The Beacon of Hope for Everyone~ Hikari ~ "Intentions? Nobody ever intends to do things. They just do them." Hikari muttered softly. "If you felt you had to, you would use it on me just like you did on her." She shook her head. "It's all right, you don't have to lie. Everyone in this world is only looking out for their own best interests, so it's only natural." Hikari fell silent after realizing what she'd said. The bitter words came from what she'd come to believe over the years, in her innermost thoughts. "I'm sorry, forget what I said," she murmured quietly afterwards.
She stood and approached the Teru, but stopped an arm's length away. "You don't have to explain. Really." Thoughts of that picture of the pretty red-haired girl invaded her mind for a moment. "I had things I wanted to ask but I don't have the right to ask," she added. "Sorry, Gannon... Sorry... Aaron..." She couldn't bring herself to look at Aaron as she spoke to him.My Song is a Shining Light

Gannon… 
"My own interests? Ya think that I'd be here if I was lookin' out fer my own interests? I'm here 'cause I'm yer Vanguard. I swore I'd protect ya and get ya up the tower." He glanced over at the Human and then back to Hikari. "Now, I get it. Ya have trust issues and that's fine. I understand. I can work with that." The Teru sheathed his blade. "A few years back, when I was still using this place as a hideout, I had to worry about them sending Reyvateils after me. So I stockpiled a bunch of these." He gave one of the broken cans a kick. "We set them up so if any enemy Reyvateils managed to find this place and attacked, they wouldn't be able ta use their song magic. I actually never planned on coming back here, so I never bothered to get rid of them." As Gannon explained the situation to Hikari, he didn't realize that he had accidentally switched from using "I" to "We". "I was thinkin' that if we're gonna be staying here for any length of time, I should probably clear them out.

The Beacon of Hope for Everyone~ Hikari ~ 'We?' Hikari wondered about Gannon's choice of words until realization dawned on her. Without thinking, she blurted out, "Both you and her, right? That pretty girl in the picture you had. I saw..." It was then she realized what she'd said and hesitated before finishing, much quieter than before. "Um, I mean... you seemed to really... care about her..." Pink tinted her cheeks and Hikari felt ashamed for digging her nose thoughtlessly into something that was obviously none of her business. "Sorry, guess I should probably go inside. I didn't mean to disturb you." She bowed slightly and whirled around, facing away from the Teru so he couldn't read her expression. Shame and guilt radiated from her very being, however. How could she not feel ashamed? This man had lost a person very dear to him just because Hikari was alive. It was her fault entirely.My Song is a Shining Light

Gannon…
For the second time in just as many minutes, Gannon had been caught completely by surprise. Girl in the picture... Hearing Hikari mention the woman from his past, Gannon froze up. He wasn't sure what to say. Everything he had planned on telling the Reyvateil had been forgotten. Well, what did you expect? You brought them into your home. All your stuff was left laying around. It wasn't as though he was hiding information about the woman. But thinking back on what happened was painful and he would have rather not gotten into it, though it looked like the cat was out of the bag.
The Teru cleared his throat. "Actually, yeah. We..." He had to pause for a moment, finding it suddenly difficult to speak. "We were on the run for quite a while together." He glanced at Aaron before he continued. "Probably same time he was with 'em. Lucky we never crossed paths before, otherwise he wouldn't be standin' here now." He chuckled a little, trying to make the situation lighter. "So, looks like I got a bit more ta explain... Not sure where ta start. I guess ya got a lot of questions all bottled up inside, so maybe we should start there, eh?" He sat down on a near by boulder and waited for Hikari.

The light-haired boy chuckled a bit at what the Teru had said. "I doubt it." He had made a promise to find his sister, and no force on Ar Ciel, not even the Goddess could have killed him until he accomplished his mission. "But do go on. And don't worry about me. I'll make myself scarce. Looks like this is a touchy topic for you. Wouldn't want to have you start bawling like a little girl on me." It sounded like Aaron was teasing him but in reality he felt that the Teru probably didn't want just anyone knowing his past. In that way, the human understood the Teru's feelings very well.
Aaron himself couldn't bring himself to share the events in his own past. It was far too painful to relive. Even if he managed to tell someone, he ran the risk of being reminded of it daily. Aaron was certain that it would kill him if it ever came to that. He couldn't handle raw emotions of others, because he had never dealt with his own grief and pain. Aaron had simply pushed on and focussed on his promise to his mother, shutting down as many emotions as possible. He shifted uncomfortably at the tension and wondered if it was simply he that was feeling it or if it was the situation as a whole. He decided it would just be best to get out of there. "If you need me, I'll be inside," he told them both before retreating back into the hideout.

She finally turned around to face the Teru. "Um, it's okay, really. Maybe I shouldn't have pried." She clasped her hands together nervously. "I mean, I didn't mean to pry." She took a seat beside the Teru and stole a sheepish glance at him. "I don't even know what I'm allowed to ask. Or what I have the right to ask. I guess, I should say that I'm sorry. You have every right to hate me. If I didn't exist, she would still be alive." Hikari took a deep breath and fell silent, contemplating what to say. "She escaped and spent a long time with you, though. Right?" She smiled slightly. "I don't know if I have the right to say this to you or not... but she must have been happy. To actually live a free life... It's hard but it makes me happy, too." She covered her mouth, ashamed of what she just had said to the Teru. "I'm sorry. Really sorry." She was certain the last thing the Teru wanted to hear from her were words of comfort for the loss of someone that Hikari might as well have killed herself. I'm sure that he really wants to hear this crap coming from me. I'm so stupid! She lowered her head and looked away, repeating herself from before. "You must really hate me..."My Song is a Shining Light

The Teru let out a sigh. This was going to be a hard conversation. "Look, you had no part in her death, so I want you to stop thinking like that. If you want to look at things that way, me helping her escape could very well be the reason that you went through all that you did. After her, they needed a new F.P.D. Looks like they picked you for that." Gannon had to pause for a moment to collect his thoughts. There were only a couple people in the world who he had actually spoken to about this, but he felt that the Reyvateil in front of him deserved to know. In some ways, she was already connected to it. She might as well know why. "We spent years on the run. Think of all we've gone through in the last few days... Now picture that for years on end. I can't imagine it was a happy life, but I like to think that there was happiness there somewhere." The Teru was forced to stop once again as he thought of the past. "Hikari, I don't hate you. I know exactly who's to blame and trust me, they will get what's coming to them some day. But for now..." He gave her a smile. "I'm your Vanguard and I don't have anything to hide. I've dived into you several times and I'm sure I've seen things that you probably didn't want me to know, so I can at least return the favor. Right?"

At Gannon's mention of diving, she blushed. "To be honest, I'm terrified to have you dive any farther. I feel like there will be something there that mustn't be seen by anyone. I feel like there's something there that I don't even want to see. But... if you want..." She swallowed. "You're welcome to. It's only fair. Especially since I pried into your past without thinking." The Reyvateil sighed. "You say you don't hate me now, but I'm scared that after you dive that won't be the case," she admitted.My Song is a Shining Light

Gannon was speechless. Hearing Hikari talk about her past and how it mirrored the woman who'd been taken away from him, it was not something he'd been prepared for. Was history repeating itself? Was the Goddess giving him a chance to redeem himself for his past failures? He shook his head, doing his best to banish the thoughts. "I dunno about all that, but thanks fer sayin' it anyways. And, as for diving, I gave my word that I'd dive again and I ain't gonna break that promise." He thought back to the last dive and the conversation he had with the other version of Hikari. No matter what, he was going to get rid of the virus. It didn't matter what it was going to take.

The Beacon of Hope for Everyone~ Hikari ~ The Reyvateil nodded in acknowlegement to the Teru's words. It was then that Hikari remembered just what had started the whole fiasco in the morning. She'd started a search for some food when she'd found trouble instead. Unfortunately before Hikari could tell Gannon that she was hungry, her stomach decided to inform him instead. The young woman blushed when her stomach let out a rather large growl and her arms wrapped around her middle as if trying to muffle the noice. "Eep... Sorry..." She stood quickly. "Please, ignore that." How embarrassing!My Song is a Shining Light

Gannon raised an eyebrow as he heard Hikari's stomach. "Hmm... Looks like we should probably get inside and get ya somethin' ta eat, eh? And after we get some food in us, then we can continue our conversation. And maybe find out what the hell we're gonna do next." He stood and headed toward the door, waiting for Hikari to follow.

She put a finger on her chin thoughtfully. "It seems like so much longer," she added. "A lot has happened since then..." She followed Gannon back inside, restarting her search for food again, though more cautiously this time than last. She looked to the Teru. "I'm a little scared to open anymore closets. Nereus As Nereus was getting the supplies that he needed, he heard Hikari and Gannon enter and heard the Reyvateil asking for food. "There some at the table if you want some." The human got all his supplies and sat a far from everyone and started to work on his sword. I wonder... maybe I can enchance or longer the effect of the magic. A small grin spread as he worked on his sword.

After entering the hideout, Gannon went through the supplies, pulling out enough ration packs for everyone and set them on the table. It looked like only a few of them were awake. He was sure that would change soon enough. So much for having time to myself this morning...

The Beacon of Hope for Everyone~ Hikari ~ Hikari turned to Nereus as he spoke to her and nodded with a shy smile. "Thanks!" When Gannon put out more of the rations she looked back and forth from the different kinds of food set out until she satisfied herself by serving portions of both for herself. Then she sat down and ate quietly, not wanting to disturb those that were still sleeping anymore than she already had. She took a few bites and set her utensils down, glancing around the room to take stock of who was still asleep and who wasn't. It looked as though Miko, Nel, and the young sickly Reyvateil were still asleep.My Song is a Shining Light
