Fire illuminated the realm again, once more catching only shadows. The flames burned brighter than they ever had before, catching oddly on the shadow horses that had lingered reluctantly around the spinning platform.

They seemed to cast glances between each other, between the people on the platform, between the tent covered in flames.

Another tremor shook the ground and another nearby fire was snuffed out.

The first horse to move did so at an awkward trot that gradually picked up speed as its conviction strengthened. It threw itself against the flames, extinguishing in a great fog of darkness.

The other horses were still at first. Then two, then three. Before they had reached the flames, the others began to charge.

The fire seemed to die down bit by bit as they collided with it, but that only infuriated the dragon, who seemed to have shrunk in size since the beginning of their assault. The beast tipped back its head and blew another fierce stream of flames that curled into the sky, letting out a great bellow; maybe it knew it was its last, or maybe it came as a surprise. The ground cracked loudly and collapsed into itself, crumbling beneath the beast. It clawed at the ground, but it didn't take long before the warm colors of the fire faded into the ground below.

Darkness reclaimed the realm--complete darkness. There was no soft glow, no gentle light to guide them anymore. No way to identify who was who or where they were.

There was only the smell of ash and smoke, and the soft sound of carnival music disappearing into silence.

Quote:
Congratulations, you survived! To escape the realm, you need only take a single step in any direction and you will step out of a random shadow in Destiny City. If you are travelling in a group, you may exit together or you may be separated. While you are free to continue roleplaying in this thread, there will be no more mule posts. Please try to backfill all of your rolls within the next few weeks, even if it is only a sentence or two.

To any character who needs resolution, the newly restored Carousel now brings a sense of peace and comfort; sometimes carnival music can be heard even when the carousel is not being operated, and sometimes the shadows seem to take the form of frolicking horses out of the corner of your eye. Sometimes, if they're in a good mood, you may feel a playful nudge on your back towards the carousel.

Everyone who had a character that participated in the raffle will receive one Shadow Pass Charm, to be distributed to a participating character of their choice. No matter how many characters you participated with, each player can only claim one item. However, this item will also be added to our list of Permanent IC RP Accessories! You you would like to obtain more of these, you may win another one in the raffle, claim for individual participation rewards, or purchase with Crown Tokens.

If any of your participating characters rolled a 40 or higher, you are now also in the possession of one pair of Faded Ticket Stubs; even if you had multiple characters that rolled above a forty, you can only claim one of these items to give to any of your participating characters. You cannot give these items to any of your characters who did not participate.

Quote:
Shadow Pass Charm - A small, flame shaped gemstone. It is an iridescent black, but sometimes seems like a small flame has ignited in the dark depths.
This small gemstone has a hole carved into the top of it that allows it to be fastened or worn in many different ways. This charm allows the user to walk into one shadow and out of another random shadow, limited only to whatever plane they are on. If on Earth, the charm can only be used in Destiny City and will only take them to another location in Destiny City, however it can be used on homeworlds, in Mirrorspace, and in the Dark Kingdom. The user will only ever walk out of a shadow in the same plane they entered a shadow in. While the charm does not allow complete control over the ending destination, with enough focus it can be somewhat manipulated to move the character in the direction they desire. The character does not need to have a shadow in mind or have been in a location before; this is most useful when exploring or looking for locations you did not know existed. The charm will allow only the user to pass through a shadow; they cannot bring a guest with them unless the guest also has a Shadow Pass Charm, however travelling together will use the magic in both charms and they must be connected in some way while travelling. The Shadow Pass Charm is a one way trip; you cannot return to your original destination after using it. It can be used once per day.

Faded Ticket Stubs - Two old and yellowed tickets that say 'Destiny City Carnival Admission 1942'; a perforated line connects the two tickets.
When the user tears along the perforated line and separates the tickets, one of them will morph into a shadow replica of the user. The shadow replica looks and acts exactly like them, however their entire body and outfit are completely black, as if permanently cast in dark shadows. The replica cannot come up with new information or think on its own and simply functions as a shadow of the user. It can repeat phrases or actions performed by the user after it is summoned, including shadow versions of any magic they use. The shadow replica has the same limitations as the user does; they have the same durability and can be destroyed by any force or damage that would be enough to kill the user, however they can survive for up to six hours on their own. After the magic ends, the shadow will simply disappear into the darkness; the magic is gone from the tickets and the user can keep the other ticket stub as a memento. (This item can be used freely in one on one roleplays but please speak to the host of any shop or player run event to confirm that you can use this item during their event!)

If your character was powered, this roleplay will count as a battle towards their requirements! If you wrote at least 500 words you may also claim a Luna-P Growth Item! If your character participated as a civilian, this roleplay can only count as a regular roleplay towards requirements (if applicable), but if you wrote at least 500 words you may also claim a Henshin Pen growth item! Regardless of how many characters you played, you can only claim one growth item. Make sure you post for this in your growth item log!

Transcended Sailor Ida

Ida quailed as the dragon began to bellow, fireballs shooting up into the air. She felt the heat growing as they neared and she threw her arms up, trying to protect her head and the cat on her shoulders. With her eyes squeezed shut, everything was heat and light, drowning out everything else as her skin burned.

It was nearly more than she could take… The senshi wavered, feeling the world spin and the ground heave. She almost fell. Tiny pinpricks in her shoulders, the sound of a purr in her ears, pulled her back to the burning world around them.

“M-maybe…” Ida agreed, reaching up to touch the soft fur. She remembered the pain, though the Mauvian seemed fine and there were no blisters or welts on her skin as she expected. Had it been an illusion?

“I can do that a few more times, so I can try…”

She had to try. She had lived through some of the worst the Negaverse could do to a person, she would not fall here. She would NOT.

“Heavenly Orchid Arrows!” Ida shouted as she loosed another at the ground, watching it crack and splinter, ash spreading. She stumbled as the dragon roared again and the ground cracked open, collapsing under the monster. Wide-eyed, she watched as it fell away and out of view and darkness descended, swallowing everything once more.

“Hey, wait!” She reaching up to her shoulders as she stepped forward in concern… and stepped out into a dark, but gently lit night. A familiar night, in a familiar place. “What…”

“We’re home?” Ida said, reaching to see if the Mauvian was still on her shoulders. “You okay Friend?”

Illyria, Guardian Cat

Illyria had been free to observe a change being wrought in whatever realm they'd been yanked into. The sky was on fire, almost everything was burning and yet she was not. The tiny creature was able to look on in surprise as the size of the dragon began to change. Gradually at first and yet as the chasms continued to be filled the dragon seemed to get smaller with parts of it disintegrating. The final blow came from not those that were trapped on the platform - those from Destiny City - but from the horses that had been lingering around the edges of the platform. One had taken the initiative to plunge itself into a growing chasm and the result was extraordinary.

Although Illyria could not help but wonder if the creatures felt anything upon their demise - she couldn't help but give a soft cry at watching so many of the noble creatures follow the one that had set the example. One by one the horses galloped to their doom but it was their sacrifice that heralded the true ending to the ordeal. The ground opened up from beneath the dragon and the creature toppled off its perch and fell into the wide fissure. A deafening roar and then silence. Illyria sat up straight and glanced around. Was that it then? Was the battle over? The realm began to settle and even as she pricked her ears forward Illyria could no longer catch any traces of the eerie melody that had been playing earlier. The shadows lengthened and disappeared to be replaced with utter darkness. There was nothing left for the Mauvian to do except hold on tight when the senshi stepped forward without warning. Tiny claws flexed and caught Ida's cloth-covered shoulders as suddenly they found themselves seemingly back in Destiny City. How had that happened?

As she was asked if she was okay Illyria merely purred loudly in Ida's ear. She was home and that was what mattered. "I think I am. A friend," she butted Ida's head with her own before continuing, "I'm Illyria. Who are you?"

Sailor Adorea, Senshi of Optimism

If Adorea had been a major player in the matrix, now would have been one of those slow motion moments where she dodged out of the way of an incoming fireball. As it was, she mostly yelped and conveniently sidestepped away from the initial assault. She'd been lucky that time, up until this point she had simply had her backside kicked from here into oblivion and some of that had been self inflicted!

Ah...such a noble soul.

She probably could have selected a better time to be so selfless in the grand scheme of things.

Nevertheless she gazed briefly at Mia and shook her head; how had she survived? Well, stubborness was probably the most accurate answer to that one but when it came down to it... the poor civilian was provided with a small and somewhat non-committal shrug. She didn't know how she'd survived other than that she had and in hindsight she'd probably recall it with more clarity. Alas, in the moment it was all just par for the course because when it came to Destiny City s**t just got weird.

It was with a further non-committal throw of another stone that she sent another set of boulders cascading into the chasm. She was methodical, simply accepting that if they were to get anywhere she'd have to participate and do something with that chasm. With enough collective attention the affects soon became apparent and the ground eventually gave way. What had once been a giant dragon had dissipated into nothingness and with it the light departed as well.

She knew she wasn't alone, not yet anyway... But it certainly seemed like it as the silence fell.

"Well, that was a little anticlimatic," she murmured, perfectly audible in the depths of nothingness as she took a step towards her companions to further assist them. Alas, this was something she would never get to do as the moment she stepped forward to cast her spell, she found herself back in the city. Under the dim glow of a lantern and a considerable distance from home.

A glance here and there assured her that no one was in her immediate vicinity, no auras of note sprang up at a distance either. However what was abundantly clear was that those shadows had receding leaving nothing more than their less nefarious form. A small ping caught her attention and glancing down she took note of the unusual gem that had fallen at her feet, another trinket from another bizarre event within the city.

She glanced over her shoulder again, if only to confirm that her friends hadn't come out the same side as her, but based on how these things tended to work it seemed that for now they would have to wait to see each other again.

Adorea was on her own and now seemed like an appropriate time to head home... She needed a moment to rest and she was past fighting youma at this hour, not when she had been incinerated and thrown about in a paranormal world. Her patrols could wait until some other time, preferably when she wasn't still blinking smoke out of her eyes...

(And with that she's out!)

Lieutenant Rakovanite

He didn't know how long they'd been in that strange realm, how long they'd suffered through crippling darkness and debilitating heat and smothering ash. He didn't know how many others had been transported to the shadow world, who they were, or how they'd fared. But knowing even as little as he did, Rakovanite recognized a turning point to the trauma. The shadowy demon dragon let out a final roar as the ground splintered beneath it and swallowed it up.

As it sank, it drew the world into oblivion. Where the dragon had created heat and flame, it had also brought light, and as it disappeared into the ground, it took the warmth and glow with it, leaving a world shrouded only in nothingness, broken only by the scent of ash, the murmurs of the people still left behind, and a fading tune.

Rakovanite had not spoken to Fettelite again after his irate snap, hadn't kept sight of the younger man in the flurry of commotion and heat, and it was impossible to see him now.

Rakovanite turned to step in the direction where he thought he may have left the younger man, but it only took one step to find himself back in the moonlight bathing Destiny City. He could hear crickets on the grass, wind rustling trees... Rakovanite recognized this place. He'd been transported back to the park. It wasn't where they'd been pulled into the shadow world from, but it was at least someplace he could navigate home from...

Perhaps in a moment, though...

Rakovanite slid toward the ground. Even being away from the flames didn't immediately soothe the burns on his skin and in his throat. The immediate danger had passed, so there didn't seem to be any need to rush home. He could wait a moment here, catch his breath, and perhaps Fettelite would call him to let him know where he was... Rakovanite would wait. Just a few minutes to regain a sense of normalcy before heading home.

Sailor Lacerta (of Bandages) (( 29 ))

Lacerta felt Arnica's hand land gently on her shoulder and even though the pressure caused the redhead to flinch she gave a weak nod to the Dark Mirror's question, "I'll live. Be careful though Arnica."

She was going to be alright. She just didn't know when she would be alright. There was no physical damage that was visible but she was still feeling a considerable amount of discomfort. However it was the charging of a single horse that caught her attention. She was about to call out a warning to Arnica to beware the moving steed but it seemed as if the animal had another idea in mind and it plunged into a nearby wall of flames. A great plume of fog erupted as before Lacerta's eyes the horse disappeared. The dragon roared and soon all the horses seemed to be running towards the flames.

As each noble beast sacrificed its life the dragon's image seemed to get smaller and smaller and even as she attempted to stand the teen noted the crumbling ground broke apart below the dragon sending it tumbling into the large abyss.

As soon as the dragon was vanquished the darkness that had been held at bay by the flames of the beast returned en mass. Lacerta couldn't see Arnica anymore and even as she reached out to try and grab the senshi in order to stay close to each other she found herself stumbling through the inky blackness and out into a starlit night back in Destiny City.

What had just happened? Shaking her head the senshi of bandages winced once more as she felt the residual pain flare up again. She needed help and soon. Her voice croaked as she glanced around and whispered her newfound ally's name, "Arnica, I hope you made it out alright."

Maybe she'd see him again sometime.

Captain Fettelite
Rolls: 3 + 10 + 3 + 10 = 26

What... Had happened? At some point, between the fear that swelled up in his chest, and the visions of his siblings' burning flesh around him, he had passed out.

What did seem to resonate in his mind was abandonment. He was alone. He was left alone by the man he thought truly cared about him, more than anyone else in the world.

In that moment of weakness and fear, and trembling, where he knew he needed someone to hold him and help him, he was left behind.

And for what reason?

He knew exactly why. Fettelite was weak. Useless. Absolutely positively dead weight in any situation.

When he woke again in Destiny City, it was the same as always. He was alone.

... He dragged himself to his feet with a whimper, and rather than returning to Nataniel's Apartment to recover, he simply powered up, and teleported back into the Negaverse, to his barracks. Atleast there, he could cry without feeling like absolute garbage for doing so.
