the Force. Reach inner peace. Can’t get it by being distracted.
She took another deep breath and as she exhaled she let the thought about Vi and everything else leave her head. As she kept her mind clear she started to feel trickles of energy emitted off of everyone in the room. It was barely discernible for the rest of the Temples but she could start to feel the Force in the room.

The presence was like energy surrounding each youngling. The energy was stronger in others and some weaker. It was the same but different. She was a little disappointed that she couldn’t feel the full extent of the Force energy around the rest in the temple but she felt that this was a good start. Jaina kept her aware state and kept trying to make the area of awareness bigger. As the session ended she had accomplished seeing the Force in the younglings in the classroom next to hers, even though she had progressed, her awareness dimmed as she opened her eyes. She faintly felt the glow, one tenth of what she had felt with herself calm and her eyes closed.

Communication 2

Jaina has tried to access these "games" that Alanna had promised. Jaina was a little worried when her usual tinkering didn't work. When she had taken apart all of the outershell and moved a few wires around, a holo screen appeared. "Nicely Done, Jaina!" Replied the holo of Alanna. "Now figure out the wire pattern and send me a message when you've figured it out. You can always send one if you haven't figured it out." With a wink the holo disappeared. Jaina spent the rest of the afternoon looking at the wire and was thoroughly confused.

Alanna-

I got your message in Vi, but I am confused. What is this pattern supposed to be? it is colors, groupings or maybe shapes? Please give me a hint. My lessons are going well. I can feel the force with my eyes shut, but not so well with them open. it is like someone put a dimmer on my force awareness. Everyone says to practice but I do and still have no results. What do you think I should do?

Can You Teach Me Something? {With Jiri Yim}

Jiri Yim (must always remember the "Yim") is pretty nice. According to her I'm named after a great Jeedai (I think she means Jedi) who was part of Luke Skywalker's order. Same with Jacen. He's named after Jaina Skywalker's twin brother. What are the chances of that? She sure knows a lot, and I think that Jiri Yim would be a good role model for now. I wonder if Jacen knows about this.

Lesson 3

Jaina took the orb and walked out of the classroom. She examined the orb as she navigated herself to an empty classroom. She entered and settled herself in the center of the room. Removing her purple bag, she set it down and really started to focus on the orb.

Automatically she grabbed for her multitool, and tapped the orb several times. Jaina was slightly puzzled. It seemed as if it was solid, and yet the force would make it float. She really wanted to crack open the orb, but she was sure that was against the rules.

She put her multitool away before she could dent the orb or do any serious damage. After a bit of wiggling, she was comfortably seated. Based on past experiences, Jaina had figured that when learning a new thing, if permitted, eyes closed was her best bet.

Controlling her breathing, Jaina felt the Force around her and smiled a little, eyes closed was a good idea.. She visualized the orb lifting off the ground, hoping that by wanting it enough, the orb would obey. Getting a sense that just visualizing wasn’t working, Jaina furrowed her brows and tried to force the Force into the orb.

A clatter told Jaina that force was not the way to go. She reigned her breathing and envisioned the orb floating, staying above the ground. The orb, unknown to Jaina, wiggled unwillingly, but as she concentrated on the image of the floating orb, the real orb obeyed and floated mere inches off the floor.

Feeling lucky, Jaina slowly opened her eyes and saw the floating orb. The orb wavered with her eyes open, yet it remained afloat. Jaina let out a “Whoop!” of happiness. With that whoop, the orb clattered to the floor loudly. Jain lunged for the orb so it wouldn’t make more noise.

Keeping it in her hands, Jaina stared at the orb, willing it to move, the picture of it actually floating was on her mind. She was ready this time, and she was determined to make it float, and eventually make things come to her.

Communication 3

Jaina had continued to practice as she waited to hear back from her sponsor. It had been a long while since she had heard from Alanna. She was getting worried, would someone let her know if her sponsor was still alive? As Jaina continued to worry, her data pad lit up.

Jaina,
Please excuse my lack of correspondence with you. I've been away on business. I'll try to let you ahead of time. Please fill me in on your studies. And I would have thought that you being 10 standard years of age and a purple girl, you would have figured out the pattern. Maybe I expect too much from you.
Alanna

Alanna
I've been studying hard, and learning a lot. I can sense the force in other students. I haven't seen much of Jacen though. I think he's working hard. I'm glad to hear that it was just business. I was getting worried.

Lesson 4

Jaina, wearing her blindfold, walked confidently through the door of the classroom. She knew she could use the Force to see the others around her and follow them. It was a good plan in her mind except everyone else was being no help to her.

After 10 standard minutes, Jaina had successfully knocked down a potted plant and several of her classmates. She was frustrated at how hard the lesson was becoming. Realizing how angry she was, she calmed herself down because she knew that strong emotions didn’t help her with the force, only peace did. She stood straighter and breathed deeply, letting the force flow.

She got a slight tingly feeling coming from a large tall object in front of her. She tilted her head a little as the feeling was accompanied by a glow of sorts. Still confused as to this experience, Jaina stuck her hand out and felt the pillar in front of her. Jaina’s heart leaped a little. She was sensing things with the Force! It was exactly how Master Sva’La said it was there to guide and help.

Jaina now confidently walked through the hall letting the force guide her. She did have some issues with her path, but she made it to the courtyard with 5 minutes left in the lesson. She was hindered by the short flight of stairs to the courtyard. No matter how much she trusted the force, she was still wary. It couldn’t mislead her. It had to always be true.

She walked down the stairs shaking a little. After she cleared them, she walked briskly to her dorm. As she reached the dorm building, her comm beeped. Jaina let out a sigh, she was sure that she would have made it back to her dorm in time. With a smile on her face, she left the blindfold on and walked to her room. She was determined to make her sponsor proud and live up to her namesake’s legacy.

Communication 4

Jaina, in hindsight, loved the lessons she had had so far. Her favorite so far was the one with the orb. It made her feel accomplished and excited to make objects float. Jaina had to admit that some of her more important classes had been spent with the thoughts of Vi's wire pattern. She did notice that all wires were organized in bunches of 10. And each one had a purple wire. With little grace, Jaina scrambled from her perch on her bed to her desk to grab her datapad.

Alanna!!!!!
Is the purple wire necessary for any of Vi's mandatory components? She has bundles of 10 with a purple wire in each bundle. Please tell me the pattern!! By the way, temple life is fine. Plenty of work for me to do. I'm in no trouble.
Jaina

Jaina paced for a while waiting for word from her sponsor.

Jaina,
The purple isn't necessary for running Vi. Though I'd be mighty careful with what you do. Remember to study hard and make me proud. I better not hear that Vi or you have been getting into trouble.
Alanna
