"Ah! Talking snake!" Addie said with some delight, and depsite himself, Eli turned his head and raised a bushy brow. Really? They'd done this much of an overhaul on the kid's memories that she didn't even have the grace to blink twice?
"The dream said to ask about a big, big white snake! Bigger than you, Miss Snake! He sounded old! And like a he! He says snakes are good, so I shouldn't be afraid of them!" She said happily, her eyes glittering, pleased she'd remembered.

"Did he?" The white snake said, startled. Suddenly, it clicked for her. She had been contacted by the White Serpent! She was definitely on the side of snake-kind then.
She coiled loosely around the girl in a wide circle, steadily growing longer and swelling in size, before transforming in a a beautiful naga with gray scales and black hair. She offered her hand to the girl.
"My name is Nina, by the way."

"Nina sounds pretty. I'm Da...Addie." She said, wondering why her name had come out wrong at first. She was just about to take the naga's hand when she heard her father's shout, and the next thing she knew, all her brothers were dragging her back, shielding her, even as Eli went ballistic, snapping at Nina.
"No! No, snakes are good. Snakes won't hurt anyone." She said, confused, but then her face went blank when Salem came up behind her, passed a hand over her face.
"Damn it, Eli, what is this? We just got here not two days ago." He said, gesturing angrily at the naga as Addie stayed unmoving at his side, her mind having been temporarily blanked so she was like a life sized doll, silent and biddable.

"This? I am female, can't you tell?" Nine asked, gesturing towards her unclothed figure. Snakes don't wear clothes, after all. "Is Addie your slave? Why can't she talk to me? I'm not going to eat her - are you?"

Secret Kirari She stuck out her tongue. "I'll be fine. It just was... loud. And obnoxious. And hurt. Anyway, tourtourtour... Mm, if we go that way we'll get to the dorms," she said, pointing down a short hallway, "and this door here leads to the gardens. If you're ever looking for Lin, you'll probably find her here." Or with a certain vampire professor, but she wasn't about to say that and betray the fragile trust she'd built with her roommate. "Ah, yes, the tour!" Nathan mused. "Well, it's rather late, so I think the gardens can wait until sunlit hours. What are the dorms like? And, who is Lin?"

Athena shrugged. "Yeah, you're probably right about that. And let's see... the dorms depend on when you're there and in which dorm room you're in. Like in mine, Lin--who's my roommate (she's an elf)--and I kinda split it in half. Hers is all pretty and stuff and mine's pretty much a mess like my room at home but without the cat toys. Lin's is all organized and neat and the only time her bed isn't made is when she's in it. I don't think my bed's been made since I first got here."

"First off, an elf? That's new for me. And secondly..." Nathan laughed. "That sounds just like my sons! You must be related to us!"

Athena nodded. "Well, she comes from Bai Ching which is an all-girl's school over in China or something. I'd say I'm related to you, but that would be weird because that would mean I'm related to my headmaster which is kinda creepy to be perfectly honest. And while I'm somewhat human too, probably half, I don't really think that dragons are closely related to yokai, since... well, yokai came from Hell. Where did dragons come from?"

Nathan was chuckling, but.. that really stopped him short. "I, uh..." The bewildered look on his face was hilarious. "I have no idea."

She laughed. "Maybe they do come from Hell too, then! But probably not. And yokai left forever ago anyways, so you can't really say yokai really come from Hell. Just distantly. Enough that we still use demonic magic rather than light or dark or general magic."

"There are different types of magic?" Nathan asked. "What kinds are there?"

"Of course! It's not like in Harry Potter where it's just branches like charms and transfiguration that anyone can learn! There's light magic that elves and fairies use and it rarely has any bad effects. There's also dark magic that vampires sometimes can use and people like Danni - " there was that weird feeling again " - who also can use it to control some dark and most demonic beings. There's general magic for witches and wizards and other people with magical ability, but who aren't magical in lineage. Then there's demonic magic like mine, obviously used by demons and partial-demons. It's a lot like general magic but it often requires sacrifices or rituals and it gets stronger depending on the cycles of the moon."
...Speaking of which, she still had that Dust.

Three words in, Nathan had whipped out a small notepad and an eraserless pencil. And word for word, he was writing in shorthand everything Athena was saying. "So... do you know what type of magic dragons use?"

She frowned and shrugged. "I think it's probably general magic, but it could be one of those obscure ones that people haven't examined enough to figure out. It might be dark magic or one of those funny branches that overlaps dark and general magic or something. It's definitely not light magic, though."
She thought his enthusiasm was funny.

Again, everything Athena said went down on paper. "Interesting... I've asked before, but none of my family has been able to answer that... I wondered if maybe different dragons used different magic. So, what's next on the tour?"
