Lin nodded and considered what her professor said. She wouldn't want to keep him from his nap. But she also didn't want to be alone in the lab with him asleep. What if she touched the wrong thing? And then he removed his long coat. She loved that coat. It was very fitting for him. Although, his outfit underneath wasn't bad. Dark jeans and a long sleep shirt, one you'd layer with, in a neutral color. He didn't layer with it today, though. All you could see was the bare skin at the base of his neck and the chain of the potions necklace he wore. He looked very mature and quite attractive. This was quite a dangerous road, but Lin had learned with Dymetri that dangerous could be a very good thing. Dymetri... Well, she had not heard from him all weekend. He had not contacted her once and did not come to find her when she returned, and she knew that he knew the moment she came back to the school. He could always sense her nearby. Lin shrugged and swung her legs onto the cot. Then, she scooted back to the edge. "Well, sir, if you wish, you could lie down on the cot with me and take a nap. I would not mind. I guess we could both benefit from some sleep."

Ophiuchus was hanging up his coat as he was listening to Lin. When he heard her suggestion.. well, imagine a record on a turntable being grabbed instead of calmly lifting the needle. That scratching, squalling noise of a vinyl record coming to sudden violent halt....
That was about the equivalent of Ophiuchus's mind as he slowly turned around with his head tilted. For a very dangerous moment, he thought Lin was implying something she really wasn't.
Damn Riser. Putting those stupid thoughts in his head. Carnal pleasures, indeed. Ella was gone, and Ophiuchus was quite happy with remaining unaffiliated.
"No no no, the cot is yours. Besides, those things are skinny. I'll sit next to you and chat, but I like lots of space, and I guarantee you'll find yourself on the floor no matter what."

Lin was hurt that he turned her down. She didn't know why she was hurt. It shouldn't matter if her professor laid down beside her or not.... but it did.
She slowly stood up, just to make sure she wasn't still dizzy, and crossed her arms over her chest and actually scowled.
"Well, if you are not going to rest, then neither am I. I was merely offering because I thought that you wanted a nap and I did not want to deny you one. I also did not want to be left alone while you rested."
She raised her chin definitely and then walked over to the wooden potion counter.
"Well, if neither of us is going to nap, why don't we work on something, sir?"
Why was she being so snappy all of a sudden? It was quite rude of her.

"Because," Ophiuchus shot back, equally snappy. "You are smitten with me, and you're allowing your emotions and fleeting attraction to toil with your logic. As much as a hypocrite as I am for saying this, you never let your emotions affect your work."
"... Also, because there's a very large knife with arm's reach of you, and I do not enjoy getting stabbed for opening my mouth."

Lin felt all the air escape her in a gasp. What... the... hell had just happened?! Her smitten with a professor? AGAIN?! Well, that was just.... that was just....
Well she didn't know what that was and she didn't have to figure that out right now!
Lin continued to scowl and she marched over to her professor. She looked up at him defiantly. "You know, sir, you should not let some dark being's seedy suggestions affect your judgment! And I am not some immature school girl that would let her little emotions get in the way of her work! I have managed my grades perfectly no matter what I have been through!"
She then rolled her eyes and gestured behind her in the direction of the knife. "And the knife comment was just asinine, if you do not mind me saying so. As if I would ever use a weapon against a professor, a professor who teaches me so much and who I respect greatly!"
Lin had not been this angry in a long time, if ever. What was going on? She was so frustrated. She wasn't getting anywhere, and that hardly ever happened when she worked so hard on something.

There it was, the Look. That very long, stern Look. The one that was a perfect combination of deep emerald, semi-slitted pupils, and the expression that said I am over a hundred times your age, do not even attempt to climb onto my playing field, because it is steeply tilted in my favor.
"Some seedy dark being? Lin my dear, you do not even know whom you are talking about." His voice was so quiet and controlled and it was the only thing audible, aside from their breathing. "Take however powerful you think I am, and you might as well multiply it by 50,000. Take my age, and add a few hundreds of thousands of years to that number. Take me at my worst, and put it at his best. What you have is Riser, a god who is so indescribably powerful that I locked myself away for ten centuries because I, an immortal, feared for my existence. He is here under circumstances I would not dare to discuss out of possibly bringing about the annihilation of life as you and I know it. He dangled a teen-aged Headmaster over the pits of Hell. He lit the Americas on fire. Everything I work towards is like a joke to him. And because of what happened yesterday, we all owe our lives to him. Do you have any idea how it feels to be in debt to the entity that practically invented chaos? Do you wonder why my judgment is impaired right now? You will never, ever underestimate what is possible in this world. If I can owe my existence to evil incarnate, then you can most certainly decided to pick up a knife in stab me and the gut - which, by the way, would not harm me in the slightest."

Well... that was evil. But Lin had sensed that before. She had nearly passed out from the extreme darkness emanating from this Riser creature.
Lin got up on her tiptoes to look Ophiuchus directly in the eyes... as best as she could. She was still shorter than him even on her tiptoes.
"What I did notice, Professor, is that all you talked about was Riser. You did not even mention my supposed feelings for you, sir. Afraid to admit something, Professor Akakios?"
She smirked at her professor, something that was quite unlike her. But in a way, she kind of liked it, her new confidence.

"I am afraid to injure your state of mind," he hissed, "But since you seem so intent on 'learning', I'll give an extra lesson. Unlike your precious vampire escort, there is absolutely nothing physical that compels me to be in your company. I will never return your supposed feelings, because I have none for you. If it weren't for my contract, I could have left you to perish in that cloud of darkness, and it would be nothing on me." So harsh...

Well if that didn't just drill a hole into her stomach. She wouldn't be surprised if her professor had taken that knife and stabbed it into her stomach.
Lin had never experienced this humiliation mixed with pain before. She had no idea how to deal with it. Her professor was right. It would be an excellent learning experience...
Lin looked around for a brief few moments before her eyes landed on the perfect thing. With her eyes still on what she had found, she responded to Ophiuchus. She smirked harshly.
"Well, sir, you are right. No matter what you do, short of physically attacking me, I would never stab you with a knife. But I would do this."
With her lightning-quick elven reflexes, she grabbed a bottle of itchy herb potion that was on the counter and poured a small amount over her professor's chest. She then put the bottle back down on the counter and smirked confidently at him and crossed her arms over her chest.

"...."
There was a long, long pause. Then, Ophiuchus slowly took off his shirt. He folded it up neatly, and tucked it inside Lin's arms. "I'm sure the combat professor will be pleased to have someone wipe the blood off the mats for him for the next three weeks. Detention, Miss Yin. Also, I involuntarily heal myself on contact, which includes negating the effects of all poisons. You fail."

Lin's eyes widened in horror at what her professor said. Detention?! She had NEVER had detention before! Had never even come close! And cleaning up blood?!
Lin was so incredibly angry and hurt. She was just reacting on instinct now.
She threw her professor's shirt back at him, hitting his bare chest. He looked so incredibly handsome and stunning, but right now, it just hurt and enraged Lin further.
"As IF I would EVER waste getting something more serious than a detention on someone like you by actually trying to hurt you! I knew that potion would do nothing to you! You forget who you are dealing with, Professor Akakios."

Quote: Kai! The entirety of Ialo's mind recognized him, and calmed down immediately. The darkness moved aside, and the Human was visible - he was only seeking shelter from the Dragon's rage. But with Kai here, none of them would lash out at each other.
They'd probably all get their asses kicked for that....
Kai, we have the strength to get Danni back. Kai fixed his gaze on the dragon as Ialo spoke, but Ialos words seemed to bounce off him as he glared at the Dragon then at the other two. "Ialo ... what strength of numbers is there if your numbers don't work together? I'm not one to brag but I've almost killed myself multiple times when my three...," Kai paused for a moment as a new thought dawned on him, "... what would you call them? sides, forms, entities ... Alignments that's the word I'm looking for. when my three alignments fought it out if you want power your gonna have to put it into one purpose instead of three." He cracked a familiar grin and looked at the three again. "anyway enough of my over dramatic off the topic rant, you three would make a great team if you stop trying to kill each other. As for the issue of Danni ... Yes we do have the strength to get her back and I intent to lend a hand. You however can't do much until your body recovers." he shrugged absently pacing back and forth, his foot steps echoing in his mind.

A unified purpose is nice and all, the Dragon commented. He was interrupted. - But we weren't thinking strength in numbers, the Human said. There's not enough numbers in the world to convince me to confront the Ancients who took Danni. Hey, what happened to all your fancy flowery talks about talking instead of fighting? Yes, imagine how well that will go over when we appear at their doorstep and politely ask for Danni back. They will say no, and slam the door in our face. Well, you certainly aren't going to fight them anytime soon...
Ah, Kai, they said in unison. Ialo woke up. Why don't you ask him? He doesn't even know we're here, you know.

"And yet, you're not going to let this stop you," the healer pointed out. "I'd wager that even though you absolutely hate me right now, you still want to come here and learn. Having to learn from me is just a side nuisance. I'll even say that within the next few minutes, you're going to do something to calm yourself so you can fully be there for Ambrose when you go to Danni's service."
"But, you're right Lin Yin. I don't really know who I'm dealing with." Ophiuchus could see that him simply being here (and unattainable) was making her furious. "This is a Lin that I'm not familiar with. Frankly, I'd much rather have my Lin back. Maybe you've seen her? She was here not but 15 minutes ago. Very smart, very pretty, loves learning. She's bold without being overbearing, and she doesn't let disappointment cloud her vision. Where is that Lin? Because before she left, I never got to tell her that she's like a second daughter to me. If you see her, let me know."

Lin gasped at what her professor said about her being like a 2nd daughter to him. Good god. Was he trying to kill her? Maybe hurting her and completely embarrassing her wasn't enough. Now he had to give one final blow. Normally, she would be ecstatic at one of her professors telling her this, especially one she revered so much. But in this case, it just hurt more.
And a 2nd daughter? Did that mean that he already had a daughter? Now that she hadn't thought of. With how old he was, of course it'd be natural for him to have children. She hadn't thought about that, though, and that added a different aspect to all of this. One of his children could be her age, or older...
Lin shook her head and wrapped her arms around her midsection, holding herself. She turned her back to her professor, trying to hide the fact that tears were forming in her eyes. She was horrified that tears were forming. She hardly every cried.
"I... I do not think we should come back here together. I do not think we should have an independent study course together anymore. I will still be in your class because I want to learn as much as I can about herbs and potions, but, I will read books to get the more advanced information I need, like I did at Bai Ching."
