Kishi had been on his way to Caran and had opted to take a shortcut through the woods. As someone who has been taught to worship the moon, night time travel was when he really felt at ease. He had been making good time, advancing at a brisk pace and without a care in the world while letting his magic flow. He had just managed to create a somewhat decent sized cloud of black smoke when he walked straight into the dense black smoke and crashed into what he assumed to be tree. Blindly, he felt around the trunk so that he could move around it until his fingers felt something sticky. Suddenly alarmed by the implications it brought about, the Koroki moved out of the magical cloud to have a better view of the damaged tree. His sprite had flown closer to shine its light onto the tree trunk and revealed a set of deep marks still oozing sap. They were like nothing he had seen before and he had seen his fare share of territorial marking in his travels.
The presence of an unidentified predator was a worrisome thought, but Kishi was determined to get to Caran as quickly as possible and was not about to turn back so it was with renewed caution that he continued on. He moved as silently as possible, avoiding twig and dropping his careless skipping and use of magic while keeping his eyes open for the slightest sign of movement. He had tucked his spirit under his capelet and upon command, it had dimmed its glow as much as possible to avoid detection.
The further he went, the greater the damage done to the trees and the quieter the night critters were. When he finally reached a collapsed trunk that looked as though it had been smashed open, a cold fury had settled in him. Whatever had done this had no respect for this beautiful forest and he would love to have a word or two with it. It was then that he heard a crash somewhere in the distance ahead of him and squinting, he could make out the faint glow of a campfire. Assuming that they were the ones behind the forest's destruction, Kishi trudged forward, brushing right past where the Chimera had been enjoyed its feast, hidden in the thick bushes, until he came across a group of travellers resting by a campfire.
Without further preparation or warning, he burst through the shadows and into the campfire and shot them his most deadly one-eyed glare even if he was a good head or two shorter than the majority of them. His red eye was still covered by neatly wrapped bandages and his sprite was still hidden. If anything, he looked more like a petulant child throwing a tantrum because he was not getting his favourite toy. "Mind explaining why in the name of the 12 Realms you lot have decided to rip the trees into shreds? Do you know how long it will take for a sapling to grow into something remotely similar? How many lives it could have harbored?"

The spirits Noa had asked to watch over them while they rest began to make a fuse a little whiles into their rest. Although they could not specifically come out and say someone was coming, the feelings they imparted were more than enough to allow Noa the time to have a spell on his lips. Before he was given time to react though blades made up of the air itself came out and cut up everything, and though none were injured by the attack it certainly gave a warning as to what and who may be coming and the power they held. A creature - in many ways similar in appearance to Farrokh - came from the darkness after a bird of prey perhaps?, came from above.
She seemed unaware of them for a time until she came face to face with Noa and then slowly realized she was not alone. Her apologizes came out calmly, as if there was no embarrassment from what she had just done. Slowly Noa rose to her feet as he brushed the debris off. "We have already eaten, thank you. I would like to know where you came from if you do not mind." He followed her gaze over to a sleeping Farrokh and appeared more surprise then before. "I take it you know each other?"
Again the spirits were worried, something else was coming, a lot quieter but still almost on them. Just when Noa thought they were going to have a peaceful night, things just started to get more and more odd.
A child came from the woods. There was a stern look in his eye and although Noa was looking at a mere child he knew well enough to not misjudge someone based on appearance. This one was mad, about the trees? A spirit perhaps, no Noa would have felt it even without those souls watching them. There was something like a spirit about the child though it was too difficult to pinpoint. Looking between the new female and strange child, Noa wished for a moment that he were in some dusty tomb speaking with a long dead king. But he digressed.
"I apologize for the damage to these trees, but 'we' lot were not the ones responsible for the trees." He glanced at the women. "The one you see before you was out for a little night time hunting and may have missed her mark slightly. Allow me to awaken my companion and we can discuss this more in depth." He slowly walked over to where Farrokh was sleeping and shook him. "We appear to have guests."

Farrokh dropped his jaw in pure shock as he saw his long dead love standing before him. She was now an Animatic somehow, though. Before he was able to say anything, the random person jumped out to question them. Seeing him as a small threat, which they did not need at the moment, he explained back to him.
" None of us have destroyed anything. I felt a large spike of power and another presence near here, though. It wasn't the power of a human or any one of us, not right now at least. Take a look at us. Does it really look like we could cause that kind of destruction at the moment? We are just trying to relax and move on to the nearest city when day breaks. If you would like, I could try and help you detect whomever caused that damage you speak of. " he said calmly. The last thing he wanted was to cause a conflict between them and a total stranger as soon as they began to relax.
He returned his attention to Izanami and spoke in disbelief.
" How..? How are you here? You were killed six years ago. There's just no way. " he said in complete shock.

╔═════════════ "Oh, right," Kishi drawled with his arms crossed stubbornly at the response he received. "Just like how it is completely impossible for you guys to have cut up the whole place."
He swept an arm around, motioning towards the debris left by the Animatic's magic. As the Koroki observed the small group of campers, he came to realize that none of them were armed with the claws necessary to leave such deep gashes. On the other hand, many of them looked quite versed in magic and he would not put it pass them to know a few dangerous summon.
He was still furious, feeling his magic churn in his guts, but made an effort to calm himself down so he could properly assess the situation. The result came out as a dark puff of smoke being blown out of his mouth and nostril in an irritated sigh before he turned towards the Animatic.
"Alright, then, sorry to interrupt this lovely reunion, but let's say I humor you lot and do believe your explanation, it would mean that something out there is slashing and blowing trees down and from the trailed I had followed, it is quite near this little campfire so," he motioned at the merry fire crackling about. "If you wouldn't mind, let's do something about this."

Noa glanced at the boy as he spoke about them carving up the entire area. "We do not possess the right equipment to do the amount of damage you are suspecting of us. And to use magic to fulfill that goal would gain us nothing. It is our desire to simply rest and then head to the nearest down to continue our search." It did bring up the question of what could have done that. Looking to Farrokh, who's attention was on the female, Noa wondered what their relationship was. "Farrokh, you know this woman from somewhere I take it?"
The boy then interrupted by telling them they should put out the fire. "If there is something out there doing damage to the forest in a way you speak of, it would mean they either do not rely on sight, or do not take it into account when they are moving about. As it is pitch black in these woods currently, I would say leaving the campfire on would improve our likely hood of being fine if this something attacks. Besides, if it charged towards us it would men you would not have to go looking for it."

" I thought so too. But I'm here, and that's what matters., she replied to Farrokh in the most heavenly voice he had heard for six years. Izanami looked to Noa and explained.
" We were lovers since we were teenagers. Once we got older, I was executed for a false crime, but I have been resurrected by my father, or at least that is what I call him. I was originally a human, but I don't mind taking on this form if it means I can live again. " she said. She could tell that the situation was getting pretty tense with the stranger, but Noa and Farrokh seemed to have things under control. She walked over and sat down right next to Farrokh and cuddled up to him, though he was still in shock. She was trying to get him to relax more.

She slowed as the voices got louder, slinking towards the warm glow of the fire light as her nose twitched curiously. There was a cat man and a fox woman. A stone-heart, a life-being, and a little-one with its guiding-light... Kai grinned. Cat and fox might make a nice pelt, but the flesh of little ones were always so tender... She remembered the flesh of the rabbit again, bones crunching beneath her teeth and blood filling her mouth. The taste of its pain and fear had been a lovely spice to the little snack.
Her fur matted, taking on the texture of fallen leaves while her bone armour darkened and roughened, looking more like stone or dirt. When hunting such a large group, it was always best to observe a while, keep herself hidden. The idea of exploding from the foliage, roaring her triumph as she wreaked havoc was tempting, incredibly tempting, but no. Not for a group as large as this. There were times Kai was in the mood for wanton destruction and slaughter, but now was not one of those times. She wanted to follow, to learn, to perhaps pick them off one by one and watch the others panic... Yes. That was what she would do. They knew about her anyway, they'd seen the marks of her boredom as she'd wandered through the woods. No point in trying to surprise them then, but wouldn't it be lovely to smell their fear as they realised she was hunting them?
Kai grinned, hunkering herself lower in the dirt, the bone of her armour spiking slightly in her anticipation of the hunt. She would watch, she would listen, she would wait. Who knew? Perhaps she would join them, try to pass herself off as a fellow traveler, or an intelligent inhabitant of the forest. Trying to hunt down the despicable creature wounding those poor, innocent trees... Kai stifled a chuckle, flesh writhing with amusement as she grew more fox-like with the very idea of the trick she meant to pull, though she retained her camouflaging texture and colouring since she did not want to be discovered just yet. Oh, that would be rich! Too rich! She had no idea if she could keep up the deception for any length of time, but wouldn't it be a fine trick if she could? All the better to savour their expressions as she turned on them and devoured them whole.
The fox-woman would be first. She could smell the desire of the cat-man from where she was. He would fight most magnificently if Kai played with her first... The battle was sure to be glorious.

╔═════════════ Right, most people weren't exactly used to night time traveling and preferred the security of a campfire.
"Fine with me then. If you don't mind, I've decided to stick around." With that, the Koroki flopped down near the fire without asking permission and started fishing out a tattered leather bound book. It was old and worn with nothing, but little scraps of gold lines for title. It was an old tome about Light and Dark magic he had snatched from his people and contained all the basic spells his kind were usually taught when they came of age. Unfortunately, it said nothing about methods of training so Kishi had been left with nothing more than a brief description, his own instincts and much trials and errors.
Having the attention span of a child, the Koroki had just shifted his priority and concluded that his trip to Caran could wait. He had issued the bounty already and he was more than confident enough that the city's governor's long life was about to come to an end. If not, it was satisfying enough to torment him with the threat of it. The simple thought of it brought a childish grin to his lips that surely did not go unnoticed.
An irritated huff in the dark recesses of his mind reminded him of his guardian spirit's presence, still hidden in his capelet and he promptly let it out before it decided to tickle him into submission like the last time he had forgotten it. The sprite shot out, zipping merrily around the camp at his newfound freedom before settling near the Kor. Kishi detected a hint of concern and distrust as it whirled around Noa a few times before flying into the woods, leaving a trail of evaporating dark dust. He wasn't one bit worried about his companion as it was small and agile and knew to keep to the tree branches for cover and their telepathic link allowed him to be keep an eye on it.
He started gathering magic in his lungs and chest and infusing it with dark elements even as he kept an ear out to the conversation happening a few feet away. The word "resurrection" had caught his attention, but he did not let it show and simply continued practicing the latest spell he was trying to learn. If things did work out right, he could blow the cloud of black smoke above them, keeping it far away enough not to leech travelers' magic.

When Izanami cuddled up to him and he could feel her warmth, he knew she was real. He held her close and didn't really know what to think. He wasn't expecting this to happen and he had been so jaded to love for so long, he wasn't sure how to react. When the random child sat down, Farrokh replied.
" We are headed to the west, so if you are headed somewhere else, then you might as well not follow us. I don't see why you would come with us anyway, if you are so confident you are powerful enough to take all of us on. You shouldn't need our help. " he said, slightly annoyed. It was rather rude to invite yourself to someone's group without asking. That's when his pulse ability activated. He used it every few minutes when he was awake or asleep, just to keep an eye around him. That is when he sensed a strong presence near them.
" Wait...there is something here. It's not human. It isn't weak, either. Hm...large claws and horns...it is some kind of beast. It shouldn't be too much trouble to kill, though. " he said. He stood up and grabbed the rest of his swords. He was prepared to fight.

Ah, there was the little one's guiding-light. Or was that guarding-light? Hmm... It had it's own smell, a tingly, electric smell like just after a storm or the last gasp of broken prey... She tracked it as it whizzed out of the camp site, wondering if she should try hunting it. She could wing after it, no problem, or perhaps bound from tree to tree after it like a demented toad-hare... Hmm... Nah. Pity that little lights, guarding or guiding or whatever, hardly ever tasted good. Sometimes they screamed very nicely when burned though.
Oops. Seemed like she'd been spotted. Now how had that happened? She was blended well enough colour-wise, and she was pretty sure she smelled like dirt and rock too. She'd cleaned her muzzle thoroughly after her little snack, so it wasn't like there was the stink of blood to give her away either...
Eh, she'd figure it out later. For now, the fox-man was coming to hunt what he thought was some poor wild creature. And five swords? Really? Did he have extra arms she couldn't see or something? Or ooh, ooh, maybe he was a shapeshifter like her! That would be great!
Kai peeled her lips back in a vicious grin. Could she lure him out? Alone? They'd have such, such fun if she could! A loud snarl, and she'd changed, body long and lithe, almost weasel-like but for her scales and long, spiky tail. The tail lashed, scoring a trunk near where she'd been, and she was off, staying low as she rapidly wound through the woods, making sure to rustle foliage as she went and leave a few more marks with her tail, pretending she was too agitated to control it well. She was quite excited, and her body reflected that, a contained kind of excitement that kept her low, lithe, agile. There was the faintest edge of fear to that excitement too, the thrill of having her enemies at her back, hunting her. Just enough for a coat of scales to deflect arrows and other such nuisances. She'd kept her horns and her claws since those were apparently what he'd noticed, but this body was much better at slinking quickly through the undergrowth than her default.
Follow, follow, follow! she mentally urged, claws digging into the loam and teeth sharpening with anticipation as her muscles corded, tensed, urged her on just that little bit faster with the excitement of it. Hopefully at least one would follow her, would be able to keep up with her, but if they didn't, oh well. She'd sneak back in another form, perhaps wait till they were asleep. No killing yet, oh no. She would hate to waste these toys, hate to break them too soon. She wanted to play with them a little first, encourage and then savour their fear. It was still a long, long way out of these woods. She could afford patience for such precious prey as these.

Farrokh sensed that the creature had changed shape and retreated. It was a shape shifter apparently, which would explain the higher level of danger than a simple animal. Seeing it retreat, he said to everyone,
" It retreated. It's a shape shifter I take it. In any case, we shouldn't pursue it until we know more about it. It's foolish to go rushing into a battle unsure of your opponent. I have a feeling it may be coming back if we don't pursue it though, so we should take turns sleeping and watching guard tonight. If anyone sees anything dangerous, we wake up everyone else. " he said wisely. He knew that the beast was trying to coerce them into pursuing. Only an idiot would try and chase after her now.

The dead were not bothered by illusions or stealth. The strange creature would not have done well and if it was not for Farrokh pointing it out, Noa would have said something. His eyes had followed after the small spirit that stopped in front of him before flying off into the woods. It seemed to not like him, or at least was weary of his abilities in some way. It mattered little, he was not some lich looking to control the souls of others, the only reason Noa used spirits was because they still lingered and were willing enough after he asked.
Turning back to Farrokh;s earlier comment about the boy thinking himself too powerful to be able to attack all in the party at once, he sighed. A sound similar to a breeze at it did not originate from him just like other noises he would make. "We should not turn away an extra hand in our journey. This one may know the area better and could give us a tactical advantage if we were attacked by that stranger from before or the shape-changer that has run off. It is not a matter of needing one another's help, but being wise enough to see an the advantage to more bodies with varying skills."

He waved his hand uselessly in an attempt to clear the puff of dark smoke he had inadvertently released. It stayed, brushing past his hand until he gave up on it. His voice was kept light as he registered Farrohk's words . as he was not exactly taking the situation seriously, nor was he focusing on the Animatic that was all too eager to see him gone or the Kor that had spoken in his favor. Instead, he was too busy poking his head in and out of the smoke he had just conjured and admiring the different degrees of visibility he was getting out of it. "I am merely a nature loving traveling physician. You would not leave a defenseless Koroki such as I to fend for itself in these dangerous-Ow!"
Kishi's guardian spirit had zipped back while he was too busy playing with his magic and had slammed itself into the back of his head at full speed to get him to shut up. It hissed something about how Kishi was always making its job of guarding him so bloody hard through their bond before giving its report. The Koroki went from sullen disinterest to half entertained as he listened to his companion. "Oh, this is interesting, blood and fur of what may be a small rodent was left behind, but nothing more. Very fresh from what I understood. It seems to be alone. At least for now."

He wanted more information on the woman's apparent return from the dead so he was not about to leave anytime soon. "The specialist has spoken, so let us wait for it to make a move and pack our things and move in the morning. I volunteer for first shift!" he said loudly, hand raised as though still in school and then pointing at his guardian spirit floating above his head. "I've got this little fella to help me keep things alight should the campfire not be enough."
He was not sleepy at all and had no intentions of trying to sleep. There was simply so much to do and so little time and maybe practicing his spells for without running from one place to another for once would help his productivity. Part of him still did not trust the others enough to let them keep watch for extended periods of time anyway. True, a few of them seem to have a few extra senses as his sprite oh so helpfully supplied while pointedly glowing in the Kor's general direction, but who was to say this creature would not bring more of its kind or have any sort of shielding ability to keep its presence unknown.
"Unless you guys want to have a round of stories exchanged over said fire," he added as an afterthought while rummaging through his messenger bag, spellbook still open on his lap. New companions, new stories. Best to get to know them. And it would provide the perfect opportunity for him to gather information. After a few clinks from the vials he kept in there and stuffing his guardian spirit in the opening of his messenger bag as a source of light, he finally concluded: "I don't think I have marshmallows with me."
