Dimitri nodded and grinned after Fidessa's hand clanged off the back of his armor. "A single fiend doesn't stand a chance against a group like ours. And if it does have other fiends in thrall all we need to do is take out the alpha and the rest should fall into chaos and be easy pickings afterwards."
"So long as their numbers are not drastically higher than we have predicted." Roger said and then walked away to help scout for tracks.
"Yeah, unless that." Dimitri said less enthusiastically. "But let's be optimistic shall we? We'll finish off the mission and head home and take a few days to relax and then off onto our next harrowing adventure." He continued his roguish grin and carefree attitude both firmly back in place.

Raegar listened to the others as he and Kolo found the trail the fiend left behind. He walked alongside the big Auroch, one of his shovel sized hands resting on the beasts neck. Glancing back he scanned his motley crew, they had handled themselves well and while as a team they were all unaccustomed to fighting alongside each other he believed this hunt would end well.
"We don't know where the pack is, voices down. They will know we're coming, no need to let them know when and where." His eyes scanned the tracks as they walked into and through the forest again. He shifted the position of his axe and pulled the bear head of his cloak up to cover his own again. It wouldn't be long now.

Dimitri piped down at Raegar's words. His carefree and jovial attitude slipped away as his demeanor turned more serious, focused on the task at hand. He Drew his mace from its hook and held it and his shield out form his body, careful not to let them bump against his armor and make any more noise than he could help. He was also careful about how he moved and stepped, doing his best to keep his armor from clanking. He wasn't entirely successful, but he'd done this more than once and was fairly adept at sneaking in his plate. At least as well as anyone could sneak in plate.
Roger was already moving with minimal sound. He kept his hands resting on the pommels of his sabers. His eyes darted about, taking in his surroundings so as not to be taken unawares by ambushers.

Fidessa did not change her demeanor of how she paced along side Dimitri. She was apparently not very worried whether or not numbers were going to be an issue or not. As things seemed to intensify, Fidessa leaned in close to Dimitri and whispered in his ear, "Don't sweat the petty details. I'll take the leftovers from whatever you're not able to handle." She smiled with her finger pressed against her lips to indicate her comment was their little secret.

Jeeves picked her way carefully along with the others. They seemed to have forgotten she was there, which wasn't entirely bad. It allowed her to focus on her notes, not to mention people had a way of talking freely when they thought no one could hear them. She busily jotted more scribbles into her small notepad while deftly avoiding obstacles. She had turned walking while writing and reading note into an art form.

Raegar continued on with Kolo at his side, surprisingly quiet for such a large man. He kept his eyes on the tracks, letting Kolo be his eyes. They'd been following the tracks for a while when a tremor shook the earth gently at their feet. It went on for a few minutes, but didn't grow any stronger. Raegar looked around to see if there were any signs of what was making the sound, nothing.
He muttered a curse under his breath and kept moving albeit a bit more cautiously. Then, the tremors stopped as suddenly as they had begun. A minute later Raegar kept a watchful eye on the area around him, glancing down only to check that they were still following the tracks.
That's when he noticed the cave, barely noticeable through the trees rocks jutted out of the ground forming an entrance, though nothing could be seen. It looked to small to hold the numbers he was expecting, but who knows how deep it runs.
"Cave ahead, weapons ready."
Raegar took his battle axe and set it over his shoulder and removed his hand from Kolo. As they approached, Edlyre's scepter would begin to glow, growing stronger as they approached. No signs of movement, but the scents were there and so were the tracks.
Out of the cave mouth appeared what looked to be a man, he wore black leather armor and bared two hook swords in his hands. He was lithe, but his muscles appeared sculpted by years of training and dark hair fell over a white featureless mask that covered his face. Blue eyes peered out from behind it, a faint glow to them.
"Leave this place, you have no business here."
His tone was firm and the man moved, clearly centering his balance for a fight.
Raegar stared at the man and silently accessed him, unsure of what to make of this new obstacle.

Blada had mostly kept her distance as she followed her new "companions." Sure, she had been willing to work alongside them for the time being, but as Blada knew all too well, it was very important not to let strangers get too close -- physically as well as socially. She would speak to them, but her words would be quite shallow and emotionless. She had plenty of practice speaking this way, even to the people in her village who she saw everyday.

As they stood outside the cave, Blada carefully watched the masked man. For a moment she glanced past his shoulder, into the darkness of the cave behind him. Were there Fiends hiding there? Was this man protecting them?

"My apologies sir, but we seem to have stumbled into this place by accident," Blada began, not waiting for any of her "companions" to speak first. "However, we've been traveling for a day without rest and we were seeking a safe place to take a quick break."

Blada glanced again at the darkness of the cave behind the man.

Dimitri and Roger watched as the man emerged. They glanced at each other and Roger tilted his head towards Raegar. Dimitri nodded. They fanned out, one on each side of Raegar leaving a few feet of space.

Upon discovering the cave entrance, Fidessa could only but smirk to herself. It wasn't too long ago that she had just demolished a nest of fiends to obtain this sealed sword she held in her hand.

Fidessa felt like observing this time and let her company do the talking with this stranger.

Edlyre continued along side his new companions and took notes in his book as they walked. He had learned quite a bit in their previous battle with the fiends. He had collected several samples of items as well. A tooth here, a claw there, and even some of the acidic liquid which, thankfully, did not burn a hole in his sample vials. He asked the others various questions of their travels and what they had encountered and kept log of what they said especially those pertaining to the different fiends they met. He nook notice that Jeeves also took various notes as they went and proceeded to ask her various questions as well.

"You seem quite detail oriented in keeping notes as well." he pointed out as glanced at the scribbles of notes. "Would you mind comparing notes? For educational purposes of course." he said.

While they spoke, they came to the cave entrance and the orb on his scepter began to glow catching the group's attention. The were aware now of what the glow meant. The presence of supernatural auras in the vicinity. "Tsk, seems study time will have to wait." he muttered as they others began fanning out after the leather clad individual commanded them to go no further. What could he be guarding? What was it he was trying to protect?

Jeeves blinked in surprise when Edlyre addressed her, then broke into a wide smile at his offer,"Why yes, please do!" It was quite a relief to have another mind geared toward science in the group. Perhaps he would make a good assistant as they progressed. She walked forward a few steps before realizing everyone had stopped. She glanced around and noticed everyone looking in the same direction and looked as well to see a muscular man with curious weapons and a mask confronting them.
Jeeves immediately began drawing a quick likeness of the figure, complete with notes and lines pointing at various points on his person.

The man's eyes shifted to Blada's and he forced a short laugh. "I know why you're here." Then they left her to settle on Dimitri, then Roger as they fanned out to either side of Raegar. "My fiends have hurt no one since they joined me, save in defense of their own lives." Then a bestial growl, not unlike a wolf's echoed from within the cave. Two eyes, the size of the man's head appeared behind him glowing with an azure light, though nothing more could be made out. "I'll say again, leave this place, we don't wish to fight you."

Raegar grunted and glanced back at Kolo, locking eyes with the Auroch. "Stay." Then the giant of a man started walking toward the figure, axe hanging unconcerned at his side, staring at the cave through the eyes of his bear cloak.

The masked man watched the giant as he stepped forward from the group, weapon in hand and approached. "Last chance to leave." The words firmed with confidence.

Raegar didn't even slow, "Even if what you say is true, a fiend is a fiend, they will turn on you and then innocents would start dying. I will not allow it."

When Raegar was about fifteen feet from the cave, the figure raised a hook sword above his head and slashed a vertical line down in front of him as he yelled, "Now!" There was a moment of shaking earth and a ten foot radius of earth around the big man and himself disappeared, crumbling into what looked like a pit with row after row of serrated teeth. What can only be described as a massive worm shot out toward the sky, its body covered in bony plates as its head fell and crashed into the ground, shaking it and immediately started pulling itself back down into the hole.

From the backside of the rocky outcropping seven forms took flight they appeared covered in red and black feathers of no particular pattern, their size similar to a mule's. As they reached above the trees they folded their wings in and dove rapidly at the hunter and guardians below. From their opened beaks a twenty foot gout of flame shot towards the group. The birds plummeted through it, and became engulfed in flames. However, this didn't appear to harm them, as they came closer they opened their wings, and extended their taloned feet to rake at each of them.

On top of this four shapes emerged from the ground, their bodies covered in rocky plates, and charged at the groups front focusing on Roger and Dimitri. Then from the cave mouth five lycanthropic figures charged past the masked man and the large form behind him. Two of which wore armor leather armor, bore a bas'tard sword and shield, and their pelts were pure white in contrast to the black of the other three who only had spears. These two lycanthropes eyes glowed blue as well, and a dozen wolves charged out of the caves mouth alongside them.

All the while the masked figure stared at them, the beast behind it growling, eager to join the fight, but holding back.

The masked man stood there watching.

Fidessa immediately tensed up after feeling strange vibrations under the ground beneath them. "Not good!" She shouted quickly as Raegar disappeared from view. They must have been using this worm to travel around undetected. And this man... is most likely no ordinary man.

Fidessa moved quickly out of range of the oncoming aerial attack and engaged the oncoming assault along side Roger and Dimitri with her sword sheath in hand, though she would be unable to draw it still.

Blada smirked; she knew it was very likely that the man would not believe her lie, but she felt it was worth it to try anyway.

As creatures began to emerge from various directions, Blada quickly reached for the Whimzerst on her back. It was already buzzing loudly with energy has she slid it from the sheath. They had been traveling for a while so lots of static shock had built up inside the sword.

Just before one of the feathered creatures reached her, Blada waved the Whimzerst in front of her in a fast diagonal motion. Static energy exploded from the sword's edge, immediately immobilizing the creature in its flight.

Blada crouched low to the ground, preparing to lunge at the creature before her perfect opportunity expired.

Roger and Dimitri's eyes widened at the sudden appearance of so many fiends. But they both had their "game faces" on and simply accepted the threats as obstacles to be dealt with. Both of then stood their ground as the fiends charged and converged on their group. As the flying fiends descended on them the two men burst into action.
Roger's blades whirled through the air and slashed at one of the fiends as he sidestepped its dive. Dimitri waited until the flaming bird was nearly on top of him and then swung his shield at it. He put enough power into the swing to hopefully smash it and also throw it back into its fellows at the same time.
"We need to take out the small fries quick, Rog." Dimitri said as he worked. "Before they swarm us."
