Mana~

Mana glanced sideways at Hikari. "How're ya holding up?" She asked the Reyvateil. She knew the close proximity that Hikari and the other F.P.D. Mia had, and that Mia was sick. She couldn't imagine that Hikari wasn't feeling it as well. "D'ya want a piggyback, Hikari?" She frowned a bit while inspecting her.

I am the Light of this World The Beacon of Hope for Everyone~ Hikari ~ She shook her head no and fought tears. "The only thing that I want... is for them to be safe. Rhaplanca, Nereus, and Ishira. Is that too much to ask, Mana?" She dropped her gaze to her feet as she walked. I've never had friends before this. I've never had anyone. And now that I've finally found someone to care for, they're going to be taken away from me? Oh, Goddess, please tell me that this isn't some sort of lesson. Does this mean that I shouldn't get close to anyone? Maybe so... Her fists clenched. Of course I'm not supposed to have anyone precious to me, I tried to kill the Goddess! There is no peace, nor mercy for me. There's no place for me either. She reached her hand up to brush away her bangs when she realized that they were moist with sweat. She stopped momentarily, struggling to stay upright and mobile. The world was swaying around her. Hikari lowered her head once again and forced herself to drag her feet after Mana, even if it was at a slower pace. She idly wondered if her negative thoughts were partially affecting her health. It was beginning to feel like if she thought of something that upset her, she would start to feel ill. The Reyvateil fought against the sickly feeling, not wanting to bother the others with what seemed to be a self-inflicted ailment. My Song is a Shining Light

Mana~

"If you're sure," Mana responded, walking on ahead. She made sure to keep a close eye on her sister who was getting too close for comfort to that new Teru woman. A low growl escaped her throat. Make any sudden movements by my sister and I'll blow your brains out, she thought venomously. Her hand came to rest on the handle of the pistol in the left holder. In her distraction, she hadn't noticed that Hikari was falling behind.

Gannon…
They were making good time and judging from the sound of it, the one-eye'd Teru was doing her job and causing a storm behind them. There shouldn't be any way that the enemy could follow them. Glancing behind him, Gannon noticed that Hikari had begun to fall behind. He knew that she wasn't feeling up to walking all the way, but they couldn't afford to stop. They needed to get some place they could dry off and rest. He slowed his pace to give Hikari as much of a break as he could. They'd be there soon. He'd just have to keep an eye on her. Silently, he cursed himself for leaving most of his gear at the Inn. At least then he'd have something to give her.

Noticing that Gannon had slowed down, Aaron briefly wondered why until he glanced back at the Reyvateil who was trailing farther and farther behind everyone else. Wordlessly, the young man fell back until he was next to Hikari. He knelt down in front of her. "Hop on." His tone left no room for argument. If she wasn't going to comply, he would just sling her over his shoulder. He was pretty confident that if she remembered any of the time they'd been together that she wouldn't put him past it to do that too.

I am the Light of this World The Beacon of Hope for Everyone~ Hikari ~ "But Aaron-!" Hikari had begun to protest but one look from Aaron and the words died in her throat. She nodded meekly and climbed on his back, allowing him to carry her. "I'm sorry," she whispered into Aaron's ear. "I'm being a burden again, aren't I?" She bit her lip when she caught sight of Nel and turned her head away. All those questions came back, begging to be answered. She was finding it difficult not to ask him. Why had he left her? Was that Nel girl really more important than she was? "Aaron, can I ask you something?"My Song is a Shining Light

"Hmm? Nah, it's not like that, Kari. Everybody needs help sometimes." He chided her with a slight grin, even using her petname teasingly. The same petname he'd given her when they first met. When Hikari asked if she could ask him a question, the vanguard answered absentmindedly, "Yeah, I guess. Shoot away." He picked up the pace and passed by Mana, and had almost caught up to her twin sister. "It's all right Gannon, I got her, so we can get going again," he called up to the Teru.

I am the Light of this World The Beacon of Hope for Everyone~ Hikari ~ The way Aaron casually answered her hurt her feelings, to be honest. After everything that had happened in the past, didn't she merit at least a little more than the scattered attention he was paying her? Hikari sighed. And using her old nickname like things had never changed bothered her too. But Hikari overlooked it when she cast a jealous glance back over to the other Reyvateil. "Nel... do you like her or something? Or was it me? Is it because I got sick all the time? Did you need a stronger Reyvateil?" Her hands that rested on his shoulders shook slightly in fear and anticipation of his answer. My Song is a Shining Light

"Huh? Whattaya mean, Kari?" Her question confused him at first. It was so random. "No... it's not like that. I don't even know Nel that well. I was just helping her because I ran into her when she was in trouble." They were coming up on Miko, and he purposely moved away from the others so they wouldn't catch the conversation. "And I have no idea what her capabilities as a Reyvateil are either. We haven't done any fighting, just evading the enemy." He shrugged. "I guess I don't really know what it is you're asking."

I am the Light of this World The Beacon of Hope for Everyone~ Hikari ~ "Isn't it obvious?" She asked bitterly. "I'm asking why you left me. I... I showed you everything. You promised that you would stay. As soon as I opened my heart to you, you disappeared from my life. Then I see you here, with another Reyvateil, who's younger than me and healthier. She's probably stronger too. So I need to know if that's the reason you left me." Her grip on his shoulders tightened and she buried her face into his back. "That means... that means..." It means that there's a chance if I try hard enough, you'll stay. It means that it wasn't a mistake to let you in!My Song is a Shining Light

"..." Aaron was at a loss for words. They were getting closer to the front now, having passed Miko, Ina, and Nel. They had almost caught up to Gannon. "It was for none of those reasons, Hikari." He finally responded, although in a duller tone than he'd had a few moments before. "I don't like Nel in that way, and I don't think she's stronger or better than you as a Reyvateil. It wasn't because of how sickly you are or any of the sort. As for what happened between us before... The reason I left isn't something I wish to discuss at this time with you. Is it really a topic you want to touch in front of all these people you barely know?" By this time he'd caught up to Gannon and he hoped his tone and the following silence would give a hint to Hikari that he wasn't going to answer anymore questions.
Aaron felt bad, really he did. But he just couldn't answer her. He knew that the least he owed her was an explanation and apology, but he knew that even then nothing he ever did would make up for what had happened. He was certain that he'd never forgive himself for what he'd done to her.
He'd used her as a means to find more information about someone precious he'd lost a long time ago. Of course, Hikari had trusted him and valued him as someone special to her, but he'd used that trust for his own gain. And it was only at that moment when he realized the horrible and irreversible mistake he'd made. He couldn't take it back and now he was completely at a loss of what to do from this point on, so the only thing Aaron could come up with was to follow and protect Hikari for as long as he could. Hopefully the answers would come to him in time.

I am the Light of this World The Beacon of Hope for Everyone~ Hikari ~ "I'm sorry," she whispered and said nothing more. They had caught up to the Teru who was carrying the other F.P.D. so she didn't want to make a scene or draw any attention to herself. At least, anymore attention than she'd already drawn to herself. She hid her face away so the Teru wouldn't see that she'd started to cry. Her shoulders trembled slightly, and she couldn't get them to be still.
Hikari now knew that truth from that conversation. She'd allowed Aaron to dive into the deepest parts of her mind, and afterwards he'd disappeared from her life without a word. The only answer that she could come up with was that she'd been used, and that the friendship between them that she'd thought so precious had actually meant nothing to him.My Song is a Shining Light

Ina Ina decided that it would be best to summon a little bit of wind to scatter the rain behind them. Once that was done, she overheard a bit of the conversation between the Reyvateil and the human. Ina began to wonder on why they did not kill her. Sure she wanted to live, but not travel with a group of seven people. Ina kept this thing to herself as she was concentrating on the storm. She did not wanted to make it obvious that the storm was done by magic, so she spread it evenly further back and a bit toward the group. While focusing, she isolated herself by being in the middle and far to the side.

Mia stirred a bit in her sleep. "She's...sad..." She rubbed her cheek against Gannon as if burrowing into a pillow. Then she opened her eyes, realizing that she wasn't sleeping on a bed or snuggling with a pillow. "Wait... where? Oh, never mind... I remember." She quieted again and rested her head against the Teru's back. The cold armor felt good against her warm cheeks.

Gannon…
So that's what's going on. Goddess, I'm such an idiot... Gannon cursed himself as he walked. He never should have slowed down so much. Even though it was spoken just above a whisper, Gannon could hear Hikari's words clear as day. Apparently neither Hikari or Aaron had spent much time with Teru. But at least now he understood more of what was going on. But what to do about it? The human obviously wanted to discuss it with Hikari when they were alone.
Before his thoughts could go any further, they were interrupted by the Reyvateil riding on his back. "Don't worry, kid. We're almost there. Ya can rest all ya want. Okay?" He could feel her change positions and knew she must be uncomfortable.
