I'd be interested in taking the landscapes course. I've always had some trouble with drawing backgrounds. Would there be any prerequisites before taking the course? Also, what all would the lessons entail?

I would love to direct this class, i already answers some questions and wouldn't mind taking it on, as the leader is working on figure.

Landscapes are simple yet complex there is many things to learn and any one can start from any points.

1. lets see what you got, a great tool to see how to teach is to see what needs to be worked on, so i would like you to draw 3 landscapes all different places, including most of the page 3/4th of the page should be shaded or drawn, it should be rendered beyond a sketch and lastly should not have high level of contrast or detail, your goal is to have medium tones with minimal shading.

Ill be doing some sketches soon for my own examples no time limit, but to keep the class moving i would like every one to turn in work by the end of the week starting today. so next Tuesday would be a good day to turn in your work.

I'll do what I can. Can I work from photographs as references points, or would you prefer if I made up my own?

Look at you going all out like this User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Do you want to be part of the crew?

Art critiques: you're welcome to post about doing them here.

I could use your help setting up the landscape curriculum. PM me with your ideas. The one I have in mind is based off Jeff Watt's landscape curriculum and consists of a lot of master copies (learning by copying the masters + artists who do things the way we like them).

Tech, weapons & mech: I have no idea about this either. I think it boils down to knowing your subject intimately. So if you're drawing a car, go to a website where you can learn about all the parts and what they look like, how they work, etc. If, at a later stage, more people express interest in this, we'll create a curriculum for it. But for now, I've no idea how to even start that topic.

Humanoids, dragons & fantasy creatures: you'll be able to do that effortlessly after completing the figure drawing + portraiture + fundamentals + animal anatomy courses. Basically, all you have to do is imagine, in detail, how that creature will live: what and how does it eat, excrete, procreate, move, react to climate changes, etc. When you understand the subject, drawing i in a believable way will make a lot more sense.

Also, fantasy creatures are pretty much what you want them to be. Elves can be tall and slender like in Lord of the Rings, or short little things like Santa's elves. Let your imagination run free.

Breaking bad art habits is SUCH an important topic! You can create a thread for it here and we can all add to the conversation.

And discussing artistic ideals could be another really great topic to cover in the mindset subforum (where all the philosophical things will go).

Thanks for all your input & engagement!

PS. Grammarly can sort out your stress about spelling and grammar.

I'll make sure the thread's main posts are reserved. PM me with the course material + suggested assignments and I'll add it in. Then you can go ahead and post in the landscape thread itself.

Prerequisites will probably be the fundamentals course - especially having a good grasp on textures, light and values. However, you're welcome to take more than one course simultaneously and you don't have to do EVERY assignment (although it all builds up towards having really good skills). For example, Mondays can be figure drawing, Thursdays landscapes, etc - whatever you like!

Very good use of shading and contrast with your work, Akida. If you'd like, you can check out some of my work as well. It's here. Most of my stuff is fantasy-based, with some obvious anime influences here and there. Also, some design work I've done. There are also a few examples of how I draw backgrounds in there too.

Thank you! I'll check out the Fundamentals as well. It's always good to have a refresher. I'll do what I can to be active and post in a timely manner. I work full time so the only free time I have is in the evenings and on the weekends.

Your work has amazing levels of creativity and imagination, i can see you have understanding of figure in your drawing, your very good with digital work, that something i play around with from time to time but i don't focus on it.
Therese also a unique style to your work as well its dark, reminds me of Tim Burton meets, Shel Silverstein
i also recommend that you look up Salvador Doli and Munch, these representational artist might help fuel your ambition .

Keep up the great work its always great to see different perspectives and ideas.

1 Style 3 out of 5: i give you this score because there is nothing specifically original about this piece, however i give you great applause for the design in the clothing.
2. color 3 our of 5: seems slightly faded, although as i say this i realize this may be a picture issue not a art issue, i am reminded how many times iv taking pictures of my drawing and its not nearly as good as the original.
3. Contrast and tone: 2 out of 5: this is a low score because your picture here is a medium tone and i highly suggest adding a light source, also when drawing a monotone picture such as this its better to use bright colors then dark ones, or possible all dark ones, using medium tones gives a " unfinished look"
4. figure and anatomy: 3 out of 5: You did a fair job here, but i am marking some points off for a simplistic pose and for having the figure in the middle of the page, a common artistic choice.
5. Texture 2 out of 5; not much to say here this is a very flat image, this is different from contrast and tone, texture has to do with how 3d it looks while contrast has to do with shadow play and lighting.
6. Creativity 3 out 5: this is more or less a free area were artist can get points, its hart to mark down an artist for creativity, however as i noted 2 or 3 things that delt with creativity, ie pose, positioning and action.

over all a score 3.5 out of 5:

Note, i wouldn't almost never give out a 5 meaning a 4 would be a challenge a 4.5 would be amazing , 2 would probably be average.
this is not based of an average, so don't try to do that math, i added points because i liked your work, also your work is beautiful.

all in all great job and keep up the good work.
