'.....' Ophiuchus had remained in his lab, leaning up against the wall - which he then proceeded to slam his forehead into repeatedly, and with much force. You couldn't really say anything back to Riser -
'You have a flair for telling people what they need to know, and don't want to hear. If she'll ever speak to me again, I'll let her know though..'
- that he didn't already know.

Alec just shook his head when Lin ran off into the forest. "Hopefully she'll actually think about the situation as a whole and figure out if Ophi is good for her or not." Alec was pretty sure it was Ophi now. He couldn't think of any other professor that fit Lin's description better. Alec walked back through the woods towards the funeral, taking his place with the others that had started to gather. He'd find Lin later after she had time to think, Alec had said what needed to be said. Now it was up to Lin to sort through her feelings on her own.

Lin was not alone in the forest. An odd being was walking purposefully around the woods, surveying the area up close. She was tall, and walked with perfect balanced posture. Her eyes were gray, her hair, teal-colored and short in the back with long curled bangs, was not a traditional hairstyle. She was wearing a light gray headset and a GPS-like unit on her wrist, when an elf quite literally ran into her - a head on collision. But this young woman didn't budge an inch. For the elf, it must have been like hitting a steel wall. "Are you alright?" She asked the elf with concern.

Lin groaned in hurt and frustration as she hit was felt like a steel wall and she fell to the ground. She didn't get back up. She just laid on the ground and sighed. She hadn't even looked up to see who was talking to her.
"No, no I am not alright. Apparently, there is no place an individual can go to be alone."

"Over six billion people in this world, good luck with being alone." This woman was genuinely sympathetic... at least, in her tone. "Do you want me to help you up, or would you rather I ignore you?" She tilted her head slightly, analyzing the girl's crumpled form on the forest floor.

Lin arched an eyebrow at the analytical response she heard and finally looked up at the... individual? Lin couldn't sense a specific aura coming from this being. Anything she did sense seemed to be almost stuck to this person. Nothing was coming from her.
Lin cocked her head to the side, sat up, and looked at the individual interestingly. "Wow. If... if you do not mind me asking, are you a robot? I have read about robots and I know that they do not have any auras around themselves, but leftover magic can be attracted to the electrical field of a robot. And I know that some robots can be highly intelligent, almost appearing as a real human. You can still tell a difference, though, if you know what to look at and..."
She was rambling again. Like she used to normally when she got excited about something new to learn or a test that was coming up.

The woman calmly waited until the end of Lin's rambling before she spoke. She was in no immediate rush. "I am a robot, yes. You are correct. I have no aura of my own. What you are sensing in residual magic from my creation. Three years in HEO has not been sufficient opportunity for traces of the initial surge of energy to decay naturally into the environment. You are also sensing magic that has clung to me like dust and dirt as I have walked through this forest."

Lin gasped and stood up, all previous sorrow quickly fleeing from her mind for the moment in place of learning new information.
"That is fascinating! What is HEO?"

"High Earth Orbit," the woman responded promptly. "Approximately 35786 kilometers above the surface of the Earth. Geocentric, but I am not geosynchronous."

Lin's eyes widened for a moment and was silent. She could not follow most of what the robot said. It was actually nice for her. She could learn a lot.
"Well, that is very interesting. Are you... hungry? Do you need to recharge or something like that?"

The woman shook her head. "I am neither, but I appreciate your concern. I've had all solar panels out for 36 hours, I have adequate energy for the next few days. Right now, I am surveying the school grounds. One learns more up close than they do far away."

"Very true, but unfortunately one's observations up close are never truly accurate. If the 20th century taught science anything, it is that all acts of observation inevitably and often irreversibly affect that which is observed. The observer is never a neutral party as he would often like to think of himself, rather he is as much a rung in the ladder of the environment as is his object of study." He was standing in a tree, around fifteen feet or so up; it must have been an easy climb. As for how he was able to get around that quickly, no one could truly be sure. "Are you truly here to observe, or is there some deeper meaning behind your appearance Synthetic?"

Lin smiled and nodded to the robot. Sure, she was just a robot, but Lin liked her, a lot! She liked to observe things just like Lin did. Learning things more up close was better than simply reading about it...
Oh no. That reminded her that because of her mistake, because of her foolishness, she would not have a chance to learn about potions up close. She was not going to go back and ask her professor to instruct her again, but if she had never behaved so brazenly, she would be able to study under him right now.
This saddened and frustrated Lin again, bringing back all that had happened. She wanted to talk more with the robot, just not right now.
"Ma'am? I hope you will be staying here for quite some time. You are very interesting and I would love the opportunity to learn more about you, but I must depart now."
She pointed back the way Lin had come from. "If you want to observe our school, you should head that way. Here is not a good place to study because it is very cut off from the professors and students."
And then, Lin started to feel darkness pressing in around her again. It was a horrible, claustrophobic feeling. Just like it had been at the.... shack.
The shack. One individual had caused this to happen in her. And then she heard his voice and she knew who exactly it was. She had to get away! She couldn't be near him right now, not with how upset she was and not all alone!
She knew the robot would be able to handle herself, that the darkness wouldn't affect her at all, so Lin bolted from the area. She was running as fast as she could through the woods. She wasn't scared of the woods. It was pure nature and she felt safe there. She was trying to hide in her safe area away from the pure darkness.

The girl had bolted before the woman could respond to her - but that was alright, because someone else had a query. She looked up, at where the man was in trees.
"That is a unique way of phrasing that dilemma. I like it. You are very intelligent. I am not here merely to observe. I have been called to report by a Master. I have a task. Surveying the land around the school will make my task easier in the future. And you? Are you here to observe me?"

'Why run? What have I done to you? Absolutely nothing, and yet you flee from my very appearance as though I held a blade to your heart. I am not to be feared until I demand to be feared, and for the moment I'm in no shape to demand anything at all. I implore you, come back to my tree. Perhaps you shall realize I'm not truly as bad as everyone makes me out to be. You can't run from everything that scares you dear, running is no way to live.' He was too exhausted at this point to give chase; if she wanted to return, she would, if she was still so horrified, she would never stop running..
